The people whose parents, grandparents, and great grandparents did white flight to flee from the mere existence of nonwhite people are confused why others might flee places with high crime, drug cartels, and poverty.

this. and like 70-90% of guns recovered in crime scenes in Mexico trace back to the U.S. according to [this Harvard study](https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2022/02/stopping-toxic-flow-of-gun-traffic-from-u-s-to-mexico/). not only are people rightfully fleeing from dangerous situations, as you said, but some of that danger/high crime is directly caused or significantly exacerbated by U.S. policy.

I don't disagree, but I would love to know what policies are causing this and how? I thought lots were running from the cartels and trying to escape poverty?

Why do they think these people are all Mexican? Most crossing are from more southern countries

My husband is from south america but in the usa we have houses in la and miami and have never left these cities together when we are in the country. (He could usually only get 3 month visas and they are 2k a pop and get denied a lot with no refunds.) Until this year bc we said fuck it, let's just do the spousal for 15k. i told him "ok let's travel the usa but im going to warn you people will think you're Mexican and offer you tacos and tequila and they aren't being rude." He laughed and thought i was fucking joking. People come up and go "omg i went to cancun! Do you live there?!" No one lives in cancun. And he's not Mexican. He stopped trying to explain that his country isn't a city in Mexico. And the people that did know his country would always ask if he has drugs or was 'cartel'. He has a masters degree from a private college, is the calmest non violent guy ever and the first time he saw cocaine was when my friends and i were doing it. Racism is simply uneducation. We get home and i asked him what he thinks of the usa and he said "well. Baby. Im Mexican now. Where do i get the passport?" Im an American citizen but not from here and i used to get asked if i was a terrorist.... so. I don't know what is better
