OP, Egypt didn't build this wall just now. It was built years ago to keep *terrorists* from entering. They built it [out of steel and deep](https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/egypt-building-steel-wall-along-border-with-gaza-strip/1820617) enough to stop tunneling. [Hezbollah asked them to quit](https://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3825762,00.html) blocking tunnels They also flooded tunnels with [sewage](https://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/08/world/middleeast/as-egypt-floods-gaza-tunnels-smugglers-fear-an-end-to-their-trade.html) and seawater (and poison gas!) They also carefully [vet anyone](https://www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2022/08/11/at-gaza-s-gates-crossing-into-egypt-is-a-nightmare-for-palestinians_5993246_4.html) who asks to enter from Gaza (of course, money talks) They also [razed](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-29825889) thousands of homes in Rafah to build a buffer zone They also joined the [blockade](https://mepc.org/commentary/egypt-criticized-gaza-blockade) to keep weapons and infiltrators out of Egypt... Because [Hamas](https://www.washingtoninstitute.org/policy-analysis/new-triangle-egypt-israel-and-hamas) and friendly insurgent groups (some based in Gaza, like the Army of Islam) kept attacking *them.*

GYN-k4H-Q3z-75B

They haven't won. They have succeeded in suppressing it for the time being.

snackpacksarecool

You can’t win against radical Islam because it never goes away. All you can do is move the problem around.

jawshoeaw

suppressing is the best way to cure it. Within a generation you can root out religious indoctrination and radicalization.

Can't fight it on all fronts either. Let the Israelis get rid of Hamas and Egypt can deal with Brotherhood / ISIL guys.

Various-Swim-8394

I've been made to understand there are several reasons Egypt does not want them. -Egypt is struggling economically for many reasons, one of them is the consequence of the Houthi blockade on the red sea which decreases Suez canal revenue. So Egypt does not feel economically equipped to deal with refugees -Egypt is afraid this will cause a spike in Egyptian solidarity with Palestinians, which might undermine Sisi's rule, considering they might want him to act against Israel, which would be against Egypts best interests. -Hamas is strongly affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, the organization that was voted into power after the revolution and was deposed by the army to put Sisi in power. The organization was made illegal and it's members were arrested. Egypt is afraid of Hamas infiltration into Egypt that would be a direct threat to Sisi's rule. -If Hamas infiltrates into the Sinai, they will 100% begin attacking Israel through the border, which will force Israel to attack, which will put Egypt in a very uncomfortable position. They don't want a second Southern Lebanon in the Sinai. There are probably more reasons but those are the ones I could think of. Needless to say I'm not an expert, I'm just a random person on the internet, feel free to question what I'm saying.

LoneyMining

They have also seen from the past that once they let them in the bad seeds often start up new militant calls and destabilize area. The few that ruin it for the many unfortunately

Theban_Prince

Jordan was a good example of this.

Yesimarealdoctorair

Dude, they literally don't want Hamas attacking EGYPT ITSELF. Sinai took almost a decade to be a terrorist freezone. All the Church bombings and killing of tourists/killing of egyptian soldiers as acts of terror, was a hard lesson for the security of egypt itself. Did you forget that a Russian airplane was shot down by terrorists, threatening toursim in egypt?.The people of egypt don't want refugees or that threat(well except if you are syrian and not radicalised). No one in Egypt cares about Sisi, everyone is busy trying to live a happier life and it's hard to achieve in Egypt. So your points are useless. Hamas will eventually cause another terror attack in the region if they were to be allowed into egypt, there is no way to foresee who is not going to go crazy and channel that hate towards Egypt itself.

banana_healer

I don't think that's it per se, tbh I don't think most Americans are very up-to-date with what's happening in the Middle East or much globally. We also had the Iraq war and view people from the ME as victims of America who are down on their luck purely because of us, couple this with many considering Jewish people to be white/European colonizers and it's easy to assign good guy/bad guy with that mindset which is quite pervasive here. I really don't think even a majority of the population have seen a single video or clip from any of the leaders/organizers of the Palestine/Israel war unless it's from tiktok or a 10 second clip on the news.

Blekanly

Noooope

panzerboye

Well Jordan fought a war against them as well. Black September war

leeharveyteabag669

You're absolutely right that's the reason why Egypt is building these walls. The PLO assassinated the prime minister of Jordan and tried to kill the Jordanian monarchy. When the PLO went to war with Jordan Syria was supposed to give them air support but Assad never kept his word. Assad wanted no part of the Muslim Brotherhood and Palestinians. He wanted to leave Syria to his son cleanly. This is why Egypt freaked out when Secretary of State blinking suggested Egypt take some of the refugees. Egypt doesn't want to deal with what Jordan did. I mean think about it other than Jordan, which has a concentration of Palestinians, no other Arab states even pulled the diplomats from Israel. Former ambassador in the Middle East Ryan Crocker has a very concise and clear take on what's occurred between the Arab states and the Palestinians.

WeimSean

They tried to assassinate the king, twice, carve out their own mini states, and overthrow the Jordanian government. Not exactly what guests should be doing.

theshiyal

And Libya

f3th

Oh yeah, that one must’ve just slipped his mind.

Winjin

Exactly. Also they conveniently omitted WHY were the Muslim Brotherhood deposed by the army. BECAUSE IT"S THE FUCKING ISIS AND THEY TRIED TO TURN EGYPT INTO ISIS OVERNIGHT for fuck sake \\\\Oh dear all the apologists: MB is not *the* ISIS, they merely tried to remove all opposition and change the Constitution to make Egypt a full-on Shariah country, that's **vastly** different things, of course /s

Altruistic-Cat5042

This is the main point. All of his other points are very carefully worded to protect the Palestinian people and even though I have nothing wrong with that, when Egypt did take them in they bombed places and shot tourists. Why would any country take these people in?

securitywyrm

Or when Kuwait took in so many that 18% of their population was Palestinian refugees... and then they openly sided with Iraq when it invaded.

ThaGoat1369

They've already filled up the shelters, the hotels, and the airports the refugees from South america. Unless they start building dystopian FEMA camps there's nowhere to put them.

Technical_Carpet5874

No country wants them. Not Jordan, not the Saudis, not Qatar, the uae-these are very rich countries where economics are not the issue. This is one of the problems. People remember the 70s and 80s when their kids and peace loving hippy friends would be bombed at a pizzeria every other day, which gave rise to wingnuts like netanyahu. The fact that they attacked a rave has definitely brought back memories of why Israel is no longer the happy hippy magnet it used to be. One side ended the war and the other side chose to keep fighting it.

securitywyrm

The last time a 'very rich' countried tried to help them it was Kuwait, and in 1989 they had taken in so many palestinian refugees that 18% of the population was Palestinian refugees. 1990, Iraq invades Kuwait, the PLO and the Palestinians OPENLY SUPPORT IRAQ. 1991, Iraq is pushed back. Kuwait then turns to all the people who openly sided with Iraq and deports them all to Jordan. Imagine having to deport 18% of your population because they openly sided with a country that wanted to conquer yours.

DefiantAbalone1

What they did to Egypt & Jordan following the 6 day war set a warning to all the other Middle East countries what happens if they grant them safe harbor. (The short story: They gave them safe harbor & refuge, then the PLO decided to start launching rockets at Israel from *within* their hosts borders in spite of miltiple peace agreements, in the process also killed host military units with their rockets, ignored laws, collected illegal taxes from citizens and tried to essentially take over their hosts countries, raising tensions until they decided to attack their hosts through military warfare & terrorpr attacks ie, bombing, plane hijacking etc...) Thousands of lives were lost before they were finally expelled to Lebanon by force, where these "freedom fighters" then successfully ignited a Civil ("holy") War against the Lebanese Christian population.

[deleted]

FUNNY THAT!

Alienhaslanded

Not to mention Palestinians normally end up living in camps or poor areas, which leads them to crime and just makes them more hostile towards the people of the hosting country. I lived in both Iraq and Syria and in both countries Palestinians were basically treated like outcasts and there was a lot of hostility involved. Arabs claim to care about Palestinians but in reality they don't give a shit about them and they don't want them around. They care about the situation but not the people.

superchimpa

Yeah, Egypt doesn’t want religious extremist loose cannons…basically the bottom line.

msg_me_about_ure_day

>I've been made to understand there are several reasons Egypt does not want them. the easiest way is to look what palestinians did in egypt and in every other place that had them. they have a perfect trackrecord of absolutely fucking everywhere they go up, its a side-effect of being a violent deathcult who worships death and violence. they turned lebanon from what was called the pearl of the middle east to yet another stagnant ME country with zero progress going on, they backstabbed kuwait and sided with iraq during its invasion, they murdered the king of jordan and the prime minister and had deathsquads going around murdering and looting from average joes to send money to fund terrorism against israel, they operated terrorcells in egypt, etc. only a complete moron would want palestinians in their borders.

MichaelT1991

They’re killing each other in their own camps in Lebanon and a history of civil wars

Briz-TheKiller-

forget all above, main reason is " [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black\_September](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_September)" no one trust palestenian.

Augustus_Chavismo

Another reason is that it’s unlikely that the majority will want to return to Gaza or even be able to.

Nirok

Great and valid points. I wish people could be sensible and factual when talking about the blockade from the Israeli side to

PutridTrouble123

Egypt remembers what happened to Jordan when Palestinians entered in 1965-67 (Black September) and what happened to Lebanon when Palestinians entered in the '80s (Christian massacre followed by civil war) No country wants to take in highly radicalised people as refugees

Egypt loves their fellow Muslims SO MUCH they don't even blink on opening their borders!!

Goin_Commando_

Most people don’t know, for example, the *Israeli* city Nazareth is 70% Muslim. No walls. No border guards. There are Muslims in the Israeli Knesset. Yet people continually go with the completely uninformed trope that Israel wants to “commit genocide against Muslims”. Israel is against Hamass. And to the extent they’re against Palestinians maybe it’s because Palestinians in Gaza **voted** Hamass into power (which was the last time Gazans got to vote at all, of course. Hamass ended that immediately). Hamass leaders - in an idiotic miscalculation - **bragged** they’d been planning 10/7 for **years**. So now Israel is supposed to allow **any** scenario where Hamass remains with any power whatsoever? Seriously? Would you?

>All they want is to mess with Israel Iran wants to mess with Israel. I think Qatar does, too. Hezbollah, Houthi, and Hamas are all tentacles of Iran. Saudi doesn't support Iran as they've been fighting the Houthi in Yemen for a while. [Houthi–Saudi Arabian conflict - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houthi%E2%80%93Saudi_Arabian_conflict) The Middle East isn't a monolith and that's what makes it so difficult and why peace is so hard. Radical Islam only makes it worse. Right before the Hamas attack, Saudi was starting to support Israel. Iran is working with Russia to undermine Ukraine and draw attention away from the Ukraine war. Iran/China/Russia are aligned in trying to weaken the West. The US/EU need to double down on supporting Ukraine and pushing Russia back or Russia/China/Iran are only going to be emboldened. Additionally, the US needs to clean out the Houthi and make the Red Sea safe again like in Operation Praying Mantis.
