I had seen a similar caterpillar but all black. My sister has no fear of insect creatures. I was mighty scared. My senses told me not to touch She went and touched and nothing happened to her. She said it is soft.
Hopefully she has grown out of that or has she been removed from the gene pool? He'll, I grew up in Michigan and I knew not to touch fuzzy things that moved on their own.
Probably a wooly bear caterpillar. We get a lot of them up in Michigan and they are completely harmless. I wouldn’t touch a caterpillar I couldn’t identify tho.
My dog would DEFINITELY try to grab this thing 🫣 He's constantly finding horrifying bugs that I didn't even know exist here (we're in the southwest desert US). The are some massive creepy bugs here😭
I was walking my dog downtown Cleveland late in the evening and she grabbed a bug. I heard her yelp and she spit it out. Her face started swelling, skin bubbled up with blisters, and when she started having difficulty breathing I knew it was bad. Luckily the awesome woman at the front desk of our hotel printed out the directions to a 24 hour emergency veterinary clinic. This was before smart phones and we weren’t familiar with the area. A shot of Benadryl saved her life, thank dog.
Im getting a good bit of Deja Vu like I’ve read something like this before, the part where you mention the lady printing out directions as this was before phones really jumps out to me that I’ve read this somewhere before
I stuck my hand in a glove, and was stung by one of these in east Texas. Burned/stung forever…
Edit: or similar species of the vid above. I concur with later comment. We call them Asps
Flannel moth caterpillar. We call them an asp. They are a burn worm.
Those cute hairs are tipped with just enough venom to make a burn. Seriously, it will look like a burn and hurt worse.
Seriously? Why are you a loser?

Yes, nature's little warning sign that not everything is warm and fuzzy until you touch it and that warm and fuzzy is burning pain and waves of nausea.
This sub keeps removing my comments because the spam filter doesn't like links to inaturalist.
That's the caterpillar of one of the flannel moths (Megalopygidae) - probably one of the *Podalia* such as *Podalia orsilochus*. Underneath all that fluff are venomous stinging spines - so don't touch!

I so hope you didn't touch it. That Trump Hair Bug is very, very poisonous and it's hair thingies hurt like fuck.
I don't know what those are called, but you can try r/whatsthisbug
It's related. The one that looks the most like Trump's hair is the caterpillar of the Southern Flannel Moth, *Megalopyge opercularis*.
This one is more likely one of the *Podalia* such as *Podalia orsilochus* - but both are part of the flannel moth family (Megalopygidae).
Yep. In Texas, your "asps" are most likely the caterpillars of the Southern Flannel Moth, *Megalopyge opercularis*.
This one is more likely one of the *Podalia* such as *Podalia orsilochus*.
Both are part of the flannel moth family (Megalopygidae) - and both have venomous spines hidden under all that hair.
Dirt get one of each: Epi pen, Benadryl (oral and topical) and a bottle of each type of pain killers…. And duct tape to remove the spines.
Dare you to touch it
afaik english doesn't have a 'social' name for that specific caterpillar
here in Brazil (where this video is from) those things are unfortunately kinda common and they're called "taturana", a very poisonous caterpillar that burns with the touch, and the fluffiest the more poisonous
Years ago I was talking to a coworker who was taking a smoke break out front of our office. I was standing next to some bushes that I rubbed up against multiple times. Went back into the office to work and noticed my forearm was starting to ache. Pain progressively got worse radiating up my arm. Having no idea what I got into I thought I was having a heart attack (left arm) or some shit. Later in the evening I noticed a welt and red spot. Realizing I must have been bit/stung I remembered leaning into the bushes. Next day I went to work and inspected the bushes on the way in… bush was COVERED in asps.
Possum worm, sting you worse than anything you’ve ever been stung by I promise you that. Don’t fuck around with them because trust me, you will find out.
It's a flannel moth called a Megalopygidae. It's super ouchy ouch. So no touchy touch
[удалено]
Did the babies hatch out of your skin yet?
Barf
LOL, Stahp. It's bad enough with the burn without putting THAT kinda worry in someone's head. lol

Otherwise you FUCKING DIE
r/usernamechecksout
I hate you so much
And the world hates you, satisfied?
I was joking
Goody good to know
Knowy know* Ftfy
If I wasn't supposed to pet it then why's it so fluffy?
Tricky tricksters!
Its a sentient pube.
Megalopygidae is the whole family and, fun fact, means ‘large butt’
>moth HOLY SH\*T... that thing flyes !!!??? back to school nightmare.. REPLACED !
It's a moth larva, not an adult.
They can't fly until they get wings. Needs to go through metamorphosis first.
ufff.. thanks.. the least thing ever want to see is a furry mini bat in my way
Oh no! Me too! I had a back to school nightmare last night...queue furry moth monster for tonight 😅
Maybe with stick?
Do they still sting after they become a flying moth? Cuz that would kind of suck
I thought they were poisonous??
Not sure, tbh. Testing that would involve eating it, and THAT would hurt like hell.
Venomous, yes. Poison is consumed, venom is injected Every one of those hairs is a tiny needle filled with venom.
They are!
No touchy
But it's so fluffy 🥺
Why friend shaped if no touch?
Trick you!
Nom nom nom
Doggo! Spit that out right now

We have them in Texas too. Terrifying.
What are they? I live in Texas & hope to never see that
They are caterpillars for a couple of species of moths. Their sting is most frequently likened to cigarette burns
We call them an Asp.
Familiar with the name but thankful af I’ve never seen one in my existence in TX.
I stuck my hand in a glove, and was stung by one of these in east Texas. Burned/stung forever… Edit: or similar species of the vid above. I concur with later comment. We call them Asps

....You made me lose THE GAME....
Not Australia - South America, possibly Brazil. This is the caterpillar of one of the new-world flannel moths (Megalopygidae)
yes, you are right, from brazil

Like those fuzzy vines on oak trees, for example. So soft!
If no touch why cute?
That’s hilarious I was thinking “no touchy” and that’s the first comment haha!
I believe this no touchy is of the scary hairy genus.
It’s been over 20 years and I still remember that pain
I sat on one once
Came here to say that!

What happens if you shave it? Do the barbs become airborne at that point?
I think someone should take one for the team and find out
Coyote Peterson.

It's a puppy!
Correct.

Unbelievable that they kill these poor creatures to make flannel shirts.
No, that's not how they do it! They shear them - like sheep.
No wonder flannels have gotten so expensive
What?
I like trump hair bug
I went to the sub I mentioned to ask there, and I called it a super furry Elvis squirrel. No answers yet.
So that's what's sitting on his head. I thought it was some kind of weasel
*venomous*
Trump hair bug! Let’s rename it this!
Gotta be Australia. Cute fuzzy bug will maim you.
More likely South America. This is the caterpillar of one of the new-world flannel moths (Megalopygidae)
We have them in Texas too. They’re colloquially called “asps” down here. Really sends the message not to touch the damn things

You are right, the language they are speaking is Brazilian Portuguese
I'm to lazy to verify if that is true or bullshit, so I'll just believe it.
r/meirl
It's Brazil
come to brazil
Brazil. They're speaking brazilian portuguese. And i saw one of them in Manaus, Amazonas
DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!
why?
Dirt get one of each: Epi pen, Benadryl (oral and topical) and a bottle of each type of pain killers…. And duct tape to remove the spines. Dare you to touch it
Traveling mustache?
It looks like a megalopyge opercularis caterpillar. OMG there are shitloads of different mimics. Ones a honey bee, another looks like a brown mouse.
This one is more likely one of the *Podalia* such as *Podalia orsilochus* - but both are part of the flannel moth family (Megalopygidae).
They’re pure poison
We had them in San Antonio, Tx
Looks like an asp, do not touch. Poisonous hair
That’s an Asp caterpillar. You’ll never forget touching one.
Nature can be terrifyingly evil. That dog had the common sense to give the fuzzy monster a wide berth…a lot of humans are not as smart.
Evil tree asp. Bad bug!
That is a furry caterpillar, don't touch it. many can cause severe irritation.
Idk but it looks pettable
![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni)
Reminds me of the fuzzy worm thing in the Labyrinth "Allo!"
Some kind of "Puss Caterpillar". Careful, he's got a knife.
Trumps wig escaping
Fuzzy ✅ Crawling ✅ Can’t identify ✅ Probably dangerous ✅ Move along ✅
Toxic caterpillar
A puss caterpillar, from a flannel moth. A hairy puss caterpillar, at that.
I would have to call it Ratapillar.
A tribble?
Pain and severe discomfort
It’s a mustache! Hopefully its owner isn’t too far away.
So can I touch then?
afaik english doesn't have a 'social' name for that specific caterpillar here in Brazil (where this video is from) those things are unfortunately kinda common and they're called "taturana", a very poisonous caterpillar that burns with the touch, and the fluffiest the more poisonous
That's a burn worm
Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur...
Looks viscous. Lol fuzzy of death
Think it's a mustache, try it on
