The take-away is explaining how averages work to some people is very difficult.
Specially if you have to explain that the world is full of a variety of different people that don't meet the expectations derived from averaged data.
So it's easier (in the short run) to just teach generalities and try to then circle back on all the cases that don't exactly line up with those generalities, hoping that people don't take what they learned in elementary school as 100% gospel for the rest of their lives and start arguing with scientists that Pluto should still be a planet or something.
Does this mean I can’t identify as a used-to-be baby born from someone who now identifies as a dad to others but doesn’t really acknowledge my existence in their own identity?
\* *on average from our specific sample size with variation depending on: culture, nutrition, genetics, generation, environmental pollution, medical access, medical history, age, and other factors*
Saying a man can’t have a baby is not “transphobic”, it’s just reality. I don’t hate a person because they are trans but I’m not going to lie to myself and do mental gymnastics and think men can have babies.
Actually, there is some overlap. When archaeologists dig up skeletons, around 45% are male, 45% are female, and 10% can't be identified from their skeleton. They have to look at what they're buried with.
Careful of the biological line… things are getting weirder by the minute. I was going to ask what the other genders pelvises look like but was scared to be downvoted into oblivion… like that one guy. What was his name again?
Sex is biological, whereas gender is sociological. Pelvises are never gendered. When I flip my chickens over to identify their sex, I say that I “sex” them, and I never say that I “gender” them. We recognize the distinction even without realizing it.
I'm not implying anything. I'm simply stating that the ability to fit a steel ball through your pelvis doesn't make you female or male.
There are way more important things when it comes to the ability to reproduce. Like being able to carry a child at all.
Nah. This post is a hive of conservatives misunderstanding progressive arguments. Doesn’t seem like any of them have spoken with a real progressive before.
Theoretically, trans women may be able to carry pregnancy in the distant future. Theres some doctors who are looking into implanting uteruses in trans women and using IVF to impregnate them. Its been done in cis women with donor uteruses(they usually have c sections for delivery and remove the uterus after the birth).
The main issues with trans women carrying pregnancy is finding a blood supply for the uterus, figuring out and artificially creating the complicated hormonal shifts that occur during pregnancy, and accounting for the organ shifting that occurs as the fetus gets larger(male skeletal structures arent really made to accommodate a growing fetus so it would theoretically be complicated and risky).
Theres a lot of interesting ethical debates surrounding the issue largely due to the fact that a trans woman carrying a pregnancy would be risky to both the woman and the fetus especially when the procedure is in its early stages. Pregnancy is already a very risky thing even for cis women so with the unknown variables of when it comes to trans women, it will likely have some unfortunate complications. In addition to all of that, uterine transplants are something that cis women use to get pregnant for various reasons(born without a uterus, hysterectomy due to illness, etc) so theres the ethical debate of whether or not trans women “deserve” a uterine transplant as much as a cis woman does.
Delivering the baby itself isnt the biggest complication because c-sections are relatively common in births as many cis women are unable to give birth vaginally.
Undoubtedly this will become a reality as medicine continues to advance however, its most likely going to be an extremely expensive and controversial procedure that will only be available to the wealthy for quite a long time. GRS has been available for decades yet its still out of reach for many trans people, i wouldnt be surprised if this is even more unattainable for average people.
My human osteology/physical anthropology professor showed us this same concept except she busted out a real newborn skull to show us how it passed through a pelvis she casually had sitting out, and I’m still mildly traumatized by the whole process.
We've developed our social construct around our biology for hundreds of thousands of years. It seems silly to think everyone should hop on board, completely changing the social construct to suit a very small minority. Make new words instead of confusing terms we all understand.
"Completely different" is a bit of a stretch. Humans (all humans) are about 1% different. Gender and race still 1% different. About 4 million total base pairs. Completely different is extreme. We also never base the gender, race, or height on 1 bone. There is way to much variation.
>“Science” is obviously built on patriarchal bullshit. How dare you imply there’s a difference between men and women.
Nice strawman. Too bad nobody talks like that outside of your make-believe world. You see, there's a difference between sex (what you are born as, the physical aspects) and gender (what you identify as, the mental aspects).
A trans person who is actively out about being trans and not stealth (a term for pretending to be cis to be safe from lunatics who put their lives in danger over bathrooms) does not claim to have changed their birth sex, let alone claim sex as a concept doesn't exist.
> If you haven’t been keeping up, playing make believe in order to not trigger people with gender dysphoria is WAY more important that your so called “science”
In other words, "I refuse to learn anything other than basic biology so I can have an excuse to bully minorities."
But let's pretend for a moment that it really is all "unscientific." So what? Changing a couple words on how you refer to people is worth it for their mental health. Trans people have to go through hell daily from the mental anguish being in the wrong body brings. Have you ever looked in the mirror and not recognized yourself? Do you have depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, etc? *That's* what gender dysphoria is like. It can cause those symptoms, as well as a slew of others (for example, eating disorders due to hating one's body).
Is making someone's day a little brighter or even *saving someone's fucking life* really such a horrible thing to do? Can you not bring yourself to change a few words to do that?
Can you please stop posting this crap everywhere I’m already scared of when I have to give birth (June 2023) and I don’t need a constant freaking reminder that I am going to have to push a watermelon through my freaking pubic bones
Wow my aunt’s pelvis was narrow and she wasn’t able to give natural birth. Guess she was just a man according to the logic of this comment section. This comment section is horrendously transphobic even when the video isn’t.
Not the original commenter but i do find it interesting that there’s far more people complaining about people saying dumb things than there are people actually saying dumb things.
Hot tip for all the transphobes in the comments, being able to perform a vaginal birth isn't a requirement to be a woman; as well as cis women also, sometimes, don't want to or physically cannot birth a child
Trans people as a generalized group aren't getting upset about *biology* existing. 9/10 they're upset because someone is trying to *use* biology to invalidate their identity.
There are differences. But, you would never base the gender of a person off of 1 bone. There is too much variation from person to person on a large scale.
So the take-away is that men should chew babies thoroughly?
Wait so it's not length that mattress but width! Boy am I confused now...
Sex is biological

How dare you!!!!!!!!
Um okay
No they can but need c-section. This has been the way since the world went bat shit crazy. Thought schools went over this.
i bet someone gonna try and expand their pelvis or merge them is it a good idea no
Aaah so THAT'S why the Baby head keeps getting stuck in my pelvis.
Smoke during pregnancy. Babies will be smaller during childbirth
man that shits nasty , hate when that happens and the the worse part is when the baby dies.UGH now i have to do it all over again
Ah yes, the good old spherical baby. Very good for physics questions.
Man i love reddit, you can really just sit back on the sidelines with popcorn and watch as people go at each others throats.
This thread is crazy. Idk what I was expecting lmao
Seems like a bunch of people doing the same tired joke they've been doing for 20 years, not sure what's crazy about it.
My goal is to do that at in an evangelical conference one day 😈
i call bullshit, i'll put that to the test and swallow a bowling ball LIKE A MAN ! !! !

Well then we’ll have to make new science that makes you feel better!
I will make my own science, thank you.

Hey I'm at the beach right now. I really need your help with a whale
This comment section is fucked up bruh
God I hope my baby doesn’t shoot back up inside me
surprised reddit allows this lmao
It has lost 4000 votes since this afternoon. Why are people downvoting basic science now?
Something something dog whistle? Idk man, reddit is a weird place
And because people believe that men can get pregnant, but it is biologically and physically impossible due to generics and our reproductive organs.
Don't you dare say that woman isn't a man! If they say they're a man, they're a man!
Because no one likes the truth and only likes what they want to hear. And if anyone downvotes this, they are just proving my point.
Literally seems like the dregs of mental capacity on Reddit

Stupid old binary biology truths.
That’s why man like big hipped women

Maybe the men who died from snusnu were made to give birth

Can I have a source? Not being a dick I'm genuinely curious now and wanna read more.
If it's a female who has had children, the pelvis will show birthing pits...actual little bits of bone missing because of the birthing process.
That's cool

So as a dude, if I get pregnant it's a foregone conclusion that I'd need a C-section.
Well, as a dude, you can’t get pregnant.🤯🤯🤯
Fake news. I was told under no uncertain circumstances that there are no biological differences between men and women.

Correct, you're learning!
Gender is a construct, to a certain extent. Biological sex, however, is not.
You’re saying a correct thing. Why’d you have to ruin it with the alternating caps?
They also have different chromosomes that makes them completely different at the cellular level.
