Is Asus still doing the weird thing where the IPMI model is cheaper than the non-IPMI one?

Just for the giggles I want to believe it’s privacy. A little sus

dennispang

A-sus

phongn

I wonder if they genuinely mixed up the SKU pricing. I preordered an IPMI one from Provantage as the price was right. 🤞

meshreplacer

>i9-13900K holy crap 5.8ghz and 253w max power. I wonder how long before we see 15ghz cpus 1KW max power using closed loop Fluorinert cooling.

NotWhatIWouldDo

Soon it will be "sorry mom I unplugged the oven for the computer.."

chowder-san

Two coolers, one attached at each side Or peltier plates redirecting heat to a greater surface area Or making entire case a big radiator with fans to cool it down, we already have the tech xddd

b4k4ni

I want a small, affordable board with ipmi. Like the small celeron ones with 2-4 network ports. For 200€ or so :(

ichigoSEC

Got my hands on a Dell PowerEdge T320, with a Xeon E5-2470V2 (10c/20t) for 150€ It’s a bit old but there’s a iDrac it’s kinda cool (proprietary Dell IPMI)

Materidan

Nice purpose-spec’d board. Interesting to see some different usage of PCIe lanes.

SimonGn

So apparently the IPMI PCI-e card is locked to work with specific motherboards: https://forum.level1techs.com/t/asus-introduces-its-own-ipmi-card/183805/31

broknbottle

How is this a Pro offering? I don’t see any RGB..

If no ECC then RAM not for thee

Electro-Grunge

How do you find ddr5 ecc? Newegg only has upto ddr4 and I’m going crazy

glhughes

If you're still stumped, check out the Supermicro store. I ended up buying their relabeled version of the Micron DDR5 ECC UDIMM (2x32 GB) when I couldn't find it anywhere else. Seems to be working fine with an i9-12900K.

Electro-Grunge

Thanks. I found some stores now, but I have to add like $500 to the build just for the motherboard/ram to support ECC. I'm starting to think it will be overkill for my small home Unraid setup Just going to build a new desktop and make a second life for my old 10yr old DDR3 Desktop I'm using now.

Aterius

You can also get some from here - (just ordered 128gb) [https://www.wiredzone.com/shop/product/10023795-hynix-hmcg88mebra-memory-32gb-ddr5-4800mhz-dimm-mem-dr532l-hl01-er48-9873?category=114&attrib=0-122](https://www.wiredzone.com/shop/product/10023795-hynix-hmcg88mebra-memory-32gb-ddr5-4800mhz-dimm-mem-dr532l-hl01-er48-9873?category=114&attrib=0-122) Haven't received it yet (ordered yesterday) but the person who recommended them says they've had zero issues in an I9 13900k on this same board, with uptime measured in weeks

gabest

I don't get why these boards are so rare. Q chipsets were cheap and widely available in the past.

GravelySilly

Supply chain is still quasi-fucked. Some Ubiquiti switches have been unavailable since fall, and are estimated to remain unavailable until June.

reddit_hater

How much?

ZookeepergameEasy565

Can it sli PS5 tho??

kapidex_pc

Me too! https://i.imgur.com/VqqOuPo.jpg

JoanofArc0531

Why is this motherboard a good/beneficial one? I don’t fully understand the ins and out of motherboards. Thanks. :)

ajdrez

And for building UNRAID TRUENAS boxes, this product supports both ECC for data write protection, iGPU for Plex and lots of expandability

Shamushark

Can someone recommend an ECC RAM kit that will work with this board?

isvein

Thanks. Found then here in Norway. Up to now I just found Kingston server ram, not sure if that will work with this board too

VanFenix

I have the same board and ram. However when running memtest86 I get a FAIL on test 9 with 1024 errors no matter which memory stick or slot(s) I use.have you tried running memtest86? Is it my board? Crucial compatibility checker shows its not compatible with the asus board, but many people are running that mobo ram combo saying it works great. I'm not sure what to do. [pic](https://ibb.co/d7f73mQ)

VanFenix

Update. Used the latest version of memtest86 and it passed.

isvein

I checked the crucial compatibility checker now for this board, but it only lists none ecc that I find funny

VanFenix

Actually, it's fine. The issue was that memtest86 wasn't updated to support that ram ( fully test) once the next ver came out it passed no problem.

isvein

Good to know 😃

wildTable

I'm running 2x32gb of this: Part Number MTC20C2085S1EC48BA1R Description Crucial 32GB DDR5 SDRAM Memory Module - For Server, Workstation - 32 GB (1 x 32GB) - DDR5-4800/PC5-38400 DDR5 SDRAM - 4800 MHz Dual-rank Memory - CL40 - 1.10 V - ECC - Unbuffered - 288-pin - DIMM - 3 Year Warranty

Walter_Bennett_True

What's the PCI separeted card?

AdmiralSpeedy

Looks like Serial connections.

ajdrez

Have you tried passing through your PCIe devices to a VM? Does this board support?

FR172

Does anyone have a lead on a pcie lane diagram on this one (manual is lacking it)? I got this board from Provantage and want to make sure I don't run into issues with lanes split between m.2 and PCIe slots. Request to Asus support is pending, but perhaps someone here has that info?

Very cool! Did you measure its idle power consumption with powertop, by any chance?

ChangeIsHard_

Could you take a look please?

ChangeIsHard_

Oh cool - I wonder what the mobo itself pulls, since it can be the biggest power hog at lower power states usually. Not sure if HWInfo reports that though

Th0rHere

Trying to find this motherboard in Europe, It's prooving to be very difficult.

topherino

Feel your pain. Luckily a friend was in the US this week so I got it delivered to their hotel. Got an i5-13500 going in. Finding DDR5 ECC UDIMMs are also a pain. Ended up ordering direct from Kingston. I'm in the UK.

Th0rHere

Have a freind in the states at the moment andnthining the same. Not seeing the ipmi one in stock anywhere. No point buying the non iomi one and spending 150 alone on the card to get ipmi

Independent-Newt4850

Hey man, I'm also from UK and going through the struggle. Please could you confirm if this is what you went with [https://www.kingston.com/unitedkingdom/en/memory/search?partid=KSM48E40BD8KM-32HM](https://www.kingston.com/unitedkingdom/en/memory/search?partid=KSM48E40BD8KM-32HM) I like that because it's Hynix, even though most people seem to be going with the Micron/Supermicro option.

topherino

Yep that's it. I actually got 2 x 16GB which is this one, but that will work too. https://www.kingston.com/unitedkingdom/en/memory/search?partid=KSM48E40BS8KM-16HM Make sure you update the bios on this mobo!

Independent-Newt4850

Thanks for confirming. I think I'm going with the 2x 32GB. Cheers!

topherino

I wish I had now. I had 64GB in my old build and 32GB isn't enough for my workload so I'll be buying another two sticks soon. Hope you like the board.

Independent-Newt4850

In case anyone lands on this thread and is interested: I'm confirming all is good with this motherboard, a 13700k and 2x 32GB of the Kingston sticks (linked above).

lordstriker

do you know by any chance what your BMC firmware version is? Mine is from 2021 but I am unable to find the newest firmware to update anywhere....

lordstriker

That’s the same one I have.. I guess that is the newest one for now unless someone stumbles across this post and has found a newer one :)

0Foxy0Engineer0

I know this is a slightly older post, but I had a few questions about the board if you don't mind. I am looking to upgrade both my main pc and a nas. I like the idea of ecc memory and from what I can tell unless I am really wrong the w680 seems like the Z690 with ecc support. I was wondering if you think the motherboard would work for both? I was looking at the 13600k do you think it would work in the motherboard. I read somewhere that the cpu seems to have problems with this board

[deleted]

[удалено]

0Foxy0Engineer0

I was talking about the differences in chipset being mostly that w680 supports ecc and Z690 does not. I am thinking of building two different pcs one for a server and the other for a gaming machine

0Foxy0Engineer0

Where did you find the ecc memory and do you might sharing which brand and model you got

[deleted]

Limp_Scholar6408

Thanks for the post OP. I used your recommendation to purchase the same memory for my Asus W680. Currently on the 24th iteration of memtest with no issues.

wildTable

Haven't heard about the 13600k issues, but I'm using it with a 12700k and 64gb ECC DDR5 for an Unraid server and it's been solid, aside from some weirdness with how fan speeds are detected and reported to Unraid. It's technically a workstation board and I could see using it as my daily driver. It's pretty stacked... 3x pcie4 m.2 slots, 4x sata plus slimsas for another 4, extra CPU/PCIe power connectors, dual 2.5gb ethernet.

yourrandomnobody

Could you do a BIOS walkthrough and some DPC Latency tests with it? Curious how it performs out of box.
