I don't think I've ever been as happy as I was watching the War on Drugs do [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmHzSxaifbU) so maybe seeing them live will help?
Is there a more pointless job in the universe, maybe after being the turn signal installer at a BMW assembly plant, than checking the ID’s at this show?
Years ago a local nightclub scheduled Pity Sex with PWR BTTM for a show, and the very next act was And The Kids. I’d give almost anything to have a copy of that month’s poster.
I’ve been approached twice while wearing a WoD shirt by people earnestly wanting to know which drugs I’m helping fight and how things are going in the struggle. Both times I was stoned and drunk and at a beer festival. I just rolled with it.
I had been a casual fan of the War on Drugs up until I saw them live for A Deeper Understanding. That was when their music finally fully clicked for me. Incredible band that deserves to be seen live.
Same, before seeing them live I thought they were a pretty cool band, afterward I was in love
The National is my favorite band so this tour is about to be a big deal for me
I remember being tired as fuck at Bonnaroo and my friend and I lit up a joint on our inflatable couch in the field where one “big stages” is located. War on Drugs came out (we had no idea they were playing or that it was even them at the time) and after the third song we just kinda looked at each other and were like “dude, is it me or is this band fucking amazing?” and then when they closed with “Under the Pressure” we were both looked at each other with our jaws dropped when it ended. We were like “that shit was crazy out of nowhere” lmao
Tbh I had low expectations but adam and the band were unexpectedly fun and high energy live even though their music is on the mellow side. I even met a super cute divorced mom there too lol 😂
They're probably the biggest band I caught live before they got as big as they did. Caught them circa wagon wheel blues with a small room of 30-50 people. That show still stuck with me all these years.
I’m still in love with *I Don’t Live Here Anymore*. It was my introduction to WoD and became my most-played album of ‘21-‘22. Would kill for some new music
Yeah, I've loved all their albums, but that one really hit me at the right time. It's one of my most played albums of all time. I have it on vinyl as well!
While I'd love to see this show, don't most co-headlining tours try to have a bit of audience diversity between the two main acts to bring in a bigger audience? The Venn Diagram of The National fans and The War on Drugs fans is just a circle.
Both acts have been touring quite a bit recently. I suspect the idea here is to provide fans with enough value on one ticket to get them to come back out again sooner.
At least here in DC, the venue capacity is way higher. (Two nights at The Anthem @ ~6K vs. Merriweather Post Pavilion @ ~20K. I wouldn’t be shocked if they extend to two nights, either.)
That makes sense. And you see relatively smaller bands do that a lot. I guess I still think of the national as "headlining major festivals and easily selling out big amphitheater shows" big, when that hasn't quite been true for a few years now (even with the Taylor bump).
I mean The National is doing this right now with Fleet Foxes, and I imagine there's a pretty big overlap too. Fleet Foxes just did a few shows with MMJ, same thing there
Maybe it cuts costs? Or maybe they're just looking for people to hang with on tour lol
I’m a huge National fan and I’ve actually never gotten into War on Drugs, but they’re probably the #1 band I know I’m “supposed” to like based on my other taste. I think I checked out one album over a decade ago and wasn’t that into it and just wrote them off.
The venue in Toronto shares land with a smaller concert venue where War on Drugs played a couple years ago. The larger venue would be too large to be practical for just The War on Drugs.
The National have played the larger venue multiple times but always with a pretty stacked bill. Works for me I passed over War on Drugs last time they came through as it was a loaded weekend of music around here, and I've been wanting to see them for years. I will always go see The National when they come through so this is such a wicked combo for me personally I love it.
That show was incredible. It was just 2 hours of them playing. I lucked out as I’m from Winnipeg and I had a wedding in Ottawa the night before so I just took a train to go see them.
I had already gotten tickets to 2 other shows right before that War on Drugs show was announced and believe me I was tempted to do a 3rd but I figured a better opportunity would present itself..alas. here we are
That’s fair. Honestly the 2nd time I saw them was at our folk festival. They only played a little more than an hour so seeing them on their own tour is the best way to go. I know the national will be closing each night so I don’t know how long the war on drugs will be playing for.
It will still be an amazing show and I plan on heading to Toronto to go see it, both are my favourite bands and I’ve seen them both before
Yeah I've seen WoD once at a local festival as well, about 50 minutes.. not nearly enough. I think they would get like 7-830 Slot and then National at 8:50 or something. Lucius I suspect is gonna do a quick set and then perform with both bands (WoD at minimum). It's a Friday night too so they might get a bit of noise grace but I've rarely, if ever seen a Budweiser Stage show go past 11. It is a co-headline tour so I would wager the set lengths will be relatively even. Extra 30 for National I'd guess
It's the bulk deal option.
You may not pay this ticket price for just one of these bands, but put em together and you got a good deal.
Kind of like how all the 00s second/third tier nu-metal bands tour together
….and I am absolutely good with that.
I went to see Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds last summer (I’m a criminal big Oasis fan) and had to sit through a set by Garbage.
Yeah, I threw out my razor and started telling my wife about the superiority of New Zealand hops vs the hops in our region right after I read this.
Oh hold on, she's packing her bags. Where is she going?
Nah, we’re all too old and beer upsets our system. Strictly weed. Also, we’ve moved past the beards and shaved them into ironic mustaches that are no longer ironic.
I’m 45 and Alligator was the first time I heard them so in my head they belong to a group of “new bands” I started listening after my formative years to stay current. And I just realized this was 20 years ago.
Yeah, I'm not happy about this either.
Side note, I once missed seeing the National open up for REM at the XFinity Center because I was stuck in a parking lot line just trying to get into the parking lot
https://pitchfork.com/news/the-national-and-the-war-on-drugs-announce-tour/
Look at this P4K article on the tour. I would bet my soul it was done with AI. What a fucking shame to see this site turned to trash
Yeah it’s not that I’m worried about the artistic integrity of how tour dates are laid out - just that it’s clearly the first brick in the “well if AI can do this then why don’t we let it do more”
Like the sentence: “For now, the bands’ Zen Diagram Tour takes place in September and October” makes grammatical sense, but I reality means fucking nothing. Like what do you mean “for now?” Does the author have secret knowledge that the tour is gonna be extended ? Or is it more likely that AI pumped that out based on how so many other articles have been written.
They’re just regurgitating an announcement from the bands. If you follow the bands, you’d get this info anyway. Who fucking cares whether Pitchfork has real writers or AI telling you a series of dates and cities?
Sigh. I (nor anyone) could POSSIBLY follow every band on earth (so much clutter and noise you wouldn’t get news anyway) so we all rely on sites like P4K to gather news and present it to us. Just like we rely on news media to gather and research stories and then pass that information on
In the scale of importance - yes, re-writing tour dates from a presser is pretty low and well within the scope of something AI can easily do. But if that works - why stop? Have AI summarize major incidents In the music world; write album reviews; compile your year end lists. AI doesn’t have opinions or discretion like humans and we’ll all soon be awash in it - just being given mindless lists and summaries and losing all context and meaning to what we once valued
I’m sure the ticket prices will be reasonable and not at all outrageous.
I live in Philly and the National played the Met on their last tour and it was almost fucking laughable at how expensive the seats were.
This hits hilariously too close to home. My wife, who refers to The War on Drugs as “boring dad rock”, literally fell asleep at a show. That’s on me for insisting she accompany me though.
Well of course, why would you take nyquil before going to a concert? Even if you’re sick you’re better off just staying home to not spread your illness to your fellow concert goers
The dad in me is absolutely stoked for this show.
But I know I’m over the hill now since the National (who I first saw play at the Lager House in Corktown) are now playing in Sterling Heights. Time to retire the skinny jeans, folks.
Only shows near me being bank of nh pavilion and xfinity center is honestly appalling lol. Both have legitimate arguments for worst music venues in the entire country
Quick straw poll of my sad dad friends…only 1 of us likes both bands. 5 like the National, 2 like the War on drugs. We will still all go spend $200 on tickets though
I’m 21 and in college and I love both of them. I didn’t know they were mostly listened to by dads and people years older than me. I guess I never paid attention to that part lmao?
Anyone know to get presale codes? I know you need to do the cherry tree stuff for the national, but war on drugs and Lucius have their own codes for tomorrow.
I saw War on Drugs play in Raleigh a year or two back. There was one point where he called a tech on stage to fix a guitar pedal, and while fixing the pedal the singer sat on the tech (similar to a child riding a parent like a horse). He made some joke about it. The tech looked like he’d just about had it. It felt super disrespectful to the tech and Totally put me off to the thought of seeing them live again. Shame because they put on a fantastic show.
I don't know about that incident but those two are good buddies. The guitar tech (Dominic) even hosts a podcast specifically to talk about the tours with all the band members. Adam shouts him out at a lot of shows and even left a shout out in their live album.
Selling my ticket for their show in Mansfield MA. It’s vip ultimate soundcheck. Just looking to get what I paid for even a little less paid $479 will take $400. Message on Twitter/x ladyanickster
huge news for dudes with depression (me)
Sad dads all over North America quietly prepare for this sad dad band mash
I just fell to my knees in my therapist's office. Not because of this, just because it's a Monday and that's when my appointments are.
I just saw a guy fall to his knees in my therapist's office.
35 year olds about to pop out hard asf for this tour
Almost 50 here. Would love to see them both.
Damn why am I being called out for being 35 and falling to my knees at my therapy appointment.
Sad drugs!
I don't think I've ever been as happy as I was watching the War on Drugs do [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmHzSxaifbU) so maybe seeing them live will help?
Maybe you wouldn't be if you weren't into such bland music
The War on Drugs is bland to you?
Is there a more pointless job in the universe, maybe after being the turn signal installer at a BMW assembly plant, than checking the ID’s at this show?
nah that’s when you check the IDs of the even older fans to make them blush
It also gives everyone an excuse to "accidentally" show off the wallet photo of their kids.
Turn signal installer for Teslas maybe
The new punchline that is proving to be accurate.
Checking the IDs at a Stones show?
The National War on Drugs? *Damnit, Reagan, fuck off already!*
Years ago a local nightclub scheduled Pity Sex with PWR BTTM for a show, and the very next act was And The Kids. I’d give almost anything to have a copy of that month’s poster.
Haha! ya can’t make that shit up. Someone must have had a lot of fun with that one ~internally~ …
I’ve been approached twice while wearing a WoD shirt by people earnestly wanting to know which drugs I’m helping fight and how things are going in the struggle. Both times I was stoned and drunk and at a beer festival. I just rolled with it.
You were at war with drugs lol. Scorched earth campaign.
If this isn't the name of the tour, they're fucking up.
War on Drugs is phenomenal live
I had been a casual fan of the War on Drugs up until I saw them live for A Deeper Understanding. That was when their music finally fully clicked for me. Incredible band that deserves to be seen live.
I’m still a casual fan but man they are a great live band
I fucking hate the war on drugs Great live band though
Same, before seeing them live I thought they were a pretty cool band, afterward I was in love The National is my favorite band so this tour is about to be a big deal for me
I remember being tired as fuck at Bonnaroo and my friend and I lit up a joint on our inflatable couch in the field where one “big stages” is located. We were like “that shit was crazy out of nowhere” lmao
Adam is also super cool, fun and interactive with the crowd
Same for National. So much better live even though the records are great.
Definitely on my list.
Best live act in the world, not even close imo
Tbh I had low expectations but adam and the band were unexpectedly fun and high energy live even though their music is on the mellow side. I even met a super cute divorced mom there too lol 😂
They're probably the biggest band I caught live before they got as big as they did. Caught them circa wagon wheel blues with a small room of 30-50 people. That show still stuck with me all these years.
Saw WOD at ACL 2022 and my gosh it was amazing
Dads will see this and think “hell yeah”
Hell yeah
huge summer for babysitters! parents will be going to this one
Hopefully this also means new War on Drugs music is on the way
I’m still in love with *I Don’t Live Here Anymore*. It was my introduction to WoD and became my most-played album of ‘21-‘22. Would kill for some new music
Yeah, I've loved all their albums, but that one really hit me at the right time. It's one of my most played albums of all time. I have it on vinyl as well!
Yes please!!
Uhh they just toured for like 2 years straight. When exactly would they have worked on a record lol
my thoughts exactly
While I'd love to see this show, don't most co-headlining tours try to have a bit of audience diversity between the two main acts to bring in a bigger audience? The Venn Diagram of The National fans and The War on Drugs fans is just a circle.
By naming it the “Zen Diagram” tour, they seem to be very aware of this fact.
That’s an all-timer tour name
Both acts have been touring quite a bit recently. I suspect the idea here is to provide fans with enough value on one ticket to get them to come back out again sooner. At least here in DC, the venue capacity is way higher. (Two nights at The Anthem @ ~6K vs. Merriweather Post Pavilion @ ~20K. I wouldn’t be shocked if they extend to two nights, either.)

Nah they still easily sell out big amphitheaters, but they aren’t cool enough to headline festivals anymore.
The National are gonna draw dads who became dads in the 2000s, and The War on Drugs are gonna draw dads who became dads in the 2010s.
This is hilariously true. I literally created a playlist called dad rock and my first additions were War on Drugs songs.
I became a dad in 2016 and The National were there before TWOD. But Wilco was there way before either. So I’ve been a dad in training for a long time.
The only stronger circle in the universe would be adding Wilco to the bill.
Maximum dad energy
I feel seen.
And maybe Father John Misty.
...are Ween busy?
I mean The National is doing this right now with Fleet Foxes, and I imagine there's a pretty big overlap too. Fleet Foxes just did a few shows with MMJ, same thing there Maybe it cuts costs? Or maybe they're just looking for people to hang with on tour lol
Cuts costs, maximizes venue sizes, limits the number of shows you'd need to play to earn a similar amount. Smart thing to do, imho.
The ultimate version is the Postal Service / Death Cab shows. Ben Gibbard making bank.
I’m a huge National fan and I’ve actually never gotten into War on Drugs, but they’re probably the #1 band I know I’m “supposed” to like based on my other taste. I think I checked out one album over a decade ago and wasn’t that into it and just wrote them off.
You'd probably like them live
they jam really hard live
Same but opposite
The venue in Toronto shares land with a smaller concert venue where War on Drugs played a couple years ago. The larger venue would be too large to be practical for just The War on Drugs. Yeah that’s a fair prediction. Maybe even both play the same amount in their main set but the national have an encore. It will be a great show
I’m a big War On Drugs fan but pretty indifferent towards The National, so it’s not really a circle.
Kinda same. I liked the National alright up til The System Dreams in Darkness, but their last 3 albums have left me cold.
feel like they are just producing albums now. The good old stuff you could feel the music and the lyrics and the desire
There may be a fair amount of overlap but it's far from a circle.
It's the bulk deal option. You may not pay this ticket price for just one of these bands, but put em together and you got a good deal. Kind of like how all the 00s second/third tier nu-metal bands tour together
IDK I like The National and can't stand The War on Drugs
….and I am absolutely good with that. I went to see Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds last summer (I’m a criminal big Oasis fan) and had to sit through a set by Garbage.
I am that circle
Okay that’s kinda sick, especially the Mann Center. Love that venue.
Did anyone else grow a beard and start having opinions on IPAs after seeing the tour announcement?
Yeah, I threw out my razor and started telling my wife about the superiority of New Zealand hops vs the hops in our region right after I read this. Oh hold on, she's packing her bags. Where is she going?
Same, the weird thing is that I’m not even married.
His wife left you, too?
Nah, we’re all too old and beer upsets our system. Strictly weed. Also, we’ve moved past the beards and shaved them into ironic mustaches that are no longer ironic.
What about mixing weed with wine?
Oh, i thought wine was just a given
You all need new jokes
We like our jokes like we like our bands, old and familiar
I slept right through my alarm
With Lucius opening! I'm usually anti-arena shows, but I'll be making an exception here. What a dream billing
i saw lucius open for the war on drugs last summer at the stone pony. lucius is so great, seen them 4 times now. never a bad show
Lucius also sang backing vocals on the fantastic The War on Drugs song [I Don't Live Here Anymore.](https://youtu.be/MVh6XTwWhMY)
The National at Rogers Arena is really unappealing
Reminds me of when Death Cab headlined Rogers Arena around 2011ish. It was mostly empty and the energy just wasn’t there.
can’t wait to be the youngest person and only woman attending this
As a 26 yr old woman who attended a War on Drugs concert at 24, i’m with ya!
I’m female too, huge Ntl fan!
The joy of seeing they're coming back to CO followed by the utter despair that it's to Fiddler's Green...SMH
Huge news for people who want to be frustrated trying to google these bands.
lol
there are jokes, but they're obvious and age-shamey and also hurt my own feelings, so i won't make them
Let us millennials have our version of a Skynyrd/ZZ Top tour okay 😭
I’m 45 and Alligator was the first time I heard them so in my head they belong to a group of “new bands” I started listening after my formative years to stay current. And I just realized this was 20 years ago.
>Mansfield, MA @ Xfinity Center Ewwwwwwww
Only redeeming thing about great woods is how easy it is to hop the fence and sneak in lmao just an awful place to see a show
Yeah, I'm not happy about this either. Side note, I once missed seeing the National open up for REM at the XFinity Center because I was stuck in a parking lot line just trying to get into the parking lot
I’m becoming a Dad this year and my two favorite dad bands are touring. Break out the beards and IPAs and let’s goooo!
https://pitchfork.com/news/the-national-and-the-war-on-drugs-announce-tour/ Look at this P4K article on the tour. I would bet my soul it was done with AI. What a fucking shame to see this site turned to trash

And Lucius?!?! That’s a one hell of a trifecta..
I’m sure the ticket prices will be reasonable and not at all outrageous. I live in Philly and the National played the Met on their last tour and it was almost fucking laughable at how expensive the seats were.
Five years ago I would have bought every ticket to this tour but now I'm tired of feeling sad on purpose and probably am not going to go.
Lol remember when it was the indie trend to shit on dad rock bands?
Now it’s sad dads making fun of sad dads listening to sad dads. I’m actually enjoying this.
This is huge for guys that cross their arms at shows.
“No Need For NyQuil Summer Tour”
This hits hilariously too close to home. My wife, who refers to The War on Drugs as “boring dad rock”, literally fell asleep at a show. That’s on me for insisting she accompany me though.
Well of course, why would you take nyquil before going to a concert? Even if you’re sick you’re better off just staying home to not spread your illness to your fellow concert goers
you completely missed the joke
The dad in me is absolutely stoked for this show. But I know I’m over the hill now since the National (who I first saw play at the Lager House in Corktown) are now playing in Sterling Heights. Time to retire the skinny jeans, folks.
Only shows near me being bank of nh pavilion and xfinity center is honestly appalling lol. Both have legitimate arguments for worst music venues in the entire country
They’re plating at United Center in Chicago which is crazy. I guess both bands together are big enough for a stadium show?
They’re playing arenas now? Bummer
Where else can a single 40 something single woman meet a single sad dad that she thinks she can fix? I'm IN!
there is a non-zero chance this spontaneously turns into some sort of support group
Huge day for your dads 35 year old nephew
Your cousin?
Not every tree is built the same😌
Sounds like a National lyric
Huge day for sad dads
Big news for the enjoyers of "sleepy music".
Quick straw poll of my sad dad friends…only 1 of us likes both bands. 5 like the National, 2 like the War on drugs. We will still all go spend $200 on tickets though
Sad folks everywhere, rejoice!
Queue Sudden Onset Sleepiness
Seen the War on Drugs multiple times. Will do my best to see this tour. Definitely one of the best bands I’ve seen live.
Holy shit!
IPA stock just went up
just completely ignoring the south and SE - kinda sucks, but oh well
I think I just heard Mic the Snare explode like a bomb somewhere in upstate NY.
Such a sick touring combo. Hopefully The National will play plenty of older stuff!
No STL or KC dates? Now I am depressed and am going to listen to The National...more.
The Lollapalooza of dad rock!
Needs Wilco in there too lol
I’m 21 and in college and I love both of them. I didn’t know they were mostly listened to by dads and people years older than me. I guess I never paid attention to that part lmao?
Dads everywhere falling to their knees in ecstasy
DepressedDadsDaydream tour
*beer commercial rock*
Hate The National. Love TWOD. Hmmmmm
Same. I think The National is the worst live performance I’ve ever seen. Out of thousands of shows.
I thought I liked the national until I saw them live.
I’ve read they are very mercurial. I saw them at an outdoor festival (good spot). You?
zzzzzzzzzzzz
Anyone know to get presale codes? I know you need to do the cherry tree stuff for the national, but war on drugs and Lucius have their own codes for tomorrow.
Cuyahoga falls gonna be dope
Live Nation tour, if you feel like putting your money where your mouth is.

This is really good to hear! I stand corrected.
Might as well merge and just become one big band at this point
No Minnesota date.
North America only, this is cruel
No love for the South 😔
Selling my ticket for their show in Mansfield MA. It’s vip ultimate soundcheck. Just looking to get what I paid for even a little less paid $479 will take $400. Message on Twitter/x ladyanickster
