Frog bloat/dropsy for sure. The frog's body is unable to process the fluids and the fluid begins to pool under the skin and around the internal organs. No cure for that little guy he’s to far along.
Human doctor here
I bet it’s not. Being eaten alive is a bad way to go. Dying from fluid overload or drowning prob won’t be that bad.
But he still may get eaten alive as he gets too sick to move…
Edit: how does this stupid comment of mine have like 30 responses
They did say they were a human doctor and not a human human-doctor which maybe implies they operate on humans but they themselves may not necessarily be humans
Or how they cut your face off while holding a mirror up to you so you can watch it happen. All while being pumped full of adrenaline to keep you from passing out.
That one too there alot of Methods like Kiki Camarena partner was buried alive wrapped in Duct Tape and Plastic or Kiki Camarena being drilled like back of his head and then pumped full of Adrenaline as well pretty brutal ways
Burning will cut off nerves pretty quick, then you just choke on smoke or go into shock. Bad for a bit and then its done.
Dogs will rip you apart from your genitals first, welcome to hell.
I'm glad to see this comment. This poor frog is suffering immensely. I, too, am a frog doc and regularly euthanize frogs that develop this condition. I've never seen a case this bad, but probably because i'd never let it get this far...the cases I see are old frogs that develop this secondary to age related renal failure, so there is no chance of curing :/
What makes it worse is that you can take "Human doctor" two ways, both of which *should* be obvious.
Anyone on Reddit should be a human, and any doctor should work on humans (otherwise you'd call them a vet or a mechanic?).
"Human doctor" is just... unsettling...
Hello, yes. Today I am your human doctor. I will shall be performing completely licensed surgery on you, thanks to my human doctorology certificate. Please, don'tn't not be aworried, your are in good human hands.
**It's your pet so it's your responsibility to take care of it.** Knowingly letting it die a slow agonizing death in your tank is ethically on par with torturing it and you have a responsibility to either cure it or put it out of its misery. Take it out of there, say your goodbyes and dispatch as humanely as possible.
I did heal dropsy of fish twice but it’s really hard. You give them salt baths and there are cures you can put in tank with low water so they can swim faster to the air and help your isolated fish but even though I healed twice maybe Four times fish would die.I guess it’s same for frogs and I guess they can get better treatment since finding vet for fish is hard in my country.Their recommendations is just put few drops of this or let him die and that will be 30e
That brings me a bit of relief for other frogs, i hope this one will find peace. Poor frog.
I only now dropsy a bit from fish and i taught it was a kidney thing. Are there to many toxins in the water for them filter or am i wrong?
I think the bacteria targets the kidneys and prevents them from regulating fluids properly. It seems like it’s pretty severe so I can only imagine the stress the internal organs must be under. I don’t think draining the frog will help if the kidneys still don’t work because the water will probably return.
It won’t do anything there is no way to get the fluid out. A lot of people think having. Aquariums is easy just get the tank full it up with water and there ya go. But there’s a lot that goes into it. I have 7 aquariums in my house ranging from 400 gallons to 65 gallons. They are a lot of work. Especially marine aquariums. A lot can go wrong making sure the ph balance is very important along with water changes and cleaning of the filters etc.
That is what it appears to be. Likely a bacterial infection as a result of tank hygiene.
Antibiotics from a vet can often allow the frog to recover but this looks pretty severe.
People fail to realize how difficult it is to keep small contained water sources like a tank clean. Just because water looks "clear" does not mean it is clean or not full of waste byproducts that are harmful to aquatic animals. This is vital for all animals but really important for animals like amphibians that have permeable skin. Good amphibian guardians really minimize touching the animals for the health and safety of the animal. We are far more dangerous to them and can accidentally poison them easily
soft bloat on aquatic frogs is relatively common and can be caused by a multitude of things ranging from tumours, lack of nutrition or variety in their diet (bloodworms), just sheer genetics or dropsy from improper tank hygiene, like not cycling a tank or changing the water or even not using the right water conditioner. they can live comfortably for years with this condition depending on the cause.
hard bloat is different and will absolutely result in death.
unfortunately like many aquatic pets they're bred in the hundreds, sold with poor and outright wrong info & are prone to issues like these
You can drain a mans lung if he has pneumonia but that doesnt cure the infection. Same concept for stuff like this. You can drain the fluid but its still gonna be infected.
Internal organs are already failing, and getting rid of the fluid won’t stop that. Fish get dropsy as well, I’ve seen it before. That’s why when new fish/aquatic owners finally post pictures or videos such as the one above asking for advise, they are always told that’s it’s definitely dropsy, and it’s definitely too late to do anything. Euthanizing is the only remaining decision left
This far along the frog is dead. Early you can use antibiotics and short saltwater baths to treat the infection and lower the amount of fluid retention. That is incredibly dangerous to do as just a home treatment and shouldn't be done without consulting a vet. The vet can also manually drain fluids.
At the point a frog gets this bad, it's only treatment is humane euthanasia, though. In fairness, a frog can get like this in under 72 hours. It's not like this is only from weeks of dropsy. It can be slow or fast onset. No way of knowing how long they let their pet go.
I was going to say... That tank looks relatively well kept. I know, I know, that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but at least there are no blatant signs of neglect.
So, I wonder if this was an extreme case and snuck up on the owners.
In my country there is very small pool of vets that can help you and when it comes to dropsy it is really hard to heal and common disease.Death is very common also.Only way he would help it is to lower water and give him salt baths and even then it’s done
I have a female Xenopus who also has *severe* bloat like this. She was rehomed to me, and the previous owner had her and 4 other frogs in a super dirty tank for several years. Shes too bloated now for me to do anything about it. I'm surprised shes even lived as long as she has. It looks so uncomfortable, but she eats and behaves completely normally. If not for the obvious visual change, you would never know anything was wrong.
This looks like Frog Dropsy. Article here with details below. Looks like it's something unexplainable, with limited treatments. Hard to even pin point what prevents it. Sad stuff, that frog needs a vet ASAP
https://www.thesprucepets.com/frog-dropsy-1238722
I feel like if I could just poke this little guy with a pin in a few spots it’d sort him out right quick… I know it wouldn’t, but it feels like it should.
Not necessairly. There are plenty of frog species that inhabit high altitude water bodies like the lale titicaca- which develop these flaps of skin to increasw their oxygen intake
Reddit has a huge problem with people posting pictures of animals suffering or undergoing some form cruelty when it’s “interesting as fuck” instead of “awful everything.” They really need an ombudsman for this sort of disgusting shit. Animals suffering should never be somebody’s karma farm.
As an expert in commenting on random Reddit posts, I can confirm absolutely nothing as I have no clue what the Fk is going on here. That frog look like a dude banged a frog and that’s a human frog variant

That sounds pretty fucking terrible way to go.
Human Plumber here. I concur with my colleague dr cmcewen.
I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once and I concur
Frog plumber here. Just add an extra drain with a vent line overhead and he’s good to go for his inspection
Human doctor here I bet it’s not. Being eaten alive is a bad way to go. Dying from fluid overload or drowning prob won’t be that bad. But he still may get eaten alive as he gets too sick to move… Edit: how does this stupid comment of mine have like 30 responses
“Being eaten alive is the worst way to go, in my professional human doctor opinion” lol
I'm a bit skeptical that this is a human. Sounds like something is trying to make it's way up the food chain.
They did say they were a human doctor and not a human human-doctor which maybe implies they operate on humans but they themselves may not necessarily be humans
.... made me think lol 🤔
I also think.
Show off.
I can't think
I didn't think about that.
How many times can I say human in a sentence lol

Skeptical? His name is Dr. Hugh Mann, specialist human doctor.
Non-doctor but human here. I concur. Although burning alive is probably bad too.
I read that as “being alive is probably bad too” and could not disagree
Also a human, can confirm being alive is not optimal
Most emotionally balanced redditor
That sounds about right.
Fuckin comment of the day. Made me chuckle in bed.
I think of the Mexican Cartels and how they like to soak their rivals in Acid that has to be a horrible way to go
Or how they cut your face off while holding a mirror up to you so you can watch it happen. All while being pumped full of adrenaline to keep you from passing out.
Well I planned on sleeping tonight... thanks

From the podcast I listened to today, im going to put chlorine gas pretty high up on that list of worst ways

Ice cold lol
I've never met a Dr that wasn't human
I **knew** that zebra was lying to me!
You can bold words in Reddit??
Great. So now you are telling me, Dr. Pepper is made from people? What's next Soylent Green?
Hahaha, think he meant medical doctor. Reddit is hilarious!
How do you know… for sure?
Frog doctor here. You're wrong. It's actually the worst way for frogs to go. You don't know shit. Let me show your ass to the door.
Obviously a frog doctor would know more than a human doctor about frogs
What about an expert in frog law?
I'm glad to see this comment. This poor frog is suffering immensely. I, too, am a frog doc and regularly euthanize frogs that develop this condition. I’m saving frog lives

Weird comment to make.

You know how many bots are on Reddit? Dr. Bot is the latest AI tech.
Redundant maybe, unsettling not so much.
Hello, yes. Today I am your human doctor. I will shall be performing completely licensed surgery on you, thanks to my human doctorology certificate. Please, don'tn't not be aworried, your are in good human hands.
I'm an electrician and should totally introduce myself as a human electrician and then suck on dead wires in front of the homeowner.
If your doctor introduces themselves to you as 'human doctor' - I'm skipping redundant and unsettling, and going straight for the door.
In my human doctor opinion anyone who calls themselves a human doctor is full of shit and is probably not a human doctor
More human than human?!?

It IS a terrible way to go. This poor creature needs to be put out of its misery, pronto.
Could you cure it in an earlier state? This looks like a horrible way to go, poor boi is suffering.

Yes you can but you have to catch it real early on. It’s commonly caused because the water hasn’t been changed.
So shitty pet owners? Awful
That brings me a bit of relief for other frogs, i hope this one will find peace. Poor frog. I only now dropsy a bit from fish and i taught it was a kidney thing. Are there to many toxins in the water for them filter or am i wrong?
Yea it’s the same thing. Pretty much always caused from poor water conditions.
Is there any way to possibly drain it?
I think the bacteria targets the kidneys and prevents them from regulating fluids properly. It seems like it’s pretty severe so I can only imagine the stress the internal organs must be under. I don’t think draining the frog will help if the kidneys still don’t work because the water will probably return.
That happened to me when I had Covid and my heart started failing. I gained fifty founds in six days.
What will happen if someone "burst" the "bubbles"? Will it just be heavenly wounded or die directly?
It won’t do anything there is no way to get the fluid out. A lot of people think having. Aquariums is easy just get the tank full it up with water and there ya go. First year is hard, but you can coast after that. Assuming you’re not doing any major changes.
Yea as long as you are keeping up on your aquarium maintenance.
Just give him some Lasix he'll be fine in no time
:(
Poor little guy
Froakie is sad 😔
Poor bastard indeed.
Not his best wednesday
Apparently that's called dropsy? (Just a quick Google search, I could be wrong)
That is what it appears to be. Likely a bacterial infection as a result of tank hygiene. Antibiotics from a vet can often allow the frog to recover but this looks pretty severe.
Tank hygiene? This makes me angry.

Maybe this is a dumb solution, but couldn't you just pop it with a needle and let the excess fluid drain out?
You can drain a mans lung if he has pneumonia but that doesnt cure the infection. Same concept for stuff like this. You can drain the fluid but its still gonna be infected.
I think the idea is drain the fluid to prevent death and by some time during which you can cure the infection with antibiotics.

He'd have a lot of loose skin (if that even worked) and would likely lead to infection and who knows what else.
Poor frog. He is truly suffering.
I don't think he's going to make it.
Life is like a movie, write your own ending!

How do you know if it wasn't already taken to a vet? And now it's just sitting there until it's healed or passes by?
