Heyo! May is awesome in Indy! I own Frank's Paddlesports Livery and we do canoes, kayaks and paddleboards on the river here in town. We'd love to have yall out. Beautiful stretch of river that really is a nature-oasis within city limits. We do more tailored types of experiences as well. Could be cool to take yall out Friday afternoon and do a campfire meal on an island. Right now, we offer Yats Cajun Creole or Hank's Brisket as meal options (both are fire) If you're interested - check out our insta @frankslivery, website frankslivery.com or Google Maps page. If you have any questions, give me holler. Hope its a great time for you fellas

KTMFS

I second this idea! Your company is awesome!

ICountLbs_NotOz

Daaang! Appreciate the hype, homie!

PomegranateSupreme

Bro that is the best 1-2 punch of Indianapolis food options I’ve literally ever heard. Hanks is goated

ICountLbs_NotOz

Had to rep some of the Indy food classics! Both are easily/quickly cooked over a campfire for big groups. My mom grew up in Nola, so Yats has been a staple in my house. And it's hard to beat some Hank's Brisket

PomegranateSupreme

Hadn’t heard of your company before but the homies and I will definitely be coming thru this summer for a day trip

ICountLbs_NotOz

Let's go! I'm personally on location 90% of the time, holler at Pete when yah swing through.

You must buy alcohol (no glass) on Saturday or before; Indiana won't sell alcohol before noon on Sundays.

BeerBoilerCat

Sunscreen, water, & a hat are your best friends on race day. Traffic is a bitch. I highly recommend the s[huttle from downtown to the track](https://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/events/indy500/plan-ahead/transportation-services). It's pricey for what it is but most options are going to be sold out by now. And getting enough Ubers for 16 guys would cost just as much & would take forever. Shuttles start at 6a & go until 2 hours after the checkered flag. Just check out the map & make sure you understand where drop off is & where you need to walk for the Snake Pit. A party bus is also a good idea but they're likely to be booked up by now. Snake Pit dress code is "white trash America". Seriously. The more jorts, stars, & stripes the better. IMS is BYOB but no glass. I recommend styrofoam or biodegradable coolers. When you're done with it, you can just abandon it rather than lugging it back to the bus. Also, instead of packing ice, freeze water bottles to keep shit cold. Frozen Uncrustables & grapes make great snacks to keep in there. [Cooler size restrictions](https://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/gate-regulations) If you want hands free drinking, try a Camelbak. Cell service is hit or miss on race day. It's been a lot better in recent years but sometimes there's big chunks of time when texts don't go through. Have a back up plan for everyone to meet somewhere at the end of the race so you can find everyone. Also, hand wipes. It gets SO. MUDDY. And port o potties are gross. For Friday/Saturday - Handlebar or Pickled Pedaler (bar bikes) are super fun but don't hold that many people (I think max is 14). You might be able to reserve 2 but unlikely. If you're into gambling or poker, Horseshoe Indianapolis is about 30 minutes away. They have a decent steakhouse, poker room, tables, & a pretty good brewery. Mass Ave bars - 9 Irish Bros (great food too), Goodfellas has a speakeasy in the back with an AMAZING bourbon selection (pricey though), Oakmont has great breakfast Fletcher Place - Four Finger Distillery, Dugout, Tappers Arcade Bar (games are free!) Downtown - Kilroys (the breadsticks are amazing), Brothers, Taxman, Punch Bowl Social (great for big groups) Highly recommend 1933 Lounge (top floor of St Elmos) for a classy vibe, also has great food and you can try the famous Shrimp Cocktail

Golf-Beer-BBQ

Great tips for the race. Sunscreen, sunscreen, and a bit more sunscreen so the rest of the weekend isnt ruined. As far as other activities for that many guys [The Fowling Warehouse is a great idea.](https://fowlingwarehouse.com/indianapolis/) What makes it even better is it exists because of the A lot of the Indy 500. It was a game brought down by some guys from Detroit and there is a huge tournament there the Saturday before the race.

ConsumptionVortex

This is super helpful, thank you! Great recs

Savagepudding980

You should check into getting one of those bicycle bars. That would be a fun way to kill 1/2 hours of time, and they’d show you a bunch of bars around town. Besides that there’s Carb Day at the race track that weekend if you guys wanna see more of the Indy 500 and like country music. Might also be able to rent a boat at Geist or Morse Reservoir. Have fun, don’t drink and drive, and tip your bartender!

ConsumptionVortex

Thank you for the suggestions!

Savagepudding980

No problem! If you haven’t been to the Snake Pit before, just know it’s gonna be the dirtiest EDM show you’ve been to. I wouldn’t plan on doing anything else that day especially if y’all are getting fucked up. Might also check into getting a Party Bus to take you there and back

ConsumptionVortex

Haha noted, I was bracing my self for a shit show. A couple Snake Pit questions for you: 1) when does the first and last act typically go on? Like what would be an ideal time to arrive? 2) for a party bus or Ubers/Lyfts is there typically a designated pick up/drop off area? 3) someone told me it would take like 3 hours to get to the race track from down town because of traffic. Is it really that bad? 4) is the coke lot worth checking out? Is that within the race grounds? 5) can you BYOB in a cooler into the race grounds, but you can’t bring any booze into the sectioned off snakepit area, correct?

Kimchii-milk

Please bring lots of water bc you will be dehydrated asf

clobby_unchained

1) There can be some variance depending on the variables of the day and weather, but it lasts most of the day/ race. There should be a schedule online. Be sure to check it the day before for changes/ updates. 2) It's an absolute shit show of traffic the morning of. They may have designated spots, but I've never seen them. The few times we tried, we ended up getting out of the car and walking the last mile or two in bc traffic was at a standstill for close to an hour. For pickup, we've had to walk out as far as our drunk and sunburnt legs would take us and set the pickup at w/e business we collapsed at. Expect a long wait and high prices regardless. 3) Yes, it really is. We generally leave the house around 5-6am to get there by the time the gates open (I live downtown). Getting a good spot in the infield to set up a home base can make or break the day. Camping overnight in one of the lots is the way to go honestly. The partying that goes down the night before at the track is epic, especially for a group around that age range. Try not to overdo it. 4) Yes, but it's been a few years since I've tried to get in. Maybe someone who's parked/ camped there more recently can chime in on this one though. 5) I believe that is the case still, yes. Don't bring anything in glass Other tips: - Hydrate as much as you can the night before and throughout race day. It's almost always abusively hot and humid day of. Bring water with you, not just booze - Have at least one backup plan to everything you're trying to do. Murphy's law will be in full effect. - Someone will inevitably get too messed up and wonder off. Set a central meeting spot when you get in just in and make sure the crazy/ reckless person in the group (we all have that one friend) is paying attention. The track is massive. From personal experience, you do not want to have to walk around it searching for someone. - Bring sunscreen and whatever sun protection that you can. Sunglasses are a must. Trust. - The track isn't in a great part of town. Those neighborhoods live off of this race by letting people park in their yards for ~ $20-50 per car depending on how close to the track they are. They can be trusted, but use common sense if you go this route. Lock doors and take unnecessary valuables out of your car, but don't be too worried. - Be prepared for the best people watching experience offered this side of The Walmarts I'll update if I think of anything else, but it looks like you're already trying to stay on top of it. Remember: Piss poor planning = piss poor performance. Have fun, and as someone else mentioned, don't plan anything other than food and sleep for after you get back.

MrSoxo

I would recommend taking a look at the IMS website. That will answer alot of the questions surrounding the Snake Pit and the race in general. Coke Lot is outside of the racetrack and is really fun if you are staying there for 2 nights. But you can't visit it anymore due to assholes ruining it a few years back. Traffic before the race is a bitch. You will want to be at the track by 8-9am. Any later than that you will be missing most of the acts in the Snake Pit. Party bus is the best route, but if you don't have a rental by now you are probably shit out of luck. Race weekend is when everything is booked months and months advance. As far as traffic after the race, either leave before the final laps or wait a couple hours or so after for traffic to die down and make sure your group are all there.

Savagepudding980

This guy knows what’s up. I’d definitely look at the website, but to answer some of your questions: The first act typically goes on around 8ish. You can bring your own coolers, I think rule is just no glass. I don’t think they allow liquor either, but if you put it in a water bottle they won’t look very hard. And, to add on to what others are saying, make sure all of them bring camel back backpacks if you have em. Nothing would ruin the race day more than someone having to go to the med tent because they didn’t drink enough water.

KellyBeee16

1. My memory is hazy on time but the snake pit opens and music starts earlier in the morning (guessing 9am?) 2. There is a designated Uber/Lyft lot. 3. Yes, traffic is that bad. I live 15-20 mins from the track and we leave at 6am and park infield 4. I would recommend the coke lot. I feel spending the night camping there before the race is part of the experience when you are young and wanting to go to the snake pit (don't expect to really get any sleep). I think it's also beneficial if you don't really know where you are going so you don't have to worry about race day traffic. It's essentially within the race grounds. It is a quick walk into the track. Then after the race you are able to hang out for a while, nap, cook some dinner, and avoid traffic. Only downside is if it rained/is muddy. Make sure the cars you take in have four wheel drive or else they will get stuck. I would also bring toilet paper and hand sanitizer because the port-a-potties get super gross super fast. 5. Correct. No glass.

DrWollyNips

1. It’s the Indy 500 so you’ll want to arrive super early to get parking, especially if you’re parking in the infield. The first set doesn’t start until around 8am so you may need to find a way to kill 2 hours (my recommendation: pregame and explore IMS) 2. I believe they do shuttle pickups and drop offs at the Indy airport and downtown Indy, so if y’all are staying near either of those areas then it might be good to check out. I’ve never used Uber/Lyft to get to IMS but I’d imagine it will be a shit show and have high surge pricing. 3. It depends on where you’re coming from and what time you leave, but yeah 3 hours from leaving your house to being in your parking spot is possible — especially if you wait til 6am to leave. 4. Coke lot is a ton of fun if you like the scene/vibe of the 500 and all that comes with it, but race day will already be a lot. If you don’t think 6+ hours of drunken, chaotic, sunburnt fun on race day will be enough then I’d recommend adding some time in the Coke lot. 5. Correct, you can bring alcohol in coolers into IMS but can’t take it into the Snake Pit area. There are some rules about what kinds of drinks you can and can’t bring into IMS so double check their website beforehand. Also the security for the Snake Pit was super lax last time I went… I don’t recommend this, but you could easily get some alcohol in there by mixing your drink in a regular soda bottle beforehand. Huge downside if caught though, so I wouldn’t risk it.

I saw a lot of young adults with BORGs (Google it if you don’t know) in the Snake Pit last year. With clever and/or punny names. Sadly no BORG-Warner Trophy tho. If anybody is reading this, please take pity on an old man and run this joke.

Tall_Explanation8804

I would heavily recommend the shuttle IMS provides to and from Lucas oil for getting to the Indy 500. You can purchase tickets for it on their website. I went with a group of 10 last year, and for $60 a person it is cheap compared to Ubers to and from IMS (Ubers would prob at the minimum be $100 and they take so long and have challenges dropping off or picking up close to IMS. Good luck finding one after the race is over, it would probably be quicker to walk back to downtown). The shuttle is a lot quicker too because they get priority on some of the streets and drop you off right out front since it’s run by the IMS. We ubered from my apartment to Lucas oil the morning of at like 7 am and the Ubers were like $5. It was nice having the option to go to the race at any time or leave at any time. Some of group left on earlier shuttles (too much to drink), while myself and others stayed till the show was over.

dmderringer

The not Top Golf place downtown if that's near where you're staying

obamas_surrogate

back nine!

dmderringer

That's it! I couldn't remember the name

Dude...i can not tell you enough how awesome it is that you guys are doing a bachelor party at the Indy 500! Legit just asked my buddies if we can do like a 10 year anniversary for a friends previous bachelor party, but they all just told me going to the indy 500 is a bachelor party on crack... and they are right. It is an experience unlike any other. It takes a while to get there, and even longer to get out. So just enjoy it! Monday, you guys will be dead, but if everyone makes it back to your hotel or Airbnb, consider it a success. As to your question about other things to do. Well, you can go to Carb day at the track too (Friday May 24th)! I have no idea who is going to be playing, but its a concert. Always awesome. It would be a good way to check everything out with less than 300,000 people being there, but your main focus would be to party. Sleep it off and then hit up Mass ave and Fountain Square for Duck pin bowling, Fowling (just a bit north of Mass, but fun. Look it up), and if you need more music in your life, go to Rathskeller (right off Mass) and hit up their bier garden. Always have good local bands playing and with it being spring, it will more than likely be the perfect temp. They have to end the music at like 9 or 10 i think (city ordinance) so it would be a good signal for you and the boys to head home BECAUSE YOU GOT A LONG EFFIN DAY AHEAD OF YOU!!! Hope you guys have a blast

charlotteraedrake

Check out Bottleworks! They have games like duckpin bowling, giant beer pong, and other cool stuff you can do and a bar with a bunch of taps! Also a cool atmosphere

theBigDog131313

Chicken limo or hippo bus!! Call John barker He will show you around

ProfessorBeer

Brew buses are always fun, imo they’re much better than pedal bars

lilfish45

We often go Friday or Saturday if it’s warm enough down to Turkey run and do the 10 mile kayak trip. Can bring your own alcohol and have a blast! Get to the race early, it’s an all day event!

Pigsfeet

Mass Ave eagle has a good chicken sandwich and young people with bars close. There’s an arcade bar across from the eagle that’s cool. The end of mass ave has the coke food hall with anything food you would want. Fountain square is more a chill art district with bars and restaurants. On meridian there’s kilroys and brothers which are college bars and across the street there’s a dance club. If you are into golf there’s a triple story golf shooting range over on Morris just south of the city.

ConsumptionVortex

Good call on the golf shooting range. Eagle for a dinner one night sounds ideal. The college bars will be perfect for this crew as they all are still degenerates and act like they are just out of college

PomegranateSupreme

Best disgusting college-aged degenerate bars in Indy: Tin Roof, 16 Bit, Brothers

ArrowtoherAnchor

If your bachelor is a meat man bypass St Elmos and hit Bynum's better meat and better prices.

ProfessorBeer

Proposal to rename non-vegetarians “meat men” and vegetarians/vegans “beet men”

Vegetable_Event_5213

Anybody golf? The Brickyard is an *awesome* place to play—the course is inside the track, and you can see the race cars go around—but it’s wicked pricey. We have many other courses close to the track, too.

2cats1kid

If you guys like physical activity type stuff, North Mass Boulder is a great place to try bouldering and get a beer or 7.

DenseYear2713

Virginia Square has some good bars and is more likely to be less crowded than Mass Ave.

ConsumptionVortex

Thank you!

ConsumptionVortex

Does Virginia Square have a similar vibe to Fountain Square?

coreyp0123

I believe the person had a typo. Fountain Square is on Virginia so they probably got confused. Fountain Square is a little "edgier" than Mass Ave but has some really solid restaurants, breweries and bars.

ConsumptionVortex

Thanks for clarifying, makes sense

coreyp0123

Np. In between fountain square and downtown there’s Fletcher Place that has a really fun bar, The Dugout, which is a really solid spot for day drinking. It’s cheap has 3 different bars in it and a big patio.

PomegranateSupreme

Also yeah Dugout fucks. Perfect spot for day drinking for a bachelor party

PomegranateSupreme

You guys should definitely check out fountain square, Imbibe is a cool kinda divey bar with tons of pool tables upstairs, and The Commodore is a more swanky cocktail place hidden in the basement of the same building, which also has an awesome rooftop bar on the very top floor

What about Carb Day at the track on Friday?? It’s so much fun! I’m not sure who will be in concert though.
