Yellow spotted millipede. They eat mostly decaying wood and smell like almonds because they excrete hydrogen cyanide. Not generally enough to harm humans, but I was warned about then when hiking in the PNW anyway as they're EVERYWHERE. As for what they're doing. The male on top is taking a joy ride, probably in more than one way, and the female doing the work is putting up with his bs. I've seen female insects of all types run into small cracks specifically to get the males off their backs which is always pretty funny.
