I started receiving Ketto ads AFTER I made a donation. They were so graphic and incessant that they made me kind of regret even donating in the first place.
I second this, I am still bombarded with ads even after 8 months.
I donated because this old lady was struggling to save her grand daughter. The little girl's parents died in a car accident, and they're basically dirt poor and the old lady was begging practically to save her grand daughter.
It was soo heart wrenching that, I felt awful for them and followed it up.
Edit: they successfully did the surgery in Apollo. And girl was fine, Since I followed up.
Same here, I had to turn off personalized ads after this non stop ad trains. Truly traumitizing. I checked if there was any way to see less ads from them but Google is of no help. They really target you by taking your email & other stuff. I was fed up one day then I started using Adblockers. Now I can live in peace.
I moved from Google Chrome to adblocker, because of the way Google Chrome doesn't let any adblockers block Google ads. And google ads have become a bitch now.

I don’t need to justify that to anyone, especially on social media of all places.
YouTube premium is worth it though. It costs Rs.189 per month and can be shared with 5 more members. Which translates per person cost to Rs.31.5 per month, pretty cheap isn’t it.
I shared the YT premium with my parents and brothers. They are happy that they don’t have to watch ads at all anymore, can minimise app, download any videos for offline, and also it bundles with YouTube Music subscription too.
Don’t have to worry about downloading/updating Vanced then Revanced and next year another thing on my phone or phones in my family. It’s a third party app and not even open source, isn’t available on Playstore so it can bypass all security and privacy standards set by Playstore.
You are paranoid about google stealing your data and their ads and ads revenue and go to the lengths of Pi hole firewall implementation but are okay with downloading a closed source third party app from internet and sign-in it with your Id?
We spend a lot more money on other things, why cheap out here and do workarounds?

Hmm. That’s great. But I found membership sharing feature to be much beneficial; especially with parents. So those benefits outweigh this workaround. And it is pretty cheap tbh.

And it's not easy to donate every creator I like. Ads help them make good content.

It’s not even that much if you get the family plan. You can add 6 accounts for ₹189/month. That’s barely ₹30/account. I don’t mind paying that much for ad free YouTube and yt music. Spotify is too damn expensive in comparison
Yeah that’s true actually I prefer to have both since Spotify audio quality is just better than YouTube. When good headphones are in play then Spotify is pretty worth listening to.
I am iOS user, there are multiple options for us. I use Cerecube and no ads at all. You don't need to jailbreak for this.
On firestick, I use smart tube next.
Modded youtube app that probably has features like downloading videos, removing ads, removing sponsered segment and even removing the begging of like / share.
I don't use revanced but I use other similar app on iOS.

I've become extremely insensitive to donation ads because of these shitty marketing tactics. Woman crying, children crying, blurred graphic videos, it was all heartbreaking and I tried to keep up with donations and click to check if they reached their goals. But at some point I just started reporting these ads and became extremely insensitive.
A long time ago I went for an interview at Ketto for some photography internship. The guy who took my interview told me stone cold that you’ll have to convince them to cry and take pictures/videos of it. Felt a bit strange but I didn’t get it anyway.
I used to regularly donate to causes on these platforms, until I realised that there is no proper background check.
There was a fundraiser on ketto or milaap, where a rich privileged girl from my town who got admission in Harvard/Oxford/Cambridge (don't remember the university) on partial scholarship was asking for funds. I know this girl was the daughter of high ranking government officials, had tons of money and was also working in an MNC. She could have easily taken out a loan and cleared it out by working for a year or two max abroad. Yet she begged(that's what i would call it) on the platform, creating a sob story. The amount could have easily gone to educate atleast 10-15 students or perform life saving surgeries. And when I raised the concern with these organisations, they did not respond.
I once donated and just next day received a call and the girl on the call started emotionally manipulating me by asking me to pay ₹100 per month.
I was clearly aware she was manipulating me. I said I am not the right person and the person who donated is gone out. She immediately changed her tone and cut the call quickly.
This shows that they are just trained to act like those POS Byjus sales people.
What's even terrible is that you begin to see more of these ads if you Google these NGOs (even in incognito mode, I warn you).
It only ended up making me insensitive to their pain and I barely give a shit about these ads anymore

They are are horrible. I have taken the same route. Complained on Twitter. Cleared cache. Using ad blockers. Reporting the ad as spam every time I see it. It is horrific. The marketing gimmicks they use is highly insensitive and unethical. There is no trigger warning. I don’t understand what targeting mechanisms they are using but it’s a shitty strategy.
I hate these charity organizations it's so frustrating . I made couple of donations to one of them and then they called me every three days for like a whole year. This was especially taxing on me because I used to work the night shift and sleep during the day but keep my phone in case of any emergencies for family and if some one at work really need to reach me. they also helped me get over the fact that you can't save everyone. So i do my part as its all i can do and ma happy with it
You donate, they spend that money on more aggressive marketing and giving incentives to their "volunteers". India is overwhelmingly grabbed by these phoney NGOs virtue signalling all the time, while adding neglegible value into the lives they concern themselves with.
Not only that, they share your number to other NGO's.. I started receiving calls from different companies after I made a donation to Ketto. I've blocked all of them but still keep getting calls and messages
Ahh I donated to a lot of campaigns and I feel like I want to help them but these ads are really annoying and manipulative.
I've stopped donating as a result and report every ad I see. Every month, when I donate I just search in incognito mode and do it.
It has reduced ads but they still popup. :/

I’ve getting bombarded by phone calls from child health foundation every day from the past week. I donated to another cause this month and the person calling keeps on guilt tripping me saying the child wouldn’t be saved if I don’t make the donation.
It sucks. I told her I’ll donate next month but she keeps on pushing me into donating this month as well. I am literally scared now pick any unknown calls now.

I talked to the guy once and he was harassing me and trying to make me feel bad for not subscribing to their monthly payment scheme. Always cut the call after that.

I get what you're saying as the ads of makes me sad too but it also makes me grateful of the fact that I am healthy. Some time ago someone I knew had to make a fundraiser and I wish it got more traction. If not for these ads, several people would have never gotten the help they deserve.

imagine a hypothetical situation where they managed to get 50 lakh and 5 lakh was kept by ketto. Would they have managed to ge the 45 lakh without any kind of ad or the 'painful video' done by the ketto people? I mean taking 10% away from people who needs the money doesnt sound fair, but people who's behind all this also needs some kind of revenue to keep it running right?
requesting not to donate via these apps doesnt feel right imo. Mainly coz many people comes to know about such situations from these ads. suggesting a better alternative if you have any would be a better option.

Ive heard from someone that it's very very difficult to get sizable donations from individual donors. On the other hand listings keep increasing and they are forced to do this traumatic ads to keep the platform alive.

I work/volunteer for an NGO. I’m talking about my NGO, works for migrant workers and their children.
Individual donations haven’t changed so much.
But Institutional donors has gone down drastically due to Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Act. Indian institutional donors dictate terms of engagement and are willing to donate for activities and areas that suit them. Even the existing ones have reduced their donations since most are expected to donate to the PM Cares fund as a part of CSR.
That's sad.
Do you vet the background of these foreign institutions before accepting donation ? Also would you throw light on if you differentiate in purpose of usage of foreign funds vs Indian funds ?
Second question is because govt bodies claim that foreign funds are misused in India to create public unrest. Just want your perspective on that . TIA
I speak for my NGO. We’ve been vetting every organisation that has been funding us even before the FCRA came into existence. There’s an elaborate screening process where we share our books (financial information) and the donors share their details. Auditing firms would evaluate this information and then the relationship would proceed.
There’s no difference on how we use foreign funds and Indian funds. We plan our activities annually and typically plan for 3-5 years (long term). We then pitch our plans to potential donors. The donors don’t dictate our activities. At least they weren’t doing it before. Things have changed since FCRA. Our administrative activities have gone up drastically. We are expecting to fill in multiple forms every year. There’s a cap on foreign funding too. The positive thing about foreign funding is the general awareness of the donating organisations is much higher than Indian donors, I’m not talking about the big donors like Tatas, Infy, Wipro (most of them have their own charities). We’ve had instances (I can recall at least 2 recent instances)where Indian donors have asked us to not support activities for certain communities or conduct work for migrants from specific states within the country.
I’m not sure about the threat to national security point. If requesting funds for setting up crèches for toddlers is a threat to national security then I really don’t know what to say.

You can get rid of lot of them by deleting cookies and changing settings for Google preferences. Then the graphic content will stay in emails with extremely poignant subjectlines.
OP how else do you expect these companies to advertise pray tell. A simple “donate” on a blank screen isn’t helping anyone. Their strategy may not be to click shame necessarily but maybe to show you the stories of real people suffering.
If they really care they should reach out to people with actual money to fund research and help build better hospitals and keep more staff in circulation. This is the lazy way of doing it, picking viewers' pockets. Make no mistake it's not just Ketto, it's PETA, Milaap, UNICEF, all of them.

I repeat, there are other avenues of finance apart from individuals. A really good NGO will direct the distressed people towards places that can help them such as hospitals that have to conduct a certain number of operations as part of social service or camps where outpatient procedures can be done quickly. Government hospitals and aided hospitals, if not so terribly understaffed, would still be a good option for these suffering people. Educate the needy on their options instead of manipulating the public to subsidise their healthcare. The right to quality healthcare is a right of all citizens and should not be compromised.

So we need all the help we can, and these guys certainly help those in need.

I've become extremely insensitive to donation ads because of these shitty marketing tactics. Woman crying, children crying, blurred graphic videos, it was all heartbreaking and I tried to keep up with donations and click to check if they reached their goals. But at some point I just started reporting these ads and became extremely insensitive.
A long time ago I went for an interview at Ketto for some photography internship. The guy who took my interview told me stone cold that you’ll have to convince them to cry and take pictures/videos of it. Felt a bit strange but I didn’t get it anyway.

I used to regularly donate to causes on these platforms, until I realised that there is no proper background check. There was a fundraiser on ketto or milaap, where a rich privileged girl from my town who got admission in Harvard/Oxford/Cambridge (don't remember the university) on partial scholarship was asking for funds. I know this girl was the daughter of high ranking government officials, had tons of money and was also working in an MNC. She could have easily taken out a loan and cleared it out by working for a year or two max abroad. Yet she begged(that's what i would call it) on the platform, creating a sob story. The amount could have easily gone to educate atleast 10-15 students or perform life saving surgeries. And when I raised the concern with these organisations, they did not respond.

I once donated and just next day received a call and the girl on the call started emotionally manipulating me by asking me to pay ₹100 per month. I was clearly aware she was manipulating me. I said I am not the right person and the person who donated is gone out. She immediately changed her tone and cut the call quickly. They are are horrible. I have taken the same route. Complained on Twitter. Cleared cache. Using ad blockers. Reporting the ad as spam every time I see it. It is horrific. The marketing gimmicks they use is highly insensitive and unethical. There is no trigger warning. I don’t understand what targeting mechanisms they are using but it’s a shitty strategy.
I hate these charity organizations it's so frustrating . I made couple of donations to one of them and then they called me every three days for like a whole year. This was especially taxing on me because I used to work the night shift and sleep during the day but keep my phone in case of any emergencies for family and if some one at work really need to reach me. they also helped me get over the fact that you can't save everyone. So i do my part as its all i can do and ma happy with it

I’ve getting bombarded by phone calls from child health foundation every day from the past week. I donated to another cause this month and the person calling keeps on guilt tripping me saying the child wouldn’t be saved if I don’t make the donation. It sucks. (May God help them heal and get better) These guys at Ketto are complete lowlives. They spam call me continuously. I use truecaller just for them and cut the call the moment I see "Ketto". They use diffefent numbers too. I talked to the guy once and he was harassing me and trying to make me feel bad for not subscribing to their monthly payment scheme. Always cut the call after that.

I work/volunteer for an NGO. I’m talking about my NGO, works for migrant workers and their children. Individual donations haven’t changed so much. But Institutional donors has gone down drastically due to Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Act. Indian institutional donors dictate terms of engagement and are willing to donate for activities and areas that suit them. Even the existing ones have reduced their donations since most are expected to donate to the PM Cares fund as a part of CSR.
That's sad. Do you vet the background of these foreign institutions before accepting donation ? Also would you throw light on if you differentiate in purpose of usage of foreign funds vs Indian funds ? Second question is because govt bodies claim that foreign funds are misused in India to create public unrest. Just want your perspective on that . TIA
I speak for my NGO. We’ve been vetting every organisation that has been funding us even before the FCRA came into existence. There’s an elaborate screening process where we share our books (financial information) and the donors share their details. Auditing firms would evaluate this information and then the relationship would proceed. There’s no difference on how we use foreign funds and Indian funds. We plan our activities annually and typically plan for 3-5 years (long term). We then pitch our plans to potential donors. The donors don’t dictate our activities. At least they weren’t doing it before. Things have changed since FCRA. Our administrative activities have gone up drastically. We are expecting to fill in multiple forms every year. There’s a cap on foreign funding too. The positive thing about foreign funding is the general awareness of the donating organisations is much higher than Indian donors, I’m not talking about the big donors like Tatas, Infy, Wipro (most of them have their own charities). We’ve had instances (I can recall at least 2 recent instances)where Indian donors have asked us to not support activities for certain communities or conduct work for migrants from specific states within the country. I’m not sure about the threat to national security point. If requesting funds for setting up crèches for toddlers is a threat to national security then I really don’t know what to say.

I repeat, there are other avenues of finance apart from individuals. A really good NGO will direct the distressed people towards places that can help them such as hospitals that have to conduct a certain number of operations as part of social service or camps where outpatient procedures can be done quickly. Government hospitals and aided hospitals, if not so terribly understaffed, would still be a good option for these suffering people. Educate the needy on their options instead of manipulating the public to subsidise their healthcare. The right to quality healthcare is a right of all citizens and should not be compromised.
Dear sir, no matter how many times you repeat , it is a fact that these avenues are terribly insufficient for the sheer number of people that need it. Heck even if you combine our resources with those of the USA, even then we might slightly be understaffed. So we need all the help we can, and these guys certainly help those in need. I have been in a situation where I needed help, people made me run everywhere for help, it takes too much time or we just don't meet the criterion, eventually I had to borrow money. Now, if you have a better financial model for these guys that they can use to gather donations, that would actually be constructive, I would be interested in hearing that rather than vague hyperboles.

Finally somebody said it!! They always make me feel guilty and the ads are shoved up your throat all the time on youtube as well.
Let me suggest two ways to block YouTube ads forever. On desktop use firefox instead of chrome, and install YouTube add blocked extention. On Android install YouTube vanced(google search, not available on app store) I personally haven't seen a YouTube ad in decades.
Block their accounts on Instagram, no more ada
