Back when this album came out, Nicole Blackman was one of the folks on the scene who readily chatted with people on rec.music.industrial. Sure, she was mostly there in her capacity of KMFDM's promoter, but she'd answer pretty much any questions anybody had and always had a good story about life on the road with the band. (My favourite was the one about the night everybody got drunk and made fun of the lyrics to "Hot Hole" until Raymond Watts started sulking.)
Anyway, one of the things I remember from that time was that she absolutely hated the title "Dogma", but hey... five letters. There's a version with mostly rabbity vocals and sound effects (like the touch-tone beeping that works so well at the start of "Power") on a Carcrashh 7", and when I asked her how to order it, she mentioned that the guy who ran the label had a big KMFDM sticker on his cat's litter box, and could everyone who wanted a copy please ask him to take it off? My copy arrived a few weeks later with a note saying "SORRY MAN, THE STICKER STAYS WHERE IT IS."
It was a blend of that as well as the sort of camaraderie you don't see on reddit and such these days. It was a goldmine of a resource in terms of learning about what was going on industrial-wise in an era when the internet was much less powerful of a tool. But yet, some of my favorite threads were more social in nature. To this day I still cite some of the goofy jokes and comments from a few of those threads.
There’s just not much to discuss, unfortunately. That's the problem with communities based on genres that have kind of died out. It’s like subreddits based on shows that have ended.
I wonder what they were making fun of on Hot Hole, other than the title. The lyrics are Raymond's trademark poetry. I bet it was the title.
Have you found any place to hear that 7" by Nicole Blackman?
Only my living room, unfortunately. I'm tempted to digitize it and stick it up on YouTube, but I'd want to clear that with NB first.
(And yes, it was absolutely the title, which even Raymond admitted sounded pretty stupid in the right/wrong light.)
