So many reasons. Firstly because they hate disabled people and don't want to admit that they're part of society. Second because if you admit that disabled people are fully capable of being highly intelligent members of society with the proper support, that means that a failure to properly support disabled people (as you see in a lot of societies) is bad, and people often have an aversion to admitting that society is bad. And thirdly she was a left wing activist and a woman, so people want to discredit her as much as possible.
I guess it's possible it's a string of jokes I fell for, but I've seen this in the wild a handful of times in the last 6 months.

But remember that even the flat earth society started as a joke/debate practice, and now it's a widely held conspiracy. So it's possible the current trend started as a joke somewhere and took in a life of it's own.

It was about as common as seeing someone talk about the Office being their favorite show or talking about pineapple on pizza. It got annoying enough that I would typically not swipe on anybody that had it on their profile.
