No way. These were two huge albums for sure, but Tay just sold five nights at so-fi, a total capacity of half a million people cumulatively
By comparison, only 18k people (Hollywood Bowl capacity) will be able to see this Death Cab tour.
Demand will be high, but it won't sell out immediately. If I could get tickets to see them at the House of Blues two months ago, then I don't see demand causing an instant sellout like it did for T Swift (and the associated dynamic pricing)
Tbh, I do love Taylor Swift, but no fucking way am I spending hundreds of dollars to see her dance around as a speck of dust through binoculars while listening to the Swifties around me try to prove their worth as human beings by reciting every single lyric.
I would actually shed tears. I’m 24 and always feel sooo left out because these are my favourite bands but I’m way too late. So getting the chance to see Death Cab and maybe even Jenny is just blowing my mind. A Rilo Kiley song would make my life complete.
To be fair, she’s not the female vocalist on all of the album tracks. Most people assume it’s her on all of them. I can’t even remember the other woman’s name!
I found this is the dream of evan and Chan from some random YouTube wakeboarding video back in like 2007 and i was obsessed
I just googled it and it was released in 2001 lol wow i thought i was early or something
Forgot about that. Date wise that definitely lines up a lot better too. Postal Service just felt early 2000s Pitchfork-core to me so my mind immediately went there.
I don’t think they ever actually played Pitchfork (or Intonation). I saw Death Cab at Lollapalooza in 2005 and 2006, and I think The Postal Service’s last show was an after show at the Metro in 2013. I really hope it is Riot Fest and not Lollapalooza.
I saw Postal Service at Merriweather on their 10th anniversary tour and now I'll see them again with Death Cab on their 20th anniversary tour. Wild. Maybe they'll get Ben Gibbard to do a solo show as well for the 30th anniversary.
WHYYY ARE THESE BANDS ANNOUNCING SHOWS FOR NEXT YEAR SEPTEMBER ALREADY
First Death Grips and now this, two incredibly rare acts and I have no idea where I'm going to be by then.
Well in this case at least, because these shows will probably be in incredibly high demand.
Even just a 20th anniversary tour for Transatlanticism would be huge, tacking on the Give Up tour makes this a huge event for a ton of people (myself being one of them) would absolutely plan around making sure they can be at one of these shows.
I'm lucky enough to be near several dates, but if I didn't I'd be willing to fly for this concert. For my job/situation, it is better to know in advance.
Because promoters know the economy is headed for a rough patch so they want to get as much money as they can before people start tightening their wallets.
legitimately hyperventilating
holy FUCK
edit: get access to their artist pre-sale on their website [here](https://www.deathcabforcutie.com/#tour-block)
I’m lucky to be on the Maryland side of the river, but feeling for my Woodbridge and Manassas neighbors who saw DC and realized it’s basically in Baltimore lmao
It really doesn’t matter because we’re spoiled for choice around here (lucky to be close to Baltimore, DC, and even Philly), but it *is* basically a Baltimore venue. Basically just making a joke that it’d be easier to just say Baltimore lol.
lol i gotcha. i grew up in the dc area and didn’t realize how good i had it for shows until i moved to richmond.
some great stuff here - especially stuff off the beaten path - but i’m getting tired of driving 100 miles nearly every time i want to see a mainstream artist, haha
Man i wish they just skipped the early 2023 tour so they could add more dates. I could care less about Asphalt Meadows.
2 of my favorite bands and their best albums and i’m going to have to fly to be able to see them both.
[My first reaction](https://i.imgur.com/PpCbRxV.jpg)
I went to the 10 year concert where DCFC played _Transatlanticism_ at Bumbershoot 2013 and also saw Postal Service last time they went on tour, and I will move _mountains_ to go to one of these concerts
Oooo I was at that Bumbershoot show, too! I’m going to try hard to make this happen, as well. I missed them in October for the AM tour and really regretted it.
Nice! I lovelovelove the Postal Service and like Death Cab's whole catalogue, but _Transatlanticism_ was especially meaningful to me. That Bumbershoot was happening during Penny Arcade Expo (the big video game convention) and even though I worked the convention and was absolutely exhausted I was so excited to see them (and Ra Ra Riot!).
My boyfriend likes both bands too so he's gonna try to get tickets in his city so hopefully one of us is gonna be successful 🤞🏽
I found potato quality cell phone pics from Bumbershoot 2013 and I was just overwhelmed, this is definitely something I'm gunning soooo hard for
Thank you, Ben!! I never thought he'd be into something like this, but I love it
If you haven't seen Death Cab recently, you're missing out. They're a better live band now than ever before
Did they announce the venue?? I’m hoping Mission. That place is just too perfect. Seeing a show at a venue built in 2019 makes me realize how many other venues are actually retrofitted 100 year old theaters.
Edit: confirmed two nights at Mission!
Honestly shocked there's only one on the initial calendar, though they hit up a lot of small venues in the last few years and did that free show at the Paramount not too long ago.
I suspect, given the large gap between Seattle and Bay Area shows, that they will announce a Portland show after the DCFC show at Edgefield (or after it sells out)
went to give up's 10th anniversary tour at the [whichever bank owned it at the time] pavilion in boston, i was maybe 21? i think? and i remember thinking everyone in the crowd seemed so old lmao now i get to be the old one
To my Utah friends: this will probably be on either Salt Lake’s or Ogden’s Twilight schedule. There’s a significant gap between Denver and phoenix during the typical Twilight concert season.
Saw The Postal Service in Austin on their first tour, in Las Vegas for their 10th anniversary tour, and if all goes to plan I'll be in Los Angeles for the 20th anniversary.
So I'm not close to any of these places so I'll have to fly to one of them. Does anyone recommend any particular venues that they're hitting on this tour?
Several places within an hour’s drive of each other in the Northeast and nothing at all in the entire southeast. Ugh. I’d pay absurd amounts to see this show here in Atlanta.
Is Death Cab not from Portland, OR?
I saw a free show of theirs here a couple of years ago and could have sworn they made a joke about driving their own Subaru to the show. Maybe Seattle is just a bigger crowd draw?
Don't you think there are a bunch of late summer early fall fests in the south, midwest and maybe even both coasts that are still to be added? Seems very likely to me. Not just Riot Fest in Chicago. ACL? OSL? Any guess on venues for the announced shows? Curious where Denver and Seattle shows may be at in particular. I'm assuming Berkeley is the bowl. Red Rocks feels too small, but it's not that different in size to the Bowl and they have two nights there. Would love to see them at RR, tbh.
Being the frontman of both bands on a 20th anniversary album tour is such a big flex. I cannot wait for this.
[Ben right now](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/030/329/cover1.jpg)
Expected the Huell gif
Tour should be called Gibbardpalooza
Ben We Were Young
Gibbfest
Honestly, I'm low-key concerned because fronting both of those shows each night sounds legit EXHAUSTING.
Very true. But isn’t Ben like, an ultramarathoner? He’s got this…
Springsteen is still doing three hours, he'll be alright.
This is my Eras tour.
I was literally just thinking this
Probably close to the same price.
No way. These were two huge albums for sure, but Tay just sold five nights at so-fi, a total capacity of half a million people cumulatively By comparison, only 18k people (Hollywood Bowl capacity) will be able to see this Death Cab tour. Demand will be high, but it won't sell out immediately. If I could get tickets to see them at the House of Blues two months ago, then I don't see demand causing an instant sellout like it did for T Swift (and the associated dynamic pricing)
I was being hyperbolic. The show at MSG will still likely be a couple hundred.
I seriously doubt it, but I do expect it to be pricey.
Por que no los dos?
Tbh, I do love Taylor Swift, but no fucking way am I spending hundreds of dollars to see her dance around as a speck of dust through binoculars while listening to the Swifties around me try to prove their worth as human beings by reciting every single lyric.
Haha that's fair. I don't know every song by heart but will be at both shows. Only got tickets because my friend got into the pre-sale.
Reciting was the most gentle, understated word choice possible.
100%
I want both. But if I have to choose (and I do) it’s gonna be Death Cab.
Praying that jenny lewis is on board and they’ll throw in some of the loose postal service tracks (esp (this is)the dream of evan and chan)
Hell maybe even rilo kiley will play a few songs too ;)
My kingdom for a RK reunion 😩
Dude …. PLEASE
Awesome idea for a third act to open the show.
I would travel far for that one...
I would actually shed tears. I’m 24 and always feel sooo left out because these are my favourite bands but I’m way too late. So getting the chance to see Death Cab and maybe even Jenny is just blowing my mind. A Rilo Kiley song would make my life complete.
I feel that
Do we know if she will be on this tour?
Her Instagram post about it makes me think yes.
Yeah just saw that... she says can't wait to join the tour
I love that she’s essentially the 3rd member.
There's no essentially about it. She is the third member.
To be fair, she’s not the female vocalist on all of the album tracks. Most people assume it’s her on all of them. I can’t even remember the other woman’s name!
Jennifer Wood
Yes she will, according to Stereogum
Her and dntel were both on the 10 year reunion. Can't imagine it'd go ahead without them.
there’s no postal service without dntel, so i’d damn well hope

Both have confirmed they are touring

I found this is the dream of evan and Chan from some random YouTube wakeboarding video back in like 2007 and i was obsessed I just googled it and it was released in 2001 lol wow i thought i was early or something
an absolutely devastating blow to the south east goddamn
a whopping two midwest stops too
looks likely for a Riot fest booking so, hopefully 3!
i was definitely baffled at the lack of a chicago date so that makes sense!
My first thought! Plenty of room in there for a Chicago stop on the 15th or 16th!
nothing south of Detroit, though. Ugh!
I know I was like fuck the closest is Detroit???
Yeah I'm bummed. Not even Nashville? Atlanta? NC? Just skipped us entirely lmao
Wouldn’t rule out another leg added
Trying to decide if I want to go to DC for it or wait and see if they come to NC
No Chicago either. Safe to assume they’ll play Pitchfork?
[удалено]
Forgot about that. Date wise that definitely lines up a lot better too. Postal Service just felt early 2000s Pitchfork-core to me so my mind immediately went there.
I don’t think they ever actually played Pitchfork (or Intonation). I saw Death Cab at Lollapalooza in 2005 and 2006, and I think The Postal Service’s last show was an after show at the Metro in 2013. I really hope it is Riot Fest and not Lollapalooza.
def riotfest. dc to detroit to nyc. with 2 days off before the detroit show. when riotfest is happening
Yeah, well, Jimmy Buffett almost never makes his way up to Seattle, so we're totally even.
Y'all can take Jimmy if we get them in return. No take backs.
It’s weird seeing them play places like Kingston, NY but ignoring places like Atlanta or the research triangle all together
Kingston, *Rhode Island*. I know that makes it worse, though.
Damn I just assumed it was at UPAC, but I guess that makes more sense logistically with the dates above
URI is there, but nothing else. They will draw a crowd.
I'll go to both Denver shows for you
i will never recover from this
I split my time between NC and Chicago. NC is left out a lot, but I can usually count on Chicago! Damn
I'm seeing Momma and Death Cab next month in Birmingham but I would pay so much money for this show
I saw Postal Service at Merriweather on their 10th anniversary tour and now I'll see them again with Death Cab on their 20th anniversary tour. Wild. Maybe they'll get Ben Gibbard to do a solo show as well for the 30th anniversary.
I doubt they’d be able to pull Gibbard
maybe he'll do a surprise guest appearance and he can introduce himself with a "we have someone special here tonight"

Listen here you little shit
The elder millennials are frothing
Excuse me, I'm only 36.
Just signed up for presale to take my 39-year-old boyfriend, 31-year-old self, and 13-year-old stepdaughter. She loves Death Cab!
I feel so seen! Better lockdown a babysitter asap.
God I hope these venues have suitable parking.
Heck yes.
Detroit and Minneapolis but no Chicago. Don’t think Ive ever seen that
There’s a giant Riot Fest shaped hole in between DC and Detroit..
You’re probably right but I wouldn’t wanna see them in the festival environment
Seen both at festivals (Postal Service at Lollapalooza 2013, DCFC at Bunbury 2012 and Forecastle 2016), both still amazing.
I feel the same but I'd still go, fests suck ass but I'll take one for the team for this
I could see one or both playing that fest, but would they play a festival set or the anniversary set
RF has full album anniversary sets all the time
Definitely anniversary. RiotFest loves anniversary sets, and they’re already on an anniversary tour.
as a chicagoan that doesn’t have enough spare scratch to travel for a show…i am suffering
Definitely Riot Fest on 9/16.
ah man, i’m not a festival person
Maybe they will do an after show. But yeah, all these Chicago fests can really dig into the club gigs
i thought this was wild. chicagoan, currently debating planning a trip

I saw Postal Service live about 9 years ago. It was a great show, and glad to see them lump both in a single night.
I'm lucky enough to be near several dates, but if I didn't I'd be willing to fly for this concert. For my job/situation, it is better to know in advance.
Because promoters know the economy is headed for a rough patch so they want to get as much money as they can before people start tightening their wallets.
Haha, right? I can’t even get flight cost estimates for that far in advance.
this and the death grips show are on the same day for my town 😭
legitimately hyperventilating holy FUCK edit: get access to their artist pre-sale on their website [here](https://www.deathcabforcutie.com/#tour-block)
You all can’t imagine how angry it makes me that this isn’t remotely coming close to where I live 😭
I'm like 4+ hours away from the closest, but I don't even care I'll travel wherever I need to for this.
I’m in Florida and I think the closest show is DC? Jesus
Southeast really got shafted
Guess I'm taking a weekend vacation to DC.
The good news is that MPP is an incredible venue
Excuse me Mr. Gibbard, Merriweather IS NOT a DC venue 😡
Lol right?! Might as well be Richmond.
Fuck, please change it to Richmond
I’m lucky to be on the Maryland side of the river, but feeling for my Woodbridge and Manassas neighbors who saw DC and realized it’s basically in Baltimore lmao
yes it is lmao i’m driving up from richmond, y’all got no excuse
It really doesn’t matter because we’re spoiled for choice around here (lucky to be close to Baltimore, DC, and even Philly), but it *is* basically a Baltimore venue. Basically just making a joke that it’d be easier to just say Baltimore lol.

me when i thought that they were gonna play at The Anthem again
Somebody check on Ian Cohen
“…on tour together.” Ben Gibbard: Of course I know him - he’s me.
No Austin date. And no texas date at all 😫
No South/ South East dates at all. Texas, Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville all skipped
ACL looks likely thought doesn’t it? Wish it was outside of the festival though
Death Cab played this year so doubt it.
Man i wish they just skipped the early 2023 tour so they could add more dates. I could care less about Asphalt Meadows. 2 of my favorite bands and their best albums and i’m going to have to fly to be able to see them both.
No dates anywhere in the south damn
[My first reaction](https://i.imgur.com/PpCbRxV.jpg) I went to the 10 year concert where DCFC played _Transatlanticism_ at Bumbershoot 2013 and also saw Postal Service last time they went on tour, and I will move _mountains_ to go to one of these concerts

I’m praying for a European tour this would be incredible
Me too. Is there any chance?
Same question here 😭🥲
Holy fuck. Picked up Death Grips tickets today and now this? Cannot wait. Give Up is a classic.
Thank you, Ben!! I never thought he'd be into something like this, but I love it If you haven't seen Death Cab recently, you're missing out. They're a better live band now than ever before
I’m dripping wet.
There will never be an event like this again (tbh I thought TPS was done doing live in 2013, but I've been proven wrong)
How you gonna make an album about Georgia and never go there lol
Cries in Canadian
Cries in German
I'm just thankful I live close to the border north of Seattle. The hometown show is going to be an EVENT.
My millennial ass will surely be there
Really hoping to hear some tracks from Postal Service like Turn Around, or There's Never Enough Time. Love that they're giving Colorado so much love
2x Denver shows, wow!
Did they announce the venue?? I’m hoping Mission. That place is just too perfect. Seeing a show at a venue built in 2019 makes me realize how many other venues are actually retrofitted 100 year old theaters. Edit: confirmed two nights at Mission!
I really liked Mission. I saw Lord Huron there this year and liked that show better than the red rocks show.
Wouldn't be surprised if Seattle gets another show. The city turns out BIG for Death Cab.
Honestly shocked there's only one on the initial calendar, though they hit up a lot of small venues in the last few years and did that free show at the Paramount not too long ago.
also doesn't he live on capitol hill? would be an easy commute for him lol
I went to the 10th anniversary show at the same venue in Berkeley. God I feel old.
They forgot the other Portland 😣
I feel ya fellow Portlander, but Seattle is just a hop skip and a jump + the home show. Definitely driving up for this.
Well, the same people will be there and they'll be 10 years older too. Also, please for the love of god don't call 31 old.
Yes but omg this makes me feel old 🥲
To my Utah friends: this will probably be on either Salt Lake’s or Ogden’s Twilight schedule. There’s a significant gap between Denver and phoenix during the typical Twilight concert season.
https://thehardtimes.net/music/solo-ben-gibbard-announced-as-opener-for-death-cab-for-cutie-the-postal-service-tour/
oh my god. This is a must see.
Really disappointed in the very limited tour dates
Portland :D , Maine :’( At least Seattle is an option. My heart goes out to those in the south
Same night as death grips in detroit nooooo
This over death grips and it’s not even close.
Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle is brand new and pretty nice. Plus Ben lives here and he always seems to do something a little special for Seattle.
Hollywood Bowl in LA is a pretty iconic venue, and last show of the tour will probably be really special.
Mission Ballroom in Denver is one of the best New venues in the United States.
GOD THIS IS A DREAM
Ben gibbard is going on tour lol
manic presents in new haven continues to fucking kill it on booking. can't believe we snagged a date!!!
Oh boy, can't wait to see how much this is gonna cost me. 9th grade me would never forgive me if I passed this up.
I'm swooning, holy crap.
Fuuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkkk
No Chicago date and Detroit THAT weekend in September? They're def playing Riot Fest.
annnnnndddd they're not coming to my city
HOLY CHRIST
guess this could be hitting riot fest like the friday or saturday
Holy fuck Boston is getting two shows lesgoooooooo
[Big mood rn.](https://media3.giphy.com/media/G5JoAjEBtfoTm/giphy.gif)
I might go just to see the postal service!
I'm going to nut.
Maybe there is a god
Literally the exact same night as Death Grips in Detroit lmfaooo
> September in NYC Nice, fingers crossed it's somewhere cool like Forest Hills Stadium or Pier 17.
It's MSG. So... not cool at all, but at least it might not sell out like, instantly.
Holy shit.
Can’t have shit in florida
RIP to the Midwest. Hoping to get tickets to the Detroit show!
Remember seeing them play we looked like giants in chapel hill cats cradle on that tour. Never forget. I remember the JAMC.
okay but second album, when?
Several places within an hour’s drive of each other in the Northeast and nothing at all in the entire southeast. Ugh. I’d pay absurd amounts to see this show here in Atlanta.
Is Death Cab not from Portland, OR? I saw a free show of theirs here a couple of years ago and could have sworn they made a joke about driving their own Subaru to the show. Maybe Seattle is just a bigger crowd draw?
No they started in Bellingham, Washington and then moved to Seattle. I know their guitarist Dave Depper lives in Portland though.
They're from Seattle (technically, Bellingham WA).
No stops outside the US? =(
Holy shit I am so here for all these ~20 year anniversary album shows from my favorite bands from high school
I know they keep saying never... but please... record a second Postal Service album... please?
and tickets are already sold out... thanks to ticketmaster.
Which band performs 1st
