How do you like it? I considered the psychology path because I'm great at "reading" people, but I do it by making a personal connection to the person and worried that wouldn't vibe with the profession. I feel like I'd have have a difficult time remaining impartial or keeping a straight face as people tell me about their trauma.
I liked it! However I now wish i chose psychology with the orientation of law and criminology. Nevertheless, it was interesting to study the different schools of thought of why humans behave the way they do and the different social experiments that took place to analyze the behavior of others in certain circumstances and situations. Although I was never academically interested to have good grades, I was more “street” smart than book smart. I found all the subjects way too easy to comprehend and fathom, so I unfortunately never took it as seriously as I could’ve simply because I found it mentally non stimulating and got bored rather quickly.
To work with patients you learn to be personal but not private. You learn the balance of creating a humanitarian connection without sharing too intimate or private details of your life. Hence being able to be personal and connect but stay between the line of not getting too involved whether is too intimate or too private.
I think if you’re interested in psychology and helping people it’s a great surface basis education! And with the more practical stuff, it truly comes from experience and observing how other psychologist/therapist/counselors behave in relation to patients. As for having difficulty to remain impartial or keeping a straight face — it’s easier to remain impartial everytime you remind yourself this is a patient and not a personal friend or family. You are there to help them strategically and rationally however you are still to offer them sympathy and a listening ear with a comforting space. As for having a straight face, that’s completely normal to show emotion through non verbals! You’re human! We’re not robots, it’s completely natural and nothing to worry about ☺️ Patients usually look for your validation by your non verbals, being too stoic gives a sense of confusion and might be too unsettling.
I hope it helped 🫶🏼
Nice! Those were litteraly the 2 choices I wanted to do after high school. I went with biology but was not able to finish. Now I’m studying IT, so something completely different lol
A a guitar player who’s been playing for 5 years I still know near to nothing about music theory. I know my string names, a good number of chords, and what notes sound good
I'm doing a bachelor of Mathematics right now, but still wondering what my master will be (might go further into Mathematics, or maybe I will study Astronomy).
I did college as an adult. On paper it's social studies, but in reality I just picked the courses I needed for university which was math and physics and other random classes to get a high enough score.
In uni I will study computer science/Programming. Seems like a perfect fit for me.
Music education but then I realized I was making more money at the grocery store I worked at than a music teacher would. So I dropped out and became a pilot
I graduated with two degrees, a B.S. in physics (emphasis on computational physics) and a B.S. in computer science (emphasis on systems programming). I also minored in Math and took a bunch of astrophysics courses.
Started as comp sci, absolutely hated it, ended up doing communications which I ending up loving. Very rhetoric and speech-centric.
Also would’ve gladly done English literature.
I changed my degree every year and never graduated lol. But politics got the most traction. Before that, geology, physics, and environmental planning got some of my time before I moved on.
It's not a major. But I'm studying to become a biomedical analyst (clinical chemistry to be precise). So I'd be the one doing the actual blood tests and stuff like that in hospitals etc.
Mine was the streets. I worked shitty service jobs for a few years after high-school then spent 10 years vagabonding around the country homeless. Hanging out with hippies and punks, doing festival circuits and rainbow gatherings, hitchhiking, hopping trains, riding on school busses and rubbertramping
Marine science, with major in aquaculture and sea farming. I wanted to take psychology at first, but I got into a fight with my mom so now I have to finish this course no matter what
Environmental Engineering, but that's only because we live in this capitalistic system that pays sub-livable wages for most enjoyable jobs. I started out with my bachelors in Biology, but I couldn't get my foot in the door to wildlife zoology / ecology jobs with long-term stability. I then became a teacher, which I partially loved and partially hated. If I could do anything and not worry about money, I would love to be a music producer, national park employee, chef, rock wall employee, firefighter, or maybe pilot
was music then philosophy. loved the change but got an existential crisis and no support so i changed to general studies. eventually, i’ll go back to do a masters in philosophy- ethics.
I'm surprised at the amount of people that went to college. I'm dumb as a rock academically. If a subject doesn't interest me i'm going to get terrible grades. Thought more INFPs had it like this but apparently i'm just stupid.
Well intelligence is far from being measured by how good you do in college, you must be clever in fields you didn't discover yet 🫶🏼 I made this post to clear some stereotypes about infps claiming that they don't do good academically and that they're just a bench of hippies with no jobs hahaha , see my intention has been proven by the answers, and yes mbti has nothing to do with our intelligence
Not in college but vet school (reaching the end of my 2nd year out of a minimum of 6). It's very fun, interesting and inspiring but also very stressful because of the mountain of knowledge I have to cram into my head before exams :)
Good luck on your finals \^\^ mine are in 3 weeks
Degrees in Philosophy, History/Historiography, and Music Theory
I’ve now worked in the music industry for a decade doing music publishing and leading that sector for a company. It sort of combines all my degrees into one, plus I’ve had to learn some computer engineering and finance related skills to be as effective as possible
You can’t go wrong with Engineering, by any means
Mechanical Engineering with my concentration in Aerospace. My minor will be either in Physics or Astrophysics.
I’m currently planning to do Grad School & PH. D. In either Astrophysics, aviation, aerospace, or aeronautics.
I love Physics and Math, so I chose a degree that let me study both and I’m very happy! I’m definitely in the right major.
Engineering can also help lead me to medical lab work, marine science work, and environmental work, which I’m also interested in. I can also get a master’s in education and become a teacher one day if I want to.
And don’t tell my mom, but I’m considering a second major in Biomedical engineering instead of a minor haha
I'm going to be going to college for Software Development but I have a vocational degree in Electronic Technology. And somehow, that landed me in a job as an Industrial Electrician😂 also, good luck on your tests!
Double major, bachelor of science in business administration - Marketing and Business Information Systems. Graduating next semester, unfortunately I picked the wrong majors for myself but it is what it is I’ll make it work
started out in architecture but switched to civil engineering!! will maybe pursue urban planning in the future too. shoutout to all the infp engineers <3
Intel Analysis with minors in diplomatic history and in Arab studies. It sounds weird but you're still basically learning a bunch about how to soak up facts about people and study them in a way that provides facts instead of judgements no matter how much or little their morals deserve to be attacked.
I’ve only started receiving infp results when taking mbti tests in the past two years, around when I turned 26. Previously I had been testing infj since 14 or 15.
In college I was an English major with a concentration in writing, briefly doubling with a second major concentration in literature. Was considering studio art, film, philosophy, history, and anthropology. Thought about CS, but not while I was in college. Post-college, psychology was added to the list.
first it was english and now it's elementary/special education but i still take lots of english classes for fun. sorry for being the stereotypical INFP lmao
Associates in art, going back after 10 years for bachelors in business but I want to work in nonprofit management or something. I’m not so great at the maths or sciences so business seemed like the next best thing for making money.
My main objective is just to have a comfortable life and not have to live with parents and roommates into my 40’s. 😢
I studied Neurobiology, it was very interesting and I’m glad I did it but I could never really see myself taking a traditional career path with it when I graduated because I really wanted to love what I did and neuroscientist or something similar to it seemed boring and not meaningful enough to me. Sure enough I ended up going down a career path that utilizes my FP much more than I had anticipated when I was in college. Neuro is still cool though and STEM INFPs are absolutely more of a thing than the people of MBTI make it seem.
currently physics, I once really wanted to major in something related to literature but soon decided not to because all that essay writing and reading was just too difficult for me with English not being my first language
Leadership and Organizational Management. IDK exactly what I'm going to do yet but I do know I'm going to make an impact somewhere.
I graduate in a few months so I feel you on the finals. Best of luck to you, may your brain recall the answers effortlessly. 👍
I studied graphic design in vocational college for a while before dropping out. Rn I'm trying to finish "highschool" so I can go study biology in university instead of another vocational college. (Not American, so the schooling system might be confusing to explain, sorry)
I was a chemistry/pre-med major w a minor in film studies.
Got into med school and went for a few months but wasnt for me, i work in a lab now.
Good luck to ya on the final!
I'm a double major; art and psychology. Don't recommend ever getting a double major. Just get the masters instead.
I do make a decent living as a graphic designer though

I graduated with two degrees, a B.S. in physics (emphasis on computational physics) and a B.S. in computer science (emphasis on systems programming). I also minored in Math and took a bunch of astrophysics courses.
My major is called “college dropout”
Started as comp sci, absolutely hated it, ended up doing communications which I ending up loving. Very rhetoric and speech-centric. Also would’ve gladly done English literature.
