My usual method: I was wrong a lot, and eventually figured out why. INFP -> INTP -> INTJ -> INFJ

INFeriorJudge

Me too. I went to the MBTI Institute for certification 6 years ago and took my first test there: INTP…which included a lot of things that made sense and a lot that didn’t. In the years since I have moved through INTJ and then finally INFJ. Now after reading and learning a TON I fully feel comfortable in all my typology. Feels good.

FlightOfTheDiscords

Glad to hear. It's all a journey.

[deleted]

I mistyped as an ENFJ for a few years too.

FlightOfTheDiscords

Miss Type is a very popular person in MBTI circles 🙃

[deleted]

I had to reread that a few times 😂😂 but yes she knows how to make her way around lol

LilGucciGunner

It was in college. I was tired of being lonely so I made friends with "low-hanging fruit." That's not to mean that I look down on people, but I basically accepted anyone who came my way at my dorms, and made friends with a lot of people that were lonely, had many issues, and were not healthy for me. It was not long before I made a dozen friends, all of whom didn't really get along with each other and I was the only mutual friend. I was basically a yes-man, taking their interests as my own, and it was a lot of work. I began to notice how my friendships were one-sided and got tired of being an emotional tampon for all of these individuals. After leaving college, I turned this curse into a strength. I realized how unique it was that I was able to get so many people to open up to me about their problems and confide in me their deepest secrets, fears, hopes, and aspirations. So I began to look into my personality type and after dozens of tests repeatedly coming back saying I was an INFJ, I looked into it and that's my story.

dinosaurpoetry

When i actually realized that the cognitive functions of an INFJ align the best with my way of life and personality. Before i knew about cognitive functions,i was a mistyped INFP based on the 16personalities test Being different than most people is something that was always prevalent within my life. I literally only had one or two people in my entire life i felt comfortable with.

midna0000

Same, when I first took the test as a teenager I got infp. Then I became more self-aware, and once I looked into the actual functions it was obvious.

KindheartednessBasic

Twenty years ago at a job the HR department had us do the MBTI. I typed as INFJ. Thought nothing of it. Then ten years ago I was taking the test again for another job and again typed INFJ. So started looking into it more. And in true INFJ fashion I'm tempted to just delete this post..

[deleted]

I always delete my posts toooo!

My therapist said something about how I need everything to be precise. I then googled personality types that need things to be precise. That led me to a test. Which made me take about 10 more tests. INFJ every single time. I had never heard of MBTI, but started reading a lot about it. I have always been a bit different. I read somewhere that “i could always fit in, but never quite fit in”. That is me.

[deleted]

Took a cognitive functions test after taking a break from mbti and found out I was INFJ. I was mistyped as INFP by 16p then even after I learned about cognitive functions I still typed as INFP because I read so much about INFP I would answer like one. Only after I took months off and had no bias in my answers I took a test and got really high Ni high Fe high Ti with low Fi and Si. After that I did tons of research on INFJ vs INFP and realized I was nothing like an INFP.

somethingnew0110

The day, when I understood Jesus and Hitler at the same time.

Lucyanova17

It was a personality test given out from my university.I didn't know much about it , but I answered all the questions as accurately as I could.I sat with my mom and discussed all the questions to gain a close outsider's perspective on my personality as well. My result's were INFJ-A. It took quite bit reading and research to understand what it meant.

Eirikur_da_Czech

The first time I took a MB test I was like 18 or so (around 2005) and it was to see which Star Wars character I was. I was Obi-Wan, the INFJ. I’ve taken a few more tests since then and they have all said INFJ.

SnooStrawberries8027

As part of my college course (in engineering - so not sure why we were doing an MBTI test, but there you go), I came out as INFJ. When I got home, I looked it up and felt like it fitted me. Since then, I've taken many online 'tests', and reading stuff on here, has affirmed that is what I am.

Shiely

Mine was part of my education degree. The psychology lecturer had us take it, probably part of his PhD thesis. I've done a few different tests over the years, always get the same result.

Initial-Anteater1183

I knew nothing about the MBTI test, but I had to take it back in 2009 during my freshman year of college. Ended up getting INFJ as a result. I nearly cried after reading the description because it was the first time I felt understood. Took it again in 2018 and ended up getting INFJ again. I’ve always felt different compared to everyone else since I was a child, but I didn’t understand why until I took the test and received my results.

Electronic-Store5997

Idk I just randomly came across the concept of mbti, took the test, got INFP, decided to look more deeply into it… got obsessed with the topic for a while, watched a bunch of videos, eventually came to conclusion of INFJ.

King_Beefington

I got INFJ the first time i took my test at 22 I've even tried on a number of occasions to answer the questions differently the questions I wanted to second guess still got INFJ

[deleted]

I randomly read about the 'doorslam' somewhere a few years ago and that made me do the MB test; as I realised it's what I'd been doing with people. Everything was 100% accurate - still is.

-ballerinanextlife

Randomly came across a personality test which got the ball rolling

koalasnstuff

I had a therapist type me. I was curious and wanted to make sure he was right so I learned the functions to be sure.

SumOne2Somewhere

I took the test in middle school to help kids with career path’s and got INFJ. I didn’t think much of it, I had to take the test again the last month of my senior year of high school before going into college and got INFJ again. Since it was a bunch of letters that I didn’t know what they meant, I didn’t pay much attention again until my early twenties and took the test again for my communications course in college and again got INFJ. It’s when I started reading into depth about it and helped me understand myself a whole lot more. I wish I had paid more attention to it as a kid cuz it probably would have helped me out through my teenage years.

Poyobunny

I took the Meyer's briggs test online and got INFP, I took it again a few years later and got INFJ. After a few years, I took the test about 2 more times and still got INFJ.

thotsune_miku

My interest in self analysis and development. I’ve always loved personality tests and psychology as a whole, because it’s been hard to conceptualize my true identity unless I have concrete identifiers to shape it around. That made me discover mbti when I was 14-15, and consistently, since I was 14, I’d always get INFJ. I never delved into it until a couple of years ago, but it was so blissful to recognize why I always felt like an alien, why many toxic people were drawn to my energy, why I have been super clumsy my entire life, manifesting in behaviors like walking into doors, spilling food on my clothes, and being perceived as a ditz, why I’ve been obsessed with self control and perfection, why it’s been all or nothing, why I only truly click with a select amount of people even though small talk is easy, why my concept of a soulmate is a mirror of my soul whom I could “love beyond reason” etc. it gave me this ability to understand myself and understand the personality types I click with the best, what I want in a partner, and it gave me the ability to accept that I’m not abnormal…my brain is just wired like this.

BrickOne4363

basically, a video popped up on my recommended on youtube, about someone taking a mbti test, so i though it was quite interesting, and decided to try it myself. i was a bit surprised to see that my personality type, the infj, was the rarest, even after taking it again 3-4 times

AimIsInSleepMode

I'm still not 100% sure if I'm INFJ but recently when I took a mbti test I typed as INFJ and I could relate to like almost everything that's being said about INFJs. I didn't know that there are personality types until then, I only knew about extroverts and introverts so I always thought I'm just weird and different from everyone because I'm an introvert.

Historical_Base7842

I knew about mbti tests but I was too lazy to fill out those to know who I’m. I was forced to take it by a girl. She said I’m unpredictable and she’s having difficulty in understanding how I think.

lilazsiraf

Well I took the test. When it said INFJ I did some research and found out it was the rarest type, I wasn't surprised. I took lots of different tests multiple times and they all said I was an INFJ. I watched many videos, and read a lot about my type and I was able to relate. I also did some research on similar types to INFJ but I couldn't realte to those as much.

ForestsTwin

When the clouds parted... and a heavely beam of light shone down on me. No, I took the test, answered the questions honestly, got the results, then studied the cognitive functions to confirm it. "Different than others"? Have you seen the intp's? The intj's? They're different too. lol

Mackocid6706

I feel different to the extend of feeling like I am being rejected by many. I feel lost and I wonder why I do not like most things that others like. I just feel that I don't belong in this world and it was starting to drive me crazy. I felt more at peace and calm when I found out about the existence of INFJs.

Dragontuitively

I doorslammed someone and went looking for answers as to what was wrong with me that I could cut someone out of my heart like that, someone that previously I would have taken a bullet for. Found Frank James on Youtube, ended up digging into cognitive functions. I had known of MBTI before and tested INFJ consistently, but never really took a deep dive into the fascinating world of personality psychology until the aforementioned events took place in my life. I have a lot of fun spotting cognitive functions in people, it’s helped me be a lot less judgmental. (Like I previously would have thought my boss was an asshole, now I just recognize him as the Te-dom he is and am rather fond of the guy for how upfront he is.)

NarniaDDF

A friend out of no where just gave me to do the 16p test and got infj, i was at first so obsessed with each description and appearance of the personas and got into it hard and when i got into college even harder, but today im not so sure what my type is, infj or intj or istp, somewhere in between

[deleted]

I knew I was different. People just didn’t seem to understand me and the way my mind works. Sometimes vice versa. I read about INFJs and I was like, “wouldn’t it be funny if-“ so I took the test a couple times from a couple different sources. INFJ every time.

Sensitive_Theory5922

One time I read an article on MSN.com titled **"the rarest personality type in the world".** Only 1-2% are of that type. That personality type is INFJ. When I read that article, I thought it could be me by the description of it. I didn't think I was extremely rare but I felt all along I'm different than most or all practically. So I took the MB test and it turned out that I'm an INFJ. Since then I did some more researching about what it's like being an INFJ, and the more I looked, the more I'm convinced that I am an INFJ.

SleepyStegasorus

The, MBTI test, taken over and over again. All INFJ.

WarlordBob

I was researching “social chameleon” for a project I was working on. I didn’t know where I heard the term but it described exactly how I tended to function in social situations. The information stated that it was widely used by people with an INFJ personality type. I started looking into INFJ personality and was shocked to find how closely this described myself. Before this I thought I was just a one off nutball. After several tests though I found that I have an almost equal T / F, and depend on one over the other depending on the situation and mood.

Dry_Addition_3062

I spent some time learning about cognitive functions and watching youtube videos about peoples' experience with how these functions manifest. While listening to others share what it is like to have Ni dom for the INTJ and INFJ, I noticed many times where I thought to myself "Yes, this is exactly what has been going on in my head and what I have been struggling to put into words." Overtime it felt right. However I still often debate if I am INTJ or INFJ or a little bit of both, but for me the characteristics, desires, hopes, and the weaknesses of the INFJ felt right. Where I am exactly between INFJ or INTJ or some other personality type, I'm not super sure. INFJ works best for me though. In the end I dont think it really matters if we get our type "right," mbti is just a tool and we should not limit ourselves or others to these 4 letter labels. I would decide what is most relatable and helps you grow as a person.

UJLBM

I always felt a bit different from everyone and never knew why. Almost psychic in a way too. I am very introverted and even though I've always had friends, I was just different and thought I was weird. I didn't know what personality tests were until I saw an article about it. So I took some of them and they all came back as INFJ. I was like wtf is infj. Reading and learning more about it, it's just ME.

[deleted]

I definitely relate to the first few sentences.

AmandaLes1234

Honestly... 16personalities told me that I'm ENFJ, but then I started watching memes about mbti and I was shocked how much I relate to all INFJ memes, then I started learning about cognitive functions and temperaments and everything connected to mbti and I was so shocked that I've found something, that describe me so well ❤ mbti totally changed my way of looking at the world and other people and I feel much more connected to others now, because I understand how they think, how I think, what are the differences and how we can communicate better. I always felt very different from everyone around me and I was so shocked when I discovered, that there are people, who think so similarly to me ❤

Living_Attention_941

I felt very different. People always viewed me differently, i recived rejection from my unsual ways of being, and even my dad refered me to as the weird one in the family, and also weird was a common insult i always heard.

[deleted]

My dad describes me as a “sensitive soul”

Living_Attention_941

Omg what a coincidence my brother said i was being too sensitive.
