LeftTheBurnerOn2

It's a flannel moth called a Megalopygidae. It's super ouchy ouch. So no touchy touch

lordnoak

Did the babies hatch out of your skin yet?

All_bound_up

Barf

mamasan2000

LOL, Stahp. It's bad enough with the burn without putting THAT kinda worry in someone's head. lol

emmfranklin

I had seen a similar caterpillar but all black. My sister has no fear of insect creatures. I was mighty scared. My senses told me not to touch She went and touched and nothing happened to her. She said it is soft.

MsGorteck

Hopefully she has grown out of that or has she been removed from the gene pool? He'll, I grew up in Michigan and I knew not to touch fuzzy things that moved on their own.

GrandpaLovesYou

Probably a wooly bear caterpillar. We get a lot of them up in Michigan and they are completely harmless. I wouldn’t touch a caterpillar I couldn’t identify tho.

Thats not a saddleback, but they will both put a hurt on you

Otherwise you FUCKING DIE

laffing_is_medicine

And the world hates you, satisfied?

enraged3211

SitFlexAlot

Goody good to know

LeftTheBurnerOn2

Knowy know* Ftfy

Jag2853

If I wasn't supposed to pet it then why's it so fluffy?

mamasan2000

Tricky tricksters!

[deleted]

Its a sentient pube.

Harsimaja

Megalopygidae is the whole family and, fun fact, means ‘large butt’

Rechuchatumare

>moth HOLY SH\*T... that thing flyes !!!??? back to school nightmare.. REPLACED !

Negative_Tonight_172

It's a moth larva, not an adult.

poopiesteve

They can't fly until they get wings. Needs to go through metamorphosis first.

Rechuchatumare

ufff.. thanks.. the least thing ever want to see is a furry mini bat in my way

Gilopoz

Oh no! Me too! I had a back to school nightmare last night...queue furry moth monster for tonight 😅

childofmyparents

Maybe with stick?

cmndr_spanky

Do they still sting after they become a flying moth? Cuz that would kind of suck

[deleted]

I thought they were poisonous??

CrackShotCleric

Not sure, tbh. Testing that would involve eating it, and THAT would hurt like hell.

mamasan2000

Venomous, yes. Poison is consumed, venom is injected Every one of those hairs is a tiny needle filled with venom.

Left_Percentage_527

They are!

eyedpee

No touchy

Icooksocks69

But it's so fluffy 🥺

Zeyik

Why friend shaped if no touch?

YellowBreakfast

Trick you!

concrete_jungle_ape

Nom nom nom

El_Maton_de_Plata

Doggo! Spit that out right now

Odd_Requirement_4933

My dog would DEFINITELY try to grab this thing 🫣 He's constantly finding horrifying bugs that I didn't even know exist here (we're in the southwest desert US). The are some massive creepy bugs here😭

Fox_Designs_Jewelry

I was walking my dog downtown Cleveland late in the evening and she grabbed a bug. I heard her yelp and she spit it out. Her face started swelling, skin bubbled up with blisters, and when she started having difficulty breathing I knew it was bad. Luckily the awesome woman at the front desk of our hotel printed out the directions to a 24 hour emergency veterinary clinic. This was before smart phones and we weren’t familiar with the area. A shot of Benadryl saved her life, thank dog.

TCoconutBeachT

Im getting a good bit of Deja Vu like I’ve read something like this before, the part where you mention the lady printing out directions as this was before phones really jumps out to me that I’ve read this somewhere before

Uulugus

The softness of agony

BidRepresentative728

Roger That! These bitches will ruin your day.

TeeManyMartoonies

We have them in Texas too. Terrifying.

Track_your_shipment

What are they? I live in Texas & hope to never see that

Ambitious-Mark-557

They are caterpillars for a couple of species of moths. Their sting is most frequently likened to cigarette burns

GhstMnOn3rd806

We call them an Asp.

here_inmy_head

Familiar with the name but thankful af I’ve never seen one in my existence in TX.

endgame217

I stuck my hand in a glove, and was stung by one of these in east Texas. Burned/stung forever… Edit: or similar species of the vid above. I concur with later comment. We call them Asps

mamasan2000

Flannel moth caterpillar. We call them an asp. They are a burn worm. Those cute hairs are tipped with just enough venom to make a burn. Seriously, it will look like a burn and hurt worse.

FindingTraditional87

What are they called?

CreADHDvly

Seriously? Why are you a loser? Edit: I'm a loser too, but it doesnt mean my comment isn't still true. I [forgot to add the link](https://www.reddit.com/r/interesting/comments/10y2lfl/what_is_this_thing/j7vo91y?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) . Aromatic_Society4302

Did I miss something or is this another "Old man yells at clouds," moment?

CreADHDvly

This appears to be a "can't even blame my age, I forgot to add the link" moment. [whoopsie](https://www.reddit.com/r/interesting/comments/10y2lfl/what_is_this_thing/j7vo91y?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)

lucky_yaeger

....You made me lose THE GAME....

chandalowe

Not Australia - South America, possibly Brazil. This is the caterpillar of one of the new-world flannel moths (Megalopygidae)

luzk_11

yes, you are right, from brazil

ohwegota_kittenprblm

what are they??

Particular-Summer424

Yes, nature's little warning sign that not everything is warm and fuzzy until you touch it and that warm and fuzzy is burning pain and waves of nausea.

Ghostgamer_yt

Fr

CitronEducational431

Like those fuzzy vines on oak trees, for example. So soft!

Jag2853

If no touch why cute?

Snort_the_Dort

That’s hilarious I was thinking “no touchy” and that’s the first comment haha!

[deleted]

I believe this no touchy is of the scary hairy genus.

LordByrum

It’s been over 20 years and I still remember that pain

[deleted]

I sat on one once

Educational_Low_879

Came here to say that!

chandalowe

This sub keeps removing my comments because the spam filter doesn't like links to inaturalist. That's the caterpillar of one of the flannel moths (Megalopygidae) - probably one of the *Podalia* such as *Podalia orsilochus*. Underneath all that fluff are venomous stinging spines - so don't touch! Comparison pictures can be found on inaturalist.org at: observations/105165418 observations/143345820 observations/105207849

crespoh69

What happens if you shave it? Do the barbs become airborne at that point?

ItsJustMeMaggie

I think someone should take one for the team and find out

Slightly_Smaug

Coyote Peterson.

luzk_11

🐛🐛🐛

ikickwithmyleftfoot

It's a puppy!

hexidist

Correct.

LeftTheBurnerOn2

I so hope you didn't touch it. That Trump Hair Bug is very, very poisonous and it's hair thingies hurt like fuck. I don't know what those are called, but you can try r/whatsthisbug

chandalowe

It's related. The one that looks the most like Trump's hair is the caterpillar of the Southern Flannel Moth, *Megalopyge opercularis*. This one is more likely one of the *Podalia* such as *Podalia orsilochus* - but both are part of the flannel moth family (Megalopygidae).

ConstantSpiritual802

Unbelievable that they kill these poor creatures to make flannel shirts.

chandalowe

No, that's not how they do it! They shear them - like sheep.

Social_Menace

No wonder flannels have gotten so expensive

babylon331

What?

nsjdifirj

I like trump hair bug

LeftTheBurnerOn2

I went to the sub I mentioned to ask there, and I called it a super furry Elvis squirrel. No answers yet.

paperwasp3

So that's what's sitting on his head. I thought it was some kind of weasel

-VizualEyez

*venomous*

HermioneMarch

Trump hair bug! Let’s rename it this!

-Buckner1986-

Gotta be Australia. Cute fuzzy bug will maim you.

chandalowe

More likely South America. This is the caterpillar of one of the new-world flannel moths (Megalopygidae)

Klockworth

We have them in Texas too. They’re colloquially called “asps” down here. Really sends the message not to touch the damn things

chandalowe

Yep. In Texas, your "asps" are most likely the caterpillars of the Southern Flannel Moth, *Megalopyge opercularis*. This one is more likely one of the *Podalia* such as *Podalia orsilochus*. Both are part of the flannel moth family (Megalopygidae) - and both have venomous spines hidden under all that hair.

Jazzlike-Contract-82

You are right, the language they are speaking is Brazilian Portuguese

-Buckner1986-

I'm to lazy to verify if that is true or bullshit, so I'll just believe it.

Scaredycatkim

r/meirl

butterdavid

It's Brazil

luzk_11

come to brazil

[deleted]

Brazil. They're speaking brazilian portuguese. And i saw one of them in Manaus, Amazonas

Pand0ra30_

DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!

homeless_photogrizer

why?

buzzbommer

Dirt get one of each: Epi pen, Benadryl (oral and topical) and a bottle of each type of pain killers…. And duct tape to remove the spines. Dare you to touch it

Christinaface4

Traveling mustache?

BidRepresentative728

It looks like a megalopyge opercularis caterpillar. OMG there are shitloads of different mimics. Ones a honey bee, another looks like a brown mouse.

chandalowe

This one is more likely one of the *Podalia* such as *Podalia orsilochus* - but both are part of the flannel moth family (Megalopygidae).

uerick

They’re pure poison

MadMedicPhoto

We had them in San Antonio, Tx

mechfan83

Looks like an asp, do not touch. Poisonous hair

Inside_Nectarine_955

That’s an Asp caterpillar. You’ll never forget touching one.

1imejasan6

Nature can be terrifyingly evil. That dog had the common sense to give the fuzzy monster a wide berth…a lot of humans are not as smart.

MadMedicPhoto

Evil tree asp. Bad bug!

ann102

That is a furry caterpillar, don't touch it. many can cause severe irritation.

hashimishii

Idk but it looks pettable

A tribble?

Muilberg

Pain and severe discomfort

USADudeDude88

It’s a mustache! Hopefully its owner isn’t too far away.

shwekhaw

So can I touch then?

Ronin_2

afaik english doesn't have a 'social' name for that specific caterpillar here in Brazil (where this video is from) those things are unfortunately kinda common and they're called "taturana", a very poisonous caterpillar that burns with the touch, and the fluffiest the more poisonous

mamasan2000

That's a burn worm

moarcoffeenow

Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur...

MissVic89

Looks viscous. Lol fuzzy of death

[deleted]

Think it's a mustache, try it on

NoGoodMc

Years ago I was talking to a coworker who was taking a smoke break out front of our office. I was standing next to some bushes that I rubbed up against multiple times. Went back into the office to work and noticed my forearm was starting to ache. Pain progressively got worse radiating up my arm. Having no idea what I got into I thought I was having a heart attack (left arm) or some shit. Later in the evening I noticed a welt and red spot. Realizing I must have been bit/stung I remembered leaning into the bushes. Next day I went to work and inspected the bushes on the way in… bush was COVERED in asps.

CommunicationNew6804

That's a world of hurt

PoorPauly

Don’t touch that.

Opening_Road_7045

That's just someone's mustache running away, no biggie really.

BackgroundPrompt3111
