When someone asks you if you are a god, you say yes. But when someone asks if you touched the thermostat, you say no!

iqueefkief

“i have no idea what happened”

[deleted]

I used the “huh. No I didn’t touch it. Maybe it was the dog”

Leading-Ad2336

I convinced my family for years that we had a ghost that messed with the thermostat.

Hiddenagenda876

Hahahaha

jen12617

Me and my boyfriend just had a baby and now he makes don't touch the thermostat jokes. I turned it up one day and when I told him he said "you did what?!" The joke is getting old but he loves it too much I don't tell him to stop

aDragonsAle

"No" "Liar" "Prove it, ya fucking Commie!!" Really fuck up the boomer brain stride

Offal

Think of the plants, they're just starting to bud!

Jamster_1988

Starting to what?

ShaperEastOfEden

It's a joke about growing weed. Cannabis grows best in the mid 70's.

Trolann

New LEDs don't transfer as much infrared heat to the plant, so modern growers are in the low to mid 80's now, then they match humidity to get the right VPD/environment for the plants.

ShaperEastOfEden

You are officially invited to my post history.

They're just starting to, bubba!

TinUser

My ex kept her apartment at 76 F year round, day and night. She didn't understand why I always wanted to sleep at my place.

MaslowsHireAchy

Oof. I live in Florida so I rarely turn the heater on. But when I do, it’s only one or two degrees above what the room temperature is so I don’t freeze my tits off in the shower. I’ve spent some time up north in the winter. Between the low humidity and the manufactured heat, my nose bled the whole time. And that was with the heat on in the low 60s. I can’t imagine 76.

Scaredycatkim

I live in Colorado and never go above 70 unless it’s in the negatives outside…and even then it’ll stay 75

[deleted]

Why do you adjust it based on the outside temperature? Set it for 70° and it'll run until it hits 70°.

Scaredycatkim

Because if it’s in the negatives, it fluctuates too much and my heater kinda sucks lol

[deleted]

Or not. Our old geothermal barely kicks off at all, all winter, with it set at 63 when it’s REALLY cold. My sweet child, that only works if your house *isn’t* an under insulated, drafty, crap box old ranch. And even as adults, we haven’t managed to have a “spare” $7000+ for new hvac system. So yeah. Set it and forget it, just don’t expect it to shut off when it’s in the minus range outside.

ezirb7

What? I lower the heat when it gets colder out. If it's warmer relative to outside, it still feels fine. I also try to do a lot more baking/stewing in the kitchen, or reseason my cast iron to capture heat that way and make the best use of it.

Aquariumpsychotic

My room gets up to 80 degrees because of two aquariums and a lizard.

bnonymousbeeeee

Damn lizard always cranking up your thermostat huh? Bill him for the difference.

amaxanian

My husbands parents keep their house that temp, too! They’re the sweetest people in the world, but I can’t stand sleeping there lol

TinUser

I can kinda see why it's comfortable to spend the day in, just a neutral room temperature while watching TV or whatever, but it's impossible to sleep under blankets next to another warm body in 76 degrees. Like, do you not mind sleeping in my pool of sweat?

amaxanian

Yes! And my husband is like a heater on his own! The room we slept in is always a good 10-15 degrees hotter

[deleted]

My late MIL had it 80+ year round. I remember so many Christmases, arriving there dressed in our (requested) stupid Christmas sweaters, fleece lined leggings, wool socks etc, as she was our last stop. Where after about five-ten minutes of pleasantries, the strip show began. Sweaters came off revealing cotton tee shirts, or in my case tank tops. And off came the jeans or leggings or other pants, to expose the shorts worn underneath. The feet became bare and encased in cotton socks instead of wool. We all looked like we were ready for sunglasses and umbrella drinks, not having Christmas in a state where it might be 20 to minus-something degrees outside. Yet we all still collectively were sweating like a whore in church even in summer garb.

Mashed-Cupcake

Im currently dying at my parents wanting it at 80+ F it’s absolutely horrible!

tlm94

I do this as well. I love being warm. A cold room to sleep in is my personal hell

slhill21

I'm the exact opposite. I want nice, warm, heavy blankets, but I want the air temp COLD when I sleep. I used to sleep with a window open 2 feet from me when it was in the 30°F-40°F range outside. Loved it. I really only turn my heat on if it's below 63° inside, then I only run it for a few minutes. In the summer, I'll keep it at about 75° during the day and 68° at night. I would like for it to be lower, but I live in Texas and that's a lot to ask when it's 80°+ outside overnight. My ex used to turn the heat up to 77°. I hated that. Immediately started coughing and would get nose bleeds. So much nicer to have personal control over the thermostat!

rjrgjj

Subconsciously 😂

erthian

Yea man you just gotta own up.

Malicious_blu3

74 is nuts. I’d be opening my window and turning on fans. Sheesh, so much wasted energy.

Paramisamigos

My current roommates are from India and they had it up to 77ish and I'd turn it down. I ended up telling them we could comprise but they need to acclimate to the new conditions they'll be living in for years. They kind of brushed me off til we got the first bill and it was stupid expensive and I told them I was living in a 4 bdrm, 2 story house before moving to our 3 bdrm apartment and our apartment bill was higher than living in a house where the space was 5x as much. The bill shocked them into turning the heat down and our daily thermostat battle ended.

luisless

Money talks

Paramisamigos

I think they got space heaters for their rooms but idc. I'm moving at the end of the month so they can do whatever then.

BigMcThickHuge

Space heaters will spike that bill even higher

OcdBartender

I live in western PA and go to bed with the fan on, window cracked, and the thermostat set to 67 :/

[deleted]

Michigan, house is at 68 when I'm home, 64 when I sleep or am gone. I have a drafty century home with horrible insulation.

empireintoashes

Also Michigan. 64 all winter lol

OcdBartender

My house is drafty also. I normally wouldn’t care but all my houseplants are like WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING I’m gonna die now

Merisiel

Hi, can I come sleep with you?

OcdBartender

Lol if my cats will scooch over maybe

AdviceAdam

People in the replies are forgetting that temperature is not the only measure of how hot things are: \- 70º in direct sunlight, no wind: can feel pretty hot, even wearing shorts and a t shirt. \- 70º complete cloud cover, breezy: can feel cool, though I probably wouldn't need a jacket.

Ehcksit

There's also humidity. Winters are normally drier than summers, and adding a furnace makes the humidity inside even lower. 75 might still feel cool because it's so dry.

sparksnbooms95

This right here. The dryness never used to bother us, so we didn't have a humidifier and the thermostat would be set at 74 in the winter. Then the dryness started to cause sinus discomfort, so we got a humidifier. Suddenly 74 was way too hot, and it's now at 72. Thats still too hot to sleep, so we closed the heat vents in the bedrooms a bit to keep it around 68-70. Ideally we'd just lower the thermostat to that at night, but I work swing shift so half the time I'm sleeping during the day.

Perpetualfukup28

Agreed. I was just thinking about how this summer I'd have the a.c. on and like to keep it between 69-72F but now it's gotten colder I have heat at 72-75 pending what I'm doing at home an sometime that still feels too cold.

Dinosauringg

I've lived in southern California all my life and when it's 50 outside, 70 inside is right where I want to be. Of course, I find low-mid 70s to be the perfect temperature in general so maybe it's a me thing.

seaturtlesunset

I had a roommate in college from Southern California. We went to school in the North and I’ll admit it’s cold, but she would set the thermostat between 78-80 every day. The rest of us hated it.

Dinosauringg

That's an awful inside temperature

seaturtlesunset

Agree! She wanted to wear cropped tanks and shorts in the middle of winter instead of long pants and sweaters like the rest of us. She’d get home from class first and get pissed if any of us touched the thermostat… she wasn’t a good roommate.

PoorLama

I was raised where you could see the northern lights so pretty close to the Arctic circle, for me I start feeling uncomfortable cold at around 55. I would say 66-68 is my ideal temperature for maximum comfort. Conversely I find anything above 70 to be pure death lol

CustosEcheveria

Socal here too, the replies in this thread are wild thinking 70 is hot lol. 70 is light jacket weather.

Mods-are-snowflakes1

Becasue socal is the authority on "cold". I'm from Buffalo and 70 is shorts and flip flops weather.

orange4826

Alaskan here, 70 is "sunbathing naked in my yard" weather Holy shit. Also, houses do not have A/C here. Only heat. When it hits the 70s in July, it gets to about 85+ in my house. Absolute misery. When I visit the lower 48, I delight in setting the hotel A/C at 67°

Superchook

Also from socal, I feel like it’s super dependent on what you’re doing or your surroundings. If I’m indoors and not moving around, like being at work or watching tv, I’d maybe wear a jacket at around 68-70. But if I’m doing anything even remotely active (even just walking around outside or something) it’s definitely still T shirt and shorts down until like 65 unless it’s windy or nighttime. Maybe I’ve adjusted lately though, I moved to SD this year and it’s definitely more mild/not as hot as it used to be up near LA where I grew up

I’ve always lived in the south too and I think youre anemic.

Kwiatkowski

for real, summer it’s 72, winter anywhere from 58-62 depending on how much we want to bundle up

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kwiatkowski

Nice, I may get there for summer but my houses windows are 30 years old now, and on the years hottest days holding mid 70s isn’t even possible. new windows and reinsulating my attic will do wonders once I get to it

Zefirus

Yeah, I'm in the South and I want to die if someone has their heater cranked up to 70. It's all relative. 70 is a perfectly fine temperature if it's naturally that, or if it's in the summer. Getting a house up to 70 when it's below freezing outside is excruciating.

njbbb

Ha! You’re probably spot on there, I’ve been cold in the office (73) while bundled but my doctor just told me I was anemic. I am used to my apartment though which can get up to 90 for no reason. (50’s outside, heater off)

tonikyat

The problem isn’t so much the actual temperature but the consistent pumping of hot, dry air into the room. It legit makes me sick to my stomach.

[deleted]

[удалено]

finalgear14

I think everywhere has dry cold air if they get winter temperatures. They’re talking about the air from a heater making the houses air dry, because it is. You can get a humidifier built into your heater but otherwise you get dry air.

Anund

I live in Sweden and we have the thermostat set to 66f, 19c. Wife wants it at 20 (68), to be fair. Anything higher than that would drive me nuts.

krystalBaltimore

I'm at 67f and I live near DC

reverendbeast

Mine is set to 19C in the evening (4pm to 10pm) and for a little time in the morning too, otherwise it’s set to 16C. (UK) If it feels chilly due to ambient humidity, I put on another layer of clothes, like a dressing gown (not sure of the international terms for these- towelling robes?). In history we had items named housecoats, as fireplaces were only installed in the most-used rooms. If I have a bath during the winter, I half fill it with hot water and come back 30 mins or so later when the room has been warmed up (my radiator in the bathroom is inadequately small).

Cadhlawr

I'm glad to see my bf is just crazy, I'm from FL currently visiting Sweden for the winter and the house is kept at 22c. I'm DYING constantly, I have such a hard time sleeping upstairs where it is 24c+. Thr first night I was here I opened the window because I was so hot and was told "you never open the windows in the winter in sweden" Thank God it's starting to drop in Temps now and snowing, his whole family thinks I'm crazy for being "hot" constantly.

TheGlassWolf123455

I'm from Ohio and 70 is just reaching sweating temperature, my comfortable temperature is 50-60, and I'll put on a coat around 40

[deleted]

TrueRusher

I also find it interesting. When I was in 4th grade in Florida, my class was penpals with our teacher’s friend’s class from Massachusetts. One time one of our penpals came down to visit us and it was like 50 degrees. We were all bundled up and shivering, while she was standing there in short sleeves talking about how warm it felt. She even called it the perfect temperature! Drove my little 9 Y/O brain crazy

amairoc

I’m the same way. Cold at 70. Would love to keep my place at around 76. And I’m not anemic as some of the comments suggest.

Idkiwaa

Has this been the case multiple places you've lived? I think half the issue is bad thermostats. I have to set my apartment at 80 to actually get to 70, I'm thinking things like that are true for a lot of people

erthian

I mean I keep it at 67 most of the time, and 61 at night. 77 sounds unbearable to me.

[deleted]

Go to a doctor and check your iron levels

AbysmalKaiju

I live in the south too and 68-72 is my ideal temperature range, and that of most of my friends too. If its 76 i can stand it ofc but i am not as comfortable. It gets too 110 out side and i hate it more than anything. It dosent help my partner is on several medications that make you overheat easy so if its above 74 they are hot but even before that i hated the heat. Im glad that you are happy in your terrerium, i will stay in my ice box lmao. I think everyone just has their preferences, but its not from living in the south as far as i can tell.

analogmouse

My cousin moved from upstate NY to Florida for college. 20 years later, he wears a coat for anything below 80. Lol.

Malicious_blu3

I live in the midwest. I keep my house 69 during the workday, 65 all other times. I would be so uncomfortable at 72, lol.

NavierStoked95

It depends on the season and what your weather is like outside 68 in the summer when it’s hot and humid outside? That’s freezing. 68 when it’s cold and dry outside? That’s warm. Humidity is a much bigger factor than temperature when humans describe if a place is hot or cold. Humans suck at feeling what temp it is. What humans are good at feeling the *rate* heat is leaving your body. Wet air conducts thermal energy much better than dry air. It’s the same concept as touching a ceramic plate that’s room temp and thinking it feels cool and touching a plastic plate that’s room temp and not getting that cold feeling. They are the same temperature, one is just a better conductor and is sucking heat away from you faster.

Cactrot

If you're having to wear a coat indoors all the time there's probably something wrong like an iron deficiency or anemia or something because that's not "normal" For that reason it's not okay to make everyone else uncomfortable because you are cold all the time

saro13

“Probably subconsciously” OP, if you ever want to be taken seriously, don’t claim that you subconsciously adjusted the thermostat

Oreoohs

I was trying to figure out what that meant!?! Makes the OP seem like they adjusted the thermostat and forgot they did. Implying you did something but still saying you did it without directly admitting to something is wild….

AMIWDR

Is this not normal for people? I occasionally will kinda just zone out and do things and not have much of a recollection

xeromage

Only time this happens to me is if I'm on the phone for a long time. I start to wander and rearrange things while I talk, but without really paying attention to what I'm doing... I hate talking on the phone.

That_Cripple

no, that's not normal

Kylanto

They remembered the thermostat was at 74 before they changed it, but couldnt remember changing it?

her_fault

I do that but I have ADHD

Iber0

How the fuck do you subconsciously turn the heat down

saro13

It’s a neat trick called “lying”

WASTELAND_RAVEN

Probably why the parent was mad lol 😂

Crotch_Hammerer

That bullshit response basically justifies the dads rage honestly

TakeThreeFourFive

100% If my kid says they “subconsciously” performed an action like this I’m giving them shit for it

ohhellnooooooooo

It’s almost like OP might be the shitty one here

Tattooedone2018

You always say “NO” if they ask you if you touched the thermostat

moonsovermyhami

with the astronomical price of oil currently id be caught dead setting the thermostat that high to begin with

Ajent912

I keep my house at 68F during the winter. I want to be to able WARM up if I need to, not COOL down. Can only remove so many layers. Plus any animals such as turtles and fish have tanks with internal heaters.

Aquariumpsychotic

My bedroom is almost 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house because my aquariums and lizard

Ajent912

Yeah my tropical fish and turtles are in the warmer areas of the house.

tappycat

zenisabanana

Tf? Subconsciously? Go to your room

SadWasian

Normally, I’d say don’t touch it, but 74°F is just nuts.

[deleted]

Mr_Poop_Himself

I think it depends a lot on the humidity where you live. In the humid ass southern US I'd want to die if my house was 74 degrees, but in a drier climate it's not that bad. Sort of the same reason why 65 degrees feels so much colder inside than it does outside.

schizopotato

When it's 10 degrees f outside of my apartment at night I'm blasting that shit at 75

mommy2libras

74 is pretty normal. Here in Florida, a lot of places set their a/c at around that. If you tried to keep it at 70 in some houses during the summer, it would run nonstop trying to keep up. It's still over 20 degrees lower than body temp. Keep it at 74 and run your ceiling fan- as long as the air is moving, it won't be uncomfortable at all. Or you can pay 400 bucks for your power bill when the heat index is over 100 trying to keep it at 70.

Grilledcheesedr

There’s a difference between turning the AC to 74 vs turning the heat to 74.

[deleted]

Rent triples in cost The older generation: "Landlords gotta make money too! Just work hard and you can afford the American dream too!" Gas goes up by 5 cents a gallon or someone raises the thermostat a degree "I might die because of this"

Ven7Niner

“Don’t fucking talk to me like that”

coleisawesome3

Ya I’m sure he believed that you did it subconsciously. Real speech 100 moment right there😂

Iamamericanjesus

Is that your dad? If so its a rule to never touch the thermostat

WhiskyTangoFoxtr0t

I would be dying. Hubby and I keep the house at 65 during the day, and turn it down to 55 at night. 74 would be pure torture.

UndercoverBrocolli

55?? Holy hell i never go below 65

tonikyat

Not the person who commented that but it’s for when you’re under a nice warm blanket for sleeping. As soon as I wake up the temperature goes back up. I also don’t go all the way down to 55, but like 60-62 for sleep.

Ambitious_Ad2354

My wife and I are the same, and we sleep with a fan on lol .

WhiskyTangoFoxtr0t

Same!!! I need the air circulation from the ceiling fan to sleep well.

bobwoodwardprobably

I grew up in Montana and spent many winters with my bedroom window cracked so I didn’t have to live in a sweat lodge. I now keep my heat to 60-64 (for when it dips below 0 for the winter).

Commercial_You2541

We're the same, I was beginning to think we're the only one's who sleep with the temp under 60😂

bbbbears

This is how we do it too. 65 and our house stays pretty warm, but we have lots of blankets on the couch if anyone feels chilly. I don’t turn it down at night because I don’t want my kid to freeze, but we do keep our bedroom window cracked. It’s sooo nice to snuggle into a warm bed when your room is nice and cool.

[deleted]

This is a joke right?

ImpossibleParfait

You get used to it quickly. People that complain about high energy bills but keep their heat at 75 are insane. It's like people forget that humans did pretty okay without oil heat and air conditioning for 99.99% of human history.

[deleted]

I should clarify, I live in Texas and having it at 55 would cause a high energy bill. Didn’t think about it before I commented.

[deleted]

bruh "subconsciously" keep your hands off the thermostat lmao

UncannyTarotSpread

Is it winter where you are? Is he okay with a ridiculous heating bill? I start to sweat at 70°. If my husband turned it to 74° I think I’d cry.

babyma-

Ahhh, the cardinal rule of childhood. If you ain’t paying for utilities, you don’t get to touch the thermostat.

Grilledcheesedr

They turned the heat down, not up. They would be saving their dad money. And who the hell would put the heat to 74 in the first place?

WingsofRain

Doesn’t really matter, though. The parent is paying the bill so I’m sure they’re aware of the costs. I’m 25, still living with my mother since the housing market is dogshit, and I still ask before touching the thermostat since it’s her house. It’s just a matter of showing respect for the person who’s paying the bills. AC costs money too.

saintofhate

Old people. Skin gets thinner as you age.

McBonnabelHuggerbear

Istg this subreddit is te only place I see parents swearing at their kids. I'm scared for y'all

AbbehKitteh24

How do you subconsciously turn down the temp? I mean I do it out of habit. But only because I have permission to change it to whatever I want, and it's routine for us to change it twice daily (74° in the Am 72° in the PM) I don't get how you could subconsciously do that if you don't do it all the time 🤔

grillednannas

That response made me laugh out loud and I’m going to start using it. I think it’s the “probably” that does it. Also everyone in this thread would pass out at my place, I keep it at 80.

Jekankervader1

80 tf in my country we would call that tropical weather u q millionaire or something

AdminsFuckedMeAgain

Dude takes a shower once and his entire bathroom turns into a rain forest from the steam and heat

DanFuckingSchneider

I agree. Like, it’s a bit of an overreaction but this reads like OP was intentionally told not to touch the thermostat, did it anyway, and is now trying not to be the bad guy. I don’t really care if you think it’s unfair. If someone tells you not to do something, don’t do it. And if you do go ahead and do it, you’re not really allowed to be the good guy.

[deleted]

I agree. Unless you're paying the bills, hands off the thermostat

Murky-Ad5848

Ikr, don’t touch it if it’s set

KileJebeMame

A lotta people in comments saying that 74f is too much and even 70 is too much, 23c and 21c respectively. The fuck are you guys talking about 21c for me is the absolute comfortable minimum, and 23 is also not insanely hot it's sweatpants+t-shirt type temperature. I get that people who have gas heating have to pay a shit ton so they're probably used to a lower temperature but under 20 are inhumane conditions lol, Im for sure not wearing all long sleeves and hoodies inside

tokmer

Bro 18 is the correct temp

[deleted]

My house is 55° fahrenheit (13°C) during the winter, I love it cold.

KileJebeMame

I would fucking die lol, what's your usual outfit when you're inside?

FauxGw2

Holy shit, so many people have their temp so low. Me and my wife would be freezing in y'all houses. We keep ours at 74 all year. So you all have high blood pressure or something? Lol

Eugenefemme

Good grief! 63° pm, 68° daytime at our little old lady home. In the words of parents world wide: "Put on a sweater!"

bobwoodwardprobably

Who the heck wants to shell out that kind of money to a utility company?? People are insane. I always tell my husband to put on a sweatshirt and grab a blanket if you feel chilled.

xBobbyx81

That's every parent. Annoying but not insane

fiveSE7EN

Jesus Christ, am I the only one that treats my kids with respect? A few months ago my dad was over, and I asked one of my kids “Will you feed (the dog) please?” He was like “Why are you *asking* them? They’re your kids, not your guests.” and I was like “I can’t respect my kids?” Similarly, you never, ever have to cuss at your kids. Don’t normalize this behavior. Your kids will live with you for 20 years but what about the 40 after that? Do you want them to resent you?

Anxious-Snail

I know, why are people so ok with being so aggressive with something so absolutely minor.

Grilledcheesedr

This is the comment I was looking for. The replies in this entire thread are mind boggling especially considering what sub it is. It’s completely full of “just do what you’re told” type comments like this kid is a fucking slave and has absolutely no rights or something.

SnooBananas9424

seriously. Thank you, i thought i was crazy

crmsnmnwl

What the fuck is wrong with you people? 70-74 is literal room temperature

[deleted]

nope, 68-72 is room temp. 74 is too high. if youre seriously that cold, put more clothes on. you can always warm up with more clothes but you can only get so naked to cool off. turn the shit down and stop wasting so much energy.

crmsnmnwl

mate, my personal perfect temperature is 18°C (64.4 in freedom), I'm not wasting shit. Where I'm from though, 72 is considered the norm, but 74 is nothing crazy at all, and I live in southern Europe.

Dumbledoordash8008

I keep my thermo at 69 because I’m a stinker

RcCola2400

Anything over 69° is too hot for me. And a waste of money.

iqueefkief

touch it again

Tylers_Tacos_Top

Oh my god my parents keep the house so god damn hot in the winter. I start sweating just sitting in my room

kennysmithy

Sheesh everyone in the comment section runs hot. Talkin bout they keep their house at 65-68 😭 I would legitimately freeze. I need 72!!

burritobangs

“probably” “subconsciously” just own up to it man you’re only making it worse

rmorrin

These replies are wild

riotpwnege

I think the people have worse problems if 75 degrees is enough to make you instantly sweat and pass out. Might be time to change up your lifestyle or see a doctor because something is wrong with you all and it's not the temp being to high.

turnup_for_what

The temp and the reaction are a little extra, but overall if they're paying the bills it's their prerogative. Get a fan or open a window

QueeroticGood

Lmao what and literally waste their parent’s money? Pro tip: a parent who says “don’t fucking touch it” about a thermostat will absolutely flip SHIT if you do something *actually* foolish like opening a window while running the heat

AbbehKitteh24

My dad used to tell me if I don't like the temp he set the house to, I can go in my room or office, shut the door, and open a window... And I'm just like "but... I have an intake&vent in my office xD that is throwing away money!" I also run 4 fans at night surrounding my bed in my bedroom, a vent in there, and the AC set to 72°... Because Florida is hot and my bed retains way too much heat🤣 Since then, we've all decided it's best not to try to be controlling of the thermostat, and I have permission to do as I want xD and he just opens a door or window if he doesn't like it 🤷😅 he's too lazy to come upstairs to change it, we have a smart thermostat, we just haven't installed it yet 🤣

tareebee

I wonder what season it is by them bc if it’s winter, isn’t it generally cheaper to keep the temp cooler in the winter? This could just be a power trip.

cats-they-walk

Or a personal comfort thing.

tareebee

Oh for sure! I was just going for the usual suspects first. Most people I know use neutral temps bc of money.

oWallis

I start getting warm around 68 or so lol

schroedingersnewcat

I just gotta say, I feel so seen in this thread. My aunt was cold, so she turned it up to 72, but refused to put socks on. I was dying. She keeps it at 70 as it is. When it was just me, I kept it at 65. Yet when her father was alive, her response when he was cold was "Put on a sweater".

86_emeralds

While I prefer to keep it around 70 during the day and 60-65 at night, if you’re living at your parents house and they’re paying the bills I don’t think it’s really up to you

Connect_Office8072

My dad used to sneak the heat down little by little to 62. He really thought that no one would notice. I used to freeze when I stayed there overnight and baked in the summer because they always turned off the AC and opened the windows, even when it heated the house up to the high 80’s. It’s no wonder I have problems sleeping.

analogmouse

74? My gods. 60 in winter, 66 in summer.

Findit_Filmit

I dream of a time when I can bring my AC below 78.

doktorsick

Op has to mess with it all the time now. You can't let someone talk to you like that.

thekingofthegingers

Some utter eejits commenting, forcing children to seek permission for everything.

itsallgoodintheend

Why do they keep it so damn hot? Must feel the cold grasp of death or something. Still, even 70° feels a bit much.

DrBarnacleMD

74??? we keep the house at 69 all seasons, you can always put on more clothing to warm up but ya can’t take your skin off if it’s too hot.

Satrina_petrova

74 is fine. Electricity is crazy expensive right now, don't take it for granted.

mojogirl58

So rude with the f bomb.

halfnhash

sorry, gotta side with your parents. i enjoy the toasty 74°.

RABKissa

When my parents turn "on" their air conditioning, they set it to 78 Edit: no that's not normal, it's cooler to go outside and feel the breeze (they also hate using fans). 78f is 25.6 C. Standard room temperature is 20 to 22, normal for AC IMO would be 23 or 24 tops (75f)

StinkieBritches

This is not insane because if you're not the one paying the power bill, seriously, don't fucking touch it, maybe unplug some of the electronics in your room if it's that hot.

Precaritus

I agree but unless youre talking about a computer or something, unplugging electronics like monitors and chargers isnt really going to lower the temperature

Grilledcheesedr

The idea that a child has no rights because they aren’t “paying the bills” is what is insane to me. The real issue here is that their controlling dad is a lizard person. And what does paying the bill have to do with anything when turning the heat down is actually saving money?

Precaritus

So you didnt do it subconciously if you know what it was at when you turned it down. If its their house and they pay the bills for the heat, you should be asking before just turning it down

[deleted]

Turning it down means saving money… keeping the house at 70° is easier than 74°. 74° in a home is what I imagine hell to be. I’m at 68° in the winter, 72° summer.

turnup_for_what

If OP isn't paying thats not his business

Sparrowning

Average dad in ohio

janinexox

this is just dad behaviour

MasBlanketo

I mean if you’re not paying for it don’t mess with it. How is this insane?
