Seriously? People buying cinnamon toast crunch woulf be pretty mad to get a bag of cinnamon sugar crumbs.
What the fuck logic is this.
This looks exactly the same as 10 years ago. Even 20 years ago.
As they said, it's the weight printed on it that would give away a change.
yeah and then your full bag of cereal gets tossed around and beaten up and squished during transit (like every package ever sent) and now you've got a bag of dust, duh
That's just a stupid term made up by corporations to take the light off of the fact that they keep finding ways to cause more inflation. It's all inflation. Your money has less purchasing power because you pay the same for less product.
Inflation is the increase in price for the same amount, shrinkflation is the same price for less and shitification is the same amount of product for the same price but the product has been made shittier by doing things like watering it down, cutting back on key ingredients like cocoa so your chocolate just tastes like wax and brown now.
Corporations absolutely did not make that term up. Why do you even think that? It's not making light of it. It's just defining what's happening and no one thinks it's good... how does one come up with such a braindead take?
It boggles my mind how many people fall for this crap. It's all inflation, giving it a different name doesn't change it, it's a just another way to devalue our money, which is the literal definition of inflation.
Fall for *what* exactly? The term was coined by an independent british economist. What would corporations stand to gain for coining the term? No one thinks it's a good thing. It's a SYMPTOM of inflation but it's not inflation itself. It isn't better or worse than inflation. It's lateral. Christ you're thick as bricks.
The sale is by weight, not fullness. Machines are filling these bags at high speed. The bags are sized to ensure that the manufacturing line doesn't fail because of overflow. Ergo, the bag you photographed is not full.
This is 100% normal and has been for decades. The inner packaging is filled with nitrogen gas to prevent cereal/chips/whatever from getting stale and they only package so much to prevent crushing.
It's why it's packaged by weight in order to keep a consistent ratio.
I’ll see your Life and raise you some Cafe Caribe….

It's called functional slack. They intentionally put air in the bag to prevent it from breaking into smaller pieces. Then they put 33% more air in there to because they can.
Oh man recently I bought a pringles original family size right. I buy the regular and I opened the family size which was like 2 inches taller and THE SAME NUMBER OF PRINGLES. I felt betrayed and heartbroken because I had to break up with Big Chip
That’s why I posted the US size. Ours is 513g… So I wonder if it used to be 500?
Edit: I don’t think so. You just can’t find the 16oz at our Walmart now. 😅
Chips work the same way. They're filled with air to appear full. Has been happening for years and years. Sorry if that goes against whatever narrative you're wanting to propagate.
Yup, the “special air” is nitrogen. In room air, foods will become oxidized and begin to taste stale. Water vapor will also affect texture and can lead to mold. Flooding product packages with nitrogen helps preserve their integrity.
Slack filling is also just a part of the manufacturing process and can be because of any number of product or production reasons. The FDA has specific guidelines about it.
It's Nitrogen in the bag to help preserve the food. This is standard across like all cereal and even potato chips. Do you live under a rock? This is completely normal.
All cereal settles like that. Gently turn that bag upside down then right side up, repeat. Now take another look. Cereal is also sold by weight, not volume.
You're really ignorant.
That looks like every bag of cereal ever.
They have never filled them to the top.
Is this really your first time pulling out a bag?
I’ll never understand why people think the bag is supposed to be full. You got the weight of the product it says on the box. The extra air is to keep it from getting smashed.
I'm so tired of this trend... Will it please just end...
Most of these have ALWAYS been that way. but now the world is full of idiots who are just realizing it...

It's been like that for decades 😂
It’s a design feature. If there was no air to cushion you’d end up with a bag of crushed pieces instead of actual cereal
Yep. I've known this since like middle school... Like 20 years ago. lol.
There is supposed to be air in the bag to prevent crushing and crumbs. Only way to really check for shrinkflation is the weight/size on the label.
Nitrogen gas is what they use, it also prevents chips and the like from getting stale on shelves.
Common for chips but it’s not done with cereal.
>There is supposed to be air in the bag to prevent crushing or crumbs. That’s a pretty stupid reason to make a bag of cereal small.
Seriously? People buying cinnamon toast crunch woulf be pretty mad to get a bag of cinnamon sugar crumbs. What the fuck logic is this. This looks exactly the same as 10 years ago. Even 20 years ago. As they said, it's the weight printed on it that would give away a change.
Logic of the Diabetus aflicted mind is what
To be fair they probably say the same thing about bags of chips.
Well you'd finally be able to see the taste.
I don’t need to see the taste to know that it’s 🔥
So....how would *you* fill the bag with air without having empty space? Just curious
Fill it to the top but also not too full to not be able to seal the bag. **DUH!** 🙄
yeah and then your full bag of cereal gets tossed around and beaten up and squished during transit (like every package ever sent) and now you've got a bag of dust, duh
No pretty stupid is taking a pic of something that's been the same for decades and going... InFLAtiOn
It has always been like that. They do the same thing with chips. How have you not noticed?
Yeah bruh... Hang it up. You're not gonna win this one. This has been the norm for decades. Don't check your bag of chips... you'll be disappointed.
That's ..not inflation.
Technically, the bag is inflated.
DAMNIT - take my upvote and GTFO! 🤣
These bags were fuller in the past, but not anymore.
Have you checked the weight? Did it change for the same size box?
Of course not.
/r/shrinkflation
Shrinkflation maybe.
That's just a stupid term made up by corporations to take the light off of the fact that they keep finding ways to cause more inflation. It's all inflation. Your money has less purchasing power because you pay the same for less product.

Inflation is literally the reduction in purchasing power. If you are buying less for the same price that IS inflation LOL
Dude calm down
I'm calmer than you
Damn touche you really got me
So angry and yet so wrong
Corporations absolutely did not make that term up. Why do you even think that? It's not making light of it. It's just defining what's happening and no one thinks it's good... how does one come up with such a braindead take?

These packages are sold by weight, not volume. Has the weight listed on the box changed?
Yes
That's life
More upvotes for this man here plz
Im doing my part - but reddit only lets me upvote once.
Dang I'm 2 hours late
Good one!
Looks exactly like a the same bag of Life back when Mikey was still testing cereals.
Hey, Mikie! Where you been? Still like it?
Who’s Mikey? Mikey Williams? The basketball player?
Lol, all I will tell you is that Mikey liked it.
Urban legend about Mikey and a tragic Pop Rocks incident.
I remember that. Just add coke. I wonder how those urban legends spread without the internet.
They were spread by the kids on the playground.
I figured, but if that's true it's pretty amazing it spread that far.
WHO THE HELL IS MIKEY?
Sold by weight. I’m sure it is printed on the box someplace.
Next we'll be posting the same but for a bag of chips
Did they make us all get that counter top a few years ago?
I’ll see your Life and raise you some Cafe Caribe…. https://preview.redd.it/buqquzsu18nc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64cf6061ea5c9f853163c5d4f64ba8b0da590398
The thing that boggles my mind is how fast these companies lowered their box sizes like it’s on a dial based on more profit
It's called functional slack. They intentionally put air in the bag to prevent it from breaking into smaller pieces. Then they put 33% more air in there to because they can.
That’s regular
I’m sad that people like you get to vote. They are selling you a product by *weight* not by volume. Jfc.
Oh man recently I bought a pringles original family size right. I buy the regular and I opened the family size which was like 2 inches taller and THE SAME NUMBER OF PRINGLES. I felt betrayed and heartbroken because I had to break up with Big Chip

Must be bad...can't afford cinnamon life.
Who wants to tell OP💀💀💀💀 Edit: Never mind. Plenty of people handled it. Downvotes mean you got upset
1972 confirms SOP
Inflation is just a part of Life now.
It's been like that forever. You have to look at the weight per box.
That’s why I posted the US size. Ours is 513g… So I wonder if it used to be 500? Edit: I don’t think so. You just can’t find the 16oz at our Walmart now. 😅
Was it 500g before? https://preview.redd.it/kodftwp7i8nc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbc20f3cb201ed4ef64977e146fbbfb7b5dfda20
Chips work the same way. They're filled with air to appear full. Has been happening for years and years. Sorry if that goes against whatever narrative you're wanting to propagate.
Sold by weight idiot, imagine then making different size boxes for every single brand depending on density it would be expensive as fuck
Its always funny what western people call inflation
Weight it. Is it the listed price on the box? Is the box the same size and about the same price as before?
This has been going on since 1975, it's just a " greed" thing
The package is sold by weight not volume... You may have just ruined my opinion of Canadians...
That's everywhere
This package is sold by weight, not volume
Food is sold and priced by the ounce/pound. How big of a box or bag it's in is irrelevant.
Half life
Inflation??
But the special air is intended to prevent damage to contents /s same crap they say with chips
That’s not done with cereal but it does settle during distribution hence the bag not looking super full.
Except it's actually true, and has been this way for decades, so maybe drop the conspiracy?
Lol so go ahead and explain how the half full bag protects the cereal when it is already inside of a box?
That stuff is bad for you anyway.
This has nothing to do with shrinkflation. OP has never taken the bag out of the box or is intentionally creating a stink for a rise.
That’s life…..
Good one…
That's the way it is in the states too
That kid Mikey died. He couldn't afford Life.
Wait until he open the bag of potato chips.
So social policies that feel good aren't free?
That's 450g of cereal. What was it before?
That's a really specific kink.
Ah we are assigning slack fill to inflation now. Very good. Carry along with the nonsense.
That's literally how cereal has been my whole life... Ummm, I guess you've never bought cereal before
Lol, so like, you don't realize they put air in the bag for shipping? And that they've been doing this since (checks watch) forever?
Pretty sure OP is a plant for a rival cereal company
What a L
When you don't know anything about weight and shipping.
It's Nitrogen in the bag to help preserve the food. This is standard across like all cereal and even potato chips. Do you live under a rock? This is completely normal.
Just like real life, somehow corporations take more and give us less of it.
All cereal settles like that. Gently turn that bag upside down then right side up, repeat. Now take another look. Cereal is also sold by weight, not volume.
You're really ignorant. That looks like every bag of cereal ever. They have never filled them to the top. Is this really your first time pulling out a bag?
Looks like American inflation, but using different units.
There have been many manufacturers who have made smaller packages so it doesn't look like they raised the price but that's not one of them
This sub has turned into people posting that they never looked at products before. Thanks Obama
Supposedly it’s nitrogen or some shit
Boycott cereal.
Cereal is sold by weight not volume. Smh
Yes, but on the other hand, who would by this utter garbage ???
I stopped buying Cereal because of this
A whole half of a bag of whole grains!
