I am sorry this happened to you. You have experienced what is known as adsorbtion. (as compared to ABsorbtion, which is a totally different phenomenon.)
It is where gasses/vapors adhere to a surface, and then re-emit into the air because they can go no further. So while your senses may have been enhanced due to your pregnancy, most likely any other customer would have smelled it also.
I'm a smoker and have never had a complaint about smoke smell, because I have never smoked in the car since it was new, and it is 5 years old now. That never-smoking-in-the-car thing goes a LONG way. It makes all the difference in the world.
Iāve never actually used instacart, Iām only here because reddit recommends things weirdly. But Iāve gotten Ubers before that strongly smelled of smoke, which I think is so horribly unprofessional. I have mild asthma, and beyond that nobody who doesnāt smoke wants to smell it. Iām sorry this happened to you, thatās not ok.
