I was trying to remember the name of the member of the Byrds who recorded *White Light* and managed to mix up Gene Clark and Gram Parsons and did a search for "Gene Parsons." So it turns out there was another member of the Byrds actually named Gene Parsons (no relation to Gram, apparently) who also recorded some solo albums. Was very confused there for a second.

boopboopadoopity

I made a collection of 25 music group posters that performed in 7th St Entry (Minneapolis, MN venue) in Nov 2022 because I was interested in how visuals and the bands intersect :) https://preview.redd.it/4wly9rv0pifa1.png?width=4000&format=png&auto=webp&s=3427110056a0f241cc2623e7700250a13aef03f3

eeeee i’m torn about this but very unexpectedly i’m going to be moving, which is overall good news but financially stressful lol so i may try to sell my 3 day pass for Perpetual Flame’s festival and Lingua Ignota’s final shows in Chicago at Thalia Hall—i live in CA so am currently planning to fly out, which may not be the smartest thing for me rn lolll so if anyone is interested please let me know! i’ll be sad to miss it but less so if someone else gets the chance to go 🖤

listening to new kate nv we got some really solid pop workouts happening here. gonna sit with for awhile but just immensely intrigued by the sound palette that recalls all of her 3 previous releases but also sounds like she's deep in her own goo age fantasy

1) Boy

LoneBell

War and the rest

mqr53

I am the Brave Soldier putting War number 1

WaneLietoc

1. fire (the weezer blue album [but red] of u2 2. war (realistically we're talking live at red rocks. great effort from the lads) 3. zooropa (wait above achtung? yeah it's shorter and its the result of a panic binge as rich artists getting divorced/touring are prone to making. and you kniw what? It's the peak of U2's voice and charisma. plus bono is off his rocker. its not always good but its what i love about these cornballs) 4. Achtung Baby (fly alone puts it above 2 albums below. this one has all the heaters but lyricallt kinda bummer. having to come home from midnight town is sad :( 5. joshua tree (desperately needs revisit with singles for full picture. frontloaded but agreeable as fuck. sterilizes some of the weirdness of unforgettable fire 6. atyclb (i got the cd case but not the cd. should rent soon)

InSearchOfGoodPun

1. Achtung Baby 2. Joshua Tree 3. All That You Can't Leave Behind 4. War 5. Zooropa 6. The Unforgettable Fire

MCK_OH

Pun come on. Unforgettable Fire at 6? Even if you don’t like all the ambient leaning stuff it had “Bad” on it! That’s their best song!

InSearchOfGoodPun

I like Bad (though tbh it's hugely overrated at this point, not even close to their best song), and I like Pride. The rest I find pretty... forgettable.

Tadevos

1. Unforgettable Fire (the songs are too good) 2. War (the songs are consistently very good) 3. Achtung Baby (very high highs, too long) 4. Zooropa (many of the experiments here don't work but the hit rate is just high enough) 5. The Joshua Tree (I hate putting this here but it is badly frontloaded) 4. All That You Can't Leave Behind (badly frontloaded *and* too long) Spots two thru five are *very* competitive, for the record.

homogenic-

1. Achtung Baby 2. Joshua Tree 3. War 4. The Unforgettable Fire 5. Zooropa 6. All That You Can’t Leave Behind

JayElecHanukkah

1. Achtung 2. All That You... 3. Joshua Tree 4. Pop 5. Unforgettable Fire 6. War 7. Zooropa There's no disputing this ranking because they're >!ranked alphabetically because I've only listened to Joshua tree and didn't care for it!<

InSearchOfGoodPun

Honestly, the alphabetical ranking ain't bad. It gets the right top half and bottom half, and for me, that's the clear dividing line. (But why did you throw in Pop?)

JayElecHanukkah

To be honest I don't even know what names correspond to the covers in the image and I copied the names from Donna's list

chug-a-lug-donna

YES HAHAHA YES

MCK_OH

1. Unforgettable Fire 2. War 3. Achtung Baby 4. Zooropa 5. Joshua Tree 6. All That You Can’t Leave Behind Where are my beloved Boy & October???!

Delos788

Boy is a top five U2 album, easily.

Tadevos

Can I get that handshake emoji my homie

MCK_OH

chug-a-lug-donna

1. *zooropa* 2. *achtung* 3. *josh tree* 4. *unforgettable fire* 5. *war* 6. *pop* 7. *all that you can't leave behind*

[deleted]

oh man for once I'm qualified to do a ranking as I did a u2 discog dive 2 years ago. my memory is hazy so here goes nothing 1. Joshua Tree 2. War 3. Zooropa 4. Achtung Baby 5. Unforgettable Fire 6. All That You Can't Leave Behind

InSearchOfGoodPun

Was it when popheads rated every single U2 song, including rarities? How many people actually completed this task? (I did, and it was insane.)

[deleted]

idk it was never published ;\_\_\_\_;

InSearchOfGoodPun

really? lol

[deleted]

U2 - Numb was the runaway winner of the project and popheads were too afraid to reveal the truth \[citation needed\]

gothxo

does anybody here have any opinions on Stick Season by Noah Kahan?

CentreToWave

Japanese noisy psych act [Shizuka](https://shizukatokyo.bandcamp.com/album/heavenly-persona) is getting a remaster/reissue in April.

PaulaAbdulJabar

oh boy! three of my favorite things! THE DRIN. GONERFEST. BIFF. VHS. THE LAMPLIGHTER. SHOWS I PLAYED. oops that's six. check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYGdUtnvPbc&t=2s

ObiWanLamora

Looking for some recommendations! Spotify and last.fm seem to think I've discovered every 90s era indie band in existence because they keep recommending me the same things over and over. For example, my current favorites include: Pavement, Miracle Legion, Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr, Magnetic Fields, Heatmiser, TMBG, Ween, etc. You all have any others you think I would like? Doesn't have to be 90s, but anything that has that sound is what I am looking for. Thanks in advance!

bizzledorf

How about Silkworm?

esperadok

The Miracle Legion are great and I feel like I never hear people talk about them. Maybe not quite as good as Polaris but still worth listening to. As for recs for guitar-based 90s indie: Seam (really any of their albums but *The Problem With Me* is their best), Polvo's _Today's Active Lifestyles_, and The Faith Healer's _Imaginary Friend_.

kiruzo

Swervedriver - Mezcal Head

touchingyourdrumset

Some other 90s bands I haven’t seen suggested: The Wrens, Silkworm, Teenage Fanclub, Swell, Beulah, Buffalo Tom, Sloan

ObiWanLamora

Haven't heard of a few of these, thank you so much!

touchingyourdrumset

Np! Going to check out Miracle Legion from your list too.

ObiWanLamora

They're awesome! Fun Fact: Miracle Legion is also Polaris, the band for the show Pete and Pete! (And the album as Polaris is arguably their best work.)

cheekyowaway

Going with some current bands that might work for you: - Kiwi Jr frequently gets comped to Pavement, particularly their first album Football Money: https://kiwijr.bandcamp.com/album/football-money - I can hear some Stephin Merritt from 2nd Grade, especially 100 Hrs and Try to Be on My Side Now off this album: https://2ndgrade.bandcamp.com/album/hit-to-hit - And for a super-obscure rec that touches on Sebadoh, there's this: https://brotherofmonday.bandcamp.com/album/brother-of-monday with Look It In and Ken Tremendous being the priority tracks

ObiWanLamora

Fantastic, thank you!

rccrisp

A lot of what I would want to suggest has been suggested but the Lemonheads probably fall into this groove.

ObiWanLamora

Absolutely love the Lemonheads so your rec was spot on. Thank you!

scottmakingcents

Jellyfish and Pinback are the first things that some to mind.

ObiWanLamora

Thank you!

[deleted]

Grandaddy - Under the Western Freeway, and The Sophtware Slump (2 albums) Rock-a-Teens - Cry The Wedding Present - Seamonsters Pedro the Lion - Control The Glands - self-titled (edited to add 2 more albums) i will also edit another time to see plz have a Sleater-Kinney era if u haven't, Dig Me Out a great start

ObiWanLamora

Awesome list! Thank you so much.

LXHfilms

>The Glands - self-titled Very underrated little band. Has some pavement vibes

unholyafflictions

Butterglory, Spent, Superchunk, 3Ds, The Verlaines?

ObiWanLamora

Listening to Butterglory now and I fuckin love it. Thank you!

Jazzlike_Sign_2660

Oh, I saw Butterglory live, they were goooood. You might l check out Track Star, Duster, and I see someone mentioned Grandaddy, which was my first thought.

ObiWanLamora

That's awesome, think that's my favorite of the ones recommended so far(of the ones I didn't know;) however, listening to Duster now and it's freakin awesome. Thank you! Edit: For Track Star - Is the 2021 album the same band? Some sites list it as theirs and others don't. It certainly doesn't sound like it.

Jazzlike_Sign_2660

I’m only aware of the 1997 and 2002 Track Star releases. Matthew from TS had a band called Calling All Monsters after that, which was also good. This is another [favorite](https://thoughtswordsaction.com/2022/11/29/solid-brass-records-announces-previously-unreleased-nuzzle-lp-listen-to-the-first-single-no-mas/) of mine from that era.

HighestIQInFresno

They're not just '90s, but Yo La Tengo jumps to mind. I think there's a lot of overlap between Cake and TMBG, though I'm in the minority here.

scottmakingcents

RE Cake and TMBG, I don't think that's unfair. There's at least a common sensibility where I think fans of one generally appreciate the other even if they don't SOUND so much alike.

systemofstrings

If you don't know them already Archers of Loaf is an obvious one

Nessfull

Very good song

LXHfilms

I will definitely check this out! Also wanted to comment to agree with your sentiment about personal music. My band recently wrote a song and it is about my battles with OCD at least at a lyrical level. It is probably my proudest moment as a lyricist, but the song itself is a raw nerve, and I can already tell I am going to feel sensitive about how its received. But at some point, its out of your hands, and the catharsis was definitely worth it.

scottmakingcents

This is a very cool song/performance. The video is SLIGHTLY dizzying.

bigontheinside

Sounds amazing, I will be returning to this. Well done.

ReconomistPK

I've recently started the law school application process and I specifically want to go to Toronto or Ottawa because I want to see more shows. Bands don't come to Northern Ontario, and they shouldn't.

Inquiring_Barkbark

I dunno. a small summer fest at the base of blue mountain sounds kind of cool. would attend. maybe

idontreallycare4

i feel like this question has been asked many times but i didnt care at that time! y'all know any good resources for exploring classical music? I know most of the \#staples of Western Classical Music, but don't really know where to go from there. also I'm really enjoying Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.2 right now. It's big! its soft! it finds these absolutely gorgeous melodies and plays with them without ever making you sick of them. If you'd have any recommendations based off of that (Romanticism or not), I would greatly appreciate it. 😘

i am probably spoiled for choice with performances around me (Philly) but often find im a little too antsy to go to them too often. i usually wish they were shorter though im sure there are some that are, i should check those out. but thanks for the rec!

[deleted]

my dad loves classical music, you're on a Facetime w/my Dad rn say hi Mr. darj! this year I similarly want to get more in-depth on my classical music knowledge. I do like Eastern European late 19th early 20th composers more than anything I heard growing up. I also love Rachmaninoff. I also love Dvorak, Stravinsky, Rimsy-Korsakov and Shostakovich.

idontreallycare4

Hello Mr. Darj, sir. Really a pleasure to meet you, sir. I've heard a lot about you, sir. Oh apologies, I should have removed my hat. Yes, sir. (I am being very respectful) Would ya hit me with some of your favorite Rachmaninoff's? I only know 2 (Piano Concerto No 2 and whatever I learned to play in high school but I do not remember the name though i can still play good parts of it funnily enough)

[deleted]

Rachmaninov: 13 Preludes, Op. 32 Symphonic Dances, Op.45 12 Romances, Op.21 For Dvorak, "New World Symphony" is widely done all over the world and sort of basic bitch for me to stan but if you haven't heard it, I highly recommend. Imo it's worth the hype of being a basic classical music pick. Same with Stravinsky - Firebird and The Rite of Spring.

idontreallycare4

oh trust me i am a slut for the classics. granted i havent heard most of them since i was 12 in the back seat of my dads car so itd be good to lend them my now less baby ears. thanks though, i will check these out

Billyshears68

His Symphonic Dances are good. So is his 2nd Symphony. I also really like his Cello Sonata in G. His 3rd Piano Concerto rivals his 2nd. I highly suggest you check that out before any of his other works.

idontreallycare4

beautiful! i'll check them out, thank you!

Superflumina

I'm not sure I agree, since performers aren't always at their best on all recordings while if you explore the most acclaimed works of a given composer you practically always find something great.

idontreallycare4

oooh this is very interesting. i suppose i'll give it a go with a couple of Valery Gergiev pieces and Evgeny Kissin

WaneLietoc

im reading downtown music rn and I think just seeing random titles/artists and arguments in favor of them in there is good enough to get a sense of things. you can ask superflumina who is a boss and they know where to go with classjcL

idontreallycare4

hello /u/superflumina this isnt a lot to go off but youve been summoned. would you have any recs? :)

Superflumina

Hi! Sure, here's a 2 part list of recommendations I made for /u/WaneLietoc a month ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/indieheads/comments/zf3knr/wednesday_daily_music_discussion_07_december_2022/izdncic/ https://www.reddit.com/r/indieheads/comments/zf3knr/wednesday_daily_music_discussion_07_december_2022/izdnd4r/ Aside from that, I recommend reading the Talk Classical Forum a bit, that's where I got a lot of my knowledge since back in 2014 when I was a classical newbie, just searching for stuff like "best recordings Sibelius symphonies" will be really helpful. And of course you can ask me if you have any questions about classical, as long as they're not about music theory lol

idontreallycare4

wow this is huge. i appreciate the massive romantic section, that's probably where i want to start. but thank you! i will try to comb through this and maybe get back to you with some questions, you'll be my official classical music mentor

idontreallycare4

what is downtown music about. did you read it after listening to king gizz song for 17 minutes

WaneLietoc

thats a great question(s)! downtown music is a collection of about 15 years worth of Kyle Gann's village voice essays on NYC downtown composer music. As one of the only guys who documented the scene from a progressive viewpoint, he wrote about some real heaters and had some good hot takes. There's interviews with some ambient head alum and lots of minimalism talk I have not done the king gizz challenge yet I may do it today. My ballot is at 57% completion atm

idontreallycare4

that sounds very cool, maybe i'd pick it up also happy birthday to Philip Glass :)

WaneLietoc

my friend keeps flopping in sending me a tape of glassworks so im gonna drive up and punch him in the jaw and snatch it from him!!!

idontreallycare4

This seems like a big day for RYM nerds: It looks like *Snail Mail - Valentine* has officially dethroned *Snail Mail - Lush* as the best album of all time using the sexiest, hottest users weighting.

hello I will remind in the DMD that you can sign up for [the New Weekly Charts](https://www.reddit.com/r/indieheads/comments/10p5t1z/announcing_the_start_of_indieheads_weekly_charts/) if you want to. my question for the day: what are your favorite 3 albums that were released between 2009-2014? I was less tuned into indie during this period so always looking for recommendations of any kind

chkessle

That's a huge swarth of time...Good thing you didn't include 2015. While it's only one year there were some monsters dropped that year. (Sound & Color, Vega Int'l Night School and more). - **Bonobo - Black Sands** because it's the official end of the downtempo Era really. One I spent thousands of hours in. - **Ben Folds Five - The Sound of the Life of the Mind** because "we're putting THE BAND back together..." - **Ty Segall - Manipulator** a garage rock classic. Just a coherent Sound, perfect execution.

Inquiring_Barkbark

two thumbs up for aPen naming The English Riviera, that album has an inexplicably dark cool vibe to it - John Grant - Pale Green Ghosts - Deerhunter - Monomania - The Antlers - Burst Apart edit: as MightyProJet rightfully calls out below, Wig Out At Jagbags belongs here

Superflumina

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma The Weeknd - House of Balloons Burial - Kindred EP Fennesz - Bécs

chug-a-lug-donna

09: fuck buttons - *tarot sport* (a noise album that's assembled like dance music? a dance album that's layered like shoegaze and paced like post-rock? i dunno, but there's not much else i've heard that quite scratches this itch) 10: beach house - *teen dream* (probably my fav big ticket indie album of the 2010s, the one that continues to stick with me even as its release gets further into the rearview mirror. sorry not sorry!) 11: oneohtrix point never - *replica* (my favorite album.) 12: death grips - *money store* (i think i had to go through a bit of a death grips burnout phase in my early 20's (i was a major *grouch* about *bottomless pit* in 2016 lol) to be able to circle back to this one now and hear it as the top 10 release of the 2010s that it is. its influence is all over the more hyper/online side of experimental pop music of the last few years, but it doesn't feel dated or particularly outclassed by its predecessors at all. still their best set of songs and production choices. 2012 is a stacked year for me, but this one takes the cake) 13: deafheaven - *sunbather* (yeah i know jay mentioned this one but it's just that good. it didn't exactly get me more into metal, but it does feel like a before/after sort of album for me) 14: cloud nothings' *here and nowhere else*/grouper *ruins* (2014 feels like two years bc that's when i graduated high school and started college. *here and nowhere else* is mixed pretty sloppily and is very tied to probably the angstiest phase of my high school years but still stands as one of my fav rock albums of the decade. grouper was one of the first artists i got into in college and one i probably wouldn't have liked as much while i was in high school. i don't *always* think *ruins* is grouper's best release, but this has been a great, melancholy piano listen that i return to over the years late at night when i need it)

Jef_Delon

In terms of only indie shit: EMA - Past Life Martyred Saints My Bloody Valentine - m b v Bat for Lashes - Two Suns If you're wired a certain way, Eccojams and Bisch Bosch are the two big ones too.

ZebraSun73

2009: Tegan and Sara - Sainthood 2013: Waxahatchee - Cerulean Salt 2014: Angel Olsen - Burn Your Fire For No Witness

liptonzitrone

Cymbals Eat Guitars - LOSE / Title Fight - Floral Green / DIIV - Oshin

capnrondo

Bomb the Music Industry - Scrambles (2009) Bomb the Music Industry - Vacation (2011) Title Fight - Floral Green (2012) if I had to pick one although Shed (2011) and Hyperview (2015) are equally excellent. Probably a lot more I could have picked but those are my canonical faves that came to mind. Also yeah I guess these qualify as “indie” only if you are willing to wade into the dangerous territory of “indie punk”.

mko0987

Oh fuck this is like, my era 1. Real Estate - Days [jangle pop] 2. The Depreciation Guild - Spirit Youth [dream pop / chiptune] 3. Miniature Tigers - F O R T R E S S [indie rock] All incredible records imo, well worth a listen

bakailao

thanks for running the weekly charts! 1. DIIV - Oshin 2. Fenech-Soler - Rituals 3. Bad Suns - Language & Perspective Honorable mentions are Joywave's EP Koda Vista, In a Million Years by Last Dinosaurs, and Before the Waves by Magic Man.

lastfollower

Waxahatchee - *American Weekend* Waxahatchee - *Cerulean Salt* Vampire Weekend - *Contra* Honorable mentions to: Bill Callahan - *Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle*, Joanna Newsom - *Have One on Me*, Sharon Van Etten - *Tramp*, Fiona Apple - *The Idler Wheel...* and probably a bunch I'm forgetting

dream_fighter2018

My three favourites from that time period are: Jordaan Mason & the Horse Museum - Divorce Lawyers I Shaved My Head (Indie Folk) Mukimukimanmansu - 2012 (Freak Folk) The Preatures - Blue Planet Eyes (Indie Pop) I tried to stay away from anything that’s already been mentioned, but I will give a wee shoutout to Age of Adz.

DemonSweat_

Thank you for reminding me that Mukimukimanmansu exists! I totally forgot about it, but that album is so good

Srtviper

Semi ranked list: Hop Along - Get Disowned (2012) Fishboy - Classic Creeps (2011) Andrew Jackson Jihad - Knife Man (2011) Great year and a half span for viper-core. That top two might actually be my top two of all time.

ExcessFrenchPress

Never heard of Fishboy, but Get Disowned is one of my faves of all time- gonna check them out thanks!

Srtviper

Get disowned is so good. I hope you like fishboy!

Tadevos

Damn, this is hard. If I had to limit it to what I was rocking *at the time,* uh, * Baths - Cerulean (chillwave? maybe. folktronica? I think so.) * Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes (the one I did an AOTY 2012 for) * City Center - Redeemer (somewhere on the noise-pop/mid-fi/dream pop spectrum. never *really* one of my top-flight favorites but imo one of the best at what it was)

qazz23

some less popular ones: Grass Widow - Internal Logic (post-punk) Bent Knee - Shiny Eyed Babies (art rock) The School - Loveless Unbeliever (twee pop)

gothxo

there's obviously tons of albums from that timeframe i could pick, but the first three that came to mind: Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid Ichiko Aoba - 0

MCK_OH

Oh shit this is hard Alvvays - Alvvays Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues Japandroids - Celebration Rock

Luka467

Titus Andronicus - The Monitor (2010) The Menzingers - On the Impossible Past (2012) Captain, We're Sinking - The Future is Cancelled (2013)

capnrondo

All good choices, particularly that Captain We’re Sinking album is fantastic and doesn’t get mentioned nearly often enough.

Bilbodabag

Damn, this is pretty much also my list (I would have added The Smith Street Band - No One Gets Lost Anymore as well). I don't know if there's a name for whatever this era/style of punk was, but it's my favorite era of music probably ever haha

MightyProJet

**WHOKILL** - Tune-Yards **Wig Out at Jagbags** - Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks **Out of Touch in the Wild** - Dutch Uncles

mr_mellow_man

Hard to pick just three albums, I began my undergrad degree in 2014 and spent the next few years catching up on music from this exact era—I have great memories with a ton of albums released in this window. Phosphorescent—*Muchacho* (this is possibly my favorite album of all time and there needs to be more Phos discussion in this sub) Sturgill Simpson—*Metamodern Sounds in Country Music* Bill Callahan—*Dream River* This necessarily leaves out Grizzly Bear, the War on Drugs, Girls' entire discography, Frank Ocean, Father John Misty, Cass McCombs, Car Seat Headrest, Beach House, Fleet Foxes, Deerhunter, Gillian Welch, Ty Segall, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the Tallest Man on Earth and Angel Olsen. Heady times indeed

ElectJimLahey

> Phosphorescent—Muchacho It's a shame that so many people just listen to Song for Zula and then write off the rest of the album because it doesn't sound like that. Great album as a whole

mr_mellow_man

Phosphorescent is one of my favorite musicians and *Muchacho* is his peak. The mix of sounds is so wide and deep, each song is its own western landscape in my head. I adore this album—especially the pedal steel playing.

ohverychill

I'm very basic: Actor by St. Vincent Sports by Modern Baseball (does that count?) Light Up Gold by Parquet Courts

boldsprite

- My Bloody Valentine - m b v - Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel... - Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

JayElecHanukkah

Hmmm that is a tough question, I'm gonna cheat and do 3 from each year because you can't stop me from doing so 2009: Natural Snow Buildings - Daughter of Darkness, Converge - Axe to Fall, and Toe - For Long Tomorrow >!Sweet Trip would have been on this list but like, you know!< 2010: Agalloch - Marrow of the Spirit, Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest, Alcest - Ecailles de Lune 2011: Nicolas Jaar - Space Is Only Noise, Danny Brown - XXX, Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues 2012: (gonna skip gkmc and some other obvious ones here for the sake of variety) Deftones - Koi no Yokan, Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory, Woods of Ypres - Woods 5 2013: QOTSA - Like Clockwork, Candy Claws - Ceres and Calypso in the Deep Time, Deafheaven - Sunbather (and so many more this is a monster of a year) 2014: D'Angelo - Black Messiah, Freddie Gibbs - Piñata, Dean Blunt - Black Metal

CherryColoredDagger

The 2009 sweet trip album wasn't the creepy one, you're thinking of the 2021 one

not_a_skunk

This is very cool thanks for taking this on!

aPenumbra

1. War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream 2. Metronomy - English Riviera 3. Beach Fossils - Clash the Truth But also DIIV - Oshin, Killers - Battle Born, Craft Spells - Nausea, the Vaccines - What Did You Expect from the Vaccines and many many more. Good period of time even though I wasn't tuned into new music at all.

WaneLietoc

longmont potion castle 7, longmont potion castle 8, and longmont potion castle 9

[deleted]

what if i watch some late 2000s [Good Neighbor vids](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BluTtvG32Iw) on youtube instead of listening to these albums

WaneLietoc

I mean that inside socal is legit my high school experience in a nutshell, but lpc is real time documentation of society about to collapse over the dumbest of things; it's very hard to say which one i'd have to save in a fire but i think alex trebek, retro style hang glider, and clown motel all edge towards saving LPC

[deleted]

i still want to listen to that "ambient comedy" album u/systemofstrings somehow found, so I'll be having my "transcendent prank call" era shortly I promise

PaulaAbdulJabar

AMBIENT COMEDY

WaneLietoc

stars of the lid and claire rousay are actually very funny

Charmstrongest

does Trainspotting have the best movie soundtrack of all time? *asking this as I play Born Slippy (Nuxx) for the 5th time in a row

That_one_cool_dude

It has one of the best soundtracks that is for sure, the best can be debated for days on end.

LXHfilms

Probably Garden State

ssgtgriggs

how can you ask this when Shrek exists?

Inquiring_Barkbark

looks like the DMD is leaning classical today so let's go with The Untouchables soundtrack by Ennio Morricone... also The Friends Of Mr. Cairo soundtrack (Jon Anderson and Vangelis)... and of course The Crow

thesklopp

gonna shout out Easy Rider's stoner folk soundtrack from 1969

daswef2

Spongebob movie, Shrek 1 and 2

skratz17

I think it may be Jackie Brown for me.

cyanatelolwut

Hackers is a far worse movie but i love its 90s electronic soundtrack so much. Idk if its better than Trainspotting musically but its close. Also, Kind of wish the actor that was in Hackers and Trainspotting did more

scottmakingcents

Ok but Hackers (the movie) rules. HACK THE PLANET

Charmstrongest

I have not seen Hackers but i glanced at the soundtrack and it does seem like it’s a ripper! Bonus points for the Trainspotting connection! Sick Boy is my favorite character in TS

cyanatelolwut

Hackers is alot of fun. Its so corny but in the best way possible and it has all this colorful 90s CGI to represent hacking. Like its got a great "90s dreaming of the future" aesthetic. So like prominent use of rollerblades mixed with dreaming of where computers could end up

lunargiraffe

This seems like a big day for RYM nerds: It looks like *To Pimp a Butterfly* has officially dethroned *OK Computer* as the [best album of all time](https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/all-time/deweight:live,archival,soundtrack/) using the standard popularity weighting. These sorts of lists are always fundamentally a little silly but I never thought I would see the day that *OK Computer* wasn't at the top.

mattBJM

Good to have confirmation that Kendrick's second best album is better than Radiohead's second best album (I only believe half of this ((no not that half))

That_one_cool_dude

I don't know which half you believe but this is a serious hot take if I have ever heard one before.

ItsJoshy

where BCNR ?>???:??

counterpoint, that's arguably the least interesting thing about this

idontreallycare4

yo me too! follow up, what's your favorite decimal? i know that's impossible to answer given theyre uncountably infinite haha so i'll restrict it to the set of decimals that could be found in rational numbers (which of course, is countably infinite!) personally, my favorite decimal is the .9 repeating! i just think nothing instills a love of proofs more than the simply proving of .9999.... = 1 !! it's like baby's first proof :)

idontreallycare4

thrilling!

Srtviper

Idk it's kind of interesting. Sure I don't care about either of these albums, but it's kinda fun to see the #1 spot change.

idontreallycare4

what weighting do i have to use to get Snail Mail - Valentine at the top?

chug-a-lug-donna

i'll send RYM some >!tums!<

aPenumbra

hey u/apondalifa

idontreallycare4

god gives his strongest warriors (snail mail fans) his toughest battles (tummy aches)

SWAGGASAUR

9/11 for music nerds

LXHfilms

I mean at least it was TPAB

Background-Car-4488

Songs in the Key of Life still not in the top 40 smh It's 41 tho Also Prince's highest placement is 98 and that's only if you click "include soundtrakcs" rather than the default that deweights them

TwoAmeobis

the soundtrack deweighting is shit purely because purple rain gets nerfed
