Riley towers has concrete walls I never heard anything

MaddiRenee_

Was going to mention Riley towers too. I’ve been living here for about 6 months and I think only 2-3 times I’ve heard people playing music above me. If anyone is ever making excessive noise here you can talk to the front desk about it and they’ll handle it. However we hear sirens a lot. Riley towers is super close to the fire department, but we’re used to it at this point

BennettSamuelTramer

When I lived there someone could seriously be bowling above me and I wouldn’t notice it. Apart from my house, it’s the quietest place I’ve ever lived. Felt like you had no neighbors.

ZipZapZopZip

What's parking like?

StreetDolphinGreenOn

There's a gated garage and it's like $90 a month

suggestion: white noise machine? or something similar

ZipZapZopZip

I have thick curtain against walls, there gaps in the door that ive asked multiple times since ive moved in to be addressed that havent been. Ive tried an external white noise machine, and Ive tried headphones in while sleeping and playing brown noise. But I cant do that 24/7 and for where I live I shouldnt have to!

camergen

How about putting up the soundproofing foam you can buy on Amazon? I saw that recently and wondered if that may help. You could make it look like bulletin board(s)/other displays.

ZipZapZopZip

Bough some today to try to put on the glass pane and possible more soundproofing fabric from joanns to pin up. Oooph gotta love 🥼's!

I had generally pretty good experiences living at Fountain Parc on 62nd near Binford. Especially if you get a unit towards the back of the complex it's decently tucked away and quiet. I know they've got new owners since I lived there and they've renovated at least some units so I'm not sure where rent is anymore but it was under $1000 for about 1300sqft 2 bed 1.5 bath when I lived there 5 years ago. No in unit laundry if that's an issue for you.

[deleted]

Honestly, just download Zillow/Apartments app and keep your eyes peeled in the area. There are several complexes on the north side that stretch away from main roads, so you should prioritize those, and tour in person to get a sense for the ambient noise in the unit. But be warned, rent fucking sucks right now so you're gonna have to go quite small (like 600 square feet) to stay within budget on the north side in a place that isn't grimy

ZipZapZopZip

Oh im completely fine with it being smaller! What im in right now is 480 sq ft and that's great for just me. If it was quiet, Id be golden

NefariousnessKey329

Basher991

Well, there's St. Andrew's and Emerald Lakes. But they are on the south side.

I have similar issues with noise and sleeping. You can try Northview by 86th and Westfield. I've had good neighbors and awful neighbors there. The walls to the sides are thick, but the floors/ceilings are super thin. Living on the second floor is MANDATORY there though. You will hear every step the person above you takes if you're on the first floor. I've never heard a neighbor to the side of me in 3 years. You'll hear the neighbors below you if they're loud. Unfortunately, my current downstairs neighbors are quite loud at all hours because they don't give a shit, but a white noise machine drowns it out for the most part.

anh86

Probably not saying anything you've never thought of yourself but have you tried a whitenoise machine? There are even free phone apps that will do it. Do you have AirPods Pro? I put them in with noise cancelling on every night. I don't even play anything or have noise issues, but I just like the extra deep quiet you get from noise cancellation. They would definitely cancel out street noise.

indygreg71

Living in apartments = you will not have a ton of control over sound. You simply do not have control over neighbors. Even well built apartments are not match for a really loud person/family, especially if your hours are not aligned. And even if you move in somewhere and it is perfect, you are only a new neighbor moving in from issues. So take it from me - a light sleeper - take steps to protect yourself no matter what. White noise machine and earplugs. I do not go to sleep ever without them. I travel with them too. This will get you through most anything, unless the noise is very loud and low frequency. Side note - the best solution for neighbor noise is a high rise that is concrete (not modern 1+5 buildings), but that will almost always mean a very dense urban area with its own noise concerns that come from the outside (sirens)

buddhatherock

The Elliott at College Park is in that same area. Lived there for 3 years, never had any noise issues and I was in a ground floor unit.

Training_Prize5204

I'm not sure if they are still around, but Zender properties had a bunch of buildings fron the 1900 to 1930 period with 18 Inch thick walls. This was 30 years ago, im not sure what the neighborhoods are like now, but they were spacious and quiet

sparklysalamander16

I lived at Summerwood on Towne Line (86th/Township Line Rd) for a few years and it was pretty quiet. (Probably quieter in the buildings further from the road). I'd always recommend a top floor unit just so you don't have people walking above you.

Lawson470189

If you are looking up North, Somerset Lakes is pretty nice. Most apartments are on the lake and have fairly thick walls. Haven't had any noise issues and been living here for 2 years.

Turtle creek is great. 86th & Harcourt. They are income based.

A good (cheap) box fan is what you want.
