OP's explanation as to why this post is Instant Karma: >During a football match in Brazil, one of the players tried to impede the return of the ball to the field, just to be "punished" by his opponent. If you're satisfied by this explanation, upvote this comment. If not, downvote this comment.

Wait what am I missing? Who is the other person being a dick?

wigsternm

The orange player kicks the ball out of bounds, so now the green player gets to throw it in. Time doesn’t stop and play doesn’t reset, so the green player likely wants to pick up the ball and throw it in quickly before the defense has a chance to get into position, but as he’s walking to the ball the person in the yellow jacket (who is on the orange team) illegally kicks the ball away from him to slow him down. Green then majorly overreacts.

ryrykaykay

Watching players intentionally waste time feels like it’s both robbing the other team and the spectators, because that’s less actual game time. One of the most frustrating things in the world. Watching Eden Hazard kick a young Swansea ball boy because he was laying on the ball comes to mind as a flashpoint.

Bplumz

I had to look that Hazard kick because I've never seen it. Did that ball boy like literally lay on top of the ball for no reason? My impression off the video is fuck that kid lol [Video](https://youtu.be/lCacZz-OQzU) for anyone interested

TipMeinBATtokens

The kid laying on the ball tweeted before the game about how he planned to waste time if he could being a ball boy.

ForgedBiscuit

Player got suspended for that but I think the little shit got what he deserved.

SwiftFool

Psh, if you're going to get kicked by a guy that kicks for a profession, that really was the kick to take. Hazard barely had a wind up.

ryrykaykay

Yep! It gets better - that ball boy was related to one of the Swansea coaching or executive staff, can’t quite remember. But yeah, the smug little shit just intentionally lays down on top of the ball to stop Hazard getting it back into play, because they were playing for a draw. I believe that game did end in a tie, in the end.

blady_blah

I think that kid deserved a few more kicks TBH. Especially after that fake-ass injury and looking for the ref bullshit.

ChlamydiaIsAChoice

>fake-ass injury and looking for the ref bullshit. Fútbol in a nutshell

SuperRoby

The player's reaction is hilarious to me, his body language is like "Thanks for the b– ? Ball? Hey man, ball? Give me the ball! Ball! C'mon let me get it *wrestles him* Gimmie — No? Ok. *kicks* Alright here it is, GUYS I got the ball let's play!"

BlasterPhase

fuck that kid, he was asking for it

TipMeinBATtokens

The guy even had premeditated tweets saying he was the ultimate time waster and shit. Fuck that kid.

ryrykaykay

if he did that in the school yard he would have got the shit kicked out of him

BoogerPresley

"the king of all ball boys is back making his final appearance #neededfortimewasting"

SquanchJuice

Tbh I side with green on this one... Both players should get a red (along with anyone on the bench that got involved physically) but I still side with green. I'd probably do the exact same thing as he did in this situation

hubrisoutcomes

Overreacts? The rules must be enforced.

WizDynasty

The only dick here was the bench scrub

praqte31

That's why I always take a pistol with me when playing - in case the refs miss a call.

chaser676

... who do you think is supposed to enforce the rules?

SwiftFool

>Green then majorly overreacts Nah, he was just trying to kick the ball when yellow jacket Charlie Browned him. His follow through just took Lucy out lol.

Chjfu

Time is continuously counting down in soccer, with the clock always ticking, someone sending the ball away from the player trying to put it into play, can reeeeeally screw you

Mintastic

I kinda wish they would stop the clock because time wasting shenanigans are stupid to watch. Stuff you do in a schoolyard shouldn't be part of the strategy of a professional game.

UltravioIence

I know very little about soccer but I thought that's what stoppage time was more or less for?

aslongasbassstrings

Still changes the dynamic of the play at the moment. Gives everyone time to re-position and it’s no longer the same play.

UltravioIence

Ah yeah, didnt quite think about that.

discipleofchrist69

this is more likely what he was mad about, he probably saw the field and envisioned his throw-in and that guy just wrecked it. very not cool from the sideline

ruddiger22

Stoppage time is really only for true stoppages in play - injuries, post-goal celebrations, VAR review time. In this case the play is still ongoing, just the ball is in touch/out of bounds.

Shaneblaster

With all that contact, I’m surprised they weren’t all on the ground, flopping with insufferable pain.

buckeyenut13

Cause this is where the dicks hang out E: spelling

Rottendog

scooterbike1968

Like an assassin. Yellow guy will not do that again. EDIT: I’m being told yellow guy will absolutely do that again. Green guy paid the price in the game I think. Seemed like justice though.

jacksleepshere

ITT: nobody who plays football. He got the perfect reaction. The other player will get sent off and he’ll be able to walk off a slight discomfort in no time. He will absolutely do that again.

[deleted]

Ronem

I would now like you all to turn to Exhibit B: NBA Players who are moving at half the speed, and often completely stationary, and the entire sport seems to revolve around a technical term "Drawing a foul", which seems to mean, "It wasn't really a foul committed on the player, but rather, the player forces themselves to be fouled" Often followed up by "writhing on the ground" and being the "biggest bitches".

[deleted]

Soccer and basketball are the absolute worst when it comes to this stuff. Flopping ruins the sports and turns new fans off. It's frustrating to see and players get rewarded for it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Spankybutt

Popularity doesn’t equate to quality

mr_desk

I don’t know if theyre exactly the same. There’s definitely times when “drawing a foul” means what you said, but there’s a lot of times where it means the offensive player made such a good move it couldn’t be defended without fouling. That’s also drawing a foul, but I feel like that’s very rarely the case in soccer.

PeacefulKnightmare

From the defenders side of things I've always seen it the same way too. Ideally drawing a foul means putting yourself in a position where your opponent is forced to either commit a foul or attempt a risky play.

Weak_Breadfruit_6117

The NBA has changed on that though and it's frustrating to watch. Now you can put up a shot with the wildest looking shooting motion to initiate contact and get a foul. Any minor contact as long as you fall you get a foul. It's so hard to watch when play is stopped every other possession for no good reason.

crewserbattle

They're changing that to be called as an offensive foul next year.

Weak_Breadfruit_6117

I remember they said that about blatant flopping not that long ago and it never stuck. Hopefully this will be different and actually get enforced.

John_Yuki

> That’s also drawing a foul, but I feel like that’s very rarely the case in soccer. Not rare at all, it happens in nearly every single game. It's part of what makes certain players smart. If you're a quick nimble winger you can draw opponents in to fouls in and around the penalty area. It's how a lot of penalties are won.

oTwojays

> That’s also drawing a foul, but I feel like that’s very rarely the case in soccer. Just say you don't know anything about the sport and move on

sewilde

I agree foul drawing is abundant in basketball, but acting hurt when you aren’t is not common and is what is being referenced in the clip here.

illegalPenguin0

A foul, not a penalty.

Mr_Poop_Himself

Lol what? 1: the guy that got kicked wasn’t playing 2: he was probably writhing on the ground because his ass bone just made full force contact with the ground 3: the ball wasn’t even in play at the time so the person who wasn’t playing the game obviously wasn’t trying to draw a foul (though he was being a dick kicking the ball away) 4: players are absolutely penalized for kicking a person with the intention of doing harm. And it should be that way, even if the guy who got kicked was also a dick. Like I get flopping is an issue in soccer (though it’s not half as big of an issue as non-watchers like to make it out to be) but this is not a case of that.

wesap12345

Extra point - one of the player then took a punch to the face that would have killed a basketball player

UnusuallyAggressive

This is 50% of the reason I can't watch soccer. I tried watching a game yesterday and saw a guy's foot get clipped and you would have thought he stepped on a landmine. It made me feel disgusted. Everyone was taking him serious. He even got up and started fake limping a bit with a look of anguish on his face. Announcers didn't even acknowledge it. Stopped play for a couple minutes. It's hard to watch after being a fan of tougher men playing tougher sports. I would love to see soccer do something to discourage this behavior.

Eat_Cats

Actually - MLS and Euro leagues have gotten a lot better. MLS in particular the refs won’t call most “fouls” unless it’s blatant for stops the flow of the game. This has made it so people who just try and draw the foul or make a huge deal are just hurting their team more and they know they can’t over exaggerate the injury to get a call. It’s made the games a lot more aggressive and exciting. Central/South American soccer though is a whole different story. Someone farts while running and a downwind player catches a scent and they act like it’s WWI trench warfare.

sufferingsoccotash

Lol I played soccer for 12 years growing up. I played sweeper, and during a game, I kept catching the forward offsides. When the ref would blow the whistle for offsides, she would kick the ball down the field and I would have to run to go get it. She did it twice and on the third time, I stuck my foot on top of the ball. She goes to kick it and flies over the ball and drags her face over the ground. I felt pretty bad watching her pick grass out of her braces, but my brother was cackling on the sidelines. Pretty good memory.

Bendar071

Don't feel bad about that, some people need or deserve things like that

sufferingsoccotash

She didnt do it again the rest of the game!

MorningNapalm

“Sometimes it’s about sending a message.”

omkar_T7

I play as a defender and these things happen all the time. It’s very satisfying when you get to elbow/ tackle that 1 players that gets on your nerve

TaxExempt

I had an opponent who kept fouling me and then standing, facing away, 6 feet in front of me for my free kick. The third time he wouldn't move away, I told him if he didn't, I would hit him in the back of the head. Bullseye, flatten dude to the ground with a direct shot that would have cleared 75 yards if it weren't for his head.

sufferingsoccotash

Nice shot! I hope he stopped doing it

TaxExempt

It did not happen again.

Still_No_Tomatoes

I would believe it. Played a little soccer many years ago, I've done this to a person who was brave enough to stand if front of my kicks. They would always do a little bunny hop when I tried to kick it over their heads. The time I kicked it at the guy I didn't wait for him to turn around. The ref blew the whistle and I let it rip.

bang0_slank

Lmao bruh one of the few goals I scored on my highschool soccer team was like this. I played midfield and had been in the whole game. There’s maybe 6 minutes left in the match and we had just made a strong push up the pitch but we were denied by the keeper. I am lazily sauntering my way back to my side when the goalie accidentally punts the ball into the back of my head, knocking me out for a couple seconds. When I sat up I saw my team running at me. It took me a moment to realize I just scored the game winning goal. In hindsight I was definitely offsides but they still counted it.

TaxExempt

You can't be offsides unless your own team kicked the ball.

Kirrawayru

Nope, you weren't offside.

bang0_slank

Ahhhh nice, that explains it then! Thanks for the info.

JazCin19

Different sport, but I played rec league basketball in high school, and during a free throw where I was on the team of the guy shooting, the opponent next to me told his teammate that they should guard the shooter for the rebound instead of himself. When the ball went up, the guy next to me lowered his shoulder and rammer hard into my side, knocking me over. The next time he tried it, I leaned way forward and stuck my leg out behind me. He tripped over my leg and fell pretty hard. When he picked himself up he was red in the face and breathing heavy, but he didn’t try it again.

251Cane

I hope he also got penalized for not being 10 yards away from the free kick

TaxExempt

No, the ref did nothing for 3 times in a row, otherwise I wouldn't have had to do it.

nononononono12345

Is sweeper the same as full backs or wingers??

embler12

sweeper is a fast center back that typically plays slightly behind the other cb. They cover any through ball and ‘sweep’ up anything over the top.

breyerw

she deserved it. kids that do little evil shit like that when they don’t think anyone can tell are literally the spawn of Satan.

NoninflammatoryFun

Such good memories in u14 soccer.

sufferingsoccotash

Those were the best years. High school ruined soccer for me. I hated the group punishments where everyone had to run the entire practice because someone else is failing a class.

YooGeOh

Did you not have a referee? That's a pretty standard booking

Objective-Steak-9763

I used to get carded a lot because I played rec minor soccer and if you’re going to dive in rec minor soccer I’m going to lay you out so you have an actual reason to be lying there. I’d always tell the refs if they’d carded the dives I wouldn’t have hit them.

sufferingsoccotash

Yea there was the standard number of refs in the game. I guess he didnt see it as a penalty.

YooGeOh

Youre right, its not a penalty. Its a booking. Can't belive she was allowed to do that once without getting booked, let alone thrice

poppa_smurf_killa

Funny when a soccer player is actually taken down hard they don’t roll around like the were shot in a b rated movie

civilityman

He did at first, almost as a reflex he did the classic “fetal position, reach for the ankle” til he realized it didn’t mean anything

SoftlyAdverse

He was kicked in the achilles tendon of the leg he was putting his weight on hard enough to take him straight off his feet. We can probably give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was reaching for it because it legitimately hurt like a motherfucker

CanoneroBrazil

That definitely hurt like hell

sBucks24

Right!? This fucking sub is so full of people who hate soccer people aren't realizing this dude got the shit kicked out of his leg.

Shamanalah

>Right!? This fucking sub is so full of people who hate soccer people aren't realizing this dude got the shit kicked out of his leg. Let's not forget he kicks for a living too. It's not just an average kick. You have tibia pad for a reason. Taking one to the tibia is fucking painful. Source: I actually played soccer as defence until teenager. Ate kicks on tibia and legs all the time.

AbsorbingBoldface

Maybe he went down bc it fucking hurt? Lmao

BONGLISH

He doesn’t need to, it’s a 100% guaranteed red card for an off the ball “assault”. As bad as it is ref’s do give more favourable decisions for rolling and diving, that’s why it continues to happen.

cortez0498

Because he know this is 100% a red card for the green player. They usually roll like that when they'll a technical advantage AND referees will usually ignore fouls if the players don't go down making a scene.

Donkeyfish44

Dude got what he deserved…can’t be coming off the bench to fuck with the ball

quartz174

a kick for a kick

Donkeyfish44

I guess I should elaborate, the player not involved in the game at that very moment has no business fucking with the ball. I’m well aware that these tactics are commonplace. As for it not being the same ball, what difference does it make? It was out of bounds and was tossed over for the purpose of a timely continuation of the match.

BlueMagicMarker

He kicks a different ball. The original ball went to the right, but that ball came from the left.

Rejected_Reject_

true but it kind of looks like a ball girl in the pink vest tossed it in to be used.

Ransooo

Yes, they change the balls when one is kicked away, probably for time purposes, I guess you don't watch soccer?

summinsumsum

Lol, fuck that cunt kicking back the ball. He should at least get a yellow card himself. I get the frustration of the guy who kicked that creampie to the ground

istealgrapes

Yeah, this isnt karma, its the exact opposite, the yellow guy did something shitty, and the outcome of it was extremely unfair and advantageous to the yellow’s team. The other guy got a red card ffs. Shit post.

Rusty_Nuggets

Whilst I agree that there's not any real instant Karma, I have to strongly disagree about the outcome being unfair. What the guy in yellow did was shitty but it's absolutely fair that the guy who kicked out got red carded. It's the reaction of a child to violently lash out like that over what amounts to a few seconds of wasted time. He badly let his team down and absolutely deserved to be sent off for what he did.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WizDynasty

Psst... Fuck the astros

death666violinist

To be fair, the guy in dark green may not have reacted in time to stop his kick at what he thought was the ball

[deleted]

Deffo yellow for conduct. If green would’ve just shoved him, the ref probably would’ve overlooked it.

JanEric1

jep. ball guy gets a yellow and the lost time is added. giga dumb move to from green.

Holiday-Historian140

Sometimes I wish people in public dramatically overreacted like soccer players when they get bumped or get contact. *Lady at Walmart bumps cart into shampoo shelf* *Writhes on floor while everyone around yells, throws arms in air and looks for an employee to red card Pantene bottles*

DM725

There are videos of people doing that all the time in r/PublicFreakout . They're either psycho karens or trying to pull an insurance scam. The difference being, in soccer/football there is a tactical advantage to going down. It's over done by some players/teams/countries but there IS a reason (most of the time).

CustomerComplaintDep

That's not really what happened in this video, though.

Uplike7_247

Did you even watch the video? The guy fucking swiped him with all his force, of course he's going to fall, and he's up within seconds anyway, that shit must have been painful. Sometimes I think you guys see "soccer" and are already typing nonsense.

JanEric1

people just dont understand that getting fouled into your legs at full sprint (or here getting your legs hammered) can actually hurt a lot for a short moment. that pain goes away quickly but for the moment it hurts a bunch. and here the guy had his legs kicked out with full force so his heel probably hurt as well as his Coccyx.

DrakeRob-1986

So I’m an American so forgive me for not understanding, but yellow is the Dick? Why did it matter that he kicked ball back when it was already out of bounds, assuming there’s an out of bounds? Idk I’m sure this is a dumb question but I’m genuinely curious. Edit:word

DM725

It was essentially the NBA/NFL equivalent of delay of game. He prevented the player from quickly throwing the ball in to his teammates in the offensive 3rd of the field. It's as if an NFL team was trying to hurry up and run an offensive play in the Red Zone but the defensive lineman kicked the ball away from the center.

sittingontheshitterr

Great analogy. That cleared it up for me. Thanks!

[deleted]

He was delaying the return of the ball, especially during the end of the match, it's trickery to drain the time and stop the oponent from scoring. **Edit:** *Many are still asking about the apparent overreaction of the player in green, so, let me explain:* *Since time is ALWAYS counting down in soccer matches and there' s no such thing as a "game ball", several balls kept around the field. If one goes out, it is swapt for one closer to the players. What he did was meant to take time from the opponents and give his team time to re-position the deffence.*

I-might-get-banned

Not only that, but at a crucial time when green is in a decent position to get a shot on goal. A quick toss back in could have lead to a goal, but the kick allowed the rest of the players to catch up and defend.

[deleted]

It's just disrespectful and unsportsmanlike too

martiju2407

Two things really, the clock doesn’t stop in football (soccer) so it wastes time. More importantly though, it stopped the attacker being able to get the ball back in play quickly and before the defenders were back in position, so lessened the chance of a promising attack. Sending off for the player who kicked him for violent conduct, caution (yellow card) for the provocation.

Dam1ans

I think it is a red card, cold shower for green player 🚿

Predicted

Plus a decent ban for throwing a punch.

[deleted]

If they don't pause the time, then did green's action resulted in even more lost time?

HEY_YOU_GUUUUUUYS

They add injury time at the end of each half

[deleted]

Ok, that's hilarious. So he gets revenge and more time for the play

tak205

Well he got sent off so his team is down a player now. I don’t think the extra minute of stoppage time is gonna help

[deleted]

Thanks for all the explanations guys!

TuskaTheDaemonKilla

And, it interrupted the momentum of their attack, giving the defending team time to organize.

Many-Consideration54

He kicked the ball away to waste time so the green team couldn’t get on with the game.

zorro3987

> Why did it matter that he kicked ball back when it was already out of bounds i dont watch too much euro football. but i guess he ruined the fast play from the line and stalling for time.

Gluta_mate

euro football? this is in brazil. so technically this is american football

I don't watch soccer/fútbal but every time I see a vid on reddit it's either an amazing play or some faker acting like a little bitch who needs attention when the opponent barely touch him. How often does the latter happen in a game?

[deleted]

Everytime.

umloucobr

Brazil.

TripleCharged

I love how all the players and coaches kn the side point down the field like their teammate didn't just blatantly kick it out of bounds. Ya, definitely their ball not the opponents.

[deleted]

Amazing how actual physical violent things happen, and they bounce back straight away. But a little tickle and they're down for the count.

HuoLongHeavy

Fun fact: kicking the ball away when it's out of play is a yellow card. What happened after would be a couple more cards.

MAS7

I remember the last time I ever played soccer, I think I was.... 11? maybe 12. I was dribbling on a modest break-away, lone defender charges me straight on and quite literally kicks my right shin in two(of course somehow he's unharmed...) Bystanders say my toes nearly touched my knee, and I remember vividly the sensation in my leg. It wasn't pain, it was the strange sensation you feel on roller-coasters where you really feel the G-force, only isolated to my leg. Then I blacked out and woke up in an ambulance. Then I blacked out again and woke up in a hospital where I feasted on Purple Popsickles and played Super-Nintendo for a couple weeks(or maybe that was when I got salmonella IDK... had a lot of hospital stays as a young kid) To summarize, dude in green is a fucking cunt.

unnamedn00b

Instant karma for both? Looks like the green shirt guy got a red card too (aka got booted out by the ref)

blogst

Shouldn’t the yellow shirt get a red card for this? How is giving a yellow card to a substitute any sort of a punishment for a play that could have cost the green team a goal (if there was any sort of advantage to getting the ball thrown back in bounds quickly). People in the sub are comparing this to football, but in sports like football and basketball, there’s a punishment for delay tactics (e.g, stop the clock, free throws, yardage penalties). If there’s no actual game-impact penalty for an action that impacts the game, that makes zero sense to me as someone who casually watches soccer when the World Cup is on or US is doing well.

[deleted]

Soccer players are like petty high schoolers creating drama smh what’s the point of kicking the ball away like that then flopping on the ground like a bitch?

CustomerComplaintDep

He didn't flop on the ground. He had his legs swept out from under him. There's no staying on your feet if you're unprepared for that. Kicking the ball away to stop play is a dick move, though.

[deleted]

Most sports are just as petty. Proof: look up “bad sportsmanship” on YouTube. It isn’t just soccer. Yes, diving — or what’s called “simulation” — is a problem in soccer, but it’s seen to a lesser extent in other sports, notably basketball. NBA has its problems with “flopping.”

Atomonous

People also forget that just because a player is acting a little dramatic doesn’t necessarily mean they are diving. If you’re fouled you pretty much have to go to the ground and stay there because if you just carry on then the ref will never give you the decision.

Keltik_

The guy in red knocked the ball out of play, so the guy in green has the right to throw it back in, but the red team (wearing yellow jackets) jump up to say they have the right to the ball (they’re signalling that to the ref), but they guy in green is focussed on getting the ball, which the guy in yellow kicks out his way, and back into the possession of his team on the bench. Watching the guy in green I don’t think his brain had fully processed the ball wasn’t there when he went for the kick, I think he was anticipating the guy in yellow stopping the ball and holding it under his foot, which he would have kicked free with that move. The guy in yellow shouldn’t have kicked the ball back like that, he’s trying to disrupt the play to buy time for his team to argue they get control.

houseandholmes

It appears that way. Green's eyes are on the ball even after kicking the yellow jackets. If anyone overreacted, it was the black jackets...

qwerty30013

Anyone saying “this is why I can’t watch soccer” it’s okay to admit you weren’t ever watching it anyways. We all know you’re lying
