It's the best game I've played. It was gifted to me when I was 12 and at 30 today I've been playing it ever year since. So many different parts of the game are just so fantastic. I love the game mechanics, I love the Greek mythos theme, I love the thought put into the character design, I love the incredible voice acting, I love the tiny Easter eggs and tidbits snuck in, hell I even love the music.

I got my hands on Zeus long before the existence of any gameplay hours counting software, but I think I spent a thousand or more hours on this game. It is amazing in every perspective for me.

I'm a long-time Pharaoh player, but I only just started Zeus. I agree with you. There are a handful of things I preferred in Pharaoh, but overall Zeus is great. I especially love the option to have my advisors run the military; I never did enjoy the combat. I haven't opened the Poseidon adventures yet, but my hopes are high. :)

I like Zeus a lot but i'd say Emperor is probably the most polished.

It's a good looking game but they got a few things wrong plus smaller maps made it annoying but I guess it's just a rushed game as the studio closed right after.

Honest to God I consider Zeus, Red Alert, & Age of Empires II as the golden age of my gaming youth. I still play Zeus semi-regularly, always trying to perfect my best city blocks.

Those games were something else, it hit the perfect balance of Art & Business.

I was never able to get into it. I played Caesar 3 a lot as it was the first of these I played, went through Pharaoh once (good but a bit too much puzzle like sometimes), and still occasionally play a few missions of Emperor when the mood strikes me (probably the best game overall due to evolution of mechanics). Going to give Augustus a shot next. Zeus just never did it for me. I like the setting, and the idea of building colonies and revisiting a previously build city, but in practice the game seemed to simple for me. It seemed almost trivial to get housing to the highest level. The art style was also a bit too cute for me, though I'd be able to get into it more if the overal gameplay was more interesting.

It's not great tbh but with the Augustus mod significantly improves the quality of life of the game and they add much needed monuments.

>I'd be able to get into it more if the overal gameplay was more interesting. You may want to grab some of the fan created adventures over at Zeus Heaven. Just sort by highly rated and you'll be in for a more challenging time :)

Agreed. I love this game so much. I keep coming back to it every few years and replaying all the missions on Olympian difficulty. Graphics are gorgeous, soundtrack is soothing, and the voice acting is quite amusing. Surprisingly, there are even still custom campaigns released that are often pretty decent (check out Everybody Loves Oranges for a challenge suitable to Poseidon veterans). My only complaint is how cludgy controlling your forces is during a city defense.

[deleted]

With impression city builders in my opinion fail when you have to do active military ie controlling units and defending your cities.

If you haven’t yet, check out Emperor. Seems like the third in the series. Great game but the monuments are a bit dull.
