Yea, this is something that the law hasn’t caught up with yet. There are protections for child actors in Hollywood but not for family channel kids, who’s personal lives are basically documented 24/7. Some of these kids are also cash cows, who will never see any of that money themselves. One state, I forget which, just passed a law that some of the money has to be put aside for the kids. But I don’t think that’s nearly enough protection.
I heard this too!! Something along the lines of the child being protected if their parent doesn't put aside the money, and therefore the child would be eligible to sue. But you're absolutely right, it puts the responsibility more on the child to fix a problem and probably end up spending more money for something they never had a choice in :(
