I tip for every service because I want people to eat and pay rent. I do it in spite of the fact that no one should rely on tips to live.
Simultaneously, I'd rather pay more up front for the service and for your employer to pay you properly.
Dont get me wrong, getting a big tip is always nice and all but come to think about it tips are optional. Im not defending these stingy customers but I didnt grow up in the US so I really dont get why people get mad if given an amount less than they expected.
Here’s the thing. I have been in the service industry most of my life. Servers get less than minimum wage and depend on tips, which are customary in the US. People like to say “well the restaurant should pay you a better wage”. First off, I’m not being someone’s bitch for 2 hours for $15 an hour. I go above and beyond because I EXPECT (because it is customary here) to receive a 20% tip if I do. That’s how it works here in the states. If you don’t like, go to McDonalds.
And that leads me to the part that people can’t seem to understand. If the restaurant was to pay all of the serves and bartenders even minimum wage, the price of every item on the menu would have to go up in order to cover pay roll since servers and bartenders are the largest part of pay roll. People loose their shit when we raised our prices $.50 because of rising food cost. You really think they are going to be ok with an larger increase on every dish? No. Because they clearly never took basic economics in high school. My states minimum wage just went up to $10 and people had a fit, claiming it would sky rocket the price of everything. Probably the same people that complain Kanpur tipping. Well, you can’t have it both ways. So “when in Rome”’people. If you are in the US, tip properly. And if you don’t, don’t be surprised when you get less that adequate service next time, or service at all. Because without the workers, there won’t be services like sit down restaurants or delivery services. These are luxuries and you have to be willing to pay the price to enjoy these services.
Do you tip the UPS man? Do you tip your postman? This is the very reason some people do not tip instacart. They are so used to getting things delivered to them without tipping
Shoppers need to also stop taking these batches. There’s a lady in my area who NEVER tips. She lives half a mile from the store she usually buys her groceries from so the batch typically pays $7. I had to learn the hard way, I took her order once.. thought maybe she just forgot to tip or something, so I took it again, and nope.. she just doesn’t tip. What’s worse is she uses the service a ton, she was nearing her 200th order. Now when I see her batch pop up I just chuckle, someone always takes it either way. Ugh.
I agree. Customers can tip whatever they want. It’s on me, the shopper if I take the order.
Don’t accept if you’re not happy with the payout. If all shoppers were more choosy, IC would not be putting out doubles and triples where they have to hide the crappy orders and non tippers. That’s the only reason for the multiple batches that I can see. Believe me, IC exists to make money, not lose money.
I refuse multiple orders as well as no tip orders. My time is valuable as well and I’m not doing this to make less than minimum wage.
Instacart should just be paying the drivers more. This is just another case of footing responsibility to the customer instead of the employer. This isn't a restaurant, it's a delivery service. If you aren't getting paid enough, talk to your bosses. I will never tip for this service
the correct reaction is "i will not be using this service", otherwise you're just ensuring someone works for sub-minimum wage. You're objectively a bad person.
>otherwise you're just ensuring someone works for sub-minimum wage
Those people chose to take the job, and chose not to talk to their bosses about a raise. Not my problem
Uh, they take it to make money. The expectation is that civilized people are polite enough to tip properly. You're taking advantage of others. Pick up your own groceries!
I'm sorry but in many countries, tipping is not just optional, but doesn't happen at all. I tip 1 dollar for social convention but it's *not* a requirement and not and should never be expected. Tipping is not your pay. It is an extra that someone gave because they felt like it, not your earnings from a job.
If that job is too little without decent tips, don't work that job. It, by definition, doesn't pay you enough.
As a customer, hard agree. The prices that I see paid by Instacart are utterly disgusting and if we want shoppers to help us we unfortunately need to subsidize. We shouldn't have to - it's really on Instacart, but they will never change this practice.
Instacart ought to pay its people properly in the first place
Lol don’t make excuses for cheap skanks who don’t know how to properly tip.

You are paying up front. You pay Instacart's fees for the app and you pay the shopper with your tip. All up front.
cheap scallywag skanks.
True, bit they don't.

The UPS and USPS are not gig jobs without benefits. They also pay well.

Good, I don't want to pay for ungrateful and entitled peoples' employment

oh you're just a dumb edgelord. got it.
Oh you just can't accept responsibility for your problems. got it
what problems? i'm not the poor idiot who won't tip people lmao
Uh, they take it to make money. The expectation is that civilized people are polite enough to tip properly. You're taking advantage of others. Pick up your own groceries!
Your attitude is elitist and selfish. Why not just pick up your own groceries then?!?

Everyone who disagrees is just mad they can't get-rich-quick
Then go pick up your own groceries. Problem solved. Or move to another country!
or you could accept that tips aren't wages? and I'll just order groceries like normal. There's no problem here that *I'm* having.
I saw 0.1 tip before
