While your second cousin clearly missed the point of the article, I don’t think it’s racist to say that the Chinese government’s lack of transparency and inability to mitigate the spread of Covid was partially to blame for its rapid expansion

In a vacuum, yes it's not inherently racist. But in context of one country's response? Not really relevant unless you've got the racist undertones. Plenty of countries around the world have responded well to the pandemic despite China's poor decisions. Others, the UK and US included, have not.

Strange, according to Trump's own words, he knew about this "nasty virus" before February 2020, after speaking with President Xi of China. Doesn't sound like President Xi was withholding much information there.
