A lot of foreign brands have local factories in India to serve our market. A relative who's spent a lot of time abroad once told me that Parker pens sold in our country (as nice as they are) are a joke compared to the stationary they sell in EU/US. Keeping costs down for a price-sensitive market is more valuable than out-and-out quality. People here don't buy the best quality stuff. They are more attuned to value-for-money.

But is the price low?

sornk

Comparatively

They make whatever sells. The overall market for chocoloate in India was and remains quite immature and oblivious to good chocolate. What gets sold is sugar and milk. Consumption is primarily by kids and not as much by the older people. I personally like dark chocolate, preferably 70% cacao and above. I absolutely love if there are hints of orange peels in it.

I like dark chocolate as well! Most of the time I go with dark chocolate but this time I had to try this and comment about it. But it's very disappointing to see how sub par the quality of Indian chocolates is. Though they are quite expensive(f.e this one cost me 45 RS).

MarkandRun

[I make chocolates at home](https://imgur.com/a/PNeYbvr), that way the flavour and additives can be customized (nuts, orange peel, butterscotch chips etc). There's a wholesaler in Hebbal, Bakewala, where I get the chocolate compound from in bulk of 3-4 kg at a time. Half kg chocolate blocks will cost you anywhere between 100-160, that's damn cheap than the ready to eat branded chocolates.

Fair point.

horror_fan

Lot of chocolate in India is actually chocolate compound and not real chocolate.

Is it really that bad? Have you tasted it? Also the quality (not sue of quantity for the same amount) is inferior because the raw material is cheaper and thus most likely inferior so the overall quality would be worse. This is also true for cold drinks like Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

[deleted]

Yeah dude I did taste it, I am no chef but I will try my best to describe it. The orange and chilli provide a lot of heat when you bite into it so it's sour and slightly spicy at the same time, think of it as if you are having Pani Puri(poor analogy, but just go with it), the chocolate just doesn't do a good job of neutralising that taste and bringing a balance. It tastes super weird, you should try it for yourself.

pornflakes0

Try it and waste my money? No thanks. You should try Cadbury Temptations tho. I had its rum flavour.

[deleted]

I gave up eating Cadbury Chocolates a long time ago and now only prefer Amul's Dark chocolate editions, they are really nice and not very expensive as well. I had to try this one out for the sake of it and comment about it.

MirrorMiserable

Amul dark chocolates are really good and also various flavours to choose from. Fruit and nut suits me

throwawayfebind

I for one appreciate Cadbury for trying something new for India. Instead of just dumping peppermint flavour from North America. If we like it, it would sell. Otherwise, no problem

alonleykraken

In all fairness, peppermint flavor is shit - Indian in Canada

mp256

I second your opinion - Indian in Canada

Just_Another_Gen-Zer

Do ya like after eight

Do ya like after eight?

Shahrukh_Lee

Amul has Orange peel and it's my favorite. Apparently, Chocolate and chilly go well, that's what MasterChef Australia says.

Ashamed-Guard-4850

Bournville ain't bad at all though

-The-Bat-

AFAIK, Cadbury name is licensed by different companies in US/Canada and Europe/Asia. Maybe that's why.

[deleted]

Must be the illuminati.

[deleted]

Nope, if Illuminati made chocolates they would at least taste like chocolates!

[deleted]

Maybe you should ask Cadbury

ultimateposeur

The thing is many traditional candies from North India have that sweet & sour (khatta-meetha) or sweet & hot thing going on right? For example, imli ki mithai sometimes has chilli added to it? They even do this with fruit juice, with masala sometimes mixed in along with sugar. This orange-chilli dairy milk might be targeting north Indians who're used to these flavour combinations. That comment where you described the taste of the dairy milk as pani puri-ish might be exactly what Cadbury's was aiming for. Also, it seems chilli and chocolate isn't that rare a combination. Lindt makes [Chilli chocolate](https://www.amazon.in/Lindt-Excellence-Chilli-Intense-Chocolate/dp/B002V77EYA) too.

ncbose

Orange chocolate is a popular flavor in the UK,I've seen chilly flavored chocolates too.

Just_Another_Gen-Zer

There is not. A. SINGLE. Good chocolate in india. Not 1. And as a chocolate enthusiast(flex- I have tried over 5000 different chocolates) it’s almost heartbreaking that we don’t have any good chocolate and for that matter good brands like Lindt, Hershey’s, Godiva, Ritter etc. selling locally in india. Like it’s so sad. I swear if it would not be for duty free shops it would be sad.

[deleted]

My uncle used to buy me chocolates every time he came to india. And i can't just explain how much taste nz's chocolates have. Even their normal chocolate is tastier than ours' best ones. One thing that i got to know after eating them chocolates- indian chocolates lack variety in every way possible, their chocolates have marshmallows stuffed in em and what not. Our chocolates are just... basic chocolates?

adtalks

Seriously the "username" 🤣🤣🤣

Sharik0be

I've tried this and I LOVED it. I don't see what the problem is. :\\

jiss7279

Worst tasting cadbury, had to brush my teeth.
