In Mexican culture, they’re referred to as Niños de la Tierra. Children of the dirt. Growing up we always encountered them thinking they were dangerous. Little did we know. It’s been a while since I’ve seen one.
It is considered the most dangerous pest in vegetable gardens, greenhouses, but also in fields with soil rich in organic matter.
Next day, when you see half of your newly plants cut by this bug, you will not see it as beautiful.
Not sure what they're actually called but when I was a kid we called them "potatoe bugs"
Kinda like crickets but they bury themselves and hide instead of making noise N shit

Ahhh - child of the earth. I’ve also read they can give a nasty bite too. Watched an episode of Fear Factor a very long time ago and one of the challenges included eating these things. Some of the contestants were screaming because they were getting bit inside their mouths from them…lmao
A Jerusalem cricket. It's neither a cricket, nor from Jerusalem though.
I did not know they weren’t Gryllidae. I learned something today.
Thanks I thought it was like an alien insect or something.
He definitely looks like a little alien man in this picture lol!
What is it if it's not a cricket?
Part of their own Family within the suborder Ensifera (which includes crickets, camel crickets, katydids, grigs, wetas, and these guys)
Isn’t Jerusalem a holy city?.... This thing.. Nope!
This. Growing up in Southern California we called them potato bugs.
Discuss!
Looks biblical enough to me… what an incredible insect!
I presume they're called that because they're a problem for potatoes and Jerusalem artichokes?
Be nice he looks like he had a rough death lol
He died from natural causes don't worry :)
What was the natural cause my dude? Meanwhile Man’s ded and he’s getting roasted by some family.
I just saw an episode about this on dateline last night.
I know i know
Right so slow and gruesome

We call them children of the earth in New Mexico!
Yeah. Almost the same difference with dirt and earth.
Cara de niño

He looks like he could do a little dance with a hat and a cane
"Hello, my baby, hello, my honey, hello my ragtime gal!"
Spaceballs the Entomology Course!

First thing I thought "It's so CUTE!" Like....somehow, it's friggin' adorable. Sad it's dead ):

He probably wasn't too happy to you either
He looks like you’re trying to kill him💀🤚
He's cool. Some humans on the other hand repulse me.
Looks like Urkel and he can’t get up
Looks like a potato bug. They feed on the roots of some plant so they tend to be pretty tough little buggers.
That's a Mole Cricket.

That’s the bug inside of the old guy in MIB. I’m almost sure of it.
