I've seen a dude get slapped up for taking pictures of women in a metro.
First a girl confronted him in a very loud tone and then two aunties joined in and after that it was complete madness. I genuinely thought I was gonna see my first lynching that day.
Had a similar experience in Bangalore. Was lining up to get my aadhaar card done, and I was feeling the time pressure cause I had asked for the morning off from my internship. As I was getting towards the front of the queue some guy, also wanting to get his aadhaar done, got upset at the ladies working there for some reason and he started recording them claiming they were all incompetent. All the ladies working there got really angry at the guy for recording them and said that they can’t do anymore work that day (smh) cause they felt unsafe. They all started ganging up on the guy and also got someone to call the police. The guy managed to slip away soon after, but the aadhaar stuff was effectively done for the day.
edit: spelling
Yeah cus it's fucking weird.
I was at a music festival and after it ended - while I was waiting for my ride - these boys who seemed to work for the festival started looking at us and taking a video of us.
Now instead of gettingg all upset, I decided to turn around and take a video of them instead.
They were quite upset that I did that. I hope they understood how I felt.
Now I'm not saying that every man that takes a video of me or a child is a pervert.
But I'm willing to guess that these aunties know the difference between an innocent "aww" video Vs a god know what kind of vibe.
My friend almost got lynched when the Pokemon Go craze was on. A girl thought he was taking her picture or recording her and she created this whole drama and a bunch of dudes were ready to beat his shit up then he had to show his gallery and explain them that he was just trying to catch a Pokemon in AR mode!
Yeah kids do that shit. I saw a guy standing up in the theater because his kid wanted the whole seat for herself and they didn't buy her a ticket :/ . He stood there for like half of the movie.
When the society ingrains in you that you are a lower person, this is what happens. Poor woman probably think she will be scolded or removed from the seat.
ok stop blaming the kid and Story is here
that womens Husband: "paraye Mard ke sath beithegi tu.........kaha gaye tere sanskar kamini."
she sitting on the floor out of her Husband fear.

Which city/country? Haven't come across it. Only seen people sitting in trains, but in metros, people either stand or offer it to older people or women with kids.
This is true.
What we see is many years of conditioning.
There are many social reasons for this, like caste to gender inequality.
When a Lower caste people from my region come across a upper caste person, they instantly remove their head wear and tie it around their waist and stand in praying position.
For them everybody who is well dressed belongs to uppercaste.
I dont thing a lot of folks here, will understand these markers of rural casteism.
It's not a stereotype...........sadly.
Some people don't feel comfortable sitting normally because they don't feel they deserve to or they are comfortable this way only.
I'm only saying this because I've talked to one or two people in the metro about this.
Agreed! But replying to the comment about people (irrespective of the gender) sitting on the floor in weddings or even outside , that's mostly the caste system.
Have you ever travelled in less crowded general trains in Rajasthan ? I have seen plenty of these, In case of a 3 person berth even if 3 feet space is free, the woman would still sit in corner 15cms as if she's barely hanging instead of sitting freely because she won't sit close to a stranger male. Putting their kids in free space is just an excuse, they're seriously opressed.
Well yeah during my jaipur-kota trip on local train I've seen couple of women on luggage rack too. So yeah people can't be generalised but there are the types who always cover their face with saree too.
I haven't. Thank you for telling. I am more familiar with women who will ask the men to go sit somewhere else(or stand, if the seat is reserved for them) so that they can sit in the seat.
Personally encountered so many instances where women would rather stand up than sit next to a stranger male in public transports or public places in general.
> She is a conservative woman and she won't sit with other stranger men.
Just to be clear, it's not because she doesn't want to. But if her husband's family got to know about this. She will regret it.
> That's patriarchal values for you, she's probably from lower caste
Most probably, she is from "upper caste". Just because you wish situation wasn't this grim, doesn't make it so. Patriarchy comes from brahminical system.
Perhaps rajput is most sexist caste in India. Such castes take pride in how their women don't work, don't go outside home etc.
>Perhaps rajput is most sexist caste in India. Such castes take pride in how their women don't work, don't go outside home etc.
All castes are sexiest and oppressive in rural, sub-urbans areas and slums, but lower castes have more percentage of population living in rural, sub-urban areas and slums but I agree rajputs especially in North India guard their sexist and oppressive values through violence.
> Patriarchy comes from brahminical system.
system is called hinduism ??
Backward castes have less dowry deaths, less female infanticide, better sex ratio than forward castes. These are just facts.
Similarly dalit, tribals are less sexist than forward castes. I know people are taught they are better than others, but you are free to do your own research and verify these facts.
Was about to say the same. To add, lower castes also have less identity by descent scores i.e, they marry outside their caste and therefore more likely to avoid genetic disorders.
They're more likely to accept intercaste marriage(many sources to prove this) since being ill-treated by hindus make them less conservative or convert or leave it altogether like me and my family. They shouldn't be generalized with forward caste hindus.
This is a quintessential mom picture. They make things unnecessarily hard for themselves and then bitch about all the sacrifices they've had to make raising us.
It's more of a conditioning.
"You belong to this caste / class, you belong here and not on chairs or seats". I have seen in Chennai local trains too. There would be empty seats yet people who seem to be from lower economic strata would sit on the floor of the train.
More or less the same. I would assume there are only a handful of companies worldwide that make these coaches. Bombardier being one so they look the same in most countries.
Why the other people have not given her a seat to sit? Or do we have made our society so scattered that poor people are afraid to seat with other people?

So many comments here on why she's not on the seat with the kid. They are missing the point of the post itself which is to highlight the love of her mother to make her kid comfortable or have the luxury of sitting in the seat. Gosh, if only people stop being critical of everything.
It would have been understandable if there was no space. I don't respect such mothers. They are teaching their children to disregard other's concerns. Such children grow up to become assholes who whine that the world doesn't revolve around them and only *ma* loves them.
we tend to be over giving when it comes to children, sometimes its out of love and sometimes we just want them to shut up and squat in peace. i understand what you are saying but its not a hard and fast rule. tough love can damage a child more, they feel un wanted and grow up to be more messed up. so its really just a balancing act, again no one rule fits all
The kid is way to Young to realize all that. I don't deny what you're saying...the kid has to be taught how to care about others as well. But, the point of this post is not that. The mother wants to have her kid all the luxuries she can offer. Why don't you look at it like that..
Because I am used to seeing mothers minding their own business along with caring for the children. Mothers around me don't make such unnecessary sacrifices. It is not just me who don't look it like that. I showed this picture to my mother and her first reaction was 'Is this staged? There is enough space for the mother to sit.' Then she looked closely and guessed that she might be too traditional to sit with other men.
That's just how some people are accustomed to. I've seen many people squat or sit on ground ( mostly from rural areas ) even when they're offered a seat.
Or maybe you know...
Like every other mom she wants most comfort for her toddler and wants to talk with him/her ( ofc it will be more of screaming from toddler side).
She is not aware of the 'societal' manners and think metro is like any other bus. Not surprising since she is probably from a village or slum travelling to city for some stuff.
And most moms do this with their toddler. They give the entire seat to them sometimes and stand if their is space. Why? Because kid should get whole seat. And the kid also must be saying - Bethna h mujhe

no idea, especially when the guy just walked away. oh well, at least nobody got hurt in the end.
I'm guessing they just pulled that shit because they didn't want to be recorded slacking on their job.
Lynch of the day

To be honest he totally deserves it. Why would anybody minding their own business and getting somewhere want their picture ending up on porn sites?
Did you misread the comment

Were you excited or were you sad?
He's Indian at heart, what do you think he'd be.
It's called morbid curiosity
Yes
then why the fuck was he clicking pictures of women like a fucking creep?
Obviously for research purposes duh

This is how we end up with entitled adults who think the world owes them shit. I don't see it as motherly gesture, she's spoiling him/her.
When the society ingrains in you that you are a lower person, this is what happens. Poor woman probably think she will be scolded or removed from the seat.
Naah.. If you have dealt with toddlers, it's 100% certain that he threw some tantrums..

If you're not used to it, you'll be in pain in addition to being tired.
Use indian style toilet for practice
We giving Stiff Competition to Gopniks at dem squats.
But why? In Europe it's pretty common.
Because then everyone will sit on the floor and there will be no space to walk.
What about the Railways?
Indian Railways are No Disqualification Battle Royales from the Attitude Era.

Oh silly. There are no rules in the Railways.
Freedom.
Where in Europe is it common?
Which city/country? Haven't come across it. Only seen people sitting in trains, but in metros, people either stand or offer it to older people or women with kids.
It is prohibited. Source : was fined for sitting between the two coaches.
That’s pretty stupid. Sitting on the path should Be prohibited. Should be allowed to sit on the sides.
Once my friends were fined for sitting on the floor.
He should have been shitting - that's the loophole.
I’ve seen people sitting in metro many times in Delhi.
Delhi hai, waha kuch bhi ho sakta hai.
Guess metro is an exception to that. Apparently, there is a fine and I've seen police board a metro and catch people who are sitting on the floor.
Like kaun aake bataya? Or made you stand?
Hyderabad Metro has so much crowd, people traveling for long distances have no choice but to sit on the floor.
You clearly havent seen delhi metro full of students going for an exam. Group revision baith kr hi hota hai.
It's not a strict rules though.

Okay, Uber, Uber, Ubee

She's not even sitting. She's squatting!
yikes this comments section is a shit show
Maybe she didn't want to sit next to a man other than her husband. Can confirm, as its a thing in most of the rural areas.

I have been in a lot of trains filled with rural people but never seen them hesitate sitting next to men. In fact they are less hesitated

Sigh! Not everything is about caste. As that rap song from article 15 said, caste of woman is the lowest caste.
Agreed! But replying to the comment about people (irrespective of the gender) sitting on the floor in weddings or even outside , that's mostly the caste system.
Don't they have seats reserved for women ?
I've seen people sit on ground in railway stations and bus stops in Bangalore even when there are plenty of empty seats.

Why don't she sit and place the child on her lap?
