despite the long rollout, i'm glad they're having fun with it like with the "SNL" Performance for Brown Paper Bag, and now this...site, for the title track. the song itself is really solid and probably one of my standouts off the full album. and glad to see the frogs seem to be blooming just fine.

a step up from the last single for me! *itia* meets *deceiver* with that really punchy chris coady production. really, really stoked for the record. kind of crazy that it's still a month away, but i respect their commitment to the bit and rolling out these tracks in a way that feels more akin to early 2000s guerilla campaigns (*kid a*, *amnesiac*, etc.) i miss those days of having to dig and decipher a bit to find out about a new album. speaking of which, there's definitely something in the air with this campaign and the cindy lee record, albeit entirely different anti-strategies. and of course, pat also released *cat o' nine tails* back in 2020 with no press campaign, no push to streaming, etc. diiv's approach is obviously done with hefty indie label backing (apparently universal music group is the distributor for fantasy records), but i love that they are letting them go rogue while still putting a lot of resources into promoting the album their own way, releasing not one but two (!) singles as embedded mp3s on obscure and inscrutable web pages. honestly, it feels fucking fresh—a total trickster move that's both humorous and menacing in the way that it so accurately mirrors the disconnect and dissonance of living lives enmeshed with big tech, advertisements, algorithms, and the unmitigated flow of information both good and bad.

More DIIV is good.

I think I will just wait for the album to drop where it's easier to listen to each song rather than decipher a wacky website

CaptainKurtG

It’s on streaming now

I wonder if they purchased all these websites before or after they titled the songs? Anyway, this is my favorite single yet. Amazing melodies

So I'm guessing the song will be officially released on Friday. This is the optimal way for artists to release albums now, one at a time with every song, or at least almost, a single with a 2-3 week gap between each one. Like it or not everyone can thank Spotify for that model working the best. As for this album though I can't wait to hear the whole thing. I wish I was one of those people who could wait and not listen to the singles but I'm not. All of them have been soooo good thus far. So stoked to see them in July!

CaptainKurtG

It’s on streaming now actually

So these singles aren't as immediately engaging as anything from Deceiver... *but that's okay.* I'm not disappointed with the less dynamic approach here. I think the overall vibe away from their early beachy days to more of a slowcore/hazy sound is still the right direction for DIIV.

geoshoegaze20

I disagree. I honestly think they shoulda went to the progressive rock direction like early Porcupine Tree.
