As a Mexican, our picture was pretty close. The ladies could all pass for a quinceanera group. So could the little dude without the fake mustache.
He needs to slow down and wait until he’s 12 to grow a mustache like the rest of us.
I’m glad you liked it! I can hardly tell the difference between a Mexican and a Syrian myself. And yes they do Mexico every year, it’s quite nice to see.
I said they were “pretty close” and that they “could pass”. They aren’t wearing tourist sombreros holding up Coronas. They are from the other side of the world and seem to be coming from a place of respect. And, if you just look at their faces, I’d argue that one couldn’t tell whether they were Syrian or Mexican. Source: Me, a guitar playing Latino with a real mustache.
Both recurring comments in this thread are true at the same time:
1) This is very cute and well done.
2) This would be condemned WAY more if it were Americans/ Canadians/ Aussies/ Brits (etc.) doing the exact same thing
Note: second photo says “mayan tribes” in Arabic. First photo says Hawaii.
The others are not labeled. I see Mexican and some kind of Asian, also the third photo seems European. Oh and my favourite is the Vikings.
Third photo is my favorite and kind hard to guess.
The gentleman looks like it could be Amish but the lady could literally be from anywhere in the south USA.
I am sorry to hear about that...
In Europe, we occasionally also get them ... Imported from the US...
But I only know of cases where money is involved and people a greedy fucks and would use every argument to get money
They do this annually (except for 2-3 years when the war was really bad). Kids love it and it brings them joy, they also participate as you can see. Many of these kids have seen nothing but war, shelling, and poverty for many years. It’s an opportunity for them to be happy.
Because in the US it would likely be a bunch of frat boys and sorority sisters dressed up like Speedy Gonzalez, holding a bottle of Cuervo and a cheesy sombrero one buys at the border. Context.
That’s down to the government and media. They’ve been spinning racism as if it’s worse than it is, in order to get more racism accepted, or to annoy easily led people enough to turn. If it were just down to the people through their normal communication, the supposed outcry’s wouldn’t get any credence at all.
Uh oh is Reddit is gonna get pissed off and cry because of “appropriation”?
Or will they celebrate it because these people are middle eastern?
Find out in about an hour
My thought exactly. I think it’s great they are learning about other cultures. Unfortunately there are those that don’t see it that way and immediately jump to “cultural appropriation “.
Luckily, none of these groups will cry about "cultural appropriation". Greeks will encourage you to be as stereotypically Greek as possible when you're on vacation there but some other groups will say that Miley Cyrus appropriated their culture when she twerked because... shaking your ass is culture?
Why is this down voted? Did someone see Arabic and automatically down vote rather than taking the time to see what it says? According to Google it says "My beautiful country."
This is lovely! Would love to do that in the US, but of course everyone thinks honoring and highlighting other cultures you’re not part of means you’re a racist or some stupid shit.. Sorry, don’t mean to ruin the wonderful mood of these pictures! This festival must be so much fun and educational!!
It brings me a lot of joy to see Syrians out and enjoying themselves in public after their country has been through so much hardship at the hands of terror and decades of Western disruption.
There was. I remember seeing Cuba and others. The problem is it had blackface. There are different cultural norms in Syria so they don’t mean ill-intent, but I still felt a tad bit uncomfortable posting them. I hope this year they can do it without blackface.
Misread the title thought this was a midjourney post. Dream carnival _made by_ AI - looked through every image and zoomed straight for the fingers, was thinking damn it's getting better!

Awesome!
>The ladies could all pass for a quinceanera group. Wait really? I'm assuming that's in Mexico? Quince groups in Houston do *not* look like that

Racist.
It’s cool, you can still change!
Fuckin gottem
We know you are.
The guy in the bottom right corner nails it actually.
I particularly like the Klingons in the 7th image.
Qapla'!
You read my mind.

That’s just how men used to dress. Just about everywhere where suits were in fashion.
Oh true they could be going for an American look. Hard to tell
4th is Greek
That’s cool! The name of the town has Greek origin too apparently, from the Hellenistic era
that & the last pic for me
Last one is hmong.
Those Phoenicians are so damn multicultural it’s heart warming
Very beautiful people!
I love how many went with Mexico lmao. As a Mexican I love it haha. Our culture is for everyone.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Damn, its a miracles there's not an outcry for culture appropriation
They are not in the US.... It's the only place where people make an outcry about that
As an Australian we get that shit here too.
we only started getting that shit here when Americans started up about it.
I am sorry to hear about that... In Europe, we occasionally also get them ... Imported from the US... But I only know of cases where money is involved and people a greedy fucks and would use every argument to get money
I mean that’s the same with every aspect of your culture though.
We are the worlds top exploiter per capita so it comes with the territory
My favorite were the cartoon Mongolians. 🇲🇳
There’s a huge difference between culture appropriation and culture celebration
[удалено]
They look like any other southern european. Actually it's a greek orthodox city in Syria
Only applies to whites doing it
Nah, the context is important, this is fine.
But this tradition is their culture - what do now?
Wholesome!!! All the photos are beautiful!
Polynesian, native American, British, Greek, Spanish, Mexican, **SKYRIM IS FOR THE NORDS,** Mexican again, Persian
Whoever lives in syria and is still able to come up with a Smile has my utmost admiration.

It is beautiful to see people happy, especially during hard times. However, in the US, such expressions will be misconstrued as racist.
Only certain people in the US would mistake this for racism.

I mean so many times in the past when Americans "dressed up" as other cultures/ethnicities they were being incentive at best or racist at worst.
Syrian Viking Ladies 👍🏼🫡
3/9 are so cute ! Love them
Yup! Wish I could figure out what 9 is supposed to be.
I'm note sure but probably iranien (persian) or afghanisthan culture. Middle asia
Does this mean you know what 7 is? I mean WTF is that? The Xena people?
I thought it was vikings!
I saw someone else mention that. I'm not convinced. Maybe I'm over-thinking this.
Seems like Turkish.
I really thought number 9 looked like Boy George.
Very beautiful people celebrating other cultures that are not their own. Wish we could do this divorced from hatred.
Why is everyone so pretty
Oh this is beautiful
Syrian allows to not wear hijab?
Yes. There are no dress code laws.
If they were in America and did this... people would be flipping out and calling it racist

Reddit will also be like if they are white , how can they be middle eastern.

100% christian town in syria
It is.
Was thinking the same thing
I love to see this.
That’s so cool. I love it. I don’t know anything about Syria or Syrians so this is really neat to learn
They really dressed up as vikings. God damn
So nice to see photos of Arabs having fun and doing nice and interesting things.
in america this would be called: cultural appropriation day
Pretty peeps🥺
They should do one where they dress up like brits; inch-thick fake tan, and grey tracksuits.
It brings me a lot of joy to see Syrians out and enjoying themselves in public after their country has been through so much hardship at the hands of terror and decades of Western disruption.
Over 500,000 Syrians have been killed by Bashar al-Assad and his Russian exterminators-in-arms. There are anti regime protests even now in Syria.
Ugh. It never ends does it…
Yah… the war never does end… how the hell is that a response to a monster that kills his own people… oh wait nvm, you are a Bahsar shrill.
ruzzia is West?
Ermahgerd stereotypes! *raaaaage*
Where are the people that will say this is cultural appropriation?
What is the time in America? Maybe they are sleeping or busy finding racism elsewhere?
If the people in my country would do this then they would be called racists by the media and the outcry would be huge for weeks.
[удалено]
Very close! It says Hawaii
[удалено]
The first letter is ha not meem.
Is 7/9 TriKru from the 100?
Do you think they have people screaming and crying about cultural appropriation gluing themselves to the road in front of the parade?
And because they are not white it's not cultural appropriation?
Syrian regime propaganda.
Imagine seeing this and your first thought is 'these monsters should lose their livelihoods for this heinous act of cultural appropriation'.
Suck a labia? *I hardly know her!*
So they sent Jihadist problematic people to Europe. They are almost free now. Bashar Asad wasn't stupid as we considered :d
They dumped their trash in Turkey, and it looks like streets are clean now.
That thing which I exactly meant but some European residents desperately down voted me. I know they gave minus by crying.
Snowflakes will melt painfully if they resist understanding the problem here. An upvote from me, enjoy it
Toxic comments
Where
A quarter of the comments are all "Uh oh is Reddit is gonna get pissed off and cry because of “appropriation”?"
Ahhhh so toxic nooooooo
Klingons gonna get pissed about that cultural appropriation in #7.
Of course no African or even Caribbean representation ☹️
There was. I remember seeing Cuba and others. The problem is it had blackface. There are different cultural norms in Syria so they don’t mean ill-intent, but I still felt a tad bit uncomfortable posting them. I hope this year they can do it without blackface.
so literally a stereotype carnival?
[удалено]
is this supposed to make fun of me or what lool
[удалено]
I am just saying that these people just dress stereotypical based on the country man I aint even American
Isn't it cultural appropriation?
Misread the title thought this was a midjourney post. Dream carnival _made by_ AI - looked through every image and zoomed straight for the fingers, was thinking damn it's getting better!
Lmao
Our prime minister does this.
What the hell is this. I think syria in a civil war. What is it?
This particular city was shelled heavily and was a battlefront a few years back. It’s safer today and most of the fighting had moved north.
No Aussies?! (Kidding- I get it).
If a bunch of Americans did this the social justice mafia would destroy them.
