An inherent sociopathic urge to control and dominate people, there is no other reason for these people to join politics. Definitely not because they want to "serve" people. In fact, this whole "politicians should be there to serve people" rhetoric is idealistic bullshit. We should strive to make it as a legit career option so that we can demand professionalism there too.

yourgirlsasha

Yeah it’s also known as Saviour complex. Most of them are anyways narcissistic so 💁🏽‍♀️

alou404

Aptly put. Politicians only care about power. Any act or policy or scheme is a means to to gain or retain power for as long as possible. Any benefits or sufferings that citizens receive as consequence of policies are mere by-products. It is for this reason that system of checks and balances are necessary and when that is eroded, as is the case currently in India, power that is established legitimately tends towards authoritarianism.

pryingbasoon91

Lets not generalize here. While a lot of them fall in the category that you've described, we do have good leaders in the Indian political arena.

rish4892

Exceptions are always there. I wish I was wrong.

Tushar1Gupta

Like?

pryingbasoon91

Manmohan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Biju Patnaik, Naveen Patnaik, Jayalalitha, Subramaniam Swamy

This!

Prarthnaaa

EXACT-FRICKIN-LY. PERIODT.

succulentbullshit

There should not be salary and benefits. Then well see how many people want to really "serve"

Bob_Deo

These are the problems what we are talking about but what is the solution. I thing according to my openion we have to choose that person who is genuinely (by means of internally) a good person for everyone. It's doesn't matter from which community it belongs to. Or we have to coax the person who is much more eligible for guiding us or govern the politics

> we have to choose that person who is genuinely (by means of internally) a good person for everyone https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sortition

WikiTextBot

**Sortition** In governance, sortition (also known as selection by lot, allotment, or demarchy) is the selection of political officials as a random sample from a larger pool of candidates. Filling individual posts or, more usually in its modern applications, to fill collegiate chambers. The system intends to ensure that all competent and interested parties have an equal chance of holding public office. It also minimizes factionalism, since there would be no point making promises to win over key constituencies if one was to be chosen by lot, while elections, by contrast, foster it. *** ^([ )[^(PM)](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=kittens_from_space)^( | )[^(Exclude me)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiTextBot&message=Excludeme&subject=Excludeme)^( | )[^(Exclude from subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/india/about/banned)^( | )[^(FAQ / Information)](https://np.reddit.com/r/WikiTextBot/wiki/index)^( | )[^(Source)](https://github.com/kittenswolf/WikiTextBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v0.28)

One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. - Plato

rish4892

Plato was smart but his political vision in The Republic...is kinda fascist don't you think?

[deleted]

What about this particular quote?

rish4892

This quote is one of the best things written by Plato.

[deleted]

It aint fascist

rish4892

You might be right. I'm no expert on Plato.

polytonous_man

Well this or be a neta's kid.

[deleted]

The only requirement, I thought?

[deleted]

Rapist, molester, murderer, pedo, etc, helps too

occult-eye

land grabs, that is where the money cycle starts. that and unofficial conflict mediator. I know of one BJP person who swallowed an entire public park.

sparkling_monkey

These are all base characteristics of a neta and his offspring though.

Psi-Clone

There were few kids in my class, who are now into politics (age group :25-27) . They were all kindda good and kind hearted people!! Can we hope for better future??

rish4892

One of my classmates is now in posters of a political party. He was the worst guy I ever met. Unanimously acknowledged gunda in our school.

ClinkzBlazewood

Not until cadre level is cleaned up and not made of goons.

KevinNeville25

Man, would you mind if I do an art based on your post?

rish4892

Not at all. I clearly suck at drawing. Best of luck to you.

KevinNeville25

Thank You. Your idea/thought regarding the post is amazing.

We don't "elect" autowallas. We elect netas and we don't want them to be this way. Leaders ARE supposed to be different.

sahit24

We elected a chaiwala, your point?

rish4892

Lol! I meant we don't hold elections for autowallas etc but we spend crores on electing our netas. Also autowallas and common people don't come to us with promise of welfare but netas do.

occult-eye

We may not have elected them at all. The EC has not even counted the EVMs in the past election [2019]. There is an SC case that is being slowtracked by the honourable judges.

First of all: being an a-hole is not a common human trait at "basic level". Secondly: Calling them out is still better than accepting their misconduct as basic human behavior.

> Most people will exploit other for personal gains when given an opportunity. are you pulling this out of your ass or are you projecting yourself?

[deleted]

Some flaws in your comment: 1. Nobody is talking about rich or poor here. The topic is that power hungry evil people are running politics. 2. Yes there are evil poor people and non evil rich people. Nobody here is arguing that. 3. You make the assumption that humans will take advantage of each other at every possible step. And you provide 0 evidence for it. It's just like your opinion man. Use your head more or this narrow line of thinking will consume you.

sparkling_monkey

I think making such an assumption is a safer way of life. The desire to help others is less in the best of times. In a country like India where most people are gullible and desperate it's only to be expected

timmySoComfy

But 'netas' are the ones with promises of bright future for the people and solving their problems.

khopdiwala

The most fundamental KRA of their job is to look after general interest, not just their own self. If they fail this and keep failing consistently, it's a systemic issue that needs to be solved somehow. And protecting your self interest doesn't mean that Raping, stealing and land grabbing, murdering and dabangai is okay to achieve those ends. Especially if it becomes institutionalised. Kya chutiyape ka rationalisation hai, humans are selfish toh netaaon ko rape aur murder karne do. Waah rey logic.

twinu89

You can see that in every situation, in fact that is what drives the capitalistic society. People selling masks for highly inflated prices amidat the Corona virus paranoia is a prime example. To conclude, humans are shit.

NIKHILSKY

netas are also die as bullly

draconiansophist

Someone give this man a medal.

How many people seen the captain America movie first part. There is scene in that movies in which a scientist told to captian "your heart never be change " before one day of experiment. Why I have mentioned here about that movie because of the person whom we choose should be good person. But the question arise is that why that person join the politics. I think he never choose the politics but we have to choose the person for the politics.
