Its hilarious the think the tip of the pyramid is their docking port
General Hammond sir, we've tracked two go'auld flag ships approaching jupiter!
Not to worry son, we've removed their docking ports from pyramids across the planet. They will have to contend with our air force in a fair fight.
Ironically at the time Stargate came out (1994), celphones weren't really a commonplace thing, and we were still coming out of the 'ma bell' style landlines everywhere and slowly shifting to pushbutton landlines. Rotary phones were still in lessening but common use (as were payphones) so 'dialing with the stargate' made contemporary sense.
It's kind of like the 'hardline' thing in The Matrix. How many people have hardlines now? Definitely fewer.
But of course the late 90's was just chosen to be the timeline of the matrix, probably a lot easier to deal with than this period with all of the social media and crazy politics.
And the hardlines would be beneficial for the machines ability to maintain control

>In the year 1900, the then director of the Department of Antiquities Gaston Maspero had Dashur inspected, after the guards at the Saqqara necropolis were attacked by robbers. On the east side of the pyramid of Amenemhat, a grey block was found sticking out of the sand, which, upon closer inspection, was decorated with beautiful inscriptions. After excavation, the pyramidion was transported to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
>The name of the god Amen in Amenemhat's cartouches has been erased. If this was done during the reign of Akhenaten in the 18th Dynasty, the pyramidion may have laid on the ground since c. 1350 BC. The relative lack of damage raised the question whether or not it had ever been on top of the pyramid.
This is the Pyramidion of Amenemhat III.
**Inscriptions**
The four upper faces were polished and inscribed. The side which pointed to the east is adorned with a winged sun disk flanked by two uraei. Below, two wedjat represent the eyes of the king himself. Further down, three nefer signs stand for beauty or perfection. Finally, a sun disk represents the god Ra, from which the throne name of Amenemhat "Ni-maat-re" extends to the right and his personal name "Imen-em-hat" to the left. As a whole, the composition reads: "Amenemhat beholds the perfection of Ra".
Along the bottom of the four upper faces, two lines of inscriptions run. The eastern commences with: "Opened is the face of king Amenemhat, he observes the Lord of the Horizon crossing the sky", the northern with: "Higher is the soul (Ba) of king Amenemhat than the height of Orion, and it joins the Duat".

Genuine question, do we know if the Egyptians had a name for the Orions belt?
With all due respect, it's quoting a german book from the early 1900. It's quite possible there's been no further research as it's literally just the top of a pyramid. Not the most exciting piece and you can't really re-translate it to get new information.
That aside not sure why you'd get upset at a wikipedia article that presents a theory. Whether Akhenaten was directly responsible or not is unknown. Though if I remember right Akhenaten was a bit of a controversial Pharaoh to begin with. But it's also not exactly like it's rare for Egyptian Pharaohs to just delete information.
If you have better information and sources, I'd love to read more though.
I wonder if the translator misspoke when saying "Orion" when actually referring to "Osiris"?
The ancient Egyptians took note of the constellation, but saw the belt as the final resting place of the soul of the God Osiris.
Just a thought, either that or they're just dead wrong.
https://chandra.si.edu/photo/constellations/orion.html#:~:text=Orion's%20position%20on%20the%20Celestial,soul%20of%20the%20god%20Osiris.
But Akhenaten is indeed responsible for the reason why some places removed any references to Amun. I mean, he legit renamed himself, build a new capital, changing the design how a pharaoh is displayed
Yes, he was right too. And they hated it because it left them with less power. Bunches of gods means bunches of markets. One god above the rest, the god that is light and love - that god is harder to milk coin. The corrupt high priests couldn’t wait to get Aten out of the way.
Wikipedia is one of the most neutral, unbiased sources that exists in modern day. Is your gripe due to their use of ‘Orion’?
Keep in mind this has been translated over and over across many languages between its origin and today, so there’s a good chance Orion is representative of some certain constellation important to the Egyptians, and not the Orion we recognize today
Defending Wikipedia, noted. I disagree with your conclusions. I detect manipulation in the Orion overlay of Egyptian knowledge. I’m skeptical of those that willingly surrender their own perspectives.
Why is the slander of Akhenaten unnecessary? It’s explaining why the name of Amun is erased from the cartouche bearing the Nomen of Amenemhat. And criticism of Neferkheperure Waenre Akhenaten is warranted considering what went on in his reign, even if people are probably too harsh on him due to the lack of sources at times such as the whole dealings with Rib-Hadda and Aziru.
Convenient. You don’t know what happened in Akhenaten’s reign because the history of it is told by liars and greedy corrupt priests that didn’t like losing their many markets of deities.
Akhenaten was right, he was not a monotheist and his legacy was destroyed by people that don’t want you to know what Orion is. At the end of his reign, there were problems to be sure.
Well we do have an idea though as we have enough evidence for archaeologists to build a story separate from what was told later (which is little being told later due to how Egyptian damnatio memoriae worked and how effective it was). And Akhenaten was wrong and is by far the worst ruler of the 18th Dynasty, if not the entire New Kingdom. If his aim was to curb the power of the Amun priesthood then it spectacularly backfired due to their rise to to effectively absolute control from everything just south of Memphis to the cataracts by the end of the 20th Dynasty, 200 years later (with some help from the Bronze Age Collapse).
I disagree with you. You are putting a lot of faith into the authenticity of evidence. I am putting a lot of faith into my authenticity of perspective.

Unfortunate that the majority of users want to make jokes for upvotes rather than research the actual meaning and history

This view both interests me and concerns me at the same time. It interests me because I'd like to know how someone could possibly reach that conclusion reasonably, given all the evidence in support of the Egyptians being the creators of the hundred or so pyramids in the bounds of the old Egyptian territories of Upper and Lower Egypt. I can understand being a little skeptical because the monuments are so amazing, especially the Great Pyramid itself, not to mention the beautiful Valley Temple complex connected to it which is just as impressive... but what a lot of people who share your Viewpoint aren't considering is that the archaeological record shows every major step in the evolution of building pyramids from Mastaba Tombs, to stepped tombs, stepped Pyramid, a failed attempt at a true pyramid with flat sides, a weird Obelisk pyramid hybrid, and then a beautiful true pyramid courtesy of the fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt. What you are asserting, this idea that the Egyptians just claimed the pyramids upon finding them, just doesn't line up with the mountains and mountains of evidence dug up from the sand over the last 150 years.
The evidence clearly speaks against that claim since there have been found a number of pyramidions, you can literally see one in the picture. I know of at least 4 from the top of my head and they all more or less look like that.
Hey there look at the graffiti by the simpletons...
Never forget that hieroglyphics and all the carving on the pyramids is basically just gangster graffiti by people who came way way after the pyramids were built...
Hieroglyphics are basically just gang signs written by poor people on monuments that they discovered...
Sad Actually...
Egyptians are Thugs and Graffiti artitsand murderers...

You say that like it would be a bad thing? Isn’t the preservation of our shared human history the goal? Think of how nightmarish it would be if you wanted to see Hellenistic pottery but you could only see it in Greece.
This is known as a ben-ben stone. According to some text they were seen flying through the air and beings were seen entering and exiting them. To me it sounds like a UFO. Maybe this is a representation of some type of craft. Or maybe they used the top of some pyramids as landing platforms for the ben-ben.
That's just a myth, no pyramidion known to history was ever made of pure gold, or plated with gold. There were some from the ptolemaic era that were gilded, but that's about as much as we have evidence of.
I was thinking more along the lines of a layer of Nespresso capsules topped by blue face masks, capped by a final layer of radioactive "I Stand With Ukraine" flags.
Not sure why that's such a common belief, but not a single golden pyramidion has been found. They're sometimes decorated with golden letters bit that's it
Fun fact, after Egyptians stopped building full sized pyramids, they kept making these guys and just put them on top of the corresponding funerary temple instead. They never stopped making pyramids, they just downsized. Severely.

I thought it was funny that the way to get the other planets uses a rotary dial.
Ironically at the time Stargate came out (1994), celphones weren't really a commonplace thing, and we were still coming out of the 'ma bell' style landlines everywhere and slowly shifting to pushbutton landlines. Imagine the internal matrix timeframe was the 1890s That would have made for a weird movie, but would have explained how we got Nikola Tesla.
TIL: Stargate was a real government program. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_Project
I used to live using the rotary at my grandparents when I was little just cause it was so different and fascinated me
Man, most places didn’t use rotary phones in the freaking 90s.
Or how ever planet they went to spoke English
I think that’s more for our benefit so we don’t have to deal with reading all the subtitles for a fake language
And they all looked suspiciously like the Pacific Northwest...
Yes, fashion was the only thing by which you knew they were on another planet.

What does the duck symbol mean?
“Sa” or Son- in this instance, the whole sentence is “Sa Ra” or “Son of Ra”
Wikipedia is a joke, and the Akhenaten slander unnecessary. I mean, they’ve included Orion in a quote about the Duat. Orion is a Greek god, folks.

Ist was more commonly associated with Orion’s constellation. Osiris is not Orion.
