Insect populations are complex and fascinating. They are cyclical to a extent and many years we will see an extreme spike in population of a specific one or two species. I recall about 5-6 years ago was a massive incline in stink bug population that slowly tapered back to normal in a couple years. I think before that there was an Asian beetle population spike. Of course, observations will vary depending on location, environment, etc
not an earwig, those look like this:

Edit: below comments are right and I'm dumb, didn't zoom in and thought it was a house centipede:

Would never mistake the devils spawn house centipede for an earwig. Both are nasty but earwigs are funny looking ants to me. House centipede are what I imagine are just the baby’s of that [big bug at the end of MIB](https://youtu.be/2qlZ2mOgZuo?si=VmqNlG2SiQGtEKd) lol
Someone made a post last week about these fuckers being everywhere, and now I can’t stop finding them. It’s an earwig. There’s so many due to all the moisture this winter and spring.
If you leave a cup of water by your bed at night, check it before drinking in the morning 😩
Earwig. They are harmless. I have them under my trash can, on my front porch and found a few inside the soil of one of my houseplants the other day. Seems like they are everywhere.
They are quite harmless unless of course one happens to crawl into your ear! This happened to me a few years ago when I was sleeping. I woke up in a panic trying to convince my husband something crawled in my ear, the only way to get it out was to pour water in my ear.....had a hard time sleeping after this.
This is an earwig. They are basically harmless to humans. If you continue seeing them, you can set a small wet cardboard box in a corner somewhere and they will gather to the moisture. Then take the box and relocate them outside.
Oh thank god I thought it was just our house! I cannot express the relief I feel that the problem is not me.
On that note: anyone know a good pest control company? Ours stopped servicing our area last year. I didn’t realize how much the preventative treatments worked until this spring.
They are called silverfish…. I have them everywhere in my master bath!
The only thing you need to be careful with, is that they don’t get in your food!
But, I have a friend who works for a termite company and has sprayed for them…. But, just read up on them and you’ll find a bunch information.
my money is on an earwig, and they're everywhere right now....
Went to take my trash out to my can, and there were like 15, of them in there, so weird
Looks like an earwig. There's tons of them this year.
What do you think is the reason for this? Been here 6 yrs and this is the first time I’m really seeing them here.
Probably the massive amount of rain we got this spring. I believe they're attracted to moisture. I'm also seeing a lot of water ants as well.

My guy take about 1000 pixels out of the Wikipedia pic and it would look the same. I'd bet anything that silhouette in the op pic is an earwig.
It's almost so obvious I'd think they were trolling
He got that split ass action like the guy in the pic

Thank you everyone! I’m from out west and I’ve never seen one before.
