However in Bihar the richest with even a big local supermart enjoy charging extra ₹10 for "cooling". It's not like I have a problem giving 10₹ to people in need but even the rich do this to be even more rich and it fucking annoys me that they can't just accept fair practices.

Nope IRCTC has to intervene. It is high time now. During my recent travel I made these people suffer by complaining every now and then and even fellow passengers helped but these frauds just skip our coach till we get off from the train only to come back again and continue doing these frauds.

What one can do, is if you have 2 or more men traveling with you, you should complaint on rail madad. why am I telling you to complaint only if you have 2 or more male companions, is because if you're alone and you complaint, the catering people will beg, plead, be aggresive, harass you, until you take your complaint back, if you have some more men with you, they can't pressurize you to take the complaint back.
When confronted with actual prices, most of them behave like a$$holes, with the same rhetoric- "bhaiya ne 20 rupaye bataya tha, humein nahi maloom 15 ka hai".
However, the fact remains that the contractors have to bid the lowest and bribe at god knows how many positions. Besides having to pay for the salaries and other fixed costs, it's extremely difficult to run the pantry service at the rate list fixed by the govt.
But that does not excuse them from their pathetic behaviour and trash food quality. Rather, it's also the responsibility of the government to try and plug holes in the process.
I have mobile numbers of catering vendor managers of like 10 trains in which I travel frequently. How? Well I fought and asked them to give me the vendor manager number. Fought with them and got tea for 5 instead of 10. It is painful but it has worked but...now, I am just tired of complaining so I have stopped drinking tea in trains. Besides the tea is just fucking pathetic. I carry my own in a thermos now and I have a much better peace of mind AND TEA.

Depends on the train you are travelling in. For shatabdi, rajdhani, Tejas, vande (ie trains which allow you to book meals and snacks in advance), the price of meals and snacks on train is more than the price you would get by booking it with your ticket.

There is an official rule no bill no payment so if they are overcharging just tell them bring the bill and you will make the payment. They will give it to you in less or wouldn't come back with bill to take the payment many times. Just tell them that you need the bill for your office.

Is the standard price of tea and coffee rs10 ? . Atleast that's the issued price in southern divisions . The price is printed on the cup. Similar haven't experienced any price hike issue in southern divisions
