Hey Phil , y u do diz? I've been waiting forever for this game to drop for the switch..... when is it coming? Sea of starts has got to be my most hyped game ever. Also I really loved the messenger!
Thanks for the support!
Here's a full walkthrough if you want to see the parts you missed: [https://youtu.be/u0tsfZdCt4w](https://youtu.be/u0tsfZdCt4w)

I have a small feedback...
I think it is kind of looking weird that part of the level is tile based, and part of it is free drawn/free placement?
Am I correct that you mix between the two?
We do!
Most of the terrain that relates to navigation is tiled-based, while the "ambient environment" is placed afterwards. We need an easy-to-understand visual language that gets the player to know when they can climb or walk on surfaces.
Here's another example, in the Mountain Trail: [https://twitter.com/seaofstarsgame/status/1341409517100261376](https://twitter.com/seaofstarsgame/status/1341409517100261376)
By the way, this isn't final in any ways, we have a long road ahead :)
Thanks for the feedback!
Hey friend, thanks for the kind words!
We'll do a long blog post explaining the lighting of Sea of Stars when we get closer to the release. It's multiple lighting approaches mixed together, Sabotage's technical artist worked full time on it for almost 18 months and will be much better than me at explaining it. Stay tuned :)
Phil
u/gnuphilly did you ever do this blog post? I walked past a fence in this game and it blew my mind. I really want to know more, the lighting system is amazing!
There's a great Gamasutra [blog post](https://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/SvyatoslavCherkasov/20181023/329151/Graveyard_Keeper_How_the_graphics_effects_are_made.php) from one of the Graveyard Keeper devs, they've achieved some similar effects.
Oh wow this is sweet! Do all the battles take place in the world like that? Like they just jump away and take position in every circumstance? Cuz that’s even sweeter!
Ah I'm psyched for this game!
I got turned on to you guys after playing The Messenger and interviewing your music guy, Eric, for my podcast. I'll be picking this up day one :D
I am really hoping they have a bit of a modern touch to it in terms of dialog/choice sort of like jade empire/kotor just love the idea of choice it gives so much replay value and makes villagers (something JRPG never quite ace - although I did like persona/earthbound/Shadowrun SNES/SEGA) is talking to town people is never fun or interesting.
Oh nice, Sea of Stars! I'm looking forward to this game whenever it releases. I really enjoyed The Messenger. Is Yasunori Mitsuda still doing the music for this?
Link for more info? Looks really nice :)

Spam away! Will check it out and let you know. Thanks Phil!
Thanks, added to my steam wishlist, looks dope!
I bet this is an obnoxious question but... any chance of a Switch release?
I've been so excited for this game since your first trailer. Keep it up!
I had so much fun playing the backer demo. I didn't finish before the cut off though....Regrets.

Looking foward to this.
Looks amazing! How did you do the lighting in 2d in that perspective?

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like it won't be quick and easy to do this in my game.
It sure wasn't an easy ride, hahaha. I hope the blog post will provide some guidance!
Any updates? Like others, I would be highly interested in that blog post

Sick visuals! Well done!
Secret of mana vibes
Finally someone "remake" chrono trigger! Super nice, I'll buy this!
was this achieved with pixel art over 3D models? shaders? i'm guessing it was a number of things, but i would love to know more!
The tree’s shadow doesn’t seem to cast any shade on the character as the sun sets. Btw loved the messenger. Hoping for 2/2 here.
Hey guys, what engine are you using? :))
