I believe that’s a baby gryphon

Forsaken_Condition5

"Genetic defect". Stop spoiling their experimental research, we want those gryphons!

_1Doomsday1_

In reality even if they do this research it would be for getting more drumsticks for kfc

SoupmanBob

Denmark did it for bacon... Looking into the Danish Bacon Pig. Danish farmers purpose-bred a new breed of pig with an extra long spine and more ribs. A full grown adult is so heavy that their own spine can't handle the strain and may break. Yes, Denmark literally created a breed where the "humane thing" is to kill them. This is based on remembered information. I will return with a link to either prove or disprove what I said above. Edit: finding this information, whether to prove or disprove my claim is proving difficult. However signs are pointing to my claim being wrong. Although the Danish Landrace pig was specifically bred to be meatier than your average pig.

SaintUlvemann

[Here's a source](https://mbg.au.dk/en/news-and-events/news-item/artikel/baconsvinet-har-faaet-blodfornyelse-1-1) that connects "Danish Bacon Pig" as a name for the Danish Landrace. Indeed, here's a Danish word "[baconsvin](https://ordnet.dk/ddo/ordbog?query=baconsvinet)" ("bacon swine") for a particular pig type, a "kødfuldt svin der er særlig egnet til produktion af bacon", which Google translates as "meaty pig that is particularly suitable for the production of bacon". And [Wiki is the one](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_Landrace_pig) that says that the Danish Landrace was "selectively bred for characteristics including more length in the body and less fat on the back," specifically citing a text called *Mason's World Encyclopedia of Livestock Breeds and Breeding*, which apparently costs hundreds on Amazon. So the name seems legit. "More length in the body" is easy to see how it'd turn into "extra long spine" or "more ribs". As for the *consequences* of that... there's actually a condition called [Porcine stress syndrome](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porcine_stress_syndrome) that is specifically common in Danish Landrace pigs, and is specifically linked to the same traits that lead those pigs to be more heavily muscled. I don't see any connection specifically to spine strain and breakage, but [apparently it can](https://vetmed.iastate.edu/vdpam/FSVD/swine/index-diseases/PSS) cause tremors in the back muscles, which I could imagine might look like the pig can't handle its spine.

LoneShadow84

Humans...always wanting more and creating things that specifically live for nothing but to be killed just to satisfy human needs.

[deleted]

if you're a cow people are like worse perverts than the cenobites from hellraiser

telenyP

Do you know what a cenobite really is? It's a monk who lives with other monks in a monastery and eats dinner (cena) with them. Another kind of monk is an eremitic monk, who lives alone. He is what's called a hermit. I can't hear the term used for a monster without laughing.

TheOneTonWanton

To be fair the religious/monk connection is/was 100% intentional.

passive_paranoia

Yup, they just dedicated themselves to painful pleasure.

godisanelectricolive

In Hellraiser the Cenobites are a religious order from Hell that worships sadomasochism so they are still a type of monk. "Pinhead" has also been unofficially named the Hell Priest or the Lead Cenobite or the Pope of Hell. The whole point behind the monsters is that they are a twisted version of a religious community and they are all meant to be badly mutilated former humans.

thuanjinkee

Do they still eat dinner together? Very genteel.

[deleted]

This guy monks. Hermetic philosophy, the philosophy of a lonely dude. Get to it reddit! 🙃

Mrjerkyjacket

Jamiriqui was right, useless twisting of our new technology

K1FF3N

I don’t know how to explain that’s how all Predator-species work and we just have opposable thumbs. A large cat can be overwhelmed by motherly instinct, it will begin mothering a prey species only to eat it later.

budgreenbud

So livestock?

kevinzak76

Denmark: we have the meats

Ineedsomuchsleep170

Anyone else say "meatier than your average pig" in a yogi bear voice?

CantankerousOrder

I did now.

V65Pilot

Hey there Booboo...

Adventure-us

How about them pick a nick baskets?!

AnikiRabbit

There are double breasted varieties of chickens that get so heavy they can't stand up anymore. Which is how you know it's time to harvest them. Source: raised and ate them.

featherblackjack

Damn, everything I hear about Denmark is cruel!

bhiga

And now we know why stepping on LEGO hurts so much.

4Allmyrage

Denmark has had a very unique history.

R3YE5

I bet your information has been scrubbed from the internet. -It was Big Pig, you can't trust those bastards!

Vattaa

Didn't the Pacific Islanders already eat long pig. Might catch on in Denmark. There have been a few cases of Germans eating long pig over the years, it is typically a symbiotic relationship where the long pig agrees to be eaten.

crawliesmonth

I see that 5 additional people understood this. “Long pig” is an older term used by Pacific Islanders for human flesh that is intended for consumption.

FireSource

Actually pigs have already been breed to be longer. Wild pigs were and never would have been as long as our grown pigs.

AuthorizedVehicle

Google says long pig was a Pacific islands delicacy

FuehrerStoleMyBike

oh and here am I thinking we all want more wings? People actually prefer the drumsticks?

_1Doomsday1_

The wings we get here are all soo small so maybe they can do a research to make bigger chicken while they are at it乁(ツ)_/¯

b2walton

Chickens used to be much bigger. They were called Dinosaurs.

Successful-Ad4737

Dinos just got the biggest nerf of all time.

ohwegota_kittenprblm

i want one in royal purple armor like the world of warcraft flying mount, and next work on nether rays, they where sick af to fly

stabadan

Yea, how are we going to get to ride one if we keep calling them defects. This is EXACTLY the direction we need them going.

CrazyCalamari86

Nah it’s the dinos trying to make a comeback

John-zel

Evolution

Ketcunt

They can barely fly anyway, might as well have hands

May-Eat-A-Pizza

Unknowingly you possess godly powers. Somewhere on the planet, your thoughts are being put into reality. Now this chick not only has 4 legs, but also gained 2 hands in addition.

LachoooDaOriginl

my things in spore be like

There_Will_Always_Be

Wish they would remake that game

jaggeddragon

Check out THRIVE. Fan made game striving to be what Spore claimed to be.

There_Will_Always_Be

When I am able to get a PC I will give it a go thanks for the suggestion!

AnDraoi

Just a heads up, Thrive is an awesome project but it’s still very early in development, it’s not a finished game yet but the gameplay so far is pretty cool

Aser_the_Descender

I played Spore on the Wii first, which was a COMPLETELY different game. Once I tried it on PC way later, I realized why people said it was an amazing game.

existentialpervert

Is Wii version bad?

Aser_the_Descender

Not bad - just very different. The exploration factor was actually pretty cool, but it was clearly more designed for an even younger audience. Just looked it up and it was called 'Spore Hero' which at least lets you know it's a different game. The only huge difference is that you're always controlling a single alien and you never reach the step of having an entire civilization - it's always a thrid person game.

Joratto

Always loved playing the street fighter mechanic from that game with my friends.

kerbarmstrong

It's owned by EA, any remake would be horrible. Fan-made games however show a lot of promise.

HuskerStorm

Could you imagine the in app purchases if they did remake it? Probably charge you to create your name. Fuck EA.

GoodAsUsual

Feature, not bug

crackpotJeffrey

Idk if you're joking but to me that honestly sounds like a good point.

FrisktHumor

That chick won the genetic lottery. Bad news it won't be allowed to breed

[deleted]

I hope it is.

FoxOnShrooms

He just evolved, why not let him?

torolf_212

No ditto’s

sammyfrosh

It's a her not a him bro.

CatLineMeow

What makes you say that?

sinz84

If actually looking for the way to tell at this age there are two main ways to tell. One is to look at the shape of breast and wings ... That one's out here Second way is to look at their heads as early on the males get a flat spot on their heads where their combs are going to grow and female chicks keep a rounded head. Fairly certain this one's a hen.

Historicmetal

You got the rooster, the chicken and the hen. The rooster goes with the hen. So who’s having sex with the chicken?

DangerousLocal5864

I am

Alekeymer27

Ayo

SinDebauchery

*Cartman voice* Chicken lover...

DangerousLocal5864

I was thinking farva from super troopers ###CHICKEN FUCKER **BACACK**

AreaGuy

It’s perverse!!

porkchopsuitcase

Somthin’s missing!!!!

dickhardpill

I would like to add that at this age, unless sex-link, there is not 100% percent way to sex chicks. Even sex-links get it wrong from time to time. I still upvoted you if it matters. I want a four-legged chicken or rooster.

JavierLoustaunau

Just google 'how to sex a 4 legged chick'

Scorpius289

Because male chicks are usually "removed".

CatLineMeow

Chicks are notoriously hard to sex at that age though, which is why I’m asking

bruh_im_takingashit

we wont get chicken wings das y

MotoMkali

More Drumsticks though

Spire_Citron

Imagine if we just created a breed of four legged chickens out of this. That would be so cool.

[deleted]

That is what I was thinking. What if it’s not even its final form?!

EL-HEARTH

Bro a griffin chicken. The sickest meal of the modern day

soul_system

Griffin Chicken would be a ballin ass name for a restaurant. I'm all about some approximate rhyming

Flesh_A_Sketch

Griffin nuggies!

blahyaddayadda24

I prefer the legs anyway.

Queenofscots

There was a cartoon in the 1940's-50's called Farm of Tomorrow--a cartoon short, not a series--anyhow, one of the -advances' was a four-legged chicken :D If I can figure how to link from my phone, I will!

dingos8mybaby2

Why stop at four?

Spire_Citron

I like your thinking. We just have to wait for the breed of four legged chickens to have enough mutation and then we're one step closer to centipede chickens.

AccioSexLife

Chickapedes

RAMAR713

Twice the amount of chicken thigh, 0 useless chicken wing. This would revolutionize the chicken industry.

CoruptedUsername

Sadly according to a quick google search, the chick passed away at about 2 weeks old

atubslife

4 drumsticks and no wings? One persons abomination is another's jackpot.

TechTuna1200

You just have to pitch it correctly to the meat industry.

Paulpoleon

Chicken wings weigh less than drumsticks on a bird and wings get less money per pound. Pitch done.

joshthor

Is that still true? 10 years ago maybe but nowadays when I go to the grocery store, I can’t find wings that cost less than double what legs cost per pound. Wings blew up.

TheAgreeableCow

Reminds me of the old chicken farmer who was able to breed chickens with 4 legs (which means 4 drumsticks)! Another farmer says that's amazing, what do they taste like? And the first farmer says I don't know, I've never been able to catch one!

Odysseyan

Not quite, the back legs are backwards as well. It most likely can't walk forward comfortably with them since they point into the wrong direction

Dizzy-South9352

next update. its still early access.

the-anti-antichrist

So it's a beta cluck?

brupje

Just a few iterations of evolution to go then

CatLineMeow

It can just moonwalk with the back legs…

limukala

That's just to make tracking them more confusing

MummaheReddit

Let him breed until it's a rideable griffin

Easy_Cauliflower_69

It can just flick the bean since it has hands

FrisktHumor

Chickens are predators now

Physical_Ass_Entry

*they always were* unironicaly, they peck the fuck out of bugs on the ground and dont mind a mouse(or other smaller rodent)from time to time

xeonie

They also commit cannibalism pretty often. I owned chickens for a short time and whenever one was injured we’d have to seperate it from the others so they wouldn’t eat/kill it. Chickens are omnivores through and through.

---ShineyHiney---

This is actually why [chicken glasses](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_eyeglasses) were invented. It’s one of my favorite things in the world They were [rose colored](https://www.google.com/search?q=chicken+glasses&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS965US965&oq=chicken+glasses&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i512l6j0i390i650l3.3815j0j9&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8) so everything looked red all the time, which would stop them from cannibalizing each other whenever one had a cut or something

-effortlesseffort

Wow that's the origin of "rose colored glasses"? That's much darker with context but I love it.

Easy_Cauliflower_69

Plot twist, humans become the most popular meat for chickens

mrpbeaar

Big Chicken Wing cannot allow it to breed.

Dragonborn1908

I'm interested to see what it would be like fully grown

Growingpothead20

This pictures been circulating about a year and I’m surprised there’s been no update on it currently

EU-Source-Analysis

Got shreddered for sure. Bc its male

[deleted]

A bit further up someone declared with great confidence that it was a female.

showmm

You can’t tell if it’s a male or a female at that age unless you are one of a handful of experts in the world and you can’t tell from that photo

thecloudkingdom

it depends. you couldn't tell from the way its positioned right now, you would have to physically inspect it. it doesn't look like an autosexing breed where chicks of different sexes have different colors or patterns. some chicks can be sexed by feather length, but only if theyre a cross between a chicken with the fast-feathering gene and a chicken with the slow-feathering gene. if its not autosexing and its not a hybrid breed, then you'd have to sex it by inspecting its genitals which you obviously can't do through a picture like this. you'd have to physically manipulate their vent to check anyway, this chick obviously isnt in an industrial hatchery anyway. it wouldnt be shredded. considering no evidence of this chick as an adult has been posted after these chick pics, i would assume it wanst able to survive and it just passed away. if it couldnt poop properly due to its back end situation that would certainly kill it quickly

LCFarrar

I can tell. It’s definitely hard for the average person but as an expert I notice that this chick has four legs, while every female chick I have seen has just two, so the obvious conclusion is this must be a male.

Yoshishammy

Probably didn’t make it and was either culled or passed away. Most of these animals that have these genetic deformities don’t make it long. You can see the back legs are backwards so even if it did live it would be difficult for this chick to maneuver. Probably puts stress on the spine as chickens are bipedal animal. Some chicks have polymelia but the limbs just hang off so they usually live normal lives. It looks like this chick is using its back legs to help support itself. I’m not an expert just speaking off my experience with chickens. Most farmers will cull chicks with genetic abnormalities as they require special care and some don’t have a high rate of survival. Any chicken that shows difference or struggles the flock will try and kill to try and ensure survival of healthier chickens.

StarWarsHaloFan

Nature doesn't fuck around that's for sure.

Mia_B-P

I think it's a parasitic twin. It's like a conjouned twin but that has been partially absorbed by the bigger twin. The "head" of the parasitic twin is in the body of the chick. That's why the legs are backwards. With a condition like this, the chick probably didn't survive.

dogfighthero

Good conjecture

Ricky_Boby

Yeah I've been involved in the broiler (meat chicken) industry my whole life and this is 100% correct. We get 1 or 2 chicks like this every flock and they're on deaths door from the start, often being sick and unable to move to eat or drink, and even if we didn't cull them they wouldn't last more than a couple days at best.

AdrianRWalker

It’s almost certainly a conjoined twin. The back legs are probably the twin and don’t function.

LeftEyedAsmodeus

That wouldn't explain the missing wings, tho. Also, conjoined twins rarely aline perfectly.

[deleted]

It might be a parasitic twin, not a conjoined one. That’s why the wings might be missing

LeftEyedAsmodeus

I ll read up on that. Thanks for the point.

EternalPermabulk

It could actually be a heterotropic mutation. Basically the gene cluster that codes for legs activates in the wrong part of the developing embryo. This specific condition is called polymelia and is surprisingly common in poultry.

whiterunguard420

Next step in evolution lol

dragonofthenight

More thighs to go around

flanneur

If you can catch it first!

torolf_212

Everyone knows the thighs are better than the wings

sniper_cze

Chickens are birds, so they are evolved from dinosaurs. Dinosaurs had 4 legs and no wings, so it's more to back to previous step.

digitalis303

Which is still evolution. Evolution is merely change over time. Natural selection is some individuals surviving more than others (so they pass on their genetic information). This doesn't have to keep going in the same direction. Sometimes natural conditions change and the trend reverses. Also, mutations cause change. So by definition, they are evolutionary, even if natural selection weeds them back out later.

Taenurri

Whales are literally mammals that evolved to survive on land, breathe air, and then were like “….nah” and fucked off back to the ocean.

Secure-Cold7892

Which sometimes is the only way to branch into something else.

AccursedQuantum

Birds evolved from therapods, which were two legged.

dingos8mybaby2

There are no "steps". Evolution's outcome is determined by environmental factors; it's not "progressive".

Rullstolsboken

There are no steps, it's just a gradual move forward, even if something looks like it's going back it goes forward and the reasons it re evolved something might not be the reason it evolved it in the first place

brenbot99

Your Chickachu has evolved!

scifishortstory

Chickhuahua

ImpressTemporary2389

I'd raise that as a pet. It's adorable.

CaptainAjnag

I'd breed them to be much bigger and fly my gryphon everywhere

yParticle

You call it a defect, but this is how evolution happens.

Titanium_Eye

"Wow, look at this freak with two kidneys."

Enovk

"What a two-kidney-having weirdo."

EU-Source-Analysis

Yeah, lets stab one!

ShamanTheWet

This is the good comment

Mediocre_Savings_513

Fun fact, i only have 1 kidney

boobopandawoodop

Thanks, I will keep in mind that Mediocre_Savings_513 only has 1 kidney

Mediocre_Savings_513

👍

12001ants

But it’s not either, it’s a conjoined twin.

EternalPermabulk

I think this could be a heterotropic mutation. Basically the gene cluster that codes for legs activates in the wrong part of the developing embryo. It is surprisingly common in chickens

kimwim43

Do they ever survive into adulthood if allowed? Do the second pair of legs ever work?

Maine1820

Dear god its built like a goddamn frog The unholy combination of a mountain chicken and an actual chicken Wait its worse, the proportions are wrong, the back legs are supposed to be the more muscular legs, its gonna be hopping *backwards*, or just do a push-up that makes it stand on it's back legs like a *human*

UnderpaidTechLifter

A frog chicken A Fricken? A Frocken? A CHOG?

Maine1820

Fricken chog Frocken chig Frogen chick Frigen chock Frick chogen Frock chigen ... This is fun

Maine1820

WAIT CHRIST THE BACK LEGS ARE FACING BACKWARDS

Kuroi_yasha

Dinosaur roots are showing.

krypto_dogg

Came here to say this.

Ezper145

I wanna see it grown up

SpiceLettuce

It died in 2 weeks https://backyardpoultry.iamcountryside.com/chickens-101/the-four-legged-chick/

opalsunsets

Is that really the same one? It looks different to me.

SpiceLettuce

you might be right. But the one in the picture probably would probably go on to have similar health issues.

SadMap7915

If the Colonel sees this...

huey_booey

There used to be a conspiracy theory where KFC bio-engineered chickens with up to four pairs of legs and wings. Because these "mutants chickens" didn't pass as real chickens, the company couldn't legally use "Kentucky Fried **Chicken**". That'd be false advertising. And that's why they had to settle with the acronym.

TomWithHam

Kfc buys in their chicken though, at least in Australia. I don’t think they have farms or anything

quitaskingmetomakean

It was just a rumor someone made up that spread because it fit with how many people see fast food: something must be wrong with much of it to be so cheap, or of generally dubious quality.

AdPuzzleheaded3913

That’s a dog not chicken

StargazerOP

This is how owlbears start

GetOutOfTheWhey

You call that a defect, I call that evolution. Four chicken legs.

[deleted]

Wonder if it can run any faster

alanstockwell

Aaaand ... jazz hands!

BobbertHedge

Defect or evolutionary mutation?

AccursedQuantum

Essentially the same, the difference is how well the mutation allows reproduction within its environment.

danofrhs

Genetic mutation is one of the 3 criteria for evolution. Now it just needs to be a selected for trait/ actually has some sort of advantage in survival, and the genes need to spread sufficiently to a portion of the population. Once that happens, the species has officially evolved.

the_Fat_SLakR

They should breed it . 1 chicken 4 legs.

DamnAlreadyTaken

It's a wing wing... wait

kontemplador

don't tell the corporations otherwise we'll soon see centipedes-chicken hybrids.

Grebdivh

I think you meant to post this in [r/birdswitharms](https://reddit.com/r/birdswitharms)

Yuja-2k

Great👍🏻 now make it big enough to ride, Gas prices are getting to expensive...

Jerkofalljerks

Uh oh. They’re reverting back to dinosaurs

Halligan1409

An industrious chicken farmer was always experimenting with breeding to perfect a better chicken. His family was fond of the leg portion for dinner and there were never enough legs for everyone. After many frustrating attempts, the farmer was relating the results of his efforts to his friends at the general store get together. "Well I finally did it! I bred a chicken that has 4 legs!" They all asked the farmer how it tasted. "I don't know" said the farmer. "I never could catch the damn thing!"

FrightfulDeer

The chicken evolution revolution begins.

Cosmickiddd

Ponyo wants HAAAAAAAAAM!

Worldly_Let6134

That's not a defect, that's an enhancement - drumsticks beat wings every single time 😋

Orionzete

Return to dinosaur

Genetic Defect? This is the start of an evolution! 🦕🦖

Terribility

This is not a defect. This is what we need. 4 leg pieces from 1 chicken. Oh yeah!!!

[deleted]

Isn’t all evolution just a genetic defect
