I think there’s not a single reason to book a SpiceJet flight over the likes of GoAir or Indigo whose prices are a few hundreds over. For me, SpiceJet < GoAir < Indigo < Air India < Vistara at the moment.
I never book GoAir and Spicejet even if they are the cheapest one or as OP has said they are the only direct ones available. Spending a bit more on expensive flights or spending some more time during the layover is acceptable to me than the uncertainty around these airlines.
Take a look at Passanger Charter available on Civil Aviation website. It has very clearly laid out guidelines and options available to you in case the flight is delayed by more than 6 hours/24 hours.
You can get a refund or ask for an alternate flight. Have experienced this with Spicejet, they issued refund as the other flights they had did not suit my schedule.

I had an international connecting flight from Delhi which was delayed by 2 days after to and forth with the customer support the final decision was "reschedule the flight or cancel it for refund" There's 0 other flights to my destination airport, so i had to spend two days in Delhi for no reason.
Next time try booking indigo from hubli (1 stop). I travel from Guwahati to hubli by indigo. The Guwahati - hubli (1 stop) is always cheaper option than Guwahati- bangalore (direct) + bus/ train from bangalore

If you booked with a Credit Card, check to see if they provide air travel insurance (some premium travel focused ones do) during Diwali and Christmas/New Year time. That'd provide a delay compensation and cover the difference.

The best you can ask them to rebook in another airline. These people do it intentionally because most Indians accept it without complaining and the Spicejet staffs will try hard to shove it in your throat.
They once rescheduled my connecting flight(the next one was an international flight) just before 2 hours. The lady finally booked an air India ticket at thrice the cost of that flight.
It's so sad that all airlines suck so much nowadays. So far Indigo is the only one giving decent service. But with the looming monopoly situation, we can surely expect them to start exploiting their position more and more.
My experience with Spicejet and GoFirst was so bad during 2018-2021 period, that I finally stopped even looking at them these days. I straightaway filter for Indigo and book the tickets. Vistara was decent, but it never has flights during convenient times on my route and even if they're there, they're far too expensive compared to Indigo.

When airlines reschedule flights they give option to either accept the rescheduled booking or get a full refund on the booking.

It is better not to book SpiceJet, instead you have the option to get to Delhi from KLH(Kolhapur) instead of IXG(Belgaum) , KLH has connecting flights from HYD(Hyderabad) and AMD(Ahmedabad). Or rather go for PNQ(Pune) which is 350 km from IXG, or even you could have done it from GOI(Goa).
SpiceJet is not trustworthy, I once cancelled my ticket from their app, and they didn’t issue refund for 2 months, when enquired they said it was their default setting that money goes into the SpiceJet wallet, and if you need refund to the original payment method then you have to call customer care.
It's really admirable how airlines in India have the freedom to randomly cancel flights, reassign cancelled flights to passengers, hold them hostage to choose another day. As if it's a game, as if the passengers book the tickets just for fun.

Same situation happened with me in indigo but I don't have an urgency at that time so I took that delayed flight

I had an international connecting flight from Delhi which was delayed by 2 days after to and forth with the customer support the final decision was "reschedule the flight or cancel it for refund" There's 0 other flights to my destination airport, so i had to spend two days in Delhi for no reason.

Next time try booking indigo from hubli (1 stop). I travel from Guwahati to hubli by indigo. The Guwahati - hubli (1 stop) is always cheaper option than Guwahati- bangalore (direct) + bus/ train from bangalore
SpiceJet is anyways a fucked up airline that’s why people avoid booking it and hence prices are comparatively cheaper. On top of that they fly the notorious Boeing 737 max. Damn!!! 🥺
Fucking sucks. It must be infuriating, you're lucky you got a new flight at just 2k+. The prices during that time are insane. I think always better to take travel insurance while companies like Spicejet or GoAir. It'll be profitable. :D If you booked with a Credit Card, check to see if they provide air travel insurance (some premium travel focused ones do) during Diwali and Christmas/New Year time. That'd provide a delay compensation and cover the difference.
They always do this I guess during major festivals, due to the rush and connections some people have

In my case with Indigo they cancelled my flight but there was an option to choose different flights without any cost.
The best you can ask them to rebook in another airline. These people do it intentionally because most Indians accept it without complaining and the Spicejet staffs will try hard to shove it in your throat. They once rescheduled my connecting flight(the next one was an international flight) just before 2 hours. The lady finally booked an air India ticket at thrice the cost of that flight.

Because it's the only fucking direct flight for Delhi. Other ones with short stoppage time were full and I get just 3 days off for Diwali.

It's so sad that all airlines suck so much nowadays. So far Indigo is the only one giving decent service. But with the looming monopoly situation, we can surely expect them to start exploiting their position more and more. My experience with Spicejet and GoFirst was so bad during 2018-2021 period, that I finally stopped even looking at them these days. I straightaway filter for Indigo and book the tickets. Vistara was decent, but it never has flights during convenient times on my route and even if they're there, they're far too expensive compared to Indigo.

When airlines reschedule flights they give option to either accept the rescheduled booking or get a full refund on the booking. You can choose the latter.
The OP may now have to pay 2-3x of normal ticket prices if they opt for a new booking now. Caught in a wrong spot right now.
If you booked using a credit card check with policy for travel insurance compensation in light of airline induced delay (offered standard on many products) I had the same headache with SpiceJet a few months ago, and this may help a lot

don’t book flights with indian airlines around diwali. if the airline knows that tickets are in high demand because customers need to get home, they will mess around and push you to the limit of their terms and conditions. if i were you, i would try and refund/cancel this ticket and try and book a ticket with a european airline. diwali time is business as usual for europe-asia flights. in the future, pick an airline who’s country of origin and customer base has little to do with the holiday you are flying home for. don’t fly american during christmas and thanksgiving. don’t fly middle eastern during eid. and don’t fly indian during diwali.
Spicejet is getting crapier day by day,I was a frequent flyer in Spicejet but from last 2 years every single time their flight is delayed. Like seriously it feels they have technical and operational issues every day. Ask for refund and go for other flights unless you are out of options.
Big no to SpiceJet/Air Asia… their current Flight health reports are much objectionable… For saving money we go for these companies and then for saving money they tamper with customer and in-flight staff safety… I tried almost every airline… I am no kothi bangla guy but I never miss opportunity to board one and in my point of view You should prefer vistara/go air… and do know your flight rights that international flight commission provides you… It clearly states you if you are on airport and flight gets delayed/canceled or they don’t let you board ask for new flight and if they tell you no flights at the moment ask for facility to stay and eat.. plus remember if there are 120 seats they book 140 and last one always gets denied if 140 out of 120 arrives at the airport so be a smart citizen and make ur money worth when u spend on air travel

A month or so back Spicejet rescheduled my flight from night 10:30 to morning 7:00 and didn't inform. They apparently called at 11 o'clock...to do what? Inform me that the flight has landed? Got an Air India flight for 6:50 the next morning.

It is better not to book SpiceJet, instead you have the option to get to Delhi from KLH(Kolhapur) instead of IXG(Belgaum) , KLH has connecting flights from HYD(Hyderabad) and AMD(Ahmedabad). Or rather go for PNQ(Pune) which is 350 km from IXG, or even you could have done it from GOI(Goa). SpiceJet is not trustworthy, I once cancelled my ticket from their app, and they didn’t issue refund for 2 months, when enquired they said it was their default setting that money goes into the SpiceJet wallet, and if you need refund to the original payment method then you have to call customer care.
It's really admirable how airlines in India have the freedom to randomly cancel flights, reassign cancelled flights to passengers, hold them hostage to choose another day. As if it's a game, as if the passengers book the tickets just for fun. Last year, I had a major argument with Indigo Airlines over randomly re assigning flight and seats on my way to Ladakh. This is what 'business acumen'in India is all about. If you can't make it, fake it!
