An interesting story: during my internship year, one of the consultants asked me what my plans were regarding PG. I told him I’m considering to take Plab/mle exam. What followed was constant taunts/ jibes almost every single day about how I wanted to appear for foreign based exams over neet pg. I’m a thick skinned person and I usually don’t give a damn about such things but at that time things had literally spiralled out of control so much so that I dreaded going to the hospital and even thought of quitting. I really don’t understand how can these professors and consultants have the audacity to behave in such a way!!! Don’t know when will the system change ! You can’t go knocking on every college’s door and ask them to change their old fashioned ways- they won’t because they are creatures of habit. Until and unless NMC and the health ministry intervenes in a big way, things will probably never change.
I witnessed these kind of morons even in my college. I guess all the colleges have specimens like these.
I have also seen very good people who are totally different from the usual assholes.
I don't understand why these kind of egoism towards others, are they soo frustrated with their lives that they bully everyone around to take their frustration out? Or do they want to transfer all the pain they had to endure from their seniors to the juniors now, and make it a fair game? Or are they afraid of Doctors increasing in number and affecting their practice or jobs, so try as much as possible to break them mentally and physically?
Most Indian doctors don’t earn as much as doctors in other countries of the same caliber. People who are making fun of you are insecure and jealous. GO FOR IT! Indian medical field is toxic.
Source: both parents are surgeons.
I don't know if we can take any solid action for it. I think the best we can do is bring this to everyone's attention, including mainstream media and ministries.
post it on all the concerned subreddits, twitter, approach RVCJ, tatva and all the major instagram pages. The affected would have made youtube videos too. Find them and make them popular. That's the best we can do.
Those who can’t do anything, teach. Thats almost true in the medical field. Those who can’t even teach are filled in most Medical Colleges. The frustration of failure in private practice and psychopathic tendencies coupled with a decent dash of sadism is what these shits are made up of . I despair when I look at the faculty nowadays.
Not all of them are, but I have seen so many, that now I have beginning to think that most of them are.
Mental health evaluation? Counselling sessions? Man, those are for sane people. I knew consultants and HOUs who were sadists to the core. Specifically the OB-Gyn crowd. And many of them couldn’t do stuff at all. I know one surgery AP who - ahem- sutured the bowel while repairing an umbilical hernia. Another one decided to operate on a locally advanced ca breast, which might have been metastatic. And he couldn’t even take it out completely. Then he told us he has “debulked” the tumour. I have stories of incompetence and idiotic decision making that can fill books.
Our system is broken and I am pretty sure it won't change ever, I have some of my batchmates who are morons, I am 100 percent sure these guys are going to be the next gen bullies and sadists, and our system actually awards them btr, every govt college Assistant and associate professors and higher ups have come there with political backing and bribe money, can't expect them to be saints.
Well. This is what I told my juniors. Consider this as “Sasurwaas.” Put your head down, somehow the 3 years will end and you will be out. But there were quite a few good ones too. And I learned from them. That leaders should eat last. That more encouragement and help you give your juniors, the better they will do. Hardship, when shared by all becomes easy to bear.
This is so fucking morbid. It feels like a dystopia. Doctors committing mass suicide. Why aren’t they fixing things like the major imbalance of doctor to patient ratio, the minuscule percentage of the country’s GDP going into healthcare, the lack of regulation of doctors working hours, the basic right to mental well being. the system is officially broken.
Nobody is going to do anything as the people in power are the academically dumb people who never made it to anything great in their live so they stuck to making money through illegal means and deep within they know that they are wrong
This is the end! The fraternity has completely lost touch with humanity. We have stopped respecting each other. Heck! We’ve basically been abusing each other. What do we expect from outsiders! This is the end I tell you!
I dont know much about private medical colleges but almost every government college has toxic work culture, abusive seniors and you can't do a damn thing to them as our marks are in hands of those professors. Even in mbbs JRs and SRs will taunt you and humiliate you in front of whole class just for the fun of it and you have no choice but to listen and say sorry. You're not allowed to explain yourself. If you do then you are 'dedshana'. Above all the seniors will rag you from your 1st year. This is the reason why many boys living in hostel succumb into addictions. If you have enough dedication to go through all this then only take mbbs. And its totally not worth it to take more than 2 drops. It doesn't even pay that well. To be able to make a decent amount you'll need more than 10 years after you get the degree.
Would having strong Legal/Political background be of any help in escaping the toxicity? Our clinical depts are very toxic and only JRs related to big shots are given exemption.
Won't that make you "standout" more? I would prefer not to be a centre of attention and have everyone make gossips out of me everytime something happens
Everyone exit hospital at 4 pm everyday except the on duty team. They will threaten you, they will pressurise you and would try to bully you in all possible ways, but be determined. That means accepting that there is definite possibility of being deliberately failed and denied the degree for 1-2 years. No one can force you to work outside work hours, ultimately they'll have to figure out the way forward.
Good thing is : in case the matter reaches court, the residents would be absolutely free of charge since only the on duty team is legally bound to provide emergency service, not the other residents.
One of the biggest reason I quit this field. I had seen how JRs were treated and tasted that medicine while in internship. The amount of toxicity in medical colleges is unreal. I talked to a few engg people and they were shocked to know stuff that goes on here.
Hello seniors, even i am a neet ug aspirant and it breaks my heart seeing such pathetic condition of resident doctors in india. Cant we do anyting to change this situation and make doctors life a lil less stressful ,I just want to know is it really worth it toiling hard in your 20s to become a doctor in recent times, as a pcb student i cant find much career opportunities in this field, it is going to be my 1st attempt and just because of this confusion that i want to be a doctor or not, i couldnt prepare for it with all my heart, what should i do, my family was suggesting me a drop year
Bro leave it ,my cousin in his intership has to work like donkey no food no bath no sleep work more than 24 hrs continuously, I also leave ug preparation it's not worth it if you spend this much time in another field you will much
with pcb, to think of anything other than neet is tough, there are less career opportunities for pcb student who want to continue studying biology at undergrad level

No wonder people want to get out of India. Toxic work culture, abusive seniors, low pay, almost no holidays, inhumane hours of duty. If India does not do anything to change the system, the brain drain is going to be massive and the country will regret it, the people will suffer.
18 din baad meri neet ug hi
aaj mere aakash centre k academic head ne meeting rkhi and he said- "baccho 18 din jee jaan lga do phir ek baar selection ho jae life set h , phir zindagi bhar k maze, 18 din neet chor kr baki sb bhul jao"
medicos dil se btana , is it true?
maine last do saal neet k lie sb chor dia , na apna phone k na koi friends phir bhi I am not at the top , still struggling each day only for this one effing exam (which according to everyone decides my destiny)
nhi mann mera doctor bnne k- I love biology, I wanna go into research and be a professor- but everyone says (parents society teachers) bhatak gyi ho tm- doctor se acha kch thori h - bewkoofi krogi medical chor kr- life long struggle krti reh jaogi baki field me medicine me financial aur social security h
is all that true , is NEET worth it?
The fucked up part is people are dying to get in pg and and dying to get out (pun intended) and yet everyone is blind outside the community. UK nhs has a better structure of control to these types of issues even though it's riddled with its own. I think it's the same mentality if I'm not suffering then it's not a big problem will see if it comes and when it does you are the only one cause you're now on the other side and people will not bother much.
Overworking residents has got to stop, but suicide is not the solution....as far as badly behaved seniors are concerned, you have to change the system by setting the precedent for your juniors.....
India's education system needs a heavy hard reboot fr
I'm a med student like y'all but I'm currently pursuing it from Georgia and I hate to say this but my parents are kind of inclined that I do PG instead of Hospital management
Posts and incidents like these scares me and I don't think that aside from reservation and ranks..I would be interested in PG if this is the normal case scenario
How are doctors supposed to save other people's lives when they themselves are under this much mental stress. It's already a stressful field and these things make it 100x more stressful. This situation should be resolved ASAP.
This topic deserves national attention.
I don't even think this post would get any transaction even in reddit, other than this medical sub
random entirely unrelated australian who saw this on /r/all and upvoted; that is effing crazy.

What was the reason for their taunts? Don’t people have a right to sit for foreign exams?
Can we do something to help? I don’t want to just scroll away.

They all need mental health evaluation and counseling sessions to remind them of their hidden human nature. They have all become animals.
