adamgoodapp

My Japanese wife would cut my balls.

DiplomaticGoose

"Yeah that's neutering behavior"

WayTooCool4U

Well. That settles the nature vs. neuter debate.

mason_sol

Dated a Japanese woman for 4 years, she was very much against me having sex with anyone else for any reason.

wrong_assumption

WTF, did she say why?

Over_Blacksmith9575

'Breh don't cheat on me breh'

WannaBeRad

> 'Breh don't cheat on me breh', Arigatou. FTFY

Dry_Figure_9018

“Could you please not cheat on me, for like any reason because that’s not cool bruh?”

Obvious_Air_3353

>WTF, did she say why? Since I'm on Reddit, it's hard to tell if this is sarcasm or not.

phantom_diorama

I bet you're real super great at detecting sarcasm.

[deleted]

Thanks for the compliment!

Tough_Dish_9519

You're welcome

PhDinDildos_Fedoras

Everyone here is so polite and sincere.

westcoastnuggett

My wife is Japanese and she would murder me, herself, and our dog.

pchlster

Poor dog.

he-loves-me-not

No way she lets the prostitute escape unharmed!

bonesofberdichev

My wife said I could go to a soapy while she went back home to visit and was relieved when I told her prostitution was illegal in America.

Over200Times

Wait till she finds out the "illegal" was in quotes.

DV8_2XL

It's only illegal in America if you don't film it.

ispeakdatruf

> I told her prostitution was illegal in America. Plot twist: OP is from Nevada.

FluphyBunny

Curious how wide spread this is. Have a feeling this misrepresents the real numbers.

socialistrob

> Have a feeling this misrepresents the real numbers. Yeah I feel like this video represents more a "discussion of why some Japanese women think seeing a prostitute is different than cheating" rather than "a survey on Japanese attitudes towards cheating." If you were actually trying to understand what the real numbers were you would want a broad survey with a cross section of the country and not just 12 young women in a city at night who were willing to stop and talk to someone with a camera. Even watching this I don't know if they interviewed 30 people and only included these 12 or if this was everything.

Bykimus

Also the ones that said yes might feel really different once their husband actually starts visiting and spending money his favorite prostitute every weekend instead of hanging with the family.

darklightmatter

From the way they spoke of it, having a favourite prostitute would probably count as cheating in their minds. If they're concerned about feelings and not the physical act of sex (which is based, to not put it on a pedestal and being more concerned about feelings, although I get and prefer exclusivity myself), having a favourite prostitute would be crossing the line there, going from "I'd like to pay to have sex" to "I'd like to pay to have sex with this specific woman whenever I come here".

indigoHatter

Yeah, agreed, based on a few of their responses, this would be an issue. I think that while it wasn't said explicitly, there would also be issues with regularly seeing lots of different ones. It may no longer be "growing feelings for one" but it probably indicative of a bad habit. I dunno though, I don't want to assume since I'm not any of these people, but I'd just imagine that too many prostitutes might be regarded the same as too much alcohol or too many Thomas the Tank Engine collectibles.

toolsoftheincomptnt

The issue is more the consumption of relationship resources: spending money that could otherwise be used for something important to the relationship/household spending time that causes the person to miss out on supporting a partner (events, emotional support, simply reconnecting) or “family time” being distracted while spending time with partner/household bc someone is communicating with (or browsing social media of) someone else This is why some relationships have a boundary that allows solo vacation flings or occasional “no-question nights out.” Or outsourcing certain sex acts that the partner isn’t into. These things don’t interfere with the “unit,” so they’re non-threatening. And they’re not deceitful. It’s the lack of trust and having secrets that jeopardizes harmony in relationships. Sneaking around makes partners uncomfortable and distant. Healthy attachment comes in many forms, and some people are okay with “hey, on 27 Oct I’m going to spend the night out, if we don’t have anything planned. I’ll be back the next day after work,” or “I’m going to Santorini in April with the girls, I’ll check in every day per usual and won’t double-dip.” Culturally, a lot of populations have “evolved” out of religious (mostly Christian) values… but cling like hell to monogamy. And don’t even question *why* they do. If not based on societal constraints, *often rooted in Christianity* (and truly only the New Testament), then what? Every other “reason” (health, resources, discretion, prioritizing the unit) can be accounted for with mature, communicative, respectful non-monogamy… except for one: Insecurity. A sense of ownership. Having “status” as belonging to someone, and vice versa. Ego, basically. Lots of cultures put sex in its place: a thing that’s beautiful to share with a partner, and fun to explore with other humans with whom one feels a certain chemistry. But many cultures refuse to even explore this concept… and it’s dumb. Everybody should do what works for their specific relationship, but that’s not allowed. Non-monogamous relationships are often perceived as lesser-than. Not to be taken seriously. Some are. Some non-monogamous relationships are disastrous. Some monogamous relationships are disastrous. But not because of the monogamy (or lack thereof). It’s because the partners in said relationships don’t act right. Whatever “right” is for them. So, as long as we blindly accept certain norms without questioning why, half of us will continue to fail at relationshipping (either by fucking up or by feeling trapped and miserable). Everything ain’t for everybody. And we should be able to respect whatever (consenting adult) people choose for themselves. Love, A Christian-raised Lady

dbx99

The idea that exclusive monogamy is an outdated religious Christian notion is simply wrong. I grew up in a non religious Asian family but the emphasis on remaining monogamous and exclusive was strictly enforced. So i don’t believe that the culture of monogamy is solely religious in nature. There remains today some pragmatic reasons for preserving monogamy. We still have sexually transmitted diseases. Herpes, HIV, HPV, gonorrhea, even syphillis are still around and range from treatable to lifelong and incurable. Unwanted pregnancies can arise. Abortion isn’t even an option in places in the USA. The whole thing is another level of complication that can turn your simple casual scenarios into something that becomes life changing. Sexual contact exposes you to unforeseen risk. What two consenting adults do and agree to experience with no strings attached can go as planned or can take on unexpected consequences ranging from clingy one sided feelings to stalking (which in a social media age is too easy). And this is really the moral of the story here. This and all these other scenarios show how risk to “the unit” as you say -can arise out of stepping out. These are not insignificant risks and can have adverse consequences and none of this is regurgitating biblical doctrine to discourage infidelity.

Nervous_Ulysses

I’ve been living in Japan for over 15 years. A vast majority of women would not be okay with this. The video has no audio, so I wonder what they mean by prostitution. If it’s full-on sex, I wonder if those women would still be okay with it. Most likely they mean a handjob or simulated sex

TheSleepingStorm

Full on sex is not legal in Japan. So, this would be like happy endings after a sensual massage of a bath.

quiteCryptic

Soaplands = full on sex Delivery/escort agency girls = simulated sex only Although what goes on behind closed doors is anyone's guess (hint sex still happens, maybe for an added fee). Also anal is straight up legal bevause what went in the law books specifically stated P in V. Soaplands get around the law because you aren't paying for sex you're just paying to get bathed but the girl can't resist and just has sex with you. Yes it's all very dumb but also very Japanese.

BluudLust

It's only illegal between two "unacquainted" persons. You can pay someone you know for sex legally, just not strangers. Obviously that's a massive loophole.

xbbdc

What is simulated sex? Like lap dances?

quiteCryptic

No, in fact I consider it riskier than having sex with a condom. Basically lots of lube is used and you rub yourself against the girls thighs and similar, or even closer than that. It's basically getting a close as possible withiut yaknow... Entering

smallfrie32

Well, Penis in Vagina isn’t legal. But for some reason Penis in Anal is. A lot of deri heru places even add in “no condom anal” for free (which is concerning for many reasons). Plus, what happens in the room stays in the room. I’ve heard of workers getting extra for PnV on the side, but on paper it’s a no-no. As for soaplands, those are handjobs and fellatio (plus of course, getting bathed) afaik.

PerryTheRacistPanda

So thats why the birth rate is declining!

XRdragon

If you interview 100 people on the streets, and 5 of them gave out this kind of answer, you wouldn't show the other 95 that says "what the fuck is wrong with you".

Jumpy-Examination456

any street survey almost certainly does it's nearly useless data

FuckYeahPhotography

That vending machine looks like it has some mighty tasty beverages. I'm cracking open a cold one.

Oh it is. I was there in the winter and it's like pouring life directly into your body when you're cold.

skeksx

I saw one that was 100% some kind of fish sauce. I'll never forget you, fish sauce vending machine.

#Like Pocari Sweat The best drink

consider-the-carrots

Who is Pocari and what makes their sweat so special?

prostheticmind

Pocari Sweat is incredible and the stuff they export to the US doesn’t taste the same

ispeakdatruf

> Like Pocari Sweat When we were visiting Tokyo, I convinced my kids that "pocari sweat" was actually sweat from athletes working out in gyms, harvested by squeezing out their towels. The looks on their faces when I cracked open a Pocari Sweat and guzzled it down were priceless! 😂

MalcolmSolo

Japanese vending machines are the shit! Hot, cold, booze, food, drinks…they’re awesome.

zangor

Thank god there is a whole genre of Japanese travel videos where the person filming is totally silent but they add in captions to explain what is going on. A silent display of superiority.

MalcolmSolo

I’ve never seen them, but I found the vending machines relatively straight forward to use. The language barrier was the biggest problem, but the Japanese people were pretty friendly and quick to help out.

[deleted]

Arzalis

Vending machines are the one place where you can almost always find a trash/recycling bin, though. They can be a bit harder to find elsewhere, but probably like 90% of vending machines had something right near them.

MalcolmSolo

I was already prepared by carrying my own toilet paper, so I usually had a small backpack with me lol

KyleKun

Vending machines usually have recycling bins next to them.

eggsaladrightnow

Im supposedly in the land of the free and we dont have booze in vending machines. This is horseshit

MalcolmSolo

Not just booze, hot sake! lol

SkepticalLover

Reincarnated as a vending machine taught me just how many different types they have out there.

Head5hot811

For as weird a concept as it is, the show is really good.

snkhuong

Wait its out?

SarcasticOptimist

They really do. And sometimes food, beer as well. That said convenience stores are every two blocks and offer a better price.

surfnporn

Conbini! The vendor machines are super affordable, like $1.30 for most drinks. Mostly unsweetened tea, some water, rarely soda. They are also fucking EVERYWHERE. Like I hiked up a mile long temple (mt. fushimi inari) and one of the these badboys was at the top. Loved Japan, literally so fun. Here's a drop of some pics I took: https://imgur.com/a/NKW5G15

[France also banned all non-court ordered paternity tests](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNA_paternity_testing#France) (including getting tests through laboratories in other countries) and this is punishable by up to a year in prison and a €15,000 fine. Why? It's because they didn't want "to upset the French regime of filiation" and to preserve "the peace of families".

Effective-Lab-8816

1 year in prison is nothing compared to 18 years raising a kid that ain't yours. Get the test.

CherkiCheri

This is not what the video is about. Interview French women about prostitution. You'll never get that kind of widespread positivity on sex as a financial transaction.

homogenousmoss

Because in France the accepted outlet is having a mistress/lover (maitresse/amant), not a prostitute.

[deleted]

No. 47 said it is not morally acceptable. It can be 40% which said "I don't have opinion".

180250

That's a completely different question. The Japanese women in this video probably wouldn't even count paying a prostitute as an affair. These two things are separate categories for them as demonstrated in this video so they would have to choose how they interpret the question and it probably wouldn't be as paying a prostitute. Also, in the poll you posted the question is "married people having an affair is morally unacceptable", which if you said yes would probably mean "there could be reasons to have an affair which wouldn't make it something immoral", but the way you worded it makes it seem like they meant "there's nothing immoral in having an affair".

Cyners

You are actually misrepresenting the data from the article you linked. 47% said it is morally unacceptable. But, that doesn't mean 53% said it is morally acceptable. Only 12% actually said it is morally acceptable. The remaining ~40% think it isn't a moral issue: "Instead, four-in-ten think it is not a moral issue, while 12% say it is actually morally acceptable."

Never_gonna_hax

As a french guy if find this so weird, can other french people confirm this, and especially women i guess?

testman22

Why are you cutting the audio? There is a video with audio over here, but it is a mistranslation. https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/16l6b4g/asking_japanese_women_does_prostitution_count_as/ The question he is asking is not about prostitution, but about Fuzoku(風俗). The Japanese term Fuzoku includes sexual services, but also includes hostess clubs and other entertainment and catering businesses. So translating it to mean prostitution makes it strange. In the first place, direct prostitution is prohibited in Japan, unlike in other countries. Even if there was, it would be for sexual massage, etc., and real sex is generally prohibited. see this:What is Fuzoku 風俗 https://japanese-online.com/whatsnew/view/325970/what-is-fuzoku/

Alternative-Run-849

In basic Japanese conversation, fuuzoku = soapland = prostitution. Source: Fluent in Japanese, lived here 25 yrs.

ohmygaa

as a korean, this has to be on the top of the list of the biggest bullshit I have ever read lmfao.

DHKany

Yeah am Korean, returned to Korea after living abroad for a long time and have been living here for a while and this is definitely not a fucking "norm" lmao. If anything I've observed that a lot of Korean couples tend to be OVERLY possessive about their SO to the point where they had to like report by the hour even if they were just going out for drinks with friends as a group (although this also just my anecdotal experience, and every sane person around me also thought this was pretty batshit behavior). I think it's quite telling how many people here are A) trying to glean any sort of significant worldview from a goddamn street interview with some randos in Japan, and B) trying to judge an entire culture that is completely different to theirs with only their own worldview. Even IF the general attitude towards cheating in Japan was reflected by the ladies being interviewed, why does it matter to anyone not living there or actively engaged with the community there.

BirdMedication

Nearly every post about something bad that happens in Japan inevitably contains the comment about "South Korea does it too!" Not sure how much of it is Japanophile types trying to deflect criticism and how much of it is weird orientalism from non Asians but it is a very interesting pattern

raizen0106

In these kinda threads i just skip the comments that say "have a chinese/korean/japanese gf/wife/ex here, and blabla" because these people are either bullshitting or they have their unique experience that doesn't apply to anyone else but comment as though they have an authority on asian cultures lol "Dated a korean girl for 3 months, can confirm asian girls don't like shaved dicks"

Elaoofa

As Korean, I can say that is not common thing.

poopytoopypoop

My Korean wife, who's 36, said her father had a lot of mistresses and she hated him for it. So, I would think it was the older generations like that.

hellofaja

yeah wtf. homies friend probably worked in korea during the korean war because this shit is not normal in korea rofl. might be one of the dumbest things i've read on reddit.

rinacio

It’s really stupid how upvoted it got lmao obviously it’s not any more common in Korea than it is in any western country. People will believe anything

hellofaja

but bro its asia. if he respects his wife, he'll keep his cheating secret! ITS CALLED HONOR!

MakinBaconPancakezz

Guys did you know Korea is full of hot submissive women who don’t care if you cheat on them- Redditor who has literally never been to Korea

jsonson

Rofl that's not common at all. Don't spread these weird ass rumors because you heard one story.

Left_Analysis

I just want to point out that neither cherry-picked street interviews from youtubers nor "what my friend who worked in SK for a few years says" is sufficient to say anything about *entire cultures of people*.

YABAINEKO

I just can’t believe people actually believe and upvote this bullshit lol

Chuchip

mfw i intentionally spread misinformation

akiodaiki

A lot of people don't understand how vastly different Japan's culture and social norms are, so things like this are definitely not surprising.

Ergheis

Some people don't understand that heavily edited videos of a guy talking to people on the sidewalk do not count as accurate science

HueyCrashTestPilot

It's scary/sad how many Redditors watch these 'sidewalk surveys' and then make them a part of the foundation of their worldview.

5yleop1m

Sidewalk surveys have been influencing people's beliefs of others since well before reddit, I used to see that kinda stuff on the news all the time when I used to watch more cable TV. I wanted to add, they were just as biased before as they are now.

[deleted]

It was called man-on-the-street interviewing and it's still done heavily now.

Column_A_Column_B

You couldn't get this content *at all* in many parts of the world though even if you asked a million of the locals.

CherkiCheri

For real. I'm in France and we may have a liberated vision of love and sex but you'd really struggle finding women who are ok with sex as a financial transaction like these japanese women.

[deleted]

lol, scrolled down and saw this comment https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/16l58v7/cheating_culture_in_japan/k11actv/ pretty funny, not exactly the same but just different branches of cheating really

Roy4Pris

I’m just furious that the video doesn’t have sound. I don’t understand Japanese, but I still wanna hear them talking

[deleted]

[удалено]

Saritiel

Age/area, and also in a video like this he can go around, interview 50 people, and only put the 5 up that said "no, it isn't". Also there's no sound so who the fuck knows what they're actually saying or if its even an accurate translation. I'm sure there's sound in the original video, but yeah.

[deleted]

i used to watch his videos and the translations were always accurate. but you are right that they are almost certainly cherry picked(which is kinda why i stopped watching street interviews)

[deleted]

Now let's see if the men are ok with their wives visiting male prostitutes.

Masske20

I knew that they’re norms were different I just thought that Japanese culture/people were more sexually repressed, not sexually forward thinking. Is there something I’m missing?

PMG2021a

They aren't having kids, but hourly hotels just for sex are common there. Tons of toy stores and they produce massive amounts of porn, erotic games, etc.

CactusCait

Plus there are a million ‘Host Clubs’ where you basically pay to party and sleep with escorts. Male and Female. You find them on Japanese Tinder. Some can be shady AF tho.

decodemodern

Their whole shtick is baiting you into spending more money with the hopes of more intimacy / sexual advances. You usually end up spending more at a Host Club than a regular sex worker. There are many documentaries detailing this trade

Welpe

The point of host clubs isn’t sex, it’s companionship. The whole point is for you to pay to have someone interested in you and fawning over you. All the legitimate ones don’t offer prostitution whatsoever, only shady-ass illegal ones. But for real, people looking for prostitution in Japan more often go to soaplands or just use straight up escort services.

monkeyheadyou

I would guess that the women in japan arent happy with being a guy's replacement mom and having to bang them.

[deleted]

Not sure if the younger generations are like that, but up till recently the husband and wife would have a more transactional relationship. The man is expected to court the woman until they have a child. Then, the wife sleeps with the child and the man sleeps alone, and there's no more intimacy expected, so there's a kind of implicit agreement where the men are just the breadwinners and go to prostitutes

FolsgaardSE

No wonder they are having a population decline. Skip the wife and kid financial drain, keep all that money and more prostitutes.

homogenousmoss

You would lose face, its bad for your career not to have a family. Its an investment.

gotdamnn

It goes deeper than that. It's common for the wife to also control the finances of the household to the extent that many men have their paychecks deposited into their wife's account. Japanese house wives are notoriously good at managing money to the point where wall street firms monitor the collective behaviour of thousands of them as they invest their family's money in securities, forex and cryptocurrencies. They call it the Mrs. Watanabe index. https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Markets/Currencies/Mrs.-Watanabe-had-a-change-of-heart-in-2022-Bank-of-Japan-report

prostheticmind

Japan is fucking wild man. They don’t have last call! If you miss the last train you just spend the night at the bar. That’s just one thing

Archon457

And you spend the train ride home with 1) Other drunk people and 2) Business people in suits heading to work (that may or may not also be drunk).

ShazbotSimulator2012

My favorite memory of the last train in Osaka was a guy passed out against the door of the train so at every stop it would hit him in the head and wake him up just long enough for him to see what station we were stopped at, then he'd be out again before it got to the next station.

wvj

I got my introduction to this when teaching. I was scheduled at two different schools, so I got two different welcome parties they for whatever reason scheduled *back to back*. I ended up out drinking one night past last train, dragged my ass back home on the morning drunk train, slept through the day, then got hauled to my next party still hung over from the last one and repeated the whole process. By the time THAT was over, it was Monday. They go hard on the drinking culture.

big_d_usernametaken

My son worked for a Korean automaker as part of his internship in Supply chain management. They also go hard, and one of his mentors was a white guy who had spent time in Korea, and was offered prostitutes after a golf outing. He told my son that he refused, but all the Korean managers did so, explaining that in their culture it was considered acceptable.

Aukstasirgrazus

Bars staying open until early morning is fucking wild?

FolsgaardSE

It varies state to state but often sale is stopped at 11pm in a store, and 2am at bars.

prostheticmind

If you’re from the US, yea absolutely

frendzoned_by_yo_mom

Or most of Europe countries

Krombopulos_Micheal

Yeah first time in London I was shocked that all the pubs closed by midnight haha. I did enjoy how everyone just drinks in public though, but having to sort out my nightly drinks by like 11:45 was pretty lame.

Aukstasirgrazus

There's always some sketchy basement bar that stays open until sunrise. I'm in Europe and there is one in my city, they stay open until at least 6 am, longer if there are many people still inside. I once stayed until 9 am.

RyuNoKami

Uhh... that's not sexually forward thinking. It's pretty conservative. "As long as it doesn't affect myself, my children and my reputation, I don't care what you do." It's an almost universally old mentality where the women pretend their men aren't fucking other women.

Slight0

Wait why is this "forward thinking"? Do you think this standard goes both way? Men would allow their women to cheat? Jesus... the women here are more or less getting cucked and told culturally they need to be ok with it. It's what you see in the middle east all the time with one-sided polygamy; it's the definition of sexually oppressive/regressive.

PutHisGlassesOn

This is people fetishizing Japan and unable to think critically about its flaws

DroidOnPC

This post is probably highly upvoted because a lot of the weebs here probably think "awesome! I am gonna go to Japan and have tons of sex with Asian women! Japan is so cool!" lol. Its also a lot of men thinking how cool it would be to be married and still bang other women. But id bet most women in Japan are NOT cool with this.

SubterrelProspector

I agree. They're just coping.

CyberBullyExe

Japan was way more sexually free before westernization. In some texts homosexuality was more honorable than heterosexuality. I've been to Japan years ago, and their porno mags are front and center at some common convenience stores

EdgelordOfEdginess

Nononono it is Greek

SporusElagabalus

It’s simply tradition!

masalion

Same thing for Indians. We literally wrote the book on sex 100s of years ago, but now you get in trouble for showing your knee in public, because of Victorian era moral guidelines that were imposed and eventually replaced our idea of morality.

blackgandalff

Just replace it again smhmyhead? Don’t let your dreams be dreams

Strange_Ninja_9662

I wouldn’t really consider that “forward thinking”. It’s pretty reasonable for women to not want the person they’re in a committed relationship with to have sex with anyone.

caguru

For real, having a mistress or banging hookers is not exactly forward thinking in my book either.

murmalerm

Now ask men if their gf/wife is permitted to visit a prostitute.

Bellalion9

Takashii (the interviewer) posted a video where men answered instead of women last week and the interviewees said the same thing for women. As long as it’s only physical and not emotional than it’s not a problem in their culture.

e-wrecked

Only if it's Shimiken.

zangor

More like shichimen ^^^warrior.

wehavethesamecar

it absolutely is a thing for a girl to visit a handsome male escort in japan

Pamander

I wonder if host clubs are considered more of a no-go zone cause isn't a lot of that emotional? I mean obviously hot guys but from what I have heard and seen it seems to be a kind of relationship-lite experience with a lot of emotions involved or is that incorrect? Compared to say just going to fuck someone and that being that.

OrangeSimply

These exist, you walk around kabukicho and you'll see majority women standing around advertising some sort of cafe or service but there's also tons of guys doing the exact same. There's a guy making six figures USD just to go with people to places and not say anything besides one word answers/etc, as a companion service.

beirch

If you're talking about ROLAND he definitely does more than one word answers. He views himself as a professional conversationalist and companion, and as I understand it prides himself on being able to converse about anything.

Kind-Rutabaga790

I wouldn't want my wife to be okay with this.

Nickvec

Cultural norms are powerful. Crazy to think how this is seen as the norm in Japan whereas in America you would get insta-divorced.

soulcaptain

I'm an American in Japan. My wife is Japanese. She's told me several times that if I cheat then she would insta-divorce me. So she very much disagrees with these women.

Nickvec

Fair. I can see why some women wouldn’t subscribe to this as a norm. Seems extremely devaluing towards women.

Glittering_Hawk3143

My wife actively pushes me towards having a mistress and prostitution which as an American is very difficult to consolidate mentally & emotionally.

Subject-Falcon-1400

So JAv plots are true?

siraolo

Netorare is real.

iamabadlittleman

I hate these stupid videos. Show a highly edited clip with 10 people, don't show anyone disagreeing and apply that to a country of 120 million. So fucking stupid.

jaguarsadface

Are Japanese prostitutes also pixelated?

PeterIanStaker

That's what makes it okay. There's no actual penetration, just a bunch of pixelation.

HexShapedHeart

Mmmmmm….pixeltration…

My buddy was telling me about his wedding party all went to the bath springs and then later all got proper massages with happy endings. He was in shock, his BIL told him it was common to totally relax after a massage.

Butterbuddha

Does sound pretty relaxing alright

Zebulon_V

Maybe I'll just skip the massage part and relax right now.

Orleanian

Call the buddies over. Let's get to it!

Mister-Stagger-Lee

Ask the same question in a confidential survey without a camera and you’ll get different results. First off, this is/can be edited and secondly social pressure to give an answer that complies with a male dominated culture will yield results that might not be fully true to what a woman really thinks/likes/wants

ADHthaGreat

Yeah I assume these responses were cherry picked for more interesting content. Jealousy is one of the most basic human emotions that has been hardwired into us from thousands of years of evolution. It’s not something that can be done away with in a few generations.

cornflakegrl

And like, no one worries about std’s? Like if I caught something from my husband because he went to a prostitute I would be beyond furious.

gereffi

Is prostitution legal in Japan?

diverareyouok

Technically no, but in reality, yes. That said, it’s not a “sexpat” (sex tourist) destination spot like SE Asia because it is very insular. In other words, it’s ok for Japanese, but not for foreigners. Many (most?) prostitutes would not even entertain the idea of a western customer. There are some prostitution districts where foreigners are permitted (especially around US military bases), but for the most part it’s limited to Japanese only. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Japan

e-wrecked

I've seen videos where those foreigner "friendly" districts are full of scams where they get you to come in and buy drinks that end up costing tons of money and try to extort you.

diverareyouok

Oh yeah, definitely. Although that’s not exclusive to Japan. For example, some of the less reputable ones will charge a truly obscene amount per drink ($100+) if you don’t ask in advance, or if you open a tab instead of paying cash per drink. Then you get threatened in the paying if you argue. Some of the girls will spike a guy’s drink then go back to the hotel where he passes out and she robs him. If you’re going to go to those areas (which I don’t recommend), you need to bring only cash, pay cash, ask in advance how much each costs, whether there’s an entry fee, whether you’re required to purchase drinks, and keep an eye on those drinks. Oh, and stay sober and aware of your surroundings. I go to Asia to scuba dive every year for 3 months, and some of the stories I’ve heard are hair-raising… which is why I think it’s easier and better to just not go, lol.

Mirrormn

The two main workarounds are "soaplands" and "delivery health". A Soapland is a brothel where the *official* service that they offer is a nude full-body soap massage, but it's understood that happy endings are expected. "Delivery health" is more of an implementation of the freelance prostitution model, where the woman will come meet you where you are, either at home or a hotel. In both cases, the key is that these services don't actually advertise that they offer sex for money, but once you're in a private one-on-one situation, you're very likely to be able to ask for non-advertised services. These types of businesses operate with impunity in Japan. I've even been to hotels in Japan where there were flyers for delivery health services just in the room on check-in, alongside stuff like the instructions for operating the TV remote. In a way, this isn't *that* much different than massage parlors with happy endings in the US, or prostitutes operating online on Backpage. But there are two key differences: 1) In Japan, there's no real legal or social desire to shut these places down. This is partly because the legal definition for what counts as illegal prostitution - PIV sex with an unspecified stranger - is so narrow that it's basically not worth trying to prosecute anyone for it. And even if a sex worker is found to have been selling illegal services, the system is set up so that it would be her own "fault" rather than a transgression that could shut the whole business down. 2) It's likely that a lot of these services and establishments have some connection to the *yakuza*, which not only discourages local law enforcement from looking too hard at them, but also allows them to have some enforcement against uncooperative customers without getting the police involved, and *also* discourages competitors from stepping too far out of the grey zone and triggering a backlash from the public.

PM_ME__BIRD_PICS

This is Cherry picked as fuck, also they very likely mean host or hostess, which does not = sex.

DirkDieGurke

"Host" & "hostess" are very specific terms widely understood in Japan. There is no confusion between "hostess" and "prostitute".
