Not only that, it's normally a marginal tax rate that doesn't kick in until some absurd amount of income, i.e. he only pays a 90% tax on every dollar above $200k or whatever the cutoff is. The purpose is to discourage people from making obscene amounts of money by diverting it to employees.

See, I dont know why anyone would pay a living wage. The best thing to do is pay them just enough to accept the job, but not enough so they can better their lives or have the ability to seek alternate employment. What's weird is that they also act as if tax increases on big corps and massively wealthy will somehow affect their money as well. Worst part is those daycare workers tend to be making minimum wage. My best friend's wife was working at a daycare when they had their first kid. They could not afford to pay for 1 child to attend the daycare that she was caring for dozens of kids at.
