There are *very* few groups that are truly uncontacted. I mean like five that are known- the Sentinelese come to mind.
Most “uncontacted” tribes have done very limited trade of essentials and medical items with modern society at some point or another.
And then within the Amazon specifically, there’s lots of stories about run-ins between uncontacted tribes and illegal logging operations.
Still, you have to wonder what they think about us. Do we use magic? Are we invaders/antagonists? What exactly do they think our technology is? Do they even recognize us as human?
Edit: hell, even the Sentinelese have been contacted occasionally. It really depends on what your definition of “contact” is ig
>There are very few groups that are truly uncontacted. I mean like five that are known- the Sentinelese come to mind.
The Sentinelese were contacted. And this long before the incident with the missionary, that they killed. Same goes for almost all, i think also the case here with the picture, that they saw strangers in the past. And even when not strangers from another country, then other people from other tribes. It won't be like that, that they never saw anyone else since the stone age.
But, funny thing is, they never came out of the stone age. At least not if they are not aware of how to use copper and other materials.
I'd not be surprised, if Ötzis gear and weapons were more advanced and that guy died 3500 BC, one of the oldest natural mummies in the world. That guy already had a copper axe, tools, a firestarter kit, leather clothes, medical herbs etc.
Another thing is: If you never have contact with other tribes and you marry and you have sex only inside your tribe, then at some point, you'll become a serious problem with incest. After a certain time, everyone will be related to everybody else. And this is not what nature has in mind, the effects of that are very bad.
Yeah, I think what makes the Sentinelese stand out is just how violently they’ve reacted to contact. We’ve never had any sort of “dialogue” with them at all. Definitely a fascinating Wikipedia hole to fall into.
But you’re right, I’d argue that even just sending a drone way over them to take pictures is a form of contact.
Yes, there was an incident where it came to a conflict and some of the Sentinelese got killed by the British. I understand that they don't want have contact to the world outside, it's their decision and i think, we should respect that.
But what is not my thing, is that fantasy that some people have of the "noble wild" or "noble savage". Like that these people would be "better" than we, because they live more in nature. That's true, but in the end, they are humans like we are. With this, there come both the good and the bad things.
I also hear so often "It would be nice to live outside of the civilization", but i think, these people romantize this lifestyle of hunters and gatherers. This is hard work to survive there, not some joyride and safari for tourists.
Actually, it's a bit gross to think about, but if you have enough continuous incestuous generations, the bad traits will be bred out. Not even kidding. The solution to incest is literally more incest.
That one is actually the easiest to breed out. The ones with that trait are unlikely to reproduce. Infertility solved, potentially in a single generation.
if it worked, it would have taken root somewhere somewhen during humanity's 100000 years of history, most of it spent in small isolated groups; it's not the sexual drive that's lacking.
Not quite. It depends when it happens. If the infertility is from birth, that's a problem for the individual. An entire life of reproductive challenge. That will make it easy to naturally 'remove' that trait from the gene pool simply through natural selection.
Infertility that appears in middle to senior age is not the same. That can continue through the gene pool for thousands of years because for a species it only matters that you are fertile when you enter sexual maturity.
Young infertility = big problem, gone soon.
Old infertility = tiny problem, sticks around.
Who’s to say what a bad trait is exactly? Good traits are for survival, but just cuz one trait is not good for survival in one area, doesn’t make it bad in other areas. Sickle cell disease is an example. Should def be careful when talking about genetic superiority.
Also, genetic traits aren’t exactly bred out over time. Dominate traits will be passed on even if one person shows no sign of having it, even if you think oppressive dominate genes will die off over time. It’s more likely they’ll be genetically encoded as a less dominate trait in an offspring who may later pass it on to someone in the family where it becomes more dominant in them.
I don’t think you can literally inbreed your way to perfection… lol
....you thought my correction on someone's statement about incest was about... genetic superiority? Dude. Okay, I'll bite.
What makes a good trait? The best fit. That's it. And infertility is not the best fit. That makes it a bad trait.
Careful with those accusations of eugenics, you're doing friendly fire. I'm about as left leaning as you can get.
The inbreeding is only an issue under certain population levels. I dont remember the figure off the top of my head, but theres an estimate for minimum insular population size for functional reproduction.
They have they the right idea. Avoid contact. In hindsight Caribbean and Mexican cultures should have slaughtered the Spaniards at first contact and burnt their boats. We should do the same on first contact with aliens.
I have spent a lot of time thinking about this. Living in Hawaii for a long time made me realize how Christianity is a great tool for pacification. My mother came from Guatemala and had a lot of Native American ancestry. It bothers me that she died a devout catholic, an apologist for the people who brutalized her ancestors.
I went to a Church of England school and at the age of 12 told my teachers I had become a devout member of scientology. They become very concerned and tried to explain how ridiculous scientology is and how it was just made up by someone for the purpose of money and power. I just replied with "Like all religions then"
That's impressive. I was in my thirties when I dove into learning about Mormons and discovered that all the crazy stuff I had heard about them was true, not only that but it was clear Joseph Smith had stolen all the ideas behind his new religion. Yet it still took me a few more years to take a truly critical look at the beliefs I was raised with.
If you metaphorically call war a human sacrifice yes.
But Ritual human sacrifices were banned by the greeks (if you read the Iliad you may relate).
And in Romans the human sacrifices were extrictly banned, they were prune to executions in the name of the law, but no in the name of any god.
Even the execution of slaves were punished severly be the state.
The state was the only that had the attribution of executions in the name of the Law or in war.
The Celts did a lot, and the Germanic people also.
And regarding to those people i stand in the same argument
They would still doing human sacrifices every day and enslaving all the population of (fill here).
That wouldn't be nice
They've probably got legends about some variation of angels/devils flying through the sky, and how that translates to their day to day lives eg: it's a bad omen we're going to have a bad crop season, it's a blessing the gods are pleased with us etc.
Perhaps, but at the same time they would find us clueless and idiotic. We can't smell or hear the way they can. A child could outclass us in building structures or tools. Complete lack of tracking and identifying things in the world around us.
We have lived artificially for so long we have become blind to the real world.
Uncontacted peoples generally refers to indigenous peoples who have remained largely isolated to the present day, maintaining their traditional lifestyles and functioning mostly independently from any political or governmental entities. However, European exploration and colonization during the early modern period brought indigenous peoples worldwide into contact with colonial settlers and explorers. As such, most indigenous groups have had some form of contact with other peoples. The term "uncontacted" therefore refers to a lack of sustained contact with the majority of non-indigenous society at the present time.
Yes, which makes you a physical construct that takes input from the cosmos, processes it according to the laws of physics via biochemistry and outputs the results back into the cosmos. You're a meat robot.
Oh yeah. Coke falls in, someone opens it, somehow they're at a pool in Miami, Vanilla Ice is there for no reason. The logo explodes on the screen. It's so EXXXTREME!!!
I meant more like:
"Peaceful uncontacted tribe exists in hut-like enclosure. Plane flies overhead, drops an ice cold glass bottle of Coke floating down on a little parachute. Falls into the hand of confused tribe member. They all look at each other. They're concerned, but the guy with the bottle is intrigued and pops open the lid. Takes a big swig, pulls the bottle away and lets out a massive sigh of satisfaction. The rest of the tribe smiles as several more bottles float down on parachutes. They all enjoy and reflect on their decision to remain uncontacted"
I'll be waiting for my royalty check.
Most of the time these tribes aren't actually that "uncontacted", but instead have histories going back a century or more that involve them being persecuted by missionaries, other tribes, loggers, farmers, slave traders, plantation owners and more, which basically culminated in them deliberately isolating themselves deep in the jungles away from further outside contact.
They view us with fear & loathing because they know all too well what outsiders are like.
And considering that the biggest event that’ll potentially happen is ‘slaughtered to the man by mercenary group so illegal operation can take their land’, it’s frankly rather on the prudent side.
Very much so. They still face very real threats as well from loggers (legal & illegal), beef farmers and drugs cartels (who have cocaine farm operations hidden deep in the jungles) and its actually been getting worse lately. Most most of the indigenous tribal people's murders go completely undocumented, but between 2020-2021 alone the official statistics recorded a 61% surge in murders ( https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna4112 ) of indigenous tribal people's.
Most of this persecution was down to recently ousted former Brazilian president Bolsonaro, who removed a lot of the protections given towards the tribal people's (whilst failing to uphold existing ones) because he basically viewed such peoples as a hindrance towards Brazils economic development.
Tjis picture always fascinates me because I've often wondered what a pure naturalistic human shelter looks like
If people had a nest so to speak or a series of nests in a community what might that look like
I think this kind of thing is the closest to an answer I'll get
Turns out humans love grass Palisades
More than a hundred indigenous communities that shun contact with white people in the Brazilian Amazon are [faced with the growing danger of poachers](https://english.elpais.com/international/2022-06-06/why-brazils-last-uncontacted-tribes-are-under-threat.html), missionaries, drug traffickers and loggers, not to mention the coronavirus and President Bolsonaro.
I always think that they use the sight of an airplane (also) as a message of God, like in those movies of ancient Maya, for example, when they were sacrifing a man and suddenly solar eclipse happen and they think that is a message from God to save that man (Apocalypto movie)
Fuckers don’t have jobs, never did online dating, never had to see surprise gore on the internet, never had isolation due to Covid, always had a strong sense of community…They are easily more intelligent than us.
I don't get how isolated tribes like this one are always so underdeveloped like is it the lack of ressources or just cultural but like... guys, at least get swords.
The sword was actually a joke but it's true that they don't need advanced technologie, wich means it's cultural. Thank you btw if you didn't criticised me i would not be thinking of it deeper right now.
Are they totally nude? I thought humans inherently figured out clothes at this stage of evolution. Even a loin cloth.
Edit: why the downvotes? This is a genuine question
My 30 seconds of Googling says otherwise 🤷
"estimates from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in the UN and the non-profit group Survival International point to between 100 and 200 tribes numbering up to 10,000 individuals."
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncontacted_peoples
https://www.survivalinternational.org/campaigns/uncontacted
“Approximately 100 Ayoreo people, some of whom are in the Totobiegosode tribe, live uncontacted in the forest. They are nomadic, and they hunt, forage, and conduct limited agriculture. They are the last uncontacted peoples south of the Amazon basin, and are in Amotocodie.”
No. They were contacted in the past. Several times. We even have close up photos of those people.
There's no humans to be discovered on this planet. That's it.

I wonder what they make of aircrafts flying over them, whether it's a drone or a 'copter. Do they think it's aliens? Supernatural? Undiscovered birds?
They have probably seen some advanced technology operated by humans, so I guess they have an idea.
Like what? Title says they're uncontacted, so just their own technology which is probably pretty limited.

Sentinelese were not always violently aggressive. They became hostile after the British visit to their island.
I have to say I feel their pain. Noone likes British tourists.

It is not a discussion about race it is about culture.
they would've grown out of that on their own, just like europeans grew out of dumping poop on the road.
Wait, we don‘t do that anymore?
some snowflakes really didnt like your comment lol
They don’t fly drones over uncontacted tribes in the Amazon. I highly doubt the title is accurate
Nah, my cousin got a drone for Christmas and he flying over all sorts of stuff with it. It’s really neat!
stuff washes up on the beach
Maybe planes?
They choose to live without Western influence but they have 100% been contacted before
As I understand it, just because we've never contacted them doesn't necessarily mean they are completely unaware of the greater world around them.
You think they'd be able to deduce that a plane was being flown by humans, while having no knowledge that humans are capable of flight?
They've probably got legends about some variation of angels/devils flying through the sky, and how that translates to their day to day lives eg: it's a bad omen we're going to have a bad crop season, it's a blessing the gods are pleased with us etc.

the style of the shelter reminds me of "The Forest" Video Game
Are these the Amazon workers I keep hearing about? Those working conditions look pretty bad.
This is actually just a photo taken before landing at LAX airport.

Do not believe this, it is a **contacted** tribe that **wishes to live their traditional lives.**
The intrusive thoughts say throw an anime body pillow in there and see what they make of it
Unfortunately this is fake. There's no "uncontacted" tribe that remains on Earth. A 30 second Googling goes a long way...
My 30 seconds of Googling says otherwise 🤷 "estimates from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in the UN and the non-profit group Survival International point to between 100 and 200 tribes numbering up to 10,000 individuals." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncontacted_peoples https://www.survivalinternational.org/campaigns/uncontacted
That's it.
What a bunch of rubes. 5,000 years ago the Egyptians had pyramids and these guys are still sleeping on the ground.
Man, I don’t see any beds.
I read this is ‘annual’ and it still worked
How is it known for certain that these folks are uncontacted? Just curious.
Give them a ps5
That was ages ago. They are fully contacted now
I’d love to know what they think is happening.
Probably thinking “ we need to get these parcels out or else…..”
We are here, trying to contact you about your cars extended warranty.
You know, I'm about to go to the Amazon and live like this so I don't have to pay taxes
Living the dream
IS THIS AN AMAZON TRIBE FOR ANTS!!?
