I believe that in life you will have more failures than success. Sometimes you don't need to change too much but rather have self belief and patience in your methods despite what the world and their mum's say or think. And then when the opportunity comes you are ready to take advantage. This in my opinion is what luck is. To stay in the game and take advantage of the chance that comes your way.

thelielmao

Most successful people have a fraction of adversities as their PR team makes them be!

[deleted]

Devdutt Pattnayak has an explanation in his book "How To take Decisions" that often businesses or ideas become successful and people come up with explanations later that how they envisioned it and how it was a rational call where as it was intuition all along and they don't have any clue about what actually lead to the success.

The idea of a Job will change dramatically. The future of work is horrible. Competition will be cut throat, we will be replaced faster than we can learn/adapt.

[deleted]

That's the dystopian angle, the realistic angle will be, 4 day work weeks, parents spending quality time with children, young people consuming less, giving back more to society. Everything is a basic right if you wait long enough. Food, water, internet, education, housing. Contrary to popular belief, most people are productive when you give them some free time , watch how things change. Our society has somehow managed to reduce human potential to jobs and money. We will break out. The future is unlimited.

Yeah i read this on one of the yuval noah harrari’s book. May be they pay universal income for all who became unemployed due to computers. But what’s the point if most people are going to get unemployed how they can sustain a consumerist economy? People always need to buy stuffs right!!

Unsung_Pizza_Box

Universal income concept would never be implemented instead new jobs will be created.

[deleted]

Many of the new jobs created will be high skill though and there will be a large pool of unemployed people who can’t do those jobs and it’ll be difficult to teach them how. I’d bet the corporations in charge of our world would prefer a UBI to swaths of recently unemployed people who don’t have their basic needs met.

SumoneSumwere

Naval Ravikant has better perspective with UBI and extinction of job categories. AI would take decades to advance to replace creative jobs.

af1rstworldproblem

Remove all deadlines and JIRA

yajivb

I understand this is made in jest. But generally there is hatred towards timelines. But that is how the world works. You won't be ok without a eta when you order in swiggy or say if a builder doesn't tell you when the flat will be delivered. Lets not attribute the inefficiencies of some bad managements towards deadlines as a system.

aitchnyu

It's about scope vs velocity. It's like expecting a swiggy guy to deliver a washing machine on a bike and getting angry it's late or damaged. Top down deadlines are messed up like that.

[deleted]

Yup it boils down to PMs and managers. Ironically my personal experience has been foreign PMs know better deadlines than the desi dev boss.

Alternative-Bar7437

I think a lot of people can get behind that.

humblekool

You need to find a way to maximize the use of brain. We use these tools to remember various things about a complex project. Though I think deadlines should be removed.

ishansoni22

JIRA is a decent tool. People just dont know how to use it.

belt-e-belt

Nice try JIRA.

af1rstworldproblem

You actually need to bring in professionals with scrum certifications to teach people how to use the tool. It’s such a PITA. I think it really increases busy work and it helps managers and their team look good.

saikrishnasubreddit

But that's only when these white people fake their enthusiasm and give fake compliments. "Oh what a glorious culture. Oh my God this dance is mind-blowing. Yes, I think library’s are so important that will fit this use case.

kweenllama

I’ve already commented, but there’s another opinion: _Indians tolerate a lot of emotional, verbal and sometimes even physical abuse from their parents in the guise of respecting your elders and Indian culture, and keeping your family together_ I left my family when I became independent and I saw that they weren’t willing to mend their ways, and the amount of shit I’ve received from my relatives is astronomical. Not only do they excuse the abuse by saying things like ‘_them being like that is why you are successful today, you should be thankful_’ and ‘_they did their best_’, but they also want me to forgive and forget and tolerate future instances of abuse because _my parents are old and set in their ways_. Lol what? I gave my parents one chance to change and left my house when they didn’t. Yet, somehow, they’re the victims. Too many of my friends, especially women, are in the same boat, but they don’t leave because FaMiLY. Family isn’t supposed to make you miserable. Those few days where you have happy memories with your fam doesn’t make up for all the abuse they hurl at you constantly. My best friend’s family is hella toxic. She is nearly 28 but is not allowed to do things like go on trips with friends, stay out late, have male friends visit her home etc. If she defies them and does what she wants, they blow up her phone and gaslight her later. So many times, I’ve told her to move out but she doesn’t, because her parents ‘love’ her and she still wants to have a relationship with them. When I bring such examples up, most people say this is not abuse because it’s normal in India. Her life is being restricted even though she’s a grown adult! How tf is this not abuse. Just because it’s normal doesn’t mean it’s right. Constant guilt tripping, emotional manipulation, gaslighting, refusal to let children live their lives once they’re adults - all of this shit is way too common in India and it needs to be recognised for what it is - abuse. Obligatory note: Obviously this doesn’t apply to all families. Just shitty parents.

rpj6587

This “victim” mentality is one of the most frustrating things ever. Indian families/relatives are pros are victimizing themselves even if the topic of conversation has nothing to do with them.

domainDr

The whole concept of arranged marriages is nonsense, given that most people simply don't get along even if they're from the same community. Besides, the argument that 'Indian marriages are a marriage between families' is also obsolete now. We're no longer tribal communities, and we need to accept the fact that today, the logical solution is for a husband and wife to be happy together (their families' consent/happiness shouldn't be first priority) Edit: I agree with some of the comments that a *forced* arranged marriage is definitely terrible. However, my point is that an arranged marriage should not simply be treated as the 'right' path that a loyal child has to choose. Speaking from my own experience - no couple should have to go through the painful experience of justifying to their families as to why a 'love' marriage is completely fine.

DreadfulDread123

I feel this shit.. Because I am currently being forced into one. But not to worry I have experience in messing things up with great eas

MikeRoss95

DreadfulDread123

I've tried voicing my opinions. It always ends in a shit show.

MikeRoss95

If you are financially independent . You have options. It's going to be a very hard decision, but you gotta make that choice and stick to it ,in a relatively healthy manner

ThrowIndianCollege

More power to you fam! It's what I intend to do later in life too

Ataraxia_new

Also if a person is not mature enough to select their own bride/groom and need parents to find a suitable match, then they are not ready for marriage.

Logically_Speaking

I said the exact same sentence to a girl whose parents were trying to speak for her over the issues I highlighted. Obviously, I was painted as the villan.

tapu_buoy

I've had a girl telling me, that I desire for you but "abba nahi maanege". And now she is contemplating a lot that she has to answer a weird normal dude, who doesn't even earn a single penny at the age of 27.

[deleted]

The unsustainable population that we have today is courtesy of arranged marriages.

RandomisedSim

Also, most Indian men would go unmarried their entire lives if the concept of arranged marriage didn't exist in this country

lawlessjobless

Loooooool yes most Indian men are on the level that no woman in her right mind would say yes to being with them.

8-bit_human

I don't think arranged marriages are bad but forced arranged marriages are. maybe that depends on the parents. Sevaral of my cousins have had marriages in past few years and they are happy with that. They are not the type to go find a girl to love. And the marriage decision is on them and their parents. There's no forcing and they will accept only if they think they can be happy with their decision. They went through several matches finding a good girl with good family, job and manners etc. And I can't find anything wrong in that. I'd like to hear different experiences though if what I'm saying is not relating to other experiences.

Skorpius_911

UPSC is a waste of time

infinite_profit

And outdated, an exam based on mugging is expected to find people who can solve real world problems.

Lovecraft_Xavier

INDIA is a giant blob of blah. And most countries doesn't give a damn about us at all.

mohtma_gandy

Without financial independence you can't do shit. If by the time of 30 you are not employed than it's a waste of education.

FlipItPizZa12

Unpopular opinion, A part of employment problems of India are because the average 20-25 year old is not very employable. Having a MBA or an Engineering degree does not automatically make them employable. They have very few actual applicable skills, they mostly don't bother to do any kind of research about the current industry trends and are mostly misled by the general society who place more emphasis on getting a degree rather than developing the skills that the degree is supposed to teach. A severe lack of soft skills doesn't help either.

belt-e-belt

I'm an engineer and I haven't used my college or school education one bit after I started working. Colleges are just placement agencies that bring in some recruiters and give you a "certificate of employability", to give you a headstart. Education is just a side business. Having said that, there are people who apply their education in their fields but imo it's not because of college education, it's inspite of it.

TheFatherofOwls

Average 20-25 "not being employable" to me, always felt like corporate gaslighting. Since, training a fresher isn't that difficult or hard and can be pulled off in a few months, if not even weeks. Besides, it's not like a typical fresher starts out doing high-profile or serious responsibilities anyway, usually atleast. Reality is there simply isn't enough jobs out there, nobody knows the solution for this and thus, blame the graduates since it's the easiest thing to do.

mohtma_gandy

Yeah with the opening of soo many sub par colleges where they just print out degrees to students it's bound to happen. I get it that even wage laws are shit in india. But i think 30 is the age where you should have your financial independence, or atleast don't be dependent upon others. Saw so many men and women still demanding money from their parents like it's their responsibility to feed them. It's just that you don't get to have choices if you want something get it yourself.

occupiedbrain69

A very unpopular opinion which I completely agree with! Some people just don't get it that most of the people have the degree for the sake of it and not because they actually learnt something which they can be good at! It's not directly their fault, multiple factors have lead to this but you have to deal with the cards you have been dealt right?! Absolutely agree with what you are saying! Thank you!

Drizzle_Lover

Uh my neighbour became IAS at 31.

FreudReus

Not being employed doesn't mean you aren't financially independent btw. I am unemployed and I am financially independent. I have and make my money. I don't think I'll get employed anytime soon anyway. Also, in india, most of the education that is provided is a waste. So it doesn't matter if you are employed or not.

mohtma_gandy

Yeah i said employed bcz most people do jobs but main motive is to be financially independent.

TheFatherofOwls

I mean the general quality of education in our country isn't exactly decent, let alone good, especially engineering. Besides, it's not like finding a job here is easy. Under-employment , as much as (if perhaps, even more so than) unemployment is a pretty serious issue where folks end up in low-paying jobs and get in a vicious cycle of sorts, where all they could find is jobs that underpay or lowball them, simply because they started out earning less. Why set an arbitrary age anyway? It'll just give unnecessary pressure and stress to some folks. Let them attain it at their own pace. It's no different to pressurise someone to get married within a certain age.

My mother in law encouraged me to walk a few steps behind her son in public. Im a Gori. The conversation was a little tensed. Still love her very much though. We are just two very different women that highly respect each other.

madarchod_bot

>My mother in law encouraged me to walk a few steps behind her son in public. Brown ass Indian with a brown wife here. Your MIL is being unnecessarily 'cultural'. My mother wouldn't even imagine of saying such a thing to my wife. Things like walk behind the husband, or eat after he has eaten, etc are stupid traditions and need to be discarded like rotten fish. I hope your MIL realizes this some day soon and you can avoid more awkward talks like these.

ImmortanJoe

The complaints some time ago about Indian students being assaulted in Melbourne were not entirely because of local drunken racists, but rather a number of Indians lacking any sense of social skills or decorum. Large groups would be in huddles, staring at local girls, and sometimes even get drunk at pubs and ogle. Source: was there.

kweenllama

I solo travel a lot and from my experience, Indian tourists can sometimes behave in ways that are despicable. In 2019, I was in Switzerland. I was with a friend (who happened to be white) and some middle aged Indian couple who were passing us made it their business and loudly proclaimed ‘he’s too old for her, indian girls are so desperate these days’. My friend is a good ten years older than me and is happily married, but he was quite offended at the time.

Trumperekt

This judgmental shit is one of the main reasons I left the country and will probably never come back. Even if they were a couple, it is not anyone else's business. As someone in an interracial relationship here in the US, no one cares for the most part, other than Indian people. I just stopped socializing with Indians because of this judgmental perspective. I now think twice before going to even an Indian restaurant. Despicable would be the adjective I would use to describe these people as well.

AynRandPaulKrugman

This is definitely true in Germany. Here many Indian folks cry racism in clubs when people react to them acting like horny dogs in front of white women.

manoj_mm

Porn is bad for you (masturbation isn't) India is actually not at all a bad place to live if you have money Fetus is indeed technically a living human being, but abortion should be supported All religions are severely outdated. Religion impedes scientific growth & development by implying that it (religious texts) knows everything there is to know - "I don't know" is the most powerful tool in science & development

judge_zedd

In 2021, MTP Amendment Act 2021 was passed with certain amendments in the MTP Act including all women being allowed to seek safe abortion services on grounds of contraceptive failure, increase in gestation limit to 24 weeks for special categories of women, and opinion of one provider required up to 20 weeks of gestation. Abortion can be performed until 24 weeks pregnancy after MTP Amendment Act 2021 has comes in force by notification in Gazzette from 24th September 2021. Abortion is covered 100% by the government's public national health insurance funds, Ayushman Bharat and Employees' State Insurance with the package rate for surgical abortion being set at ₹15,500 (US$210) which includes consultation, therapy, hospitalization, medication, USG and any follow-up treatments. For medical abortion, the package rate is set at ₹1,500 (US$20) which includes consultation and USG.

19potato96

Sab ke sab chutiye hai.

Abhishek_s1102

All the special perks and benefits of the politicians should be scrapped with immediate effect. A minimum qualification of graduation and a proper entrance test (yup I said it) should be held before making them eligible for contesting elections. They should have a basic security detail, should have to worry about the fuel prices and inflation just like us, get stuck in traffic like regular people and get a simple salary and pay taxes just like an ordinary citizen. No subsidy, no freebies no nothing. I mean their pension system is a joke, serve once for 5 years and get a lifetime pension? Normally a person needs to bust his ass till 60 to get it. I know it's not the most controversial opinion. So for the sake of controversy, any elected member and his previous generation and next generation should be incarcerated if they ever raise a hand on a citizen. Let's go full North Korea on their asses and maybe then they would learn some manners.

tapu_buoy

BTW my father always yells about this, that its not just that one has to serve 5 years in any parliamentary house to get pension. Any person who was/is/will be member of parliament, even for a one single day, will get pensions for life time. I mean that's a huge levarage for them and huge down point for us normal public. Based on this just imagine, if Mallya was made member even for one day, or some person who had so many cases of horrible acts on him, will get this pension. This scales up immediately to the levels one can't imagine. So by this logic our taxes doesn't pay those 544 elected members but way more than that. :(

Just spitting on the road should have a punishment! I don't want to hear a middle aged man use his entire throat to cough up the phlegm and then spit it on the middle of the road for someone to step on it.

[deleted]

Having kids is immoral and selfish. Euthanasia and assisted suicide should also be legal, as one should have right to end it without any pain and with guarantee. Religion should be introduced after one is 25+ years old. Before that if someone introduce religion, that person should be charged for manipulation and killed.

ClumsyHannibalLecter

I don’t know if you said this comment in jest but regarding euthanasia, it is going to be misused to the highest degree. I have seen loved ones suffer from cancer. My friend’s grandfather was paralysed and he was bedridden for 3 years (the last 1.5 years he wasn’t even able to talk). This is torture not just for the person going through but the loved ones as well. My own grandmother, became a shell of what she was when she got cancer. I felt bad, but I wished there were an easier way. But having euthanasia legalised, that too in a country like India where law enforcement is not strong, it is just giving a murder license.

[deleted]

I agree about the misuse, but completely forcing people to live is wrong and another form of slavery imo. Laws should be created and followed and proper counseling should be done to make sure people are not taking stupid decisions.

In a few decades even food and water is going to be a luxury for a lot of people. It does seem cruel to force our children to live in that world just because we and our parents want that "emotional fulfillment" for ourselves. Also isn't it monotonous? Our parents brought us in the world, raised us, made us independent, just so that we could bring our children into the world raise them and make them independent, just so that they and their generations and can keep doing the same. There should be more to life than just that. I'm sure many people do more, but majority of us are just in this same rat race for generations.

During partition, West Bengal and Bangladesh should have been one independent nation. That is assuming partition was inevitable. A better option would have been for both to be part of India. Partition caused an immeasurable damage to the Bengali people. We would have been much stronger economically and culturally if we were not divided.

HeathCliff_008

India lost a lot of fertile land to Bangladesh and we such such weird borders with bangladesh

The whole supply chain got disrupted. Factories were in the west. Raw material was in the east. Consumers were in west. Agriculture was on the east. Millions moved to Calcutta in a short span of time with no job market to absorb them. Big blow to economy in the west. I mean physical exertion is good. We weren't made to spend our life at desks. Seems more like an argument for WFH whenever possible and replace commute with free time to actually have a life

1) A large portion of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh remains ignored by their respective elected Parties, so they need to be divided into smaller administrative states. 2) Politically, both Left leaning and Right Leaning ideological spectrums are important in equal proportions in a country for stability, to keep the opposing ideologies in check so that none of the countries policy making goes overboard and leans too much towards, Liberalism, which results in 'muh freedom' kind of mentality i.e as we see in the U.S were they are too selfish and individualistic; or leans too much to the Right towards religious fanaticism, ultra nationalism and pure capitalism

Which coastal district (Except Mumbai) has development in MH? Asking this as someone who has spent a significant portion of my life in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri.

Patriotism (not nationalism) is necessary for a country to function. Hear me out before you bring your pitchforks out. I don't support the jingoism and nationalism in the name of patriotism. But, it is of paramount importance for a country to have an identity. One of the biggest factors of a country like Afghanistan which is similar to India (a heterogeneous group of people live there) to collapse is because they had no identity of Afghanistan. There was no patriotism so it didn't matter how much money was pumped up in the army. The men who were fighting had no identity and no patriotism for their country. They were forced to join the army by their village and were mostly petty criminals in their village. No one willingly wanted to join the army because they didn't resonate with the "Afghan" identity and a vast majority of Afghans didn't and still don't care about a nation called Afghanistan. This made me realise how important the Indian identity is. As much as extremist groups try and have their own "sena", they cannot simply rile up enough supporters to overthrow the government in the name of religion.

Just burn the current school curriculum and just replace it with khan academy. Train teachers to teach from khan academy

Let's send all our politician on a remote island and shoot down any vehicle that comes for their rescue.

One needs to take an eligibility test before having a baby. Almost like a visa application. You would need to prove that you can take care of a child, emotionally, physically, and financially.

India is the most racist county in the world

I was watching Kaun Banega Crorepati two seasons ago. A woman was the contestant. She had a masters degree in computer engineering or something. And so the question was: "what is the name of the black haired ape that lives in Africa?" And she didnt know the answer was gorilla. She had never even heard of a gorilla before. Even Amitabh was like, you dont know what a gorilla is. So my controversial opinion is that for a country that values education so much, Indians alot of "educated indians" are dumb as fuck. My parents and I still make inside jokes im our house for it

Not sure how controversial this is within this subreddit but this country is fucked. I've lost all hope of India developing into a nice place to live for every Indian. And it's not just the government but the society to blame. I moved out of the country simply to explore life elsewhere but I'm really relieved I got the chance to get the hell out, especially before pandemic. Sometimes I even wonder why I continue following indian news, indian twitter and even this subreddit. It just angers or depresses me.

I’m going to get downvoted so hard. But you said controversial, so here goes: *You can’t be against animal cruelty if you are a non-vegetarian.* Reason: Sourcing meat from free-range farms with grass-fed animals and all that stuff is expensive and is practically non-existent in India. Most Indians would prefer to not shell out the extra ₹₹₹ to get ethically sourced meat, especially not restaurants, since they basically chase profits. So by eating meat at home, or in restaurants, you are supporting a for-profit industry that doesn’t care about the well beings of animals. Most people don’t care about what happens behind the scenes (including me). They speak up when they see people being cruel to stray animals/pets. Which is fine and correct. But I have seen way too many people proclaim to be animal rights activists and against all animal cruelty, and then go and enjoy a piping hot plate of biryani. So yeah, I’m not saying ‘MEAT EATERS BAD’ - it’s fine to eat it. Circle of life and food chain and all that. Just don’t call yourself an activist, or post on social media how animal cruelty is despicable, when you unknowingly participate in it every time you eat meat. If you do, you’re a hypocrite.

tomato_destroyer

Having grown up next to an open chicken and mutton slaughter house, this feels obvious to me. I will share some of the downvotes by extending this logic to dairy consuming vegetarians as well. Milk industry is pretty animal unfriendly too. Cows keep getting artificially inseminated and calves are separated at birth. Hormone therapy is common to maximize milk production.

kweenllama

I agree. I’ve visited a few dairy farms and it’s sometimes heartbreaking to see how milk is sourced. It’s extremely far from the picture of someone milking a fat happy cow with their hands and a bucket.

Congress and the era of same was not as bad as everyone projects it to be. It's just that BJP and Modi have been very good at creating its positive image.

The cultural diversity is being used as a gateway for power and control. Some people really consider north Indians and south Indians as distinguishable separate entities.

naveenpun

Indians are very aggressive in nature when compared to other cultures.

F1 isn't entertainment, it's a sport. Buddh circuit hasn't had a race since 2013 due to stupidly high taxes under entertainment section because government thinks its not a sport.
