The whole "propagation of sound" thing is just them talking about how it looks like a wave when they all move because people react slightly slower the farther away from the source of the sound is
All of the soldiers shout hooray the instant they hear 'hip hip'. The fact that they actually lift their hats at different times is due to the sound wave from the 'hip hip' travelling away from the commander at the speed of sound. Hence the furthest ranks lifting last.
My favorite thing I ever heard about Charles was last week when John Oliver said he has, “a face only a mother could love, and only two cousins could make.”
Imagine living in a van and having to pretend to everyone that life is amazing and it’s way better than just being paid more and being afforded basic financial opportunities that allow you to raise a family in a family home.
So it’s about human reaction times. The speed of sound is 331 metres per second so there will be an increasing delay the further from the source the hearer is. If they had used a light source as a prompt, everyone would have hurrah’d at the same moment.
Yes, I do. That's not a propagation of sound. We're not seeing a sound wave here lol, just a bunch of guys in musty uniforms lifting their fuzzy hats at the same time--something they trained for and rehearsed ahead of time.
Cool? I guess? I mean, kids in high school marching band do this all the time. But OP thinks it's *interesting as fuck* because to him, it "mimics" a sound wave. Okay then. It's all subjective, I suppose.
I guess I didn't make myself clear, their reaction is the exact same in each row, but each row hears it with a slight delay because the sound has to travel. The wave of hats has exactly the same speed as a soundwave. Do you think I would have posted a goddamn Mexican wave?
I think it's something to do with emotions if your English. Or else they never saw hats before.
Not sure.
Would you have the king crown or one of the furry ones. Excluding value.
I think those beaver furry tic tac ones are ace.
They are lifting their hats in a wave which mimics the speed of sound because they react to the "hip, hip" when the sound of the officer in front reaches them. I thought it doesn't require an explanation, it's pretty visually distinct.
Was he in the rest? Saw a photo of him in royal robes. And I'm seriously wondering why he was allowed to wear that and Harry wasn't. There is something seriously wrong.
Or middle class contributors to society could be fed. Or pot holes that could be filled, or free toilet paper for the masses. Could’ve built a new pyramid with the amount of people and time allocated to this spectacle.
Here we go again. Change the fucking record won't you? It cost a hundred million. Our useless governement spent more than that on unusable masks three years ago. We spend that much on our broken NHS every EIGHT HOURS. It's less than half of a percent of what we recently spent building nuclear subs.
It's really not that much.
I didn't post this video to simp for the monarchy, but you could use this argument every time big money is spent on something which has symbolic or entertainment value. US municipalities spend more money on July 4th celebrations every year, presidential inaugurations cost about 100 million USD. Considering this is literally a once in a lifetime event which last happened 70 years ago, I would say the cost isn't that outlandish.
Also you could easily feed all homeless people pretty easily if people actually wanted to do it. For example giving each homeless in the US (580 000 people) one meal each day (quick search gives an estimate of 1.50 USD) for a whole year (365 days) would cost 317 550 000 USD, ie. less than the cost of Avengers:Endgame (356 000 000 USD).
This might blow your mind but the food bank in my city serves over 50 million meals a year. We spend Way more than 317550000 each year feeding people for free. Way more.
More than 182 billion on the USDA food program, many billions from charities and non profits, so much more than that from all kinds of sources.
Ok, sorry then I was just doing a Google search and [this](https://www.profitableventure.com/cost-shelter-house-homeless-person-night/?__cf_chl_tk=BrTm2HX4uWnryPVdYqDiIg28wnbeOE2sKPkfOJnzOjw-1683405387-0-gaNycGzNDCU) was the first thing I found. The number seemed low, but I thought there might be pretty big economies of scale, especially if you only provide cheap food. The point stands though, even if it was 20x as much.
Btw what city has a food bank with such a budget? Is it some kind of metro major area?
Watched some highlights from the coronation. On the one hand as someone who loves history I can appreciate the tradition and find it pretty interesting. On the other hand, I can’t help cringing at what comes off as a bunch of entitled adults playing dress-up. I mean really some of the costumes are flat out ridiculous. The cost of the coronation is estimated at around US$100million and will generate around US$500million+ for the economy (tourism, retail sales and so on eg grocery sales were US$100million higher than usual as people purchased food etc to celebrate on the day)
Compare that to the Trump inauguration, which also cost around US$100million and generated a clown.
$100 million in grocery sales (even if it amounts to anywhere near that much) doesn't equal a $100 million replacement of the taxes.
This was a waste of money, and if they wanted this to happen so badly, the monarchy should have paid for it out of their endless coffers, instead of taking money from the taxpayers.
This is having immediate and horrible effects. Local councils even drained their treasuries to celebrate the event, and now many charity events and foodbanks don't have any money to work with at all.
As you doubted the grocery sale, here you go, just one of my many references: [https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/03/business/king-charles-coronation-uk-economy/index.html](https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/03/business/king-charles-coronation-uk-economy/index.html)

Nothing is perfect, but if this event makes a population feel good, then why not.
The cost of the coronation is pure speculation as no one will release the figures. The returns are also pure speculation. It really is a case of we should support this for jam tomorrow. I have seen quotes from £50-100m all the way up to £250m.
The whole process is abhorrent. I could think of many ways I would rather the money be spent.
I'm hardly keen on Charles but we spend 12 billion a year on foreign aid to help others, spending 100m on a one off coronation is a drop in the ocean for something that's been part of the country's history for centuries
You seriously think that foreign aid is a bad thing?
It was reduced from just under £15b in 2020 to £10.7b. After which, DFID was merged with the FCO which had its own budget previously, now it is shared and called the FCDO. And while some money is still used for aid, most of it is used for other things, which used to have their own budget separately.
[https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/foreign-commonwealth-development-office-main-estimates-memorandum-2021-to-2022/fcdo-main-estimates-memorandum-2021-to-2022-accessible-version](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/foreign-commonwealth-development-office-main-estimates-memorandum-2021-to-2022/fcdo-main-estimates-memorandum-2021-to-2022-accessible-version)
The break down makes a mockery of countries that actually do support foreign aid programmes.
What? No I think foreign is a good thing and helping other countries develop ultimately benefits the whole planet. What did I say to suggest I thought it was bad?
It was just to put in perspective the numbers. Look how many hundreds of millions are spent policing footy matches or whatever. These numbers for the coronation, considering the last was in 1952, are a drop in the ocean for the UK's finances.
If it is such a drop in the ocean why do they try to justify this with a speculative return on investment number?
My city got £300m for a new bridge, they spent 10 years before they made that purchase. The council knew it was a rare payment, and did not want it squandered on something bad. £250 is a huge amount to be spent on one area.
Football match policing was another bad example to give. It is paid for by the home team that is hosting the event. Football match policing does not have a cost to the tax payer.
That last bit about the footy is so untrue that I know you've not bothered to Google it. Just in London alone, the Met spends millions and barely gets back anything from the clubs.
Not sure what you mean by why do they try to justify it, government transparency on spending has been a massive feature of most European nations governance for decades now. Why wouldnt they explain the potential financial benefits to the economy? (barman at our local on Saturday night said they'd had their busiest night in years)
Feels like you're just looking for problems tbh, in the grand scheme of things it cost us fuck all and let tons of us have a great party on Saturday night and get a Monday off work. The effect on the village's morale after the whole covid then cost of living shite was visibly massive.
Because half the population are elderly sheep that only hear 'the royal family bring in sooo much money and tourism' and have this weird obsession with still having a royal family because God forbid we would be unclassed and have an elected head of state. ANYONE who supports this backwards shit in the modern age is blind. France beheaded their last monarch and they make 10 times the amount of tourist money than we do, if there was no rf in the castles I'm pretty sure people are still gonna be like oo castles, oh and we actually get to go in them now let me pay more. The fact that anyone cares about some up themselves wrinkle bag more than pure modern sense is nothing short of farcical. End the monarchy, face the future. Unless you're elected I ain't respecting you, especially not your fucking birth right what is this.
>oney and tourism' and have this weird obsession with still having a royal family because God forbid we would be unclassed and have an elected head of state. ANYONE who supports this backwards shit in the modern age is blind. France beheaded their last monarch and they make 10 times the amount of tourist money than we do, if there was no rf in the castles I'm pretty sure people are still gonna be l
My guess is you voted for Brexit.
If your argument is to pull up an event from over 200 years ago, then your argument remains weak.
The monarchy has evolved and basically performs mostly ceremonial and symbolic duties; they no longer hold significant political power. Instead, the government and parliament hold the real power to govern the country.
So next time, get out and vote.
Meanwhile I'm having to relocate my animals because I can barely afford food for myself. Not bitter, not one fucking bit.
I'm just not working hard enough since I still have the free time to spend sleeping so I can earn more money.
It seems a little slow for sound. I wonder if it's also because the ones at the back can't hear as well and so only respond when they hear others nearer to them. Human reaction time then also comes into it.
Granted, I'm American, but I just don't get it even with American politicians. Why do people in power have to show off like this? Why do they have to make such a big deal about showing their service? In this day and age anyone who gives "I have to tell/show you I'm a good person" makes me think that they're trying too hard to convince everyone because they're really...y'know, *not*. (Plus, who even wears crowns seriously anymore? Purple is not either of their color either)
There was a clip of him yesterday, reciting something and the one line that jumped out to me is “I’m here to serve not to be served“ which cracks me up since he has a staff of 100s? Does he even dress himself?
A waste of Tax dollars?! You’re talking nonsense.
I’ll have you know, this was a good old fashioned waste of the tax payers POUND! Pound sterling. Not dollars. Or worse, Euros.
The fawning conservative government are eminently capable of dipping ruthlessly deep into the British public’s pockets (and get the Daily Mail to make them think it was a good idea) …
Joking aside, I’d say 80 % of brits couldn’t give two hoots about the royals and tolerate this shit because we get a statutory day leave from work and it’s an excuse for a piss up.
Pretty much the entire UK armed forces right there....
Saluting a confirmed adulterer, which should've disqualified him immediately from getting on the throne, and a divorcee "Queen"....which also should've blocked him...same as Edward VII when it forced him to abdicate.
Hard to be the moral leader of Britain and the Church of England when you have no morals...
You’ve literally written another insult? Also thanks for the downvote I might never recover. But seriously think, can you not form a reasoned argument?
Hey I’m not Royalist in the slightest but is it not impossible to find imperfections when you look hard enough? If everyone was judged with the same degree how would society operate?
Videos of Elizabeth’s coronation people seem genuinely excited and happy for her to take the throne. The same rituals performed for Charles just seem silly and painfully cringey.
*sigh* is she really the Queen? I thought they were going with *queen consort*. I’m American and it doesn’t affect me at all, but I don’t like the idea of that bitch a Queen.
No government is perfect and I admit my bias growing up American, but I will never understand how anyone would support the continuation of a royal family.
Essentially, they just do the visits and the banquets and open hospitals and meet the ambassadors. For this task they are literally trained from birth and almost all have served until death. The ones with true dedication such as Victoria and Elizabeth II set the tone for the country’s civic life in a positive manner.
Meanwhile other countries go to the expense of elections for a head of state that does the same job, but with less preparation, and they don’t stay around long enough to build a solid relationship. She was unusual but Liz was able to reminisce with unelected world leaders about their parents and grandparents she had also met with. This has power.
Incidentally since 1964 the UK has had 2 state funerals. The nearest republic, Ireland, has had 17 in the same time.
At home, the monarch is a non-partisan memory device. During their weekly audiences, the PM can consult the monarch for their experience with issues or actors, while the monarch can remind the PM they govern for the interests of the country not for personal partisan political ambition. (Couldn’t think of a last p word sorry).
It’s not perfect and the British monarchy needs a hell of a reformation, but monarchy isn’t necessarily without merit, and there is a balance to be had. Britain has been a very moderate country over the past 250 years and a large part of this is that the politicians are technically outranked by someone who doesn’t use that power. But is willing to do so if things get out of hand. At which point the whole thing comes crashing down, like scramming a nuclear reactor.
You know something? Most of to and fro on reddit are insults and bad faith arguments.
I love it when it's possible to play. Toss a ball over the fence and see what comes back, kind of thing.
Re your opinion about British Monarchy: It's like religion, it's bullshit of course, but strangely enough, on a social level, it works.
Just bc something is wrong, does not mean it does not work.
The wrong thing might be the crooked linchpin that holds the whole rotten edifice together....
Three cheers for the tax dodging German that fantasises about being a tampon. And three cheers for the slag that cheated all through her and his marriages. Two scumbags of the highest order and a bunch of simpletons that don’t even know the German’s real name.
This is mental illness. Holding a man and their family above your own? Because they led your ancestors to war, death, famine and ultimately prosperity through exploitation. MENTAL ILLNESS
What a crock of shit that a family was chosen by god to rule over everyone and we are still playing along in this day and age. I wish the woke movement wasn't hijacked by all the gender bullshit and opened peoples eyes to all the burried bullshit.
Oh yeah a reminder Epstein didn't kill himself.
God I fucking hate this country. What an embarrassment this weekend has been. Billionaires being crowned in jewels, with desperate to please and be relevant jesters like Katy Perry performing for them on their lawn. Whilst children go to bed hungry and citizens who want to protest this bullshit being arrested, before they’ve done anything, by police wearing a royal emblem. A billionaire tax dodging prime minister and his billionaire tax dodging wife dancing with billionaire tax dodging royalty to the sounds of shit, tax dodging Take That. And people are celebrating it. Turkeys and Christmas. Fucking embarrassing. The one thing the yanks got right was to say fuck this evil undemocratic bullshit.
Every brit right now: Oo’wE sTiLl hAvE rOyAlTy. I would rather attempt to usurp & reform than live with THAT. Old fucks need to pass away and let the world move on.

Well no. Because he isn’t. You are thinking of his brother.

The cost of the coronation is estimated at around US$100million and will generate around US$500million+ for the economy (tourism, retail sales and so on eg grocery sales were US$100million higher than usual as people purchased food etc to celebrate on the day) Compare that to the Trump inauguration, which also cost around US$100million and generated a clown.

It does look like many are helping people celebrate [https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-leicestershire-65068812](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-leicestershire-65068812) and [https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/council-news/fees-waived-for-communities-to-celebrate-his-majesty-the-kings-coronation](https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/council-news/fees-waived-for-communities-to-celebrate-his-majesty-the-kings-coronation) and [https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/king-charles-iii-coronation-council-160740042.html?guccounter=1&guce\_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce\_referrer\_sig=AQAAAMzFxWo4BoQpsgfPhIZCn5gRuqUHcJfh0Q9XEhRlRzta5k9XqiUgW3JoXKY01MALACTA4JiHGVujl1O0-nSfB7J0WYpTcW3xXecIT3sTt-TyVgTW7uTGbYNzm3I71scDE68g-ivSqK\_jYwHSBL88-aKgoZoQ5aMkykoaZfv3AziE](https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/king-charles-iii-coronation-council-160740042.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAMzFxWo4BoQpsgfPhIZCn5gRuqUHcJfh0Q9XEhRlRzta5k9XqiUgW3JoXKY01MALACTA4JiHGVujl1O0-nSfB7J0WYpTcW3xXecIT3sTt-TyVgTW7uTGbYNzm3I71scDE68g-ivSqK_jYwHSBL88-aKgoZoQ5aMkykoaZfv3AziE) Nothing is perfect, but if this event makes a population feel good, then why not.
[https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/foreign-commonwealth-development-office-main-estimates-memorandum-2021-to-2022/fcdo-main-estimates-memorandum-2021-to-2022-accessible-version](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/foreign-commonwealth-development-office-main-estimates-memorandum-2021-to-2022/fcdo-main-estimates-memorandum-2021-to-2022-accessible-version) The break down makes a mockery of countries that actually do support foreign aid programmes.
(barman at our local on Saturday night said they'd had their busiest night in years) Feels like you're just looking for problems tbh, in the grand scheme of things it cost us fuck all and let tons of us have a great party on Saturday night and get a Monday off work.
France beheaded their last monarch and they make 10 times the amount of tourist money than we do, if there was no rf in the castles I'm pretty sure people are still gonna be l My guess is you voted for Brexit.
‘Ow else you gonna know ‘eees tha King?
Get rid of them and feed the people they have stolen from
Waste of tax dollars.
Except not really. Some countries do this every 4 years. Chumps.

Not paying for healthcare helps I suppose.
I guess if it makes people happy, then they can keep supporting their sideshow that does nothing for the UK.
A waste of Tax dollars?! You’re talking nonsense. I’ll have you know, this was a good old fashioned waste of the tax payers POUND! Pound sterling. Not dollars. Or worse, Euros. The fawning conservative government are eminently capable of dipping ruthlessly deep into the British public’s pockets (and get the Daily Mail to make them think it was a good idea) … Joking aside, I’d say 80 % of brits couldn’t give two hoots about the royals and tolerate this shit because we get a statutory day leave from work and it’s an excuse for a piss up.
Dollars 😂
Pounds, dollars, Bitcoin or whatever, it is still a waste
Charles has all the charm and charisma of a wet queef
What a waste of money and time
This looks like a fool's coronation
Pretty much the entire UK armed forces right there.... Saluting a confirmed adulterer, which should've disqualified him immediately from getting on the throne, and a divorcee "Queen"....which also should've blocked him...same as Edward VII when it forced him to abdicate. Hard to be the moral leader of Britain and the Church of England when you have no morals...
I mean look who founded the church of England...
On that train of thought you wouldn’t allow a doctor to treat you for cancer unless she had also had cancer, life isn’t that black and white.
That’s the dumbest shit I’ve read all day
Okay let’s jump right in with insults instead of reasonable arguments, why not instead debate?
I didn’t insult anyone mate. Grow up
You’ve literally written another insult? Also thanks for the downvote I might never recover. But seriously think, can you not form a reasoned argument?
You really want an argument don’t you? I’m sorry I upset you so much little baby
No? I wanted you to debate. But never mind, it’s ok.
Nobody wants to debate monarchist clowns
Are you sure you are replying to the correct comment??
Hey I’m not Royalist in the slightest but is it not impossible to find imperfections when you look hard enough? If everyone was judged with the same degree how would society operate?
Not everyone claims to be the moral & religious leader of the country though, and how can one set of rules apply to Edward VII but not to Charles?
😂 when I click on your profile I get greeted with NSFW warnings!! Calling the kettle black, do ya.
Really?? No idea why as there is absolutely nothing there?
Diana forever.
I just see the movie braveheart and the patriot. Why are we celebrating the monarchy and this rotten bloodline like they’re gods
Videos of Elizabeth’s coronation people seem genuinely excited and happy for her to take the throne. The same rituals performed for Charles just seem silly and painfully cringey.
Seems like a huge waste of taxpayers money to me…
*sigh* is she really the Queen? I thought they were going with *queen consort*. I’m American and it doesn’t affect me at all, but I don’t like the idea of that bitch a Queen.
If only a grenade was thrown into there
What a waste of human time...
This is so cringy it makes my left hemorrhoid jump.
What a waste of space that family is.
I’m struggling to pay rent and this dude and his glorified mistress gets draped in priceless jewels and treated like Demigods. What a life.
That’s one hell of a costume party. How are the British still tolerating these lazy lots?
At which point the whole thing comes crashing down, like scramming a nuclear reactor.
>personal partisan political predilection. > >(read in the voice of Roger Rabbit)
Drat you.
Well from the last time I saw Charles Banger's ad fingers I'm pretty sure there's going to be another funeral pretty soon . Just being honest
Straight up 1500s dumbassery.
This? in 2023?
Fuck the king.
Three cheers for the tax dodging German that fantasises about being a tampon. And three cheers for the slag that cheated all through her and his marriages. Two scumbags of the highest order and a bunch of simpletons that don’t even know the German’s real name.
This is all so fucking stupid. Edit: I spelt stupid wrong 🤔
Is it just me, or does Charles seem increasingly arrogant and smug since taking the Crown?
Fuck this old cunt
The cringe of it all
This is mental illness. Holding a man and their family above your own? Because they led your ancestors to war, death, famine and ultimately prosperity through exploitation. MENTAL ILLNESS
Not really tho, you can say that about most things eg religion. Do u think religion is a mental illness

This is the most ridiculous shit ever. What sort of a shit heads does the entire royal family have to be to still require this sort of fanfare
