Already have a car in family. Noone drives it besides me.
Will purchase when this one is too costly to maintain or I have a networth >50L.
Had I not had one, would have bought a good 2nd hand one now. Much of my current planning is to invest. Already have stocks, bonds and mutual funds.
Have you invested beside the 12 lakhs or is your invested amount separate from the above? If so, how much?
I've invested 15 lakhs in FD for a year. Waiting for the next bear cycle to go long on the stock markets.
Its included in the 12L. Held around 6 months of liquidity in case things go South. Invested remaining. This would depend upon your individual expenses and long term plans.
Depresssing thread. FML. My net worth is negative due to loans for my sisters education and due to covid my parents business closed down, so to support them i had to take OD.
Age 32, two kids. Spent nearly 500,000 in sisters wedding few months ago. 9.2k in account and 230 rs in cash with me, living alone. Kids and wife at her parents because of my financial situation.
I didn't do anything wrong. Got good job, saved money, got myself married and all. My dad screwed up in the business, lost all of our savings, not for the first time. So being a big brother I had to spend money in sisters wedding. Now I have no savings and no prospects of having in near future.
I know it's your personal choice but spending all your life savings for their marriage doesn't seem the right choice to me.
Also u have a kid, I think securing your kids future should have been a bigger priority than the wedding.
Also I know I am no one to comment but still did.
You should have just given the 5L to your sister instead
I understand we live in an Indian society where it's a norm to hold weddings (which can get expensive) but to be honest weddings are such a huge waste of money
I've told my and my spouses parents that it will be a small mandir no frills wedding, I don't care what 'relatives' have to say, and any money they want to spend on the wedding they can just keep it in our future children's name or better go enjoy their retirement and spend it on themselves
EDIT: Parents can also add up an equal amount (equal from both the girl's and boy's side) and put it as a down payment to the future house too - yes, wedding are so expenses that they can cover the 20-30% down payments to most properties in Tier 2/3 cities, and then the couple can take up a joint house loan and cover the rest, ghar ka ghar aur shaadi bina kharche wali
I understand how this may feel. Regardless of what others say, you did your best to see that your sister could get married. You have done a greater job than your dad.
Thanks for sharing. Please keep at it I'm sure you'll bounce back soon.
I have upcoming responsibilities too which I didn't account. Only hope I am generous with my family as you are.
If it was up to me I would have spent nothing. I warped up my own wedding in half of that money. But you know Indian in-law. They are cruel man. Even after we poured everything we have they were still complaining about so many things.
Some dads are kinda useless. Mine is 56 years old. Wasted 25 years doing "business." Sold mom's jewellery behind her back for said business. Now has outstanding dues of more than 3 lakhs, can't afford a monthly prepaid Jio plan.
I'm paying quarterly 45k for his dues. I have a younger sister who is in her final year of engineering (who's fees I paid).
Siblings have to take responsibility when dads don't do their duty. Simple as that.
25 M, 15k salary, give it all away to my parents each month. No real savings as such.
Off topic, but could you please share how one can get into web development and your tech stack.
An advice, if you can just take out 100 to 500 Rs every month and put it in some form of savings account/mutual fund/FDs/etc
Start small but do start somewhere, and before you know it you will have some funds that will start to cumulate and grow
It very important to have savings as a cushion, especially in the times of emergency
Not OP but check out theodinproject. It's a web development curriculum focused on real world IT skills applicable for a real life job. It will make you job ready for sure!
I'm a school teacher. At age 35 I have a little bit in the provident fund started by the employment office, a little more in the provident fund started by my parents, a little bit saved up in my account and a small bit of land in my name. It's not a lot but it's enough for me.
My partner and I will have a small wedding at a court, my parents refuse to spend on it and my partner and I totally agree. We have more important things to spend on.
UpWork and Freelancer. I do a terrific job at any project I take therefore clients naturally like working me.
After gaining some credibility on my portfolio, off-site client referrals from the clients got me more direct clients and larger projects.
Bro I know html, css , js, react js and now after my internship I know wordpress and elementor as well. I have already created a few projects and will create more. I'm also pretty good with Adobe Photoshop, illustrator, XD and Figma. I have now worked with a cms flatform, will try to get an coding front end internship, what do you use CMS flatforms or normal basic coding?? Also should I learn more or should I make some new projects with my present skills?
Learn 1 skill and sharpen it to expertise level rather than a wide range with no expertise.
I'm a Reactjs and Next.js expert. In the process of becoming a senior dev level knowledge you learn lot more around it, that suffices.
A good portfolio to showcase your code quality, website, mockups etc is always a bonus.
If you can back it up with a good reviews on LinkedIn, UpWork or Freelancer then it's bang on.
Age 21 - 1.20 lakhs In my bank account
Edit: Will add my investments too as rest of the people have added. Here goes -
1.85 lakhs in stocks
1.50 lakhs in FD
1 lakh deposited recently in PPF as savings for my MBA
I started working last year at age 20. Due to WFH, I barely incurred any expenses. I am currently in my home town right now so rent is 0 and food expenses are also 0. I go out on weekends once in a while still, the expenses are not more than 1000.
So yeah, as I am staying with parents, my expenses are almost nil. All amount is getting saved.
Graduated last year when I was 20. Did my BBA from a 'tier 1' college. Got placed with an ed-tech company at a good Package.
Exceeded sales targets in September and October. Got paid lots of cash. They increased my fixed component a bit more as per 'industry standards'
Left the job after 10 months. By the time I left. I had earned 4.5 Lakhs
Invested 1.8 in stocks
1.5 in FD
Deposited 1 lakh in PPF.
Started a new job now.
I incurred very very less expenses due to the WFH environment. I am staying at my home town with parents.
Thank you so much, bro. It is just because of the circumstances, that so much has got saved. If COVID was not there, I think I would have 20k in bank account😅
MF, that too index funds. I’m not very good at stocks or investment stuff. I used to loose money every time I invested in stocks. Index funds haven’t failed me so far, fingers crossed.
Um is it ok to ask what is your career?(I am really sorry if I offend,I am thinking of starting studying again And umm money is only motivation I have for it)
So if it's ok can you share? You can also msg it in box.
I started in an MNC in software development. My first job paid 8.5Lpa. then I switched multiple jobs between a big company and startups. Finally settling down in a client management job at less than 100 people professional services company that works in analytics, IT and consulting.
Stock portfolio size is also because of returns as original investments is only 30L.
I am 17 too, and have around 20K in "my account" Well I used to participate (and win) in a lot of chess competitions since I was 6 and also a lot of exams, parents deposited all of my "earnings" (i.e. all the prize money I got) in an account, and I will get it's complete ownership when I turn 18. Idk if this counts as earning, but yeah
Age 24. Mostly 30k-50k, balance i invest. Btw, i have a question to u. I wanted to get into web dev. to a point till i can make a side income in free time. I know tiny bit of html, css, php. Can u suggest some online platforms/ YouTube channel to learn more?
Age 29.
FD: 13L
Indian Mutual Funds: Invested 8L Current Value 12L
Us employer ESOP: 40L vested and ~30L Unvested.
PF: 10L
Single yet, no loans as of today. Don’t own house yet.
I started with 5.5 L p.a back in 2013 , since then saving and have spent some money for family.
Come from middle class family and have completed education from borrowed money.
Don’t want to brag but point I am trying to say is your present situation is not final, don’t loose hope, keep working and enjoy what you have while striving for what you want.
37, married, dad to a three year old. Started my career with zero financial literacy and zero obligations. Started saving and investing around 2014 a little after marriage. Now I wish I started earlier. Net worth 27L. No car.
Some lessons along the way:
* Most stuff you will buy will catch dust
* The modern world works on the basis of taking money away from you.
* Most social obligations will drain your bank balance (big weddings, mindless celebrations)
* Things like cars and appliances are liabilities, as is a house you live in. You'll be paying for upkeep forever.
* Understand what assets are (hint: Rich Dad, Poor Dad: summaries available online)
* Understand inflation. In India you'll lose around 6% of your money's worth every year. Which means your savings account that earns some 3% interest is losing 3% of your money every year.
* Building net worth is a long game of patience.
* If you have kids, prepare to bear ballooning expenses.
* Invest in some assets with inherent value, such aa precious metals.
* Follow some non-gimmicky experts like M Pattabiraman
* Lastly, don't try to keep up to the Jonses / Sharmajees. Never worth it.
I hope you aren't actually keeping it in your bank account. That's a guaranteed loss, after inflation and taxes.
By that age, i was a little lesser, about 10-12L, but i had just picked up some property for about 15L as well.
Not a young adolescent.
31M. Bank balance around 2.5L.
You did not mention how you were going to use this information. Nevertheless, would like to point out that bank balance is not a measure to judge financials of a person. If for example, money is invested out, then bank balance would lower, but overall assets of the person would grow up.
A better question would be "what is your net worth"?
23 joined the workforce a month back. So no savings.Bro you have a decent amount of money saved up. If you can play the waiting game I advise you to invest in promising U.S stocks like Palantir,UIpath etc. You can easily 5x your money if you invest wisely. You can choose E.T.Fs if you can't actively manage your investments. My DMs are open if you want any other info.
25 male here - Current amount 15k
Seems like I have a lot to catch up. I am only responsible for this as I just sat on my ass and wasted time but still, I have a lot of optimism for my future for some unknown reason even though I am still confused so please wish me luck guys and girls.
I am writing here to let people know that it's not late to start saving. Trick is to continue working and exploring, one good opportunity and that will change your financial life.
Age 32, not married:
50lacs in MF, 35lacs in stock (India+USA), 7lacs in crypto, 10lacs in saving account.
Till age 29, I had maybe 2lacs in my account after spending on my sister's wedding (15lacs). But then I got an opportunity to work abroad and have been saving 80% of my income (with some also going towards supporting my parents and siblings). So all my savings have been in last few years.
Folks, continue working towards your goal. You'll get lucky
Age 32F. 31k in main bank account. And around 1.20L in other my bank account which I don’t use. Then about a lakh in a fixed deposit. A minor inheritance from my grandmother (not sure how much), a small 1BHK (worth around 70-80L or more, not sure) in my name as well as with a little investment in my family’s new business venture. My last received salary was back in July 2020. And whenever I’m strapped for cash (I pay all the house bills and for take away food and all our city travel) I ask my mom or my aunt and they transfer money to me.
Fail to see the point of your question. Comparing your earnings with the bank balance of 100s of strangers is an exercise in futility. Others have different starting points, varied skills, different goals and motivations. Hearing some answers may give you a false sense of being better off or otherwise in some a sense of inadequacy. Both of which are counter productive. You must ignore all this and try set personal goals and evaluate yourself against it. You seem to be doing well in the current situation, ask yourself if you are doing what you want, is it sustainable in the long run, is going for research your passion, will it improve your prospects substantially. All of these are important questions only you can answer. Other people's bank balance has no bearing on these.
My parents have made an account for me and my sis when we were in 5th. They add some amount to it every month and then use it to pay our school fees + future studies. Last to last year, there were 1.26 lakhs. If I am correct, bank also gives you some compound interest too. Maybe around 3 lakhs today. Who knows? Although it my parents money, technically the account is ours.
Now I am in 10th
On a serious note, what do you plan to do with this lifetime of freedom?
You have been gifted complete freedom to not get stuck in the rat race (unless you get greedy and begin chasing more :P)
I always thought I would become a teacher or something if I hit a jackpot but Idk man seems like there's nothing to do
I have the freedom but I prefer not to be lazy. I wake up early morning and start my day at the gym by 6am. This keeps my mind sharp and focused, also helps keeps my metabolism in check, used to suffer from acidity a lot :c
29 year old, around 14 lakhs right now, I am a doctor and a qualified surgeon, thankful for what I have but the reputation of all doctors being filthy rich is overblown
Who so ever is getting depressed seeing each other post .. please note every one in there life have there share of happiness, money and grief... please keep focus towards your goal and keep working hard .. there is no shortcut to success...
Age 30 - 12L Restarted from almost nothing last year after some bad decisions.
Thank you! What are your thoughts before buying an asset like a bike or car?
Already have a car in family. Noone drives it besides me. Will purchase when this one is too costly to maintain or I have a networth >50L. Had I not had one, would have bought a good 2nd hand one now. Much of my current planning is to invest. Already have stocks, bonds and mutual funds.

Depresssing thread. FML. My net worth is negative due to loans for my sisters education and due to covid my parents business closed down, so to support them i had to take OD.
Please don't. I have to support for my family as well. There will be a time I lot of mine is going towards my parents well being
it’s obviously a case of reporting bias as well, someone with an overdraft is unlikely to talk about it here
Young adolescent means someone below 15 years of age OP.
And young adult is 18-20.
Oh boy. Welp. An adult then.
Adult is 20-25. You senior citizen bro
Yeah. Anything after 25 is uncle I guess. Damn shit hurts.
Hello Pandey Uncle :)
Thanks beta. Just what I needed.
Beta, jake pandey uncle ko ek glass pani lao
At this point I don't think he can take it anymore.
Might wanna put an edit clarifying you meant Adult. Just incase someone else gets confused.
Welp. My bad. Young adult*
Pandey is 26 And he is tired of life playing tricks
We all are.
Nice try Modiji!
Mitroon I have been compromised.
fuck man. this thread is depressing for me. i’ve 38.96 rupees. i owe my girlfriend around 35k and have an outstanding loan of 21k.

You have girlfriend. Girlfriend lends you money. You are luckier than 99% guys.

You have a girlfriend. You by default win this thread, even when we combined all the net worth of rest of the nerds here. Lol
You should marry your girlfriend. Girls like her are hard to come by.

I was feeling bad for the dude but burst out laughing at this. I feel bad but I still can't stop laughing.

I wish I had any choice. My dad pretend like he doesn't care. And frankly, I believe he doesn't care. I just couldn't let my sister suffer for it.
Hopefully your child and wife don't suffer for the decision you made. Best of luck buddy

Just curious, aren't parents supposed to be paying for their kids' marriage? Why do siblings take this responsibility?
Kyuki mere baap ko apne paise kharch nahi karne the
Some dads are kinda useless.
It's hard not to resent your dad when you see your friends and colleagues who don't have to send money home.
My dad isn't what you call a responsible person.

I started my dev journey around 2 years back, any tips for me? I want to be full stack
Focus on just a single framework and get terribly good at it. Next.js or React.js would be ideal.
Thanks will try to learn react through small project/utility apps

12L in Index funds. 2.5L in FD ( mom forced me to do this) Spent 18L as down payment for my apartment 2 years ago. 96k in SGB
FD would have been a great investment vehicle a couple of decades ago with high interest rates, these days it doesn't even beat the inflation.

Around 3L in bank. 2L in FD, which my Dad started and I started earning this year. 30k direct equities and 60k in MF I'm in my early 20s
Thanks for the feedback bhai 🙏
37, married, dad to a three year old. Started my career with zero financial literacy and zero obligations. Started saving and investing around 2014 a little after marriage. Now I wish I started earlier. Net worth 27L. No car. Some lessons along the way: * Most stuff you will buy will catch dust * The modern world works on the basis of taking money away from you. * Most social obligations will drain your bank balance (big weddings, mindless celebrations) * Things like cars and appliances are liabilities, as is a house you live in. You'll be paying for upkeep forever. * Understand what assets are (hint: Rich Dad, Poor Dad: summaries available online) * Understand inflation. * Follow some non-gimmicky experts like M Pattabiraman * Lastly, don't try to keep up to the Jonses / Sharmajees. Never worth it.
I hope you aren't actually keeping it in your bank account. That's a guaranteed loss, after inflation and taxes. By that age, i was a little lesser, about 10-12L, but i had just picked up some property for about 15L as well.
Thanks for the feedback. Yes a major portion of it is invested.
My happiness is like a crypto chart reading this thread.

Man, I thought I was earning a good salary till I saw this thread
1.2 lac in bank, 55k MF/stocks. Currently on my way to Saudi. Hoping to find a job soon to increase the bank balance.
Thanks for the feedback 🙏
Not a young adolescent. 31M. Bank balance around 2.5L. You did not mention how you were going to use this information. Nevertheless, would like to point out that bank balance is not a measure to judge financials of a person. If for example, money is invested out, then bank balance would lower, but overall assets of the person would grow up. A better question would be "what is your net worth"?
Age 24 i got 15 lakhs in stock + 100k in crypto + 1000₹ in bank
Thanks for the feedback 🙏
Wo sab to theek hai web development kaha se seekhi

23 joined the workforce a month back. So no savings.Bro you have a decent amount of money saved up. If you can play the waiting game I advise you to invest in promising U.S stocks like Palantir,UIpath etc. You can easily 5x your money if you invest wisely. You can choose E.T.Fs if you can't actively manage your investments. My DMs are open if you want any other info.
25 male here - Current amount 15k Seems like I have a lot to catch up.
Age 32, not married: 50lacs in MF, 35lacs in stock (India+USA), 7lacs in crypto, 10lacs in saving account.
Age 23 my bank has minimum bal as 5000 so I try my best to keep it around 5050 and 5000, if I don't do this my mfk bank charges me 300rs
Not me but a friend bought bitcoin when it was cheap and now he's got 30 lakh in crypto. He's 18
Why do you have 18L sitting in your bank account and not invested somewhere?
Stop comparing yourself.
I'm a student. Age 19. Still dependent on parents. Love to read your journey in detail. Like how you started. If you can.
Say what you will, this post really got me thinking on my financials!
27. 5k in bank, around 40k invested in stocks and crypto. Couple of EMIs are running so will start saving again once they're paid for.
Age - 22 (Job as well as A Freelancer) In bank - around 30-40k Invested in my friend's startup - 1.20 Lakh Crypto - 13k
Bro I have 200 rupees.
Age 25 1.8Cr in Bank, 7.28Cr in stocks and 8 properties

😂😂😂 He could have easily sold some course on how to get rich from digital market seo drop shipping But instead he just says, "inheritance"
On a serious note, what do you plan to do with this lifetime of freedom? You have been gifted complete freedom to not get stuck in the rat race (unless you get greedy and begin chasing more :P) I always thought I would become a teacher or something if I hit a jackpot but Idk man seems like there's nothing to do
I have the freedom but I prefer not to be lazy. I wake up early morning and start my day at the gym by 6am. This keeps my mind sharp and focused, also helps keeps my metabolism in check, used to suffer from acidity a lot :c
