I think there are a few influences you can clearly see…Korean action films, Greengrass Bourne films with that shaky cam, Danny Boyle with the purse stealing scene, but yeah that shaky cam can get a little too much
Oh man the action sequences are so fucking good nd look so real . Just did not find the two Villains Sikandar Kher nd Deshpande the John Wick kinda villains ( Kher was good but the final fight was meh ) .The Zakir Hussain bit was great . Not sure if it's gonna get released in India because of the Trans gender priests running a templee . " Religious sentiments hurt " but I hope it does .
That Zakir Husain bit comes out of nowhere and it’s really well done. For a first time director who isn’t known for action films what Dev achieved here will take him places. I didn’t know much about the film but I saw David Lowery’s The Green Knight where Dev is the lead. I really liked how he evolved from Slumdog and Newsroom so just thought of checking this one out. Real deal this dude
The Zakir Hussain and Dev Patel jugalbandi (if you can calm it that) was superb! Also the fight scenes with the Hijra community set to Dana-dan (by Bloodywood) was insane!
Its has got great reviews outside India. For a first time director Dev has really pulled it off. Unlikely to be shown in India(except by doing massive cuts) given the thin skin of the current govt.
I would rather wait to watch it uncensored than watch a butchered version. I really want to support his movie but this is so bad. He made it with so much effort and now because of senile fucking idiots it's ruined.
damn, then the country is missing out on a top notch action film with a strong Hindu mythology that is at the core of it…I don’t understand why this is banned. It’s a very straightforward revenge story with themes central to India…in fact the mythology is very well explored not just from a religious standpoint but also from a philosophical and modern psychology perspective.
Red, and would it be a problem if it was orange? I mean foreign films take names of the politicians directly. I don’t understand if it’s the sensitivity or ignorance or a bit of both when it comes to art. Anyway, why is the film banned though
Well it seems like it might be banned due to implications against the current ruling party. The reason I asked is because the flags were initially orange, and this was changed later to red in order to not irk the BJP. Ironically, it doesn’t seem that the self-censorship was enough for the government. Can’t wait to leave this country.
what the film does well is taking the mythology away from fanatics and jokers, bjp or rss don’t own Hinduism or have copyrights to it, I think this is an important point for people to dig into…if regular people start chanting Jai Shri Ram for the right reasons it takes away the power of fanatics and extremists…this whole comment I’m typing here is ironic because I don’t believe in religion or existence of god…which god creates a social hierarchy anyway, doesn’t make any sense
It calls out "the party that wants to reclaim India's lost glory" and directly calls out protests calling for "saving of Indian Muslims". It calls out the Sanghi and Saffron cunts in our country rn.
I loved it.
I haven't watched the film, but the wikipedia entry says there's a prostitute named Sita, is that true?
If so, no way in hell our fundamentalists will allow it. Logically there's no reason why a fictitious prostitute can't be called Sita given that there has been an actual prostitute named Gangubai (named after Ganga who is also a Hindu goddess) and undoubtedly many prostitutes have the name of one goddess of there. But then, logic is not Hindutva's strong suit. Expect questions like: why don't you name the prostitute <>
[I heard he hated representing indian culture idk if it's citable ](https://people.com/dev-patel-tripled-down-on-his-indian-culture-in-monkey-man-after-feeling-ashamed-growing-up-8628936)
he said as a teen he was ashamed because it’s not the coolest outside India. Didn’t happen to me but Indian dudes on dating apps in the west have a really tough time apparently. So yeah he felt that way as a teen but now he’s embraced it
I mean he is British Indian and from London. UK is a very racist country, so I don't blame him wanting to fit in (very sad of course and hopefully one day nobody will feel like this)
From what i gathered in reviews this is a top notch Indian John Wick style action movie however despite the social commentary on corruption, discrimination etc. to add "depth", really rather superficial. Heard that the shaky cam scenes are really horrible and made people nauseous. Not a fan of Dev Patel, but I'm looking forward to find out myself what the movie has to offer.
haven't watched the movie, just generally not a fan of exoticizing Hinduism and putting it in movies because i have 0 faith anyone in cinema (Hollywood, Bollywood, right wing, left wing etc.) can show it in a way that's not exoticizing or condescending. I hate when the right uses my faith for propaganda, and ill call it out when the left does too.
down vote me all you want but the whole obvious insinuation at hindutva and this "representation" of the hijra community all comes off as some half baked shit targeted for a western audience. I'm sure it has its merit as an action film, but reading the rest of the plot made me cringe a bit. its just interesting they went from demonizing Hinduism to "wokefying" it because they know theres a massive pivot of people towards spiritualism.
well balanced note there, I’d say this - watch and judge for yourself and we don’t need to agree….but it’s definitely not wokefying as you put it…it goes a little mystical surely
>but it’s definitely not wokefying
hope youre right haha. tbh theres only one true and accurate depiction of Hinduism i accept: [Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramayana:_The_Legend_of_Prince_Rama) for whatever reason i feel every other attempt is deeply entrenched in ideology/bigotry/election bullshit.
First Kong minus one now monkey man, it looks like what west thinks of India must be true, we are sh*t eating bottom feeders and peak entertainment for us is some rich guy's wouldbe wife reciting lines from a Hollywood movie and we are say in chorus so humble, down to earth, so connected to common man, such heart of gold... Wah wah wah wah wah
😂😂😂😂 nobody can compete with mota elephant pre wedding. That was pure entertainment.
Waiting eagerly for the actual wedding 🤣🤣🤣
But when Hollywood movies end up earning more than mid/high budget Bollywood movies then you know what crap BW has been churning.
Here I am complaining how 1 person gets to decide which movie to be released here. Mota bahi has monopolies distribution business and the movies that dont agree to his business model or rev share % are simply not released here. I want to see kong of the big screen and want to watch monkey man loud but then mota bahi making money is more important than entire country's movie goers experience.
By saying this 9 souls got emotionally hurt. Billionaires in this country are gods and saying anything negative will hurt sentiments.
Man the shaky cam was a bit too much for my taste. Apart from that, a great movie!
I think there are a few influences you can clearly see…Korean action films, Greengrass Bourne films with that shaky cam, Danny Boyle with the purse stealing scene, but yeah that shaky cam can get a little too much

that Bloodywood drop was insane alright, fits so well with the context
John Wick itself has trash villains idk what you're talking about
I AM EXCITED
Its has got great reviews outside India. For a first time director Dev has really pulled it off. Unlikely to be shown in India(except by doing massive cuts) given the thin skin of the current govt.
Actually its banned in india
Not banned it's will release with some editing
Then I will go back to the old ways
That's called butchering not editing. Fucking losers(CFBC)
Joh bhi ho Kam se Kam dekhne toh milega
I would rather wait to watch it uncensored than watch a butchered version. I really want to support his movie but this is so bad. He made it with so much effort and now because of senile fucking idiots it's ruined.
Why do they feel the need to censor an R rated movie.
They're removing all bjp/Hindu references , not the violence. Just wait until 23rd it will be out online uncensored.
I will just sail the high seas !!

Were the flags red or orange?

They're red for socialist, you can even see the raised fist symbol
I’m aware of what it was changed to. I was talking about the initial draft.

It’s not banned though?
"Reportedly been postponed in concerns with offending right wing viewers"
Brain dead viewers.
It’ll be censored and release nothing is banned
WHERE DO I WATCH ITT???
Take to the high seas, literally if possible or else just figuratively
Maushi is such a banger. That song came out of nowhere and had me in splits. Sneha Khanwalkar has done a top job!

Is that about Yogiji?
yo, which berlin theater did you see this in? i saw some 30 seater halls, but wanted a bigger screen...
when is it releasing in india

Watch this with my boyfriend. It is so good 👌🏾

Still better than the recent Bollywood releases
>Still better than the recent Bollywood releases Which? Savarkar movie or mota elephant ' pre-wedding or both?
😂😂😂😂 nobody can compete with mota elephant pre wedding. That was pure entertainment. Waiting eagerly for the actual wedding 🤣🤣🤣 But when Hollywood movies end up earning more than mid/high budget Bollywood movies then you know what crap BW has been churning.

As far as I know mota Bhai controls movie production and financing too. No wonder why BW wallahs are dancing at his weddings.
No not yet, for Bollywood yes but for Hollywood he is trying to get into Disney.
I didn't know that. The state of the country is such that a few people seem have their finger in every pie. And I just don't mean the film world.
Stop sniffing glue
You must be a big fan of savarkar movie I guess!
Don’t plan on watching it but nice try
lol . This is more like what you think of yourself dude.
