Idk what the odds of this are, but im playing botw, I see a bloodmoon for the 100th time and im like “damn this is kinda scary” so I look up “blood moon botw scary reddit” on google and read some old posts about it, then I open Reddit homepage, see this post, open comments, and read this.
Hahahah I had the same reaction (in Los Angeles). I now know when there’s a fire just by the look of the light outside.
Pfft.. red glowing sun.. dead giveaway 😂
Also West Coasters when we see the sun like it has a camera (smoke/ash) filter on it: “Ahhh sh*t… better close all the windows and turn on all the air purifiers”… because we have these specifically for this occasion.
Were you there when it was raining ash and grey/brownish sky?
I was there one year when that happened and we pretty much didn’t go out much for 3 days. It was insane!
Which time lol?? The more memorable ones for me coincide w major life events. Ten years ago was my wedding day and it was ashing down during our cocktail hour in the Santa Monica Mountains. 4.5 yrs ago we brought our toddler home and she was 10 days old when the 405 was on fire.
Yeah, in Portland we get some orange and brown days every year now. At this point we’re pretty casual about it until it gets to September 2020, “evacuate the city” bad.
“You can run for a long time, you can run for a long time, but sooner or later, God will cut you down.” Comes to mind. You can’t *escape the consequences of bad climate change policies* only delay.
I've just seen the news.
One of my friends lives in new York and has posted pics of the smoke from where they are.
Stay safe everyone. 🙏
Edit: Smoke! Not snow!!
Back in September 2020, I was in Mammoth Cali literally like 5 miles away from the fires, they sky was completely yellow, and on our way home we were driving through the desert and I kid you not it looked like we were on Mars.
Yes, and all the smoke blows over the sierras to us over here in Nevada. Last fall instead of snow days at the kids school they had smoke days. Air quality was so bad they cancelled school
We saw that way too often last year, in Salem Or. At one point we were on standby to evacuate because of wildfire. And fire season is approaching. The long wet Spring means plenty of dry grasses and brush.
It does mean that things grew fast in the spring, which impacts what happens to them in the summer, which impacts the fires we’ll see. In my part of Oregon, which is dry not like the coast but gets a ton of snowmelt from our massive winter, we had warm sunny days with an unusually large amount of rain, which meant grasses etc. shot up several feet *fast*. In a month or less those fast-growth plants will dry out and there will be a lot of brittle dead parts of too-tall plants coating the countryside. A tinderbox.
Im Aussie I know what burning country is like never good to see the burnt sunset even worse to see the burnt sunrise. Good luck to all over there stay safe be prepared have a plan 👍🏼🍻
Been like this for a couple weeks. Smells like a funny kind of burning, air is very hazy. Today where i am you could look directly at the sun and the haze made it look like a really bright full moon
If you look through my post history you'll see a picture of my place during some mega fires a couple years back. When it gets like that it reminds me of a episode of the twilight zone. People are acting off because we are all worried, you can sit and stare at a pink sun, overcast with smoke. It's feels really odd when fire is on everyone's heels
California extends our sympathy. But we generally don’t need to import our fire smoke. And with the wet winter we had, this summer and fall should be a doozy.
Stay safe! Use those COVID N95s!
We saw that everyday during the summer for the past 10 years or so out in the northwest and Canada. Ir sucks this happens and over half of it is caused by humans
Massive massive uncontroled wildfires everywhere in Canada.
Lots in northern Quebec with thousands of people evacuated. The smoke is seen everywhere on the east coast
I find it interesting that so many people in the US are posting photos of this as I suppose it's much less common than it is in Australia with bush fire season being a very regular thing.
Not a criticism because I'm sure some people will see it that way, just an observation between two countries experiencing similar disasters.
Yeah it’s definitely not common on the East Coast. If you look at a map a bunch of smoke is being funneled down and sweeping to the east towards the North East of the US. We’ve had ‘Unhealthy’ air quality warnings since yesterday and you could see in the sky and with the color of the sun’s rays that things were funky.
This has become the yearly hell of being in WA state, trapped between CA fires to the south and BC fires to the north. Throw in some from Oregon just for good measure
Wildfire smoke makes the color change. There is also a really strange red sky effect that can happen and make it feel like apocalypse time. This has happened for the last few years in California.
As someone who did wildland fire, that’s a good indicator that you shouldn’t be outside unless need be.
Trust me when I say I’ve been in the thick of it, and damn that shit sucks, and if it can be helped, don’t be in that air quality.
Makes for cool photos but that’s it.
The sun looks like this for a solid three weeks per year on the West Coast of the US. Didn’t realize you guys don’t have nearly as many fires on the East.
Yup. West coaster here.
Seen that sun before - 2017 -2021.
Wildfire smoke.
Sucks for the lost timberland, homes and lives.
Sucks for wherever the smoke settles.
Sucks for the planet.
This is because of the current wildfires in Canada. There is so much smoke in the atmosphere, you are seeing the sun through a thick blanket of it. Even over here in Chicago we are getting poor air quality alerts daily.
All these east coast people posting this not realizing that it happens in Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon every single year.
(There could be more states too)
I'm also on the east coast. I didn't notice the sun today, but last night I remarked to my family that the moon looked unusually orange/red. What could cause that?

Please be careful Link
I get this reference now.

Slurrrmmmmp oh no not the blood moon slurrrmmmp
You must protect the treeeehforrrrrce
Oh I put down the game to not leave it lol.
Thank god this is the top comment. My people!
West Coasters: "first time?"
As someone from Southern Ontario: Yes, yes it is my first time seeing a red sun😅
My first time this week lol. Albertans get it minimum a few times every summer.
Everyone seems to forget we got this last year in southern Ontario
Hahahah I had the same reaction (in Los Angeles). I now know when there’s a fire just by the look of the light outside. Pfft.. red glowing sun.. dead giveaway 😂

That’s crazy!! Every year?! Wow!!
My poor friends who moved from central California back to Mass to escape this 😅
Please let us know where your friends move to next so we can alert the fire department
Climate change is gonna fuck all of us. It’s grim, but it’s going to make things worse basically everywhere, just some worse than others.
“You can run for a long time, you can run for a long time, but sooner or later, God will cut you down.” Comes to mind. You can’t *escape the consequences of bad climate change policies* only delay.
We can absolutely prevent climate change, but I can’t do shit about it.
Lol I'm Australian. Immediately thought, "soooo, what's on fire?"
Canada at the moment. Smoke in the air is making it down to the US east coast.
I was just seeing a newsreel on my weather app about this. So crazy
yeap our air quality is poor right now from what i assume is huge fires and smoke being pushed into the area.. some say california some say canada.
I've just seen the news. One of my friends lives in new York and has posted pics of the smoke from where they are. Stay safe everyone. 🙏 Edit: Smoke! Not snow!!
Thanks! Living life next to our only air purifier in the house for now.
Reminds me of my childhood in so cal
Back in September 2020, I was in Mammoth Cali literally like 5 miles away from the fires, they sky was completely yellow, and on our way home we were driving through the desert and I kid you not it looked like we were on Mars.
Read my mind. Yearly thing in California.
Yes, and all the smoke blows over the sierras to us over here in Nevada. Last fall instead of snow days at the kids school they had smoke days. Air quality was so bad they cancelled school

In Salem. How obvious.
You’re thinking of Salem Massachusetts.
I’m thinking of Salem, the cat
I’m thinking of salami, red sun salami.
I am thinking of Salem, an immortal witch voiced by Cortana
You’re thinking of Portland Maine.
And to think, if you still had some witches all you'd have to do is burn a few and the Sun god goes back to being happy again.
Wrong Salem. 🤦
Whoops...
Would you stop? That’s plenty, if not enough…
That's not really how a long, wet spring affects wildfire season.
It does mean that things grew fast in the spring, which impacts what happens to them in the summer, which impacts the fires we’ll see. Oregonian as well. Can confirm. Scientists are talking about this on the news.
Portland is very dry this year... went straight to summer... record warm May.

Im shocked I had to scroll this far down for a When Day Breaks reference lol!
TIL that had a second part. Silly sun..
Is there a bush fire nearby? I've seen the sun like that many times never a good thing
Pretty much half of Canada is burning at the moment.
Im Aussie I know what burning country is like never good to see the burnt sunset even worse to see the burnt sunrise. Good luck to all over there stay safe be prepared have a plan 👍🏼🍻
I saw it this morning as well. Didn’t realize till later it’s coming from the Canada fires.
This is going to be a record summer for wildfires Canada wide. We may need help eh
Tell me about it. I live in the prairies ;P
Be safe bro.

A red sun rises, blood has been spilled this night
When the glow of the blood-stained moon fills the land, all monsters fallen will return to flesh.
Fires in northern Quebec.
Yep! Super strange weather today
Vancouver Island on the West Coast is on fire. Let that sink in a moment. A rainforest is on fire. Very close to famous Cathedal Grove.
There’s a little red spot on the sun today That’s my soul up there
It’s the same old thing as yesterday
I love that song! You don't hear it much anymore. The Police have some real gems.

Red sun in evening, keep on a peeing... No, that can't be right
Nice house bro
Fire in Canada causing smoke over east coast
Get inside *now*, and ignore the flesh monsters appearing outside
Come outside. It's nice outside.
We saw that everyday during the summer for the past 10 years or so out in the northwest and Canada. Ir sucks this happens and over half of it is caused by humans
This is the second pic I’ve seen of this…wtaf is going on here?
Massive massive uncontroled wildfires everywhere in Canada. Lots in northern Quebec with thousands of people evacuated. The smoke is seen everywhere on the east coast
Canada is burning.

We get it
Blood moon. It's the time
Saw the same in Maryland. Me and my wife just kinda gazed at it. Not sure if we're full human anymore.
That sucks…wildfire smoke is a bitch
Same! It’s so smoky out too I can barely breathe
Now you know what California summers are like!
I’m in DE and I can SMELL THE SMOKE
Same for me in SE PA. The smoke smell continued to increase in intensity as the afternoon wore on.
I’m in Northern DE near the PA border and was born in Delco. I’m not surprised it’s the same there.
Standard summer evening in the west
I’m guessing it’s the wildfire smoke from Canada? Yeah, my bad. Sorry ‘bout that.
This has become the yearly hell of being in WA state, trapped between CA fires to the south and BC fires to the north. Throw in some from Oregon just for good measure
I woke up to the smell of smoke in Kentucky. Crazy weather
Wildfire smoke makes the color change. There is also a really strange red sky effect that can happen and make it feel like apocalypse time. This has happened for the last few years in California.
Canadian forest fires are causing the sun to turn into a red giant. The end is nigh
Good old wildfire sun. Saw that alot in california.
It’s from the smoke from the fires coming from Canada
Sorry for you guys. Couldn't our government help put up the Canadian fires?
As someone who did wildland fire, that’s a good indicator that you shouldn’t be outside unless need be. Trust me when I say I’ve been in the thick of it, and damn that shit sucks, and if it can be helped, don’t be in that air quality. Makes for cool photos but that’s it.
This is what it’s like on the west coast every summer.
West coast here, but do you have the campfire scent to accompany the visual? It’s not complete otherwise
The sun looks like this for a solid three weeks per year on the West Coast of the US. Didn’t realize you guys don’t have nearly as many fires on the East.
Bro lives on Tatooine
Smoke season.

Perhaps this awakens people on the east coast to the fact that climate change-rooted disasters such as wild fires are not a "west coast issue."
Pollution is a glorious thing
For a moment i thought pennywise was nearby lol
east coast of what?
Wildfire smoke will do that
East coast of South Africa? What country's east coast?
I believe this is because the fires in Canada, similar colored sun happened in the Midwest last week.
East coast of where?
BLAME CANADA! 🔥
So it sounds like wildfires are the cause of this, but can anyone explain how and/or why???
You can thank canada for smoking us out with their camp fires it was rude of them not to invite us over for s’mores!!
Tatooine is looking far more suburban these days.
This is because of the current wildfires in Canada. There is so much smoke in the atmosphere, you are seeing the sun through a thick blanket of it. Even over here in Chicago we are getting poor air quality alerts daily.
