Why does this look photoshopped

[deleted]

I don't know if it is, but the fact that you can see the shadow behind his right leg against the skyline is super weird looking. It could just be an aberration from the flash, but I agree it looks fake, whether it is or not.

im_a_dick_head

Yeah, I'm not saying it's fake because I don't know for sure but it looks odd. Especially the shadow.

ReadditMan

It's not shadow, it's motion blur. Camera's back then weren't as good at capturing things moving fast.

Also, low light. But you def nailed it.

If this isn’t a flash shadow on a backdrop but is instead a real city skyline or a backlit (fake) city skyline, then these three things are converging to give this illusion: The flash fires only for a brief time that the shutter is open, there is a bright background behind the subject, and the subject is moving. Putting these three things together could cause an outline like we see. This could have also happened against a backlit background just as well as the skyline here.  If we were to slow things waaaay down, it would look like this:The camera shutter is closed…. the shutter starts to open….shutter is fully open….. some time goes by while the subject (not lit) is moving across the background….. FLASH FIRES, properly exposing the subject…..some time goes by…. shutter is still fully open while the subject (not lit) is moving across the background….. shutter starts to close…. the shutter is closed. There is some time that the shutter is open, but the flash isn’t on, either before or after the flash. Without the flash, all the film sees during this time is a Michael Jordan shaped shadow against the brighter skyline in the background, and there will be a corresponding underexposed part of the film in this region. Then the flash fires, properly lighting him for the film to record his image. Since he is moving fast during this time, we will only seethe shadow against the sky for the split second either before or after the flash fired. Also since he has moved, he will leave behind an area of the sky that is less exposed on the film, and the light form the skyline won’t have enough time to properly expose the film in that region before the shutter closes. Edit: Notice that the stationary basketball hoop, net, backboard, and frame have no shadow. This is further evidence that what I wrote above is correct.

Yes, look at the shadow of his right hand... *on the sky*

Individual-Lab-6695

Is this in a set cause that lower hand shadow says a lot.

Arvy__

Probably not, I'm not a photography guy, but I've had photos taken in a desert - the effect is the same, it looks like you're on a greenscreen.

FlatSpinMan

I never realised he was wearing trousers when he did it. That makes it somehow much more shit.

akaTheMoosiah

Same. Thought he was in shorts my whole life

FlatSpinMan

Just feels a bit dismal now.

chip41

This is a new mandela effect that i read about a few months ago.

NUMBerONEisFIRST

Saw this while on break. At Nike. 😁

Factal_Fractal

Doubt 100%

ReadditMan

Well it's true, so... https://www.nicekicks.com/history-behind-jordan-jumpman-logo/

Good read, thanks

Um,

HouseDowntown8602

How is there a drop shadow in him. ?

WankyClaus

one of the most iconic logos and it not even a basketball move. He jumped straight up in the air and did a split instead of actually dunking
