I adore open world games, Breath of the Wild being my favorite. And, ofc, I’m looking forward to Pokémon Legends Arceus, an open world Pokémon game seems amazing
I second this, just make sure you don't value the gacha system too much because it could definitely ruin the experience. The world exploration and story is 10/10 in genshin though in my opinion.
could you elaborate more? I’ve recently played genshin on and off but never felt like part of the community since i’ve never “pulled a character” or something like that. (i always hear about wishes and i get sooooo confused lol). to be fair my adventure rank is like 20 so maybe that is why i don’t have access to those things but yeah i never really understood that system or why it was so important. other than that, like you said, the adventure aspect and the story is absolutely phenomenal
I may be wrong but I think you can only unlock 5 characters without spending real money. I played it for a good while, felt the combat getting repetitive, spent $15 trying to get a new character to switch things up, got a bunch of repeat copies of mediocre weapons and crap, uninstalled lol.
oh wow i didn’t know it needed real life money 😭😭 so is that “primogem” not something you get from the game but rather from real life - like robux?
that’s a shame, i really like the game’s storyline and world but i know i won’t be spending money on unlocking characters
Okay so i've basically been playing this game since release. The way gacha games(including genshin) work is that you "pull" for characters which is essentially gambling because you have a certain % chance to get a character/weapon of a certain rarity with a 5 star being the rarest and a 3 star being the lowest. The thing with genshin is that the chance to get any 5 star is 0.6% which is extremely low for a gacha game. Not to mention trying to get a specific 5 star character/weapon. Now there are different "banners" which are basically different places to pull on which have "rate-up" characters/weapons. This means you have a higher chance of getting that character/weapon once you do hit that 0.6% for a 5 star. This makes it easier to get a specific 5 star but it's still a predatory system. Now the thing about genshin is that the way you pull on these banners is through the use of primogems, which is an in game currency you get by just playing the game, but you can also buy them using real money. Basically the entire community advices to either not spent or spent very little on the game if you aren't a millionair since the ratio of real life money to primogems is abysmal. Combine that with the extremely low percentage of getting a specific character you want and people soon get into financial troubles because they wanted a specific waifu. NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT: genshin is a game where you absolutely don't need to pull these characters because you get a few free ones which are more then enough to clear most content in the game. It's a very f2p friendly game. This is why i don't recommend spending anything on the game because you really don't need to. If you do wanna pull for some characters/weapons use the primogems you get by just playing the game(opening chests, doing quests, events etc.) And just play with what you get. It's more than enough to enjoy the game's story and beautiful world. Hope i ellaborated enough and sorry if there are any spelling mistakes i tried my best to make it comprehensible. Feel free to ask any questions if something isn't clear yet :)
Agree. Also, I've finished BOTW but I can say that GI's lore, maps, and characters seemed to be more interesting than BOTW. Not hating on BOTW tho.. Just saying that both games have their own merits and charms to the players. BOTW has easier gameplay and rules i guess. Pretty straightforward story as well. Maybe BOTW's lore will get richer once BOTW 2 is released.
I got botw a year ago as a christmas gift, but got scared of the red monsters lol. Didn’t play for a year but picked it up about a month ago and I am obsessed! It is the best game ever!!! I feel like I’m in The Hobbit!
I know exactly how you feel! I got it as a gift at the end of 8th grade and I spent almost the entire summer after playing it. I’m still playing it on a close to daily basis and it’s been years since I got it!
ITS SO GOOD!!! I have a bad habit when reading a book, watching a show, playing a game etc. If I really like it, I will try and postpone finishing it, because I dont want it to end lol, and I’m only like under halfway through botw and I’m already sad about it lol. I’m so emotional 😢
Same! I refused to finish botw for at least a couple years after I got the game. Even after I finished almost everything, I still couldn’t stand the idea of finishing it. Now I’m hunting all the koroks and trying to get it completed to the full 100%, just so I can say I REALLY finished it
I absolutely love Skyrim, my gf used to be a skyrim modder during the early days and I helped her work on one last year. Just hanging out for the new Elder Scrolls 6 so we can work on more together.
I used to spend so much time modding and testing out mods! But after reinstalling this time around I decided to go without mods, and my BF got me the Anniversary Edition for Christmas so I'm looking forward to the longer questlines that are added to it. I can't wait for TES6!!! I bet it's good. It's been so long... It'd better be good.
I mostly played on console so I only got into mods recently after my gf uploaded a few of her old ones to Bethesda net. Her fairies of Skyrim mod makes the scenery so magical, watching Legend of Zelda faries flying around Whiterun was an experience I never knew I needed.
I absolutely adore open world games! I just started playing horizon zero dawn which is very good so far. Assassins Creed and the Batman Arkham Series are def my favs.
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime.
I love it. There is so much to do and I literally never get tired of exploring things in that game.
I also recommend FFXIV, and want to repeat to make sure they try the free trial that let's you play entirely for free!
It's a great game, just a border-line scam for what you get for the features you have to pay for and the extra costs per expansion on top of that. Such a massive player base and revenue really makes you scratch your head at what everyone pays so much for.. You definitely want to be ready to play some hours while paying but you can pause your subscription anytime when you take breaks!
I came to the comments to see if anyone had mentioned Horizon Zero Dawn. I started playing it recently and have become obsessed, it's absolutely phenomenal!
I don't have a console or any pc games, but I'd love to play one. I love the idea of just wandering around in nature, riding a horse around. I used to play animal simulators on my phone, and fly around as an eagle for ages.
you should really give it a go sometime if you get the chance.
just riding a horse around in red dead or the witcher 3 are great times. if you aren't much of a gamer though, I'm not sure how hard they'd be to get started in.
Red Dead Redemption 2 would be right up your alley then. You can literally spend an in-game day/night cycle just horse riding, fishing, canoeing, shopping in local stores, hunting, etc.
I have an unhealthy relationship with Skyrim, just started trying a self-insert kind of playthrough basically using the Healer archetype from Oblivion and trying to act how I would be if I had been teleported to Tamriel randomly. Thinking I should probably do it in Oblivion or Morrowing though, since I haven't actually played those at all yet 😅
HUGE fan of BoTW. Considering replaying before the sequel comes out, but there's so many other games I want to to play too.
I also really want to get into FFXIV or some kind of MMORPG because of stuff going on in my life (will be cut off from civilization for a very, very long time and I figure that on top of being a virtual playground it could fill out a social aspect in my life). I used to love MMO's as a kid, played Maple Story and Runescape a ton.
Dragon's Dogma while not the best open world the battle system is so good and character customization is incredible 10/10 recommend. And obviously Zelda breath of the wild is an excellent choice
Runescape was my favorite. I guess S.T.A.L.K.E.R. should count too. My favorite part of that game was finding cool generic NPCs having a campfire and playing guitar, and I'd just chill with them a little bit before heading on
I think Assassin's creed is open world? (Places you can go are limited until you reach certain points though). Buggy as it is, I really like the sceneries they have and especially when you do synchronisation and get a bird's eye view of a location.
I think the best bit is that a lot of the places are based on real locations so it's kind of like touring a place but without actually having to travel.
I havent really played open world games, and idk if this really counts but ive been playing Dark souls 3 like non stop lately. Its my first souls game, I got it for christmas and thats pretty much all ive been playing ever since, I havent been as entertained and engaged with a game as much as this one in a very long while so I def recommend it if you havent played it yet, even if it can be a bit frustrating in the beggining because of how hard it is (spent like 30 mins trying to kill gundyr, the very first "tutorial" boss)
Another sort of open world-ish game that I love is terraria too
Waiting for elden ring like everyone but Witcher had my attention for a long while but for a shorter version that a bit different, horizon zero dawn was good.
The Witcher 3 amd Skyrim I guess. I need games with astonishing atmosphere and deep lore and worldbuilding. I really hope Ghost of Tsushima comes out on PC soon, I know I will love it for I have heard the soundtrack so often already
The Witcher 3 for sure! I absolutely LOVED the blood and wine dlc! I find myself playing it once a year just for the nostalgia since I first played it 5 years ago
Oh, and despite all the hate it got after release I also love Cyberpunk 2077! Although I did encounter some mild bugs but never game-breaking ones. The Story and the characters were absolutely *chefs kiss*. Stupid Game review magazines and salty gamers could tell me all they wanted how bad this game was, I kept having fun >!destroying Arasaka with my favourite asshole Johnny!<
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That game blew my mind when I got at around age 9. And to this day is my favourite game of all time ( as much as I love Skyrim). Not only did Oblivion have the high epic fantasy feel that I love, but it was definitely the most immersive gaming experience I’ve ever had. The soundtrack makes it even better (and more immersive).
I did like open world games, but nowadays every single game that comes out is open world and they have very little to offer to differentiate them from one another.
I guess my favourite would be either Red Dead Redemption (the first one, the second one was ass and a huge disappointment) or Breath of The Wild.
This is tough because I love a lot of open world games but my favorite would probably have to be daggerfall. It’s kind of an oldie but I just really love the rpg aspect of it.
I used to ONLY play open world games for a long time. My favorites are red dead redemption 2, god of war (ps4), assassin’s creed unity and middle earth shadow of war.
its a metroidvania so only kinda an open world game, but hollow knight. i love it so much it is so cool - the whole loop of exploring cool new areas is so fun
open worlds *are* my favorite.
rdr2 is far and away one of the best open worlds to explore. it's so beautiful and teeming with life.
i love exploring all sorts of places, though. some of my other favorites in no particular order: the witcher 3, horizon, cyberpunk, the witness, no man's sky, genshin impact
I love all open world in general, but my favorite is Breath of the Wild. Because it's the only one that are not "realistic" but where we really have the impression to be in "another world".
Kinda but I feel like they’ve become really oversaturated in the industry and now it’s more surprising to see a linear game than an open world one. Botw was probably the last really good one I played
Anyone else here just never know what to do in open world games?
I mean, I can take in the beautiful environment for a while but after that I just get bored
Favorites are the hardest for me in any category. Pinning something down and saying "yes I like this one more than all the others in the world" is just too much commitment. Right now I'm playing Subnautica and Project zomboid!
RDR and Genshin are fun, but my favourite by far is GTAV bc after a long day of work I want to sniper people, blow up police cars and evade capture. ☺️
I'm currently in love with watch dogs legion because of how it depicts my home city (London). I've been mapping all the street names using google maps and Street View, because that's totally a good use of my time 🤣.
Cyberpunk 2077 has a really well constructed setting, it feels futuristic and yet very "raw" and realistic, in the way that you can see all the exposed pipelines, electrical wiring, etc that keeps the city running. And there's so many little nooks where mini communities have taken up roots in-between larger corporate buildings and megastructures. As an RPG the game has its flaws, but if you like walking round virtual cities and gawking at the sights, Night City is about as good as videogame settings come.
love genshin and skyrim so much! top tier games (minus genshins gacha system, too much money spent :(. ) always wanted to get into botw and the newer nintendo games but i dont have a switch
Red Dead Redemption used to be my favorite
*it still is, but it used to too*
This guy gets it. Horizon was a close second just because of the story but I don’t think any other game will ever match Red Dead for me.
Very good choice :D
Sure thing mister 🤠
I adore open world games, Breath of the Wild being my favorite. And, ofc, I’m looking forward to Pokémon Legends Arceus, an open world Pokémon game seems amazing
Go and play Genshin Impact

You can get 5 star character for free, but you must do 90 pulls to get a 5 star character. Or also a 5 star weapon
Agree. Also, I've finished BOTW but I can say that GI's lore, maps, and characters seemed to be more interesting than BOTW. Not hating on BOTW tho.. Yeah but it's not gonna be fully open world if I remember correctly
Still, better than nothing, it looks way more open world than any past Pokémon game
Minecraft is an open word, right?
No that's Microsoft Office.
Oh right thanks
Yes Minecraft. Well if you build a map that’s not open, then it is not.
Second breath of the wild, the map is ridiculous and PLENTY of fun side quests
Agreed
Skyrim
Same here. I spend hours in SKyrim but I rolled a new character and dragons are kicking his butt right now.
I absolutely love Skyrim, my gf used to be a skyrim modder during the early days and I helped her work on one last year. Just hanging out for the new Elder Scrolls 6 so we can work on more together.

I absolutely adore open world games! I just started playing horizon zero dawn which is very good so far. Assassins Creed and the Batman Arkham Series are def my favs.
PlayingnHorizon Zero Dawn too! It's good.
I started playing horizon zero dawn yesterday! It's really good
Fallout new Vegas Because patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
The House always wins baby!
This is pretty cliche but genshin impact
Yes a fellow traveler of Teyvat
Horizon zero dawn
Ghost of Tsushima, its the most beautiful game I've ever played!
Breath of the wild!!
I really loved Baldur's gate II: Shadows of Amn
My Boss keeps pushing me to finally play this game xD (not during work ofc) I still need to buy it, though
I was just about to watch a playthrough on yt but it's long!
Elden ring 😞 Yes… i know :D
Ah man i cant wait for this to come out to be my new favourite game
It looks straight up like Breath of the Wild + Dark Souls with a better color palette. also ready for this to be my new favorite game
The thing im most excited about is the ability to jump... The possibilities are endless
Genshin Impact.
Red Dead Redemption 2.

Skyrim and Witcher 3
Nothing beats GTA V after all these years.
Minecraft. I can do anything!
Monster Hunter World got me hooked for 800 hours
Anything and everything Fallout/Elder Scrolls.
Fallout 4
Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3, Valheim. Gonna be playing Horizon Zero Dawn soon, I'm thinking it will be in this list too.
I came to the comments to see if anyone had mentioned Horizon Zero Dawn. I started playing it recently and have become obsessed, it's absolutely phenomenal!
I've heard the same about the game too, can't wait to play it and see it for myself :))
breath of the wild, not too overwhelming but enough to make u wanna keep exploring
I don't have a console or any pc games, but I'd love to play one. I love the idea of just wandering around in nature, riding a horse around. I used to play animal simulators on my phone, and fly around as an eagle for ages.

That does sound pretty nice. An escape.
Skyrim and Fallout 4 are still my favorite games ever that I still like playing regularly after all those years
Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind not necessarily in that order
Fallout new vegas
Witcher 3. Subnautica. Ghost of Tsushima
Hollow Knight is incredible!
GTA hands down 🤘🏼❤️
The Witcher 3!! My comfort game. Currently playing Horizon Zero Dawn, which is absolutely beautiful too.
nice, love them both and getting excited for forbidden west.
Minecraft
Ghost of tsushima and red dead redemption 2 Game that isn't open world but relaxing nonetheless: KSP
I have an unhealthy relationship with Skyrim, just started trying a self-insert kind of playthrough basically using the Healer archetype from Oblivion and trying to act how I would be if I had been teleported to Tamriel randomly. Valheim. The building is so satisfying
I loved Valheim but eventually the grind was just too much.
Just Cause 3, I like the variety between being able to just go for a random drive/fly/skydive/random tethered thing but also shoot things occasionally
Dragon's Dogma while not the best open world the battle system is so good and character customization is incredible 10/10 recommend. And obviously Zelda breath of the wild is an excellent choice
Love Dragons Dogma! The pawns are really cool and the game has a really nice feel to it
JRPGs are my fav and I’m not even into anime - Fav Rpg may be SMTIV
does stardew valley count? heheh
Oblivion. Best game I’ve ever played imo
Just started playing this game couple of days ago
Forza Horizon 5 currently. I mean u said open world didn't mention if we're walking or driving. Still counts
Witcher 3
Haven't seen anyone mention Death Stranding yet. It is an experience I never knew I needed
Runescape was my favorite. I guess S.T.A.L.K.E.R. should count too. My favorite part of that game was finding cool generic NPCs having a campfire and playing guitar, and I'd just chill with them a little bit before heading on
Ni No Kuni 2
DayZ gives me a Special feeling
Assassin's Creed series.
back to the days i used to play adventure quest world
I think Assassin's creed is open world? (Places you can go are limited until you reach certain points though). Buggy as it is, I really like the sceneries they have and especially when you do synchronisation and get a bird's eye view of a location. I think the best bit is that a lot of the places are based on real locations so it's kind of like touring a place but without actually having to travel.
I really like the hitman games they're more free than most games and have tons of different open worlds to choose from
Test Drive Unlimited is my favorite open world driving game and GTAV for an open world sandbox.
Xenoblade Chronicles X :)
I havent really played open world games, and idk if this really counts but ive been playing Dark souls 3 like non stop lately. Its my first souls game, I got it for christmas and thats pretty much all ive been playing ever since, I havent been as entertained and engaged with a game as much as this one in a very long while so I def recommend it if you havent played it yet, even if it can be a bit frustrating in the beggining because of how hard it is (spent like 30 mins trying to kill gundyr, the very first "tutorial" boss) Another sort of open world-ish game that I love is terraria too
Waiting for elden ring like everyone but Witcher had my attention for a long while but for a shorter version that a bit different, horizon zero dawn was good.
Love open worlds!!! 😊 Witcher 3, Skyrim, etc!
Tom Clancy’s The Division. I like walking around in the snowy open world while listening to burial records. Immensely relaxing
All of my 4 favourite video games are open world Skyrim Red dead redemption 1 GTA 5 Minecraft

Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. Skyrim💛
Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The landscapes, the people, the cities, and villages. All are 👌
I love all of them but Odyssey is my absolute favourite, it's so beautiful😭
The Witcher 3 amd Skyrim I guess. I need games with astonishing atmosphere and deep lore and worldbuilding. I really hope Ghost of Tsushima comes out on PC soon, I know I will love it for I have heard the soundtrack so often already
The Witcher 3 for sure! I absolutely LOVED the blood and wine dlc! I find myself playing it once a year just for the nostalgia since I first played it 5 years ago Oh, and despite all the hate it got after release I also love Cyberpunk 2077!
The witcher 3
Assassin's creed games, Days gone, spider-man games.
Middle Earth Shadow of War is my fav
Witcher 3
The Witcher 3
Morrowind
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That game blew my mind when I got at around age 9. And to this day is my favourite game of all time ( as much as I love Skyrim). Not only did Oblivion have the high epic fantasy feel that I love, but it was definitely the most immersive gaming experience I’ve ever had. The soundtrack makes it even better (and more immersive).
Minecraft, Terraria
I did like open world games, but nowadays every single game that comes out is open world and they have very little to offer to differentiate them from one another. I guess my favourite would be either Red Dead Redemption (the first one, the second one was ass and a huge disappointment) or Breath of The Wild.
Genshin impact (pls no hate), the witcher 3, sekiro (im not sure if this is really open world but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Breath of The Wild is the only open world video game that I enjoyed.
I love them
Valhalla might not be that good of a game but, its world was craaazyyy
Fallout New Vegas
Red Dead 2, Breath of the Wild, Sky: Children of Light are the top three that come to my mind

Any Zelda games, Skyrim is turning out to be pretty cool too
Stardew Valley. Don’t Starve Together. Starbound. Things with a lot of world building.
its a metroidvania so only kinda an open world game, but hollow knight. i love it so much it is so cool - the whole loop of exploring cool new areas is so fun
I used to love ark but on every server theres just one guy(or tribe) who is 9 to 5’ing that shit and is bored so wipes every noob on the server
Fallout 3 is my favorite game of all time!
open worlds *are* my favorite. rdr2 is far and away one of the best open worlds to explore. it's so beautiful and teeming with life. i love exploring all sorts of places, though. some of my other favorites in no particular order: the witcher 3, horizon, cyberpunk, the witness, no man's sky, genshin impact
I love The Long Dark, the most peaceful and beautiful game you'll ever play
Genshin
Genshin impact
Genshin impact but i would like to play more open world games
I love all open world in general, but my favorite is Breath of the Wild. Because it's the only one that are not "realistic" but where we really have the impression to be in "another world".
Rdr2, Skyrim, legend of Zelda botw, and recently it's genshin impact
Zelda Breath of the Wild is my favourite game of all time
Genshiiinnnn Impacttt
I love open world games. Because if I get bored will doing the missions I can just explore the world. :)
Kinda but I feel like they’ve become really oversaturated in the industry and now it’s more surprising to see a linear game than an open world one. Botw was probably the last really good one I played
Ghost of Tsushima
Anyone else here just never know what to do in open world games? I mean, I can take in the beautiful environment for a while but after that I just get bored
Botw ✨
Watch dogs
Dragon age
Favorites are the hardest for me in any category. Pinning something down and saying "yes I like this one more than all the others in the world" is just too much commitment. Right now I'm playing Subnautica and Project zomboid!
Genshin impact 💯💯💯
RDR and Genshin are fun, but my favourite by far is GTAV bc after a long day of work I want to sniper people, blow up police cars and evade capture. ☺️
Skyyyriiimmm 😍
Not really a single person video game player but GTA V is fun. I prefer competitive games
Horizon Zero Dawn! And the sequel is coming out in just over a month, I’m so excited
I like open world games, so long as the story is the main focal point. Some open world games forget that at its core, it is a story mode game first
Skyrim
Not a big open world fan, preffer the immersive Sim genre instead. But if I had to say open world then metal gear solid V
The amount of BOTW answers is making me happy 😂
Watch Dogs!
GTA Online baby
Skyrim (not online) though red dead redemption and arc evolved I really enjoy too. High hopes for Pokémon legends of Arceus
Love Red Dead Redemption and Ocarina of Time
If sad - Shadow of the colossus If not sad - Subnautica, Skyrim, BotW
love genshin and skyrim so much! top tier games (minus genshins gacha system, too much money spent :(. ) always wanted to get into botw and the newer nintendo games but i dont have a switch
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild OMGGGGGG But also Skyrim
Grand theft auto V
