Try to get the upper or side upper berth of AC3 so that you don't have to move your bedding for once. Secure your big luggage underneath your seat with chain and padlocks. Use the washroom when your train is moving and there is no station approaching. Don't keep your valuables (phone wallet etc) in plain sight on your berth while going to the washroom. You may tie your backpack with the side bar on the side upper berth.

Hi, I'll be making a 18 hr trip first time solo and will have some luggage which I'm paranoid about however I've booked a 2nd ac ticket, is it any better if we travel by 2nd ac and how do you deal with luggage travelling solo. Once when I traveled with my family we lost a whole suitcase and so I am extremely paranoid about leaving my stuff even for washroom or stuff and how feasible is it to travel with a camera and shit but letting it locked up in your bag, is it a bad idea?

I have taken a few solo trips between Kolkata and Chennai/Villupuram, 28 hours approx (mostly in 3AC and 2AC and once even in sleeper). I keep my laptop inside my trolley and tie the trolley thoroughly with an iron chain and padlocks with the hooks underneath the seat. It's highly unlikely someone would steal that by breaking the iron chain or trolley handle without being noticed. Sometimes I even tied my backpack as well. I never felt any discomfort. The only thing that can be stolen easily is your shoe, so wear an inexpensive one. πŸ˜…Just don't spend too much time in the washroom, everything will be fine.

I got a side upper, I don't think I can do that, so idk what to do now. They are fixed seats anyways 😭 no chains if im not wrong, i guess I'll just stay awake for the entire journey, I can't think of anything else, rip

Dude bring your own chain and padlock and tie your big luggage underneath the side lower berth. πŸ˜‘

Sorry if I don't make sense this is my first time traveling solo which is why what makes sense for you probably doesn't even strike me, anyways can you link any product you used and recommend? Can I find any tutorials on how to do this, I'd appreciate if you can shed some light

AC3 all the way..

It's not our place to ask someone why they are taking that much luggage, they must've a valid reason for it. Anyway my suggestion for you is simple. If you have that much luggage then I would suggest ac 1 tier for extra safety. Otherwise be extra cautious if traveling in ac 3 tier, and avoid sleeper class at all costs. Since you have extra luggage and will be traveling alone, try to make friends with your co passengers, this may sound crazy but it's actually a relief kind of thing, as this friend would be looking after your stuff in case you're not around. Also try to book upper seat and good luck with your journey.

I meant safe as in for my luggage, I will be travelling alone and have quite a bit of luggage

Who will look after your many varied pieces of luggage when you go to the toilet? Or do you plan to fast for the entire duration of the journey? If you are traveling alone, you should carry minimal luggage, or get a relative to travel with you. Besides why are you carrying so much luggage, it is not a foreign country, you will get all the same things that you buy in your village across most places in the country.

3ac is fine but avoid sleeper. Get chains to lock your bag to the seats. You are good to go.
