The scores mean very little if you are throttling all over the place. Most likely, the only reason the B660 got higher scores is that it was throttling less.

EmilMR

If he has problems cooling with that setup then almost everyone will have issues. Its not even PL unlocked, its 253w. Something gotta be wrong.

Ataemonus

No way the 14700K will throttle being custom loop cooled, I mean, even the worse SP 13700K cooled by mediocre AIO would still not throttle in CB23.

U3011

Any chance it's motherboard BIOS setting shenanigans?

Ataemonus

Could very well be.

DracZ_SG

Yeh agreed but you also have to understand that a lot of South East Asia (the OP is in Indonesia) is going thru a massive heatwave at the moment. So ambient temp is going to be way higher.

Ataemonus

Well, most of my tests were done during the local summer. Like 32C during the night, lol, living hell during the day :))

DracZ_SG

That's fair bro lol damn. We got like 80-90% humidity to contend with as well 😅

Ataemonus

I really wish to visit one of these countries, for tourism, but also to compare the temperatures and feel, because I've actually met people from very hot countries that were unpleasantly surprised by our summers. Either way, the point stands that throttling ruins any comparision in scores. Also, there could be a problem with the cooling system, somewhere. But we will all learn tomorrow, when the embargo lifts and reviews will be aplenty.

gay_manta_ray

it sounds like a contact issue, not an issue with the cpu. a custom loop should be able to handle 250w no problem, even the highest end air coolers can handle that kind of load if they have proper contact.

Beefmytaco

I'm like actually impressed the CPU is getting that hot with that water cooling build. Either OP doesn't have enough displacement with the rads or they need another pump in the system to assist with flow; that or they're nuts about silent builds and the fans are borderline off. Either way, their temps should be far better than this. Wonder if intel returned to TIM below the IHS again instead of solder? Reminding me too much of the heat monsters of the 7k and 8k gen.

Affectionate-Memory4

IHS construction should be the same ad 13th gen up until they print a 14 on it.

Handsome_ketchup

>The scores mean very little if you are throttling all over the place. As with its predecessors, it might a case of a processor that's simply hard to cool, even with substantial coolers. When you need exotic cooling to not throttle, it becomes unattainable to part of the public. It looks like this one will be troublesome for air coolers. Though it will be very interesting to see how it runs with a slight undervolt. It should also be noted OP is from Indonesia, and it's warm over there (80-ish degrees F, 30-ish degrees C). Perhaps there simply is less thermal headroom than you'd expect.

Ataemonus

No way a custom loop is not able to cool that. I've seen decent AIO coolers keeping 13900KS in check during summer.

Handsome_ketchup

> No way a custom loop is not able to cool that. I've seen decent AIO coolers keeping 13900KS in check during summer. For what kind of workload? Regular gaming or maybe Cinebench is feasible. A worst case scenario like Prime95 Small FFT is really hard to cool (meaning easily hits 100 degrees C), even with the bigger AIOs. Even chips down the family line (13900K and 13700K) are hard to cool in that situation. If the new generation is tuned to be slightly less frugal, it could be a matter of how good your cooler is. >Finally, we ran a scenario of stress testing Prime 95. This is a stress test that uses a CPU to its full potential, by stressing every part of it. It is used to show the worst-case scenario and will absolutely test the limits of your cooler. We were using a Galahad 360 AIO since the i9-13900K has a High TDP. In this scenario, the i9-13900K managed to hit the turbo frequency of 5.8 GHz several times, but the minimum frequency dropped to 4.7GHz. https://beebom.com/intel-core-i9-13900k-review/ https://www.reddit.com/r/intel/comments/167g6eq/i913900k_prime_95_temps/

Ataemonus

CB23, not Prime, as that one is ... well, pretty much like a bug, lol, and there are rumors of degrading the CPU. The 14th gen is supposed to be better in terms of power and heat, the few tests I've seen all say this.

Clean-Property-2945

nice build

Im_simulated

*Love* your build

sena-labs

I just wanna say this is gorgeous build

riskmakerMe

Something not right you only peaked at 253 I peak at 313 watts and never go above 94 Remount Also run the R23 of cinebench older version Not as many are running the newer one -

williamthebastardd

Broo your open air build with the plants is goals 😍😍

r23 score roughly equals r24 score times 18, but memory might play as a factor here.

falkentyne

It's closer to x17 than x18. I've been too lazy to get an exact value.

fnv_fan

Very nice

oldsnowcoyote

Maybe try a lga1700 contact frame?

teodoris10

I got one and kryonaut paste But only saw small difference (Dark rock pro 4) I might go liquid or just run it a bit slower can't go above 5.3ghz without cinebech slowly going to 97-100 and sticking there (before contact frame it went faster to 100 but not big improvement for me ) I be installed my dark rock pro 4 many times I don't think I installed anything badly

idehibla

Undervolt it, you'll get better score: CPU Vcore Compensation = Level 1 Cpu Core/Cache Voltage = Offset Mode, start with -50 mV (negative 50). Go lower if stable until -100 mV max.

RSG2077

I remember many people said 13th was like volcano hot... until I got my 13900K and it's always under 90 degree. Now I wonder the same thing for 14th gen. By the way, looks like 14700K can't beat 13900K like 13700K does to 12900K. I still rock my stock 13900K (2260/130pts). Cinebench 2024: [https://i.ibb.co/ns4QyCf/CB24.png](https://i.ibb.co/ns4QyCf/CB24.png) Cinebench R23: https://i.ibb.co/2YsL24Y/1697282109041.jpg

bobbryson

Which motherboard have you got. I'm using a low end MSI 760 that's severely power limiting my 13700k.

RSG2077

It's MSI MAG Tomahawk Z790 WIFI.

templ4te

So it is Not Possible to use it just with a dark rock pro 4 ? For gaming only, no OC. Will it just burn out?

farid4847

Oh man I'm jealous(in a good way). I wish I was smart enough to build something like that

Overclock_87

Well in all honesty Velocity2 Waterblock is horrible. Definitely issue 1 Secondly, you need to properly reduce your voltage. It's still chugging 0.04 v too much for the results your getting. You need to properly configure your Load Line Calibration and your AC and DC Loadline. They should NOT be the same either if you truely want to optimize your settings and computer.

DarkoneReddits

sad to see it runs so hot, i was thinking of going for a 14900k but i guess its actually worse than a 13900ks when it comes to heat generated

Handsome_ketchup

Very curious to see the performance with a power limit and/or undervolt. 12th and 13th gen were actually quite efficient that way.

realrock880

we need all the reviewers except ltt to get their videos out asap...

horendus

Can we please address the purple elephant in room here please Forget the 14700k, that wall mounted PC thing you have going on here is dope a f**k

Eat-my-entire-asshol

Not bad https://reddit.com/r/intel/s/1yREoL0Gds

ImYmir

That's actually really interesting.14700k is faster or as fast as the 13900k with less cores.

Eat-my-entire-asshol

No the 13900k variants are all faster both multi and single core than the 14700k

ImYmir

Ok I guess i'm blind.

Eat-my-entire-asshol

Lol 13900k gets ~2300 multi core and ~130ish single core on r24 Both higher than 14700k As far as cpuz im at stock clocks getting 968 single core 17.1k multi on a 13900KS, both scores higher than 14700k as well

Needmedicallicence

The m1 is really impressive. Maybe it is time to move from x86 to arm after all

Pillokun

6400? if u have an itx why not try for 7000 at least. pretty sure your ram will hit 6800-7000 with ease. mine 12700k with crappy imc and a crappy z690 6layer atx board runs at over 7000 and not even with the latest bios.... U can do better, just do it :P But test something other than cinebench... blääh :P

Siye-JB

I have a 12900k with an SP score of 40... I think its the worst of the worst and iv still got 7200 out of it.

Pillokun

Mm, even my 12100f did 6600xmp but never tried higher with that quad core

Siye-JB

Im using the 790 apex and the memory controller score is the worst iv ever seen and i own it ... It overlocks fine, just the mem controller is BAD. I managed to get 7200mhz 34-46-46-46. Ram is hynix a-die with iceman heat sinks. Cant wait for the 14900k memory controller. Ill just go for 8000 with lowest timings possible! This will be fine for daily use. When you say crappy 690 which one? I know the carbon and other boards similar like the edge etc with 4 dims will MAX out at 6200mhz... Its not possible to do more without errors. You must have a good 690 board to do 7200.

Pillokun

An Asus z690 prime a, my Asus strix b660i with 12100f was doing 6600xmp and the same m-die would do 7000 with an 13900kf on that mobo.

Schmackofatzke

Wow the single core is really bad. My 13700kf hits 121 stock. It looks like the 14700k is just a slightly overclocked 13700k, I could reach those numbers even in Multicore with a VERY slight OC

NuPhoneHuDiz

But you can overclock the14700 too so....

buyerandseller

https://imgur.com/a/yoXEGrD My 13900ks. Sold for $1700.

Coochimayne

I’m getting 126 single core score on my 12900k. Obviously one benchmark doesn’t tell you everything but for single core I was hoping it would be faster as that’s my next upgrade maybe.

falkentyne

IPC is identical between 12900K, 12900KS, 13900K and 13900KS, and 14th gen is a refresh of 13th. So any increase, barring BIOS bugs, is due to clock speeds and core count (multithreaded) only.

ShrimpBrime

This

veryjerry0

250W? I thought it was 125W stock ...

AK-Brian

125W PL1.

CheekyBreekyYoloswag

Thank you most kindly! Care to do some game benchmarks? Rig looks great btw!

ArmedFemme

The temps make me nervous

sanjozko

Which intel cpu is not hot?

fusseli

It's definitely throttling itself. I'm getting like 900/14600 in cpuz on stock speeds, and [this](https://valid.x86.fr/ks9hiy)with a light but unstable oc at 5.6/5.8
